Last Saturday is a day that will be remembered in Galway GAA for a long time following the success of the Galway U15 and U16 Hurling teams in All-Ireland Finals.  The U15 team won the Arrabawn A Cup beating Tipperary by 4-12 to 3-8 and the U16 team followed suit with a 2-17 to 0-12 win over Tipperary in their final. Managers of the U15's Aidan Ryan and U16's Shane Cusack spoke to John Mulligan about their teams' successes.

Anna and Joel are the hosts of the popular Swedish ski instructor podcast 'Skidlärarpodden'.  When they aren't doing that, Joel and Anna are working ski instructors.   Joel runs the ski school in Kittelfjäll and is an instructor and course leader within Friluftsfrämjandet (The Swedish Outdoor Organization) for the past eight years. He's involved in instructor education through Friluftsfrämjandet and is a passionate moguls skier. Anna is involved in training leaders and ski instructors in Friluftsfämjandet, and is chairman of the Swedish ski exams. She is an Alpine ski coach in Kungsbergets AK for U14 and U16. She was a member of the Swedish demo team in Pomporovo and Levi. We had a very wide ranging chat covering the backstory for Anna and Joel, instructor systems in Sweden, the technical models, hockey (again, sorry!), interski and falling off of bicycles. Coach Stan Waterman shares his journey from growing up in Wilmington, Delaware to becoming the Head Coach at Delaware State.After playing Division I basketball at the University of Delaware he began his coaching journey at as an Assistant Coach at Wilmington and then moved onto the Sanford School. Jamilon (Jami) Muelders is a highly accomplished Field Hockey coach and athlete with extensive international experience.  With a journey that includes winning a World Cup title as a player in 2002, Jami is one of only three individuals in the hockey world to have the extraordinary distinction of becoming a world champion both on the field and from the sidelines. Currently the Performance Manager for the Dutch Hockey Association (KNHB), he oversees the U16 to U21 national youth teams, guiding coaches and staff while structuring their training programs. Prior to that, Jami led the Dutch women's national team, capturing the World Cup gold medal in 2022. His expertise also played a pivotal role in the German men's national team securing their own World Cup gold in 2023 as an assistant coach.  His coaching journey includes a European Championship gold medal and an Olympic bronze medal with the German women's team at the Rio 2016 Games, followed by a bronze medal with the Chinese women's team at the 2018 Asian Games. Most recently, Jami contributed to a silver medal for the German men's team at the Paris 2024 Olympics, marking a significant milestone in his coaching career. What sets Jami apart is his coaching philosophy, which harmonizes peak performance with personal well-being. This unique blend of playing and coaching experience not only highlights his profound understanding of the game but also underscores his unwavering commitment to nurturing talent and fostering winning mindsets. Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.Atlanta United finished off a disappointing home stand with a 1-0 loss to New England on Saturday afternoon at the Benz. Atlanta was the better team on paper once again, but conceded a penalty and little else to the Revs. It was a frustrating day because Atlanta hit the crossbar, the post, and had two goals wiped away due to offside infractions. As I said on the Full Time Report, not going to get into the judgment calls that can be justified by the referee crew. We can disagree, but they can be justified in their interpretations. My issue is the lack of control at times and the lack of yellow cards for persistent infringement, which could have changed things late in the match. New England committed 10 fouls between the 40th and 60th minutes, most of them in the middle third in transition moments or Atlanta build-up play. One yellow card was shown. 20 fouls on the day for the Revs and two yellow cards shown. For better matches in MLS, referees need to use yellow cards for persistent infringement (after warnings of course to try to change the behavior). No one wants to watch one team who isn't really interested in playing much kick the other team repeatedly with limited repercussions.With that being said, Atlanta didn't convert on its chances again, made a defensive mistake again, and didn't take advantage of outplaying the opponent again. Mistakes by individuals have to be eliminated, production has to increase, and an emotional response is needed in games when they're getting away. The team is working hard, but sometimes there isn't that hard foul, or positive body language, or protecting teammates that can generate some momentum