Canada's energy sector has long struggled with low productivity on the front line, as indeed the entire Canadian economy. Despite heroic efforts by tradespeople, their effectiveness is hamstrung by badly dated processes, old disconnected systems, and paper-based workflows. The problem isn't the workers. It's that they're too often sent out with the wrong drawings, the wrong tools, the wrong permits, or even to the wrong location. Multiply that by a hundreds of thousands of jobs, and you've got a national productivity drag. One company, MSCP Heat Management Solutions, set out to build a completely paperless, digitally connected operation, starting at the job site. By linking trades, materials, safety workflows, and quality processes into a seamless digital flow, MSCP has achieved something few believe is possible: cutting required manpower by 40% to 45% on major jobs. In this episode, I speak with Chris Maki, MSCP's founder and CEO, on lessons he took from Fort McMurray's distant job sites and turned them into a blueprint for frontline innovation, cross-trade productivity, and system-level change. We talk technology, training, and trust, and why it's not about buying a platform, but building a mindset.
My son, who is 14, and I have been to a couple of shows together recently, including taking a trip to Vancouver to see JID and more recently, a drive to nearby Sherwood Park to see Sloan, just ahead of us heading to the Aviary in Edmonton to see Julianna Riolino on November 23. And so, we decided to record a pod about these experiences and people, and ponder what it means to see live music together, as a dad and son.Featuring music produced by Levon Khanna.EVERY OTHER COMPLETE KREATIVE KONTROL EPISODE IS ONLY ACCESSIBLE TO MONTHLY $6 USD PATREON SUPPORTERS. Rural Alberta is not backing down. In recent town halls, long-time farmers and landowners jeered senior UCP political staffers pitching the government's plan for cleaning up decades of oil and gas well problems. They see broken trust — and they're demanding real accountability. In this episode, we're joined by Drew Anderson of The Narwhal (3:00), who's been in the thick of this coverage. He'll help us make sense of the divide: the Alberta of tight-knit rural communities, and the Alberta of big-oil power brokers. Mark Carney's taking punches from political opponents, who say the Prime Minister hasn't delivered on his promise to "deal with" Donald Trump. Max Fawcett, lead columnist at Canada's National Observer, says it's too early to say whether or not Carney's plan has failed. We get into Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre's tweet about Canadian energy shut out in Europe, and MP Michelle Rempel Garner poking Carney about increased tariffs despite his "elbows up" campaign. Robbie is a massive fan of oddities which leads to a conversation about owning human skulls. There's a store in Sherwood Park that was selling one and we discuss the ethics and legalities of it. Who do you think should be regarded as some of Edmonton's best duos? There aren't' as many options as you may think... Pepper hosted a comedy show at an adult lifestyle club and we have so many questions. The main one being, did Pepper take part in the adult festivities? He breaks down what it was like on stage. Sad news about the death of Malcom-Jamal Warner's death leads to a bit of a morbid conversation with a very hard question to answer. If you were forced to choose, who would you save from drowning first? We tease the launch of a Pepper & Dylan merch store!
On today's episode of The Candice Malcolm Show, Dragon's Den star and investor Brett Wilson makes a bold prediction: former Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault won't survive the year. Brett joins Candice to talk about how the Liberals are trying to reinvent themselves under Mark Carney — but can't seem to shake the Trudeau-era dogma that made them unappealing to Canadians in the first place. Also, Premier Danielle Smith's Alberta Next town halls are officially underway. Her panel is touring the province over the next two months, asking Albertans six big questions — including whether Alberta should withdraw from the Canada Pension Plan, take over immigration, or even lead a push to amend the Constitution. Candice and Brett break down the first two stops in Red Deer and Sherwood Park, where hundreds of attendees showed up to demand more autonomy — and in some cases, outright separation. One Red Deer resident told the panel: “There is one question, and one question only, that needs to be on a referendum: 'Do you support Alberta exiting Canadian confederation?'” Next, they discuss the Premiers meetings in Muskoka, Ontario, and Prime Minister Mark Carney's emergency meetings to discuss President Trump's tariffs. Finally, they discuss the longest ballot initiative and how nearly 200 candidates will be running in the upcoming by-election where Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre will run to regain a seat in the House of Commons after losing his Ottawa-area riding in the recent general election.
