Spent 34 years, nine months, 15 days incarcerated for murder my cousin committed while we are out drinking and shooting pool. After serving 10 years of life sentence without parole, I receive Christ as my savior they turn my life around from drugs and making alcohol to a ministry, that would help other inmates find liberty and forgiveness. I would spend another 25 years in prison before a judge vacated. My sentence stating it was illegal, my attorney lied to me and my sentence was unconstitutional. I was released April 2012 and have lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area working as a chaplain for Babe's Chicken Dinner House. I've also authored the book unshackled from Maryland to redemption, and I am privileged to travel and speak around the country.

When he was just 17 years old, Gene McGuire was wrongfully convicted of a murder that he did not commit. His sentence was devastating: life in prison without the possibility of parole. He spent 35 years behind bars before he was released, but his eventual freedom came only after years of navigating the court system and dealing with unsympathetic public defenders. While in prison, Gene became a born-again Christian, and that changed his life forever. He was able to forgive others who had wronged him as Christ forgives us. His testimony is a powerful example of how Jesus can use any situation for His glory. Today, Gene is a pastor, author, and speaker who boldly shares his incredible life-changing story around the country. An expert on Crime and Redemption. He served nearly 35 years in prison for a murder he did not commit. He's the author of Unshackled and has become a much-sought after speaker Gene Mcguire joins JT to discuss this isn't the first time social media has been used to hold a free video seminar on how to commit a crime. What's next -- videos on how to mug an old lady? Why aren't social media companies more aggressive at removing video crime lessons?
One of the highlights of my news career was I freed an innocent man from prison. He had served five and a half years, and it was an honor to be a part of his freedom. I can't even imagine being in prison for nearly 35 years for something you didn't do, but our guest today knows all about that. Gene McGuire is an author, a speaker, and was wrongfully convicted.
At age 52, Tammy Ecker, was diagnosed with COPD and she has been fully oxygen dependent for quite some time. She was facing End Stage COPD, which has no cure. We did a podcast April 16th with Tammy and Gene on what was ahead for a lung transplant and the challenges she faced. She, Gene, family and friends prayed for a miracle. WELL THAT MIRACLE HAPPENED! Tammy got her lung transplant and Gene McGuire joins the YJHTL podcast sharing her amazing recovery from surgery with some fascinating stories. This podcast brings you into the world of how transplants operate (pun intended) and even some funny stories. Count on that always happening when you put Gene and David together. During all of this she has kept her sense of humor and explains why and how she has done it. Presently, she has alot to live for with three daughters, five grand kids, two neices and her man Gene McGuire. Tammy continues to go through it all with a sense of humor and now she could use you dollars and cents. She has set up a go fund me page as she kindly asks for your generous help. Gene McGuire is a great human being who is very very funny. He achieved great success as Stand-up Comedian Healiner in clubs all over the country, but when that began to dry up, he didn't. Gene began drinking more. This podcast is Gene's journey through physch hospitals, rehabs facilities and group homes. He graciously share his story through selfish addiction hell to the promised land of healing, love and selflessness. There is a happy ending to his story which he lives now with Tami. In his book, Unshackled, he recounts 34 years, nine months, and 15 days of incarceration steeped in the culture of violence, drugs, and pornography that is prison life, all while serving a life sentence for a crime he didn't commit. He not only writes about the incident that changed his life as a teenager, he also points to another life changing moment many years later. http://www.genemcguire.org http://instagram.com/genemcguire4192

One of the Dictionary.com definitions of "Chains" is a series of objects connected one after the other used for various purposes. Another definition says it's something that binds or restrains. A lot of times, the seasons or memories in our life connect one after another. If the season or memory was a negative or traumatic event - no matter how long or short the season was, it can become a chain in our life if we don't learn how to lay down our burdens and even receive healing for any wounds in our heart. We have to forgive when it's hard to forgive. We have to learn from each season and see what God wants to speak to our hearts about each one. Chains can hold us back from experiencing life in the fullness and joy that Got created for each one of us. One of my friends, Gene McGuire lived a life not only bound in spiritual chains, but also physically as he spent over 30 years behind bars for a crime he never actually committed - only was in the wrong place at the wrong time. His pursuit and determination to become free spiritually, also began to pave the way for freedom physically. As Gene pursued true freedom, God was relentlessly persistent to reach Gene with His unfailing love. You will be so inspired and amazing hearing this beautiful story! If you want to reach Gene personally, you can find him on his website, http://www.ak4192.com/