in the stands and on the field. It's something I hope to see grow in this group, a little bit of an edge and a little bit of nastiness when needed. Brian White scored 4 times for Vancouver as they demolished Austin 5-1, even with a mouse running onto the field at BC Place. Columbus and Miami remain unbeaten ahead of their showdown in Cleveland on Saturday. Portland is unbeaten in 5 after their 4-2 win in Kansas City. Atlanta United's U18's are off to an unbeaten start at the Generation adidas Cup in Florida, while the U16's need a win today to possibly reach the knockout round. Both teams play San Jose today in Bradenton.Mo Salah broke the Premier League record for goal contributions in a season as Liverpool defeated West Ham 2-1. Newcastle, without Eddie Howe who is in the hospital with an unspecified illness, won 4-1 over Manchester United to solidify their Champions League chase. Fulham is on the road at Bournemouth today, a win would put them 4 points back from the Champions League spots. Kylian Mbappe will be lucky to escape a long suspension after a horrific challenge that saw a red card in Real Madrid's 1-0 win over Alaves.Chelsea's women are still on course for a quadruple as they beat Liverpool to reach the FA Cup final. Two time Olympian Philip Doyle secured a historic bronze medal for Ireland in Rowing at the Paris Olympics with his teammate Daire Lynch. With an impressive resume that includes two World Cup Silver Medals, a World Championship Bronze and Silver Medal, and a Tokyo Olympic Semi-Final appearance, it was Paris 2024 where Philip's Olympic Medal dreams came true.  A high achiever from a young age his sporting talent saw him embrace many sports from soccer and gaelic, to cricket, athletics and swimming before field hockey became his sport of choice.  Playing it to a high level he represented Ireland at U16 in the European Championship. Off the field of play Philip's academic ability saw him graduate from Queen's University in Belfast with a first class honours in Medical Science and a Medical Degree  It wasn't until a decade or so ago that Philip first took up rowing, whilst at university, the former Abercrombie & Fitch model took to his new sport like a duck to water and it wasn't long before he was winning races and excelling in his new found sport.  In this podcast Philip shares a snippet of his life as an elite athlete, the rigorous training routines, mental fortitude and nutritional strategies required to perform at his best, all whilst balancing a demanding medical career. In this week's basketball coaching conversation, NBA Skills coach and Columbus High School head coach Andrew Moran shares ideas on coaching EYBL, high school and training players.Andrew Moran is a highly successful EYBL and high school coach, an NBA Skills Coach, an International clinician, and the Miami Hoop School Founder. He has won an unprecedented three-straight EYBL Championships with Nightrydas Elite in the U15, U16, and U17 divisions. At the high school level, he has won four state championships including three in a row at Columbus High School, and one at Miami Christian High School.Founded in 2012 by Moran, the Miami Hoop School has grown to become the authority on basketball elite skill development and certification in South Florida. His experience serves him well, as he works with players at the NBA, international, collegiate, and high school levels. Andrew has trained NBA players such as Tim Hardaway Jr, Tyler Herro, James Johnson, James Wiseman, Cole Anthony, and many more.Andrew travels around the Globe training athletes of all levels and because he is fluent in Spanish he has been granted many opportunities to train in places like Argentina, many different cities in Spain (Canary Islands, Huelva, Vinaros, Barcelona, Tenerife, Las Palmas), Panama, Chile, and Puerto Rico to name a few. MHS also hosts international groups and clients who come to Miami, Florida just to train with MHS. Clients from Japan, Israel, Mexico, Argentina, Germany, Russia, the Caribbean, Ecuador, China, France, and Dubai have all come to train with the best.

The GAA's decision to end the practice of allowing U16s to attend games for free has created a lot of debate in recent days. They will charge U16s €5 per game for next season's Allianz League Division One and Two games in both codes - 1A and 1B in hurling. This will be an extension of the financial arrangement that exists for Championship games, with higher prices set for the latter stages of the All-Ireland series. The GAA said it reserves the right to increase these prices for games that may reach capacity. U16 tickets can only be purchased with an adult ticket, while juveniles can still avail of free admission to Division Three and Four football and Division Two and Three hurling games.
