In 1996, he was selected first overall by the Ottawa Senators, not knowing at the time that he'd spend the next 17 years in the nation's capital, playing in 1179 career games. His charitable contributions to the community were many, one being Candlelighters which helps families that have a child battling cancer. He now is the co-owner of the Big Rig Brewery and is enjoying life after hockey with his wife Erin and 3 kids, Ben, Zoey, and Naomi. Enjoy the conversation :)
On this playoff episode of Crusaders Pregame, hosts Zach Marks and Dawson Petryshen recap the Crusaders season, and set up their first round series with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. Although it didn't end the way they would have liked, the Crusaders punched their ticket into the postseason in game number 60 against the Drayton Valley Thunder. Logan Hauer snapped a 20 game goalless drought to open the scoring on the powerplay, Sammy May and Stephen Kirkpatrick took a 2-1 lead for the Thunder but the Cru kept fighting. Mitchell Joss tied things up 27 seconds into the final frame, Kadyn Chabot regained the lead yet again, but Joss added another with 45 seconds remaining to force overtime, and with that, grab the lone point needed to clinch a playoff berth. Chabot collected his second of the game to take an overtime victory, but Cru fans and players could rest easy. All the action can be found on HockeyTV or Average Joe's Friday and Saturday in Fort McMurray, or grab a ticket to support your team on Tuesday and Wednesday in Sherwood Park, puck drop is at 7:30 and 7:15 p.m. in the respective arenas.

Unfortunately, a similar story as a three goal third period from the Bulldogs propelled them to a 4-0 decision. Dawson had a chance to speak with Crusaders head coach and assistant general manager Jeff Woywitka (9:22) on the recent scoring struggles and what needs to change. All the action can be found on HockeyTV, or grab a ticket to support your team, puck drop is at 7:15 p.m. at the Randy Rosen Rink and 7:30 p.m. in Fort McMurray on Saturday.
On this episode of Crusaders Pregame, hosts Zach Marks and Dawson Petryshen discuss the return to the Randy Rosen Rink, and preview the end of month homestand, beginning with a set against the Canmore Eagles and Calgary Canucks. Wednesday's tilt against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons was a thriller, although a relatively uneventful first period; only one goal, coming shorthanded courtesy of Danny Ciccarello. In the middle frame, the Oil Barons made it 2-0, but the Cru fought back. Evan Arnold and Cale Ashcroft knotted things up at two, then the two teams traded goals to close out the period. Rider McCallum gave Fort McMurray a lead five minutes into the third, and Mitchell Joss tied the game with less than 20 seconds to play. Unfortunately, the Cru were bested in the shootout and walk away with a 5-4 loss. Friday's contest against the Okotoks Oilers was a frustrating one for Sherwood Park, as they collected just one goal in a 2-1 loss. The next night in Olds happened to be a much different story, with both Arnold brothers, Zac Maxwell, and Bruce MacGregor all tallied for the Cru and they went home with a 4-1 victory to close out the skid; the team collected five out of eight points in the last four games. All the action can be found on HockeyTV or grab a ticket to the game and support your team, puck drop is at 7:15 p.m. tonight in Sherwood Park.

Looking to head into the holiday break with momentum, the Cru faced off against the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and Whitecourt Wolverines on a home and home series. The former of the two games ended in heartbreak for Sherwood Park, as they went into the third period up 3-0 over the Mob but a five-goal performance led by Taige Harding gave Fort McMurray the win. Following this, the Crusaders went into Whitecourt the next night and bounced back with a 4-1 win including Levi Fesyk's first AJHL goal. Dawson also had a chance to speak with assistant coach Adam Sergerie and defenceman Brett Ursulak before the midweek split, about how far the team has come and how they feel coming out of the eight day break. On this episode of Crusaders Pregame, host Dawson Petryshen recaps the loss to the Lloydminster Bobcats, and previews the final two games before the holiday break: the Fort McMurray Oil Barons, and Whitecourt Wolverines. After a big 4-1 win over the Drumheller Dragons, the Crusaders hoped to continue to gain ground on the Bobcats. Bruce MacGregor opened the scoring just five and a half minutes in, but on the very next play, former Crusader Tanner Fincaryk ties the game at one apiece. Lloydminster would then erupt for four goals in the second; Carter Chorney would beat Kolby Thornton for the team's second powerplay goal of the game but it wasn't enough as Jared Miller added one more and the Bobcats walked away with a 6-2 decision. Dawson also had a chance to speak with head coach Jeff Woywitka ahead of this weekend's matchups, about where the team is at and what they need to do to keep winning. Sherwood Park got unanswered goals from six different players, and Gus Bylin made 25 of 26 saves en route to a 6-1 victory. Sunday was a touch closer, but three goals from Mitchell Joss and another solid goaltending performance from Marek Pocherewny gave the Crusaders a 5-2 win over the Olds Grizzlys. Marek Pocherewny made 23 of 29 saves in the loss. Dawson also spoke with assistant captain Bruce MacGregor ahead of this matchup against the Grande Prairie Storm, discussing what the team needs to do to begin their crawl out of the basement in the North.
