Little cutie Corbin, who's now a Carpool star, kicks off today's episode, which is packed with the segments you know and love. “Big brain” is today's millennial word of the day, as in, Tik Tok is small brain, and IG is big brain. 90's throwbacks from the driveway diaries include bubbles you could eat and silk accessory scarves that are coming back hot. Kelly also clears up all the confusion surrounding the two-ingredient pumpkin muffin recipe. The great eight of children's cereal — Kelly and Lizz's favorite nightcap — is here. Cocoa Puffs, Cocoa Pebbles, Fruit Loops, Lucky Charms, Cookie Crisp, Reese's Puffs, Captain Crunch, and Trix are going head to head. Cereal connoisseur and Stumpe sibling Craig joins the gals for a tiebreaker. Kelly raves about her favorite Edmunds.com tools that make car shopping so easy — a hat tip to the fantastic sponsor of today's industry news. Kelly's favorite tools are the comparison tool for a side-by-side comparison of four vehicles, the price checker tool for comparing car prices in your area, and the appraisal tool that shows you what your car is worth in minutes. The Acura ZDX collab with General motors is giving precision EV essence, and Mercedes is expanding its crossover lineup with the ugliest car Kelly's ever seen in her life, the EQE. Industry news also brings a report of the Rivian R1T recall repair process that affected 12,000 vehicles. How long did the inspection and repair take? Listen in to find out. In this episode we interview Mohammed Iqbal, Founder & CEO of SweatWorks. SweatWorks' mission is ‘to make health and fitness more accessible to more people.' They've consulted with companies such as: Schwinn, Nike, Beachbody, Strava, SoulCycle, Garmin, & Bose, to name a few. WE DISCUSS: The story of Mohammed’s journey from the Middle East to America, and from being out of shape to living his healthiest life possible, is compelling. Here are just a few of the key points we discuss … How did Mohammed transform his childhood experiences into SweatWorks, a company with a vision of ‘wellness for all'?Why do some of the biggest brand names in the wellness industry need the help of agencies like SweatWorks? How do you collect data from your customers, and then contextualize it?Which popular wellness metrics does Mohammed not love? Which ones does he think are more important? How is ‘machine learning' changing our understanding of what it means to be healthy?Over the last few years, what have we learned about working out from home?Where does Mohammed see the intersection of wellness & fitness going over the next 10 years? … and much more. Here's one great quote from this episode: “I made the connection between what I eat, and what it served to me … and that was an epiphany.” – Mohammed Iqbal You're going to want to share this episode with a friend when you're done listening. We promise. FULL SHOW NOTES, LINKS, QUOTES, & CREDITS: 2:00: In this conversation, Mohamed talks about his fascinating health journey: as a young child in the Middle East, he grew up walking everywhere, eating food with his hands, and living a life where he didn't have to think about wellness … … until he moved to America, where Cinabons, Cocoa Pebbles, Ben & Jerry's, Coca-Cola, and too much of everything became the norm. However, he's quick to point out that “The country (America) affords you opportunity and access. It's up to you what you do with it. You could live the healthiest life in the world here.” 4:00 Mohammed talks candidly about his experience as ‘the fat kid', running the mile in the slowest time out of 600 kids in the President's Challenge at school: “This doesn't feel right. I wanted to be able to do things. I decided to commit. I'm going to be different. I picked up a book called Optimum Sports Nutrition, and really took that to heart.” (by Dr. Michael Colgan) “I made the connection between what I eat, and what it served to me … and that was an epiphany.” “I joined the track club, and, long story short, by senior year, I ran the mile in 4:32, which was the fastest time in the school.” “The gap between me as a freshman and me as a senior was knowledge, and it was access to knowledge.” You can hear the origins of SweatWorks rising in his story. 7:00 How did Mohammed start to manifest his experience into purposeful action with SweatWorks? “I really believed in this idea of bringing in data to help engagement in fitness. In 2012 I started SweatWorks as a digital agency that was purely focused on fitness, and I committed to using data and research to drive decisions that we make. Our vision is wellness for all. Really, what we are about is working with either startup or established brands to help them recruit customers that we know they can relate to, and then keep them there by showing them change, helping them with their journey, and really being engaged with the whole process of living a wellness based life.”

