When Archie Griffin won his unprecedented 2nd Heisman Trophy Award in 1975 he was heralded as the best running back in the nation. But was he? Finishing 2nd in the voting was a beast out west by the name of Chuck Muncie and the senior Golden Bear was putting up huge numbers in Berkeley. In fact, in 17 fewer rushing attempts than Griffin, Chuck had 103 more yards rushing and 9 more TD's. Add in the 26 more receptions and 234 more yards receiving than the Buckeyes Back and you could make a strong case that Muncie, the guy on the cover of the 11/24/75 issue of Sports Illustrated, should have come home with the Heisman hardware. At the next level, Muncie continued to excel becoming a 3-time Pro Bowl back in the NFL with his best season coming in 1981 when he had over 1,500 yards from scrimmage and 19 touchdowns in the high-powered offense in San Diego. The Chargers were loaded with offensive weapons: Muncie and James Brooks in the backfield with John Jefferson, Charlie Joiner, Wes Chandler and Kellen Winslow catching everything in sight. Muncie passed away in May of 2013 but the man who ran that “Air Coryell” offense Dan Fouts joins us on the POP podcast to talk about how good a back and what a weapon Muncie was while playing with the Chargers. Fouts discusses the famous playoff shootout in Miami, known as the Kellen Winslow game. A game in which the Hall of Fame QB threw for 433 yards, and 3 touchdowns in the 41-38 San Diego overtime victory over Miami. Fouts recalls how the next week he and his team suffered through frigid temps in Cincinnati and how the lingering effects of frost bite have been in his hands ever since. And he talks about being part of possibly the best Hall of Fame class (1993) of all-time: Larry Little, Bill Walsh, Chuck Noll, Walter Payton and Dan Fouts! One of the greatest QB's to ever sling it in the NFL looks back on his Hall of Fame career and gives an in depth look at SI caveman and his former teammate Chuck Muncie on the Past Our Prime podcast. Welcome back to another episode of the Imagen Golf Podcast. I'm your host, Daniel Guest, and I am thrilled you are here with me today.Whether you're driving to the course, sitting in the office dreaming of the weekend, or maybe you're on the range right now—thank you for tuning in. Our goal here at Imagen Golf is simple: we want to get you playing better golf, faster, and having a whole lot more fun doing it.Today, I want to talk about something that drives me absolutely crazy when I watch amateurs play. It is a mistake that costs you strokes, it costs you distance, and frankly, it makes this difficult game even harder. And the worst part? It's completely free to fix.I'm talking about the Tee Box. Specifically, the refusal to use a tee, or using it incorrectly.I see it all the time. We get to a Par 3, or maybe a short Par 4 where you're hitting an iron off the tee. I watch a guy walk up, drop his ball on the grass, kick it with his foot to make sure it's sitting up, and then whack at it.Folks, stop it. Just stop it.The Golden Rule of the Tee BoxHere is the reality: Golf is the only sport where you start with the ball in your hand.Think about that. In baseball, the pitcher throws it at you at 95 miles an hour. In tennis, they serve it at you. In golf, you get to decide exactly where that ball sits before you start the hole. There is a famous quote by the Golden Bear himself, Jack Nicklaus. He said:"Air offers less resistance than dirt."Let that sink in. Air offers less resistance than dirt. When you are on the tee box, you have the opportunity to give yourself the perfect lie. Why would you ever choose to hit off the turf when you can tee it up? When you hit off the turf, you risk catching it fat, catching it thin, or having a blade of grass get between the clubface and the ball, killing your spin. When you tee it up—even just a quarter of an inch—you are removing the earth from the equation. You are giving yourself a clean strike. The "Ego" IssueNow, I know what some of you are thinking. "But Daniel, I hit my irons better off the turf. I don't want to tee it up with a 7-iron, that looks like a crutch."Listen to me closely: Checking your ego is the first step to lowering your handicap.Turn on the TV on Sunday. Watch the PGA Tour or the LPGA Tour. Watch the best players in the world on a Par 3. Do you know what they do? They use a tee. Every single time.If Tiger Woods uses a tee on a Par 3, you should too. If you tee it up just slightly above the grass, you increase