Skip Bowersox on Nehemiah 8. Here is what Skip said before Sunday, "Church on the Rockers, When I think about my own funeral, I imagine it would go something like this: I'd like to be cremated and have my ashes kept in one of my five-gallon buckets. As attendees walk through the door, everyone gets a Bowersox Tile t-shirt. My wife has already told me that she will likely not attend. I believe this is because she will be too overcome with grief, though I suspect the real reason is this will be her first opportunity to clear the kitchen counter of all my paperwork and whatnot. After the service, we'll all meet at the homestead where Alan and Linda will provide burgers, and Pam and Dwayne will provide Cocoa Pebbles. We'll gather around the campfire as Robert Tonner leads us in a sing-along of Paul Overstreet’s greatest hits. The only piece I don't have figured out is who will speak. I would like Aaron Weisser to share, but he will likely be too choked up (you know how he gets). Scott Fraley could share some funny stories about selling encyclopedias. That really has nothing to do with me, but it’s always fun to hear. We could just do an open mic as long as you guys promise not to let my brother-in-law, Josiah Fisher, have a turn. Unfortunately, our best option for speaker at my funeral would be the dead guy in the bucket. I know exactly what passage I would share. I know exactly what message I would give. If I were preaching at my own funeral, I would turn to the passage that has most clearly defined the gospel in my own experience. Ironically enough, this very gospel passage is found in the Old Testament. Since I can't preach it at my own funeral, I decided to beat the rush and preach on Nehemiah 8 this Sunday. No need to bring flowers. Skip"

The oft-mentioned “Thrillon” (Dillon) joins Steve and Joey as their special guest this week, and he comes bearing some mighty fine gifts: ten pale-variety beers from Massachusetts-based Tree House Brewery for us to share and sample on the air! After this extended suds-bud session, the boys talk about their experience at the recent 7th birthday party for Noble Ale Works, which underpromised and overdelivered in a MAJOR (nelson) way! Their 2nd Canniversary Triple Hazy IPA was a big hit, as were its variants, and the biggest (and most pleasant!) surprise was their wide variety of Lactose infused Cereal Beers, flavored with Apple Jacks, Golden Grahams, Froot Loops, Reese’s Puffs, Crunchberries, and Cocoa Pebbles. We also try out our new portable recorder for the first time, so you can witness us getting more and more drunk and idiotic as the day went on.

Quick, what do these things have in common: Cocoa Pebbles and Winston cigarettes? One answer might be that Fred Flintstone is their biggest fan. Another might be that they’re highly addictive. And that’s not the only thing they share. When former dentist Cristin Kearns was told at a conference that sugary sweet tea was a healthy choice, she went searching for evidence that the sugar industry was trying to spin the science. What she found was a strategy to push products and influence policymakers borrowed straight from the playbook of Big Tobacco. In this episode, we follow up on an investigation by Duke University’s Ways & Means podcast into the way the sugar industry has borrowed from Big Tobacco in responding to threats from regulators. Welcome to Episode one hundred and eleven, the first podcast of 2013! As you may recall, Jeff Lester and Graeme McMillan have several dozen questions hanging over heads left by listeners last year. How many do we actually manage to answer in this two hour podcast? Write the number down on a piece of paper before listening and then check it at the end. You will be astounded! As always you can find our show notes over at Savage Critic Dot com, and considering we do not get around to discussing comics until the thirty-eight minute mark, you may want to check the show notes to make sure we talk about what you want to hear when you want to hear it! Because topics today include the Triumvirate of Cocoa: Cocoa Puffs, Cocoa Krispies, and Cocoa Pebbles; the first season of American Horror Story; the TV adaptation of Tommy and Tuppence; Misfits; Canadian Television; Amazing Spider-Man #700; Final Crisis; Batman and the Outsiders Annual #1; Sachie-Chan Good by Akira Toriyama and Masakazu Katsura; Flash #15 Prophet #32, and--as if we could avoid it--much, much more. As always, we hope you enjoy, thank you for listening…and Happy New Year!