the margin for error. You can hit slightly higher on the face and still get a great result. You ensure clean contact. The Strategy of the Tee BoxNow that we agree you must use a tee, let's talk about where you place it. This is the second biggest mistake I see. Most golfers walk up, stick their tee dead in the middle of the two markers, and fire away. But you are missing a massive strategic advantage. Here is the Imagen Golf rule of thumb: Tee up on the side of trouble.Scenario A: There is an Out of Bounds or a lake on the right. You should tee your ball up on the far right side of the tee box. Why? Because it angles your body to aim away from the trouble toward the left, safe side of the fairway.Scenario B: The trouble is on the left. Tee up on the far left. You are opening up the angle to hit into the safety of the fairway. It's a simple visual trick that changes your perspective and subconsciously makes you aim for the fat part of the green or fairway. The TakeawaySo, here is your homework for the next round.Never hit off the dirt on a tee box. I don't care if it's a wedge or a driver. Use a tee. Give yourself that perfect lie.Find the trouble. Look at the hole. Where is the danger?Use the box. Move your tee placement to create the best angle for your shot.Golf is hard enough. Don't let the ground get in your way before you've even started the hole. Remember, air offers less resistance than dirt. Give yourself the advantage. That's it for today's short game tip—well, actually, it's a long game tip too!If you want to see this in action, or if you're struggling with your game, head over to ImagenGolf.com. We've got lesson packages, more podcasts, and blogs designed to help you see the game differently.

At Kutztown University, we pride ourselves on being a community that cares deeply for one another. Our students' dreams are made possible not only through their hard work, but also through the collective compassion and generosity that define the Golden Bear spirit. Today, that spirit is being called upon once again. Due to the delayed passage of the Pennsylvania state budget, PA State Grant funds – which many students depend on to pay for tuition and basic needs – have not yet been released. Compounding the challenge, the federal government shutdown has disrupted SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits nationwide. Many of our students now find themselves without the resources to afford groceries, toiletries and other everyday essentials. If you are a student in need of help, how can you receive it? Or if you are faculty, staff, or alumni, how can you give help? All those answers are in this interview between KUR and Leah Cassellia, Senior Director, McFarland Student Union and Student Involvement.

Send us a textA putter on a garage shelf became a doorway to memory, legacy, and what it means to lead at home. Coach and author Joe Wessel joins us to trace a winding path from a disciplined Miami childhood and Catholic schools to a walk-on grind at Florida State, summers learning from Miami Dolphins legends, and the day Jack Nicklaus confirmed the “lost” blade in Joe's bag was White Fang—the putter that won the 1967 U.S. Open. Instead of asking for a shiny new set, Joe asked for something better: a father–son round at Augusta. We talk about what built him: a mother who showed up at every game, a father who enforced persistence and faith, and a military prep school that hardened habits after loss. Joe shares the reality of earning a scholarship the hard way, becoming a special teams difference-maker, and absorbing leadership from many mentors in his life. The athletic details are rich—technique, timing, depth charts—but the bigger arc lands on fatherhood: discovering that the hero you searched for might have been at your own dinner table all along.Parents and coaches will find practical wisdom here: don't specialize your kids at 10, grow athletes, not resumes, protect the joy of play, and let your children write their own story. Say I'm sorry. Say I love you. Keep faith as a daily practice, not a performance. We close with the heart of Joe's book, White Fang and the Golden Bear—a father–son journey that culminates at Augusta and proves that the best trophies are moments shared. If this conversation moved you, tap follow, share it with a friend who needs encouragement today, and leave a quick review so more families can find it.Support the showPlease don't forget to leave us a review wherever you consume your podcasts!
