This sermon examines the brutal mockery and physical torment Jesus endured prior to His crucifixion, as recorded in Mark 15. Craig highlights how Roman soldiers' cruel jests, including the purple robe and crown of thorns, ironically proclaim the truth of Jesus' kingship while revealing the depth of human depravity. By analyzing details such as Simon of Cyrene carrying the cross, the text underscores Jesus' full humanity and His active concern for others even in extreme weakness. The message emphasizes that the spiritual weight of bearing sin outweighs the physical agony, pointing to the profound mystery of God's love and redemption. Ultimately, the sermon invites listeners to contemplate the unfathomable humility of Christ and the magnitude of the sacrifice made for humanity.

An innocent schoolteacher had strangers show up at his home over the Nancy Guthrie case — a crime he had absolutely nothing to do with. The sheriff told him to sue. He hasn't. Almost no one has. And there's a reason. It's a legal breakdown with former prosecutor and defense attorney Eric Faddis and retired FBI agent Robin Dreeke.Tony Brueski digs into the legal roads ahead for the Guthrie family and the people who've branded them — and total strangers — as guilty. Nancy's relatives were cleared early. The accusations never stopped. Tony breaks down who actually has a case here: why a private citizen falsely tied to a violent abduction may hold one of the cleaner defamation claims around, and why Savannah Guthrie, as a public figure, would face a much steeper climb than the neighbor pulled into this for nothing. He also takes on the question everyone asks and few answer honestly: if these accusations are so damaging, why hasn't anyone gone to court? The uncomfortable answer is that the loudest accusers are often anonymous and judgment-proof — you can win and collect nothing. Tony explains what that means for accountability, why a smart accuser stays just inside the line, where citizen journalism ends and criminal conduct begins, and whether destroying an innocent person's reputation is effectively free in this country. This is the part of the Nancy Guthrie story with no kidnapper in it — just the wreckage a public obsession leaves behind, and the legal system's strangely quiet response to it.Full conversation inside.END_LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Hired when Billy Joel wanted “a New York-style drummer,” Liberty DeVitto laid down indelible parts for the singer-songwriter-pianist's music from 1976's Turnstiles onward. In part one of a lively two-part conversation, this big-talent, big-personality drummer takes us from his early years, when his and Joel's teenage bands crossed paths, through their shared success with The Stranger, 52nd Street, Glass Houses, The Nylon Curtain and An Innocent Man. Which Joel song does DeVitto call “the hardest to play and be happy about it”? How did Joel introduce and develop songs with the band? What impact did producer Phil Ramone's arrival have? On which song did Ramone and DeVitto butt heads over a disco beat? How did the band arrive at the jazz interludes on “Zanzibar”? How much were they listening to the punk/New Wave of the time? Which Nylon Curtain song may be DeVitto's favorite by Joel? What circumstances drove Joel's hit throwback album An Innocent Man?

More space is devoted to Jesus's trial before the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate in the Gospel of John than any of the other three Gospels.  While tragic and disturbing, what happened reveals the heart of the Savior who, while an innocent man was condemned to death by a guilty verdict.  Three times Pilate declared Jesus innocent (18:38; 19:4; 6), yet for the sake of political expediency and religious bias, he allowed Jesus to be crucified.  Each of Pilate's affirmations of Jesus's innocence testify to the perfection of the Son of God and His redemptive mission as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Kari and Joe have friend of the podcast Chad back to revisit a topic he thought of a couple years back: songs that debuted just as the decade was ending that probably are more 90s but that we still love. This time around Joe Cocker, The Smithereens, After 7, Pixies are in the mix along with one acid house DJ with too many names (Dancing Danny D, Danny D, D-Mob) and another acid house DJ with infinite uses of the lyric "welcome to the 90s". Thanks dude, we have been welcomed. All this, plus tidbits covering the Christmas UK number one and a cover of the most beloved 80s Christmas song that raises so many questions and provides no answers. Discograffiti is the deep-dive podcast for music obsessives.  In this episode, host Dave Gebroe talks with the epitome of DIY punk spirit (who can also write a pop hook like the best of ‘em), the great Mark Robinson (of Unrest, Grenadine, Air Miami, Flin Flon, Uncomfortable Police, et al), and together they discuss Billy Joel's entire recorded output with commentary, stories, and star ratings for every release. If you're a long-time listener, then you know that Dave has harbored a long-time hatred of Billy Joel…so why the sudden turnaround in taste? Part 6 covers the time after his divorce, a time when most people tend to sit around and sulk, but not Billy—he dated multiple supermodels, settled down with one, and became happy to an extent that managed to prove conclusively that great art absolutely can not be created by very happy people. And he also managed to make and release An Innocent Man and The Bridge.  The goal for this and the next episode was to make great art about bad art, to create two podcast episodes in inverse qualitative proportion to the rock bottom records being discussed. Mark and Dave accomplished their goal. Here are just a few of the many things that Mark discusses with Discograffiti in this podcast: That time when Billy's music became more ubiquitous than oxygen, and how he—and more importantly we—dealt with that; The various acts and song styles that Billy co-opted to create An Innocent Man; The unfortunate, damaging effect that An Innocent Man had on Dave's perception of Billy Joel and his music, until only recently; The wildly successful Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 & 2, which went double diamond and whose two new tracks both became hits; The heavy Huey Lewis & The News, Sting, and Cyndi Lauper vibe of The Bridge; And an in-depth deep dive on every song off An Innocent Man and The Bridge. Reposted from They Did What?!, which you can find now or very soon at: https://podcastica.com/podcast/they-did-what — Kelsey and Gen discuss Long Shot, released in 2017 and directed by Jacob LaMendola, tells the story of Juan Catalan, a Los Angeles man wrongfully accused of murder and facing a possible life sentence for a crime he did not commit. His salvation ultimately comes from a rather unexpected source: background footage captured during the filming of the HBO show Curb Your Enthusiasm. The documentary walks through how easily Catalan is swept into the criminal justice system, how thin the evidence against him actually is, and how close he comes to being convicted before a fluke of timing, geography, and television production intervenes, raising uncomfortable question about how much luck is involved in proving our innocence on any given day. He is still on death row, but at least Texas can't execute him on Thursday. In January 2002, 2-year-old Nikki Curtis died from chronic double pneumonia and septic shock, which doctors had been treating. But as she clung to life, some doctors and nurses began to wonder…what if her father had actually shaken her? A doctor diagnosed Nikki with Shaken Baby Syndrome, which is now considered junk science. Still, the state of Texas plans to execute Nikki's father, Robert Roberson, III on October 16, 2025. Sign the Petition: https://innocenceproject.org/petitions/justice-for-robert-roberson/ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/badactspodPodMoth: https://podmoth.network/Ad: The Lost Signal Podcast — https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-lost-signal-podcast/id1465964518 Episode Source List:https://lrl.texas.gov/currentissues/clips/resultsLinkclip.cfm?clipID=417836&headline=Doctors%20and%20the%20prosecutor%20say%20an%20autistic%20man%20didn%27t%20kill%20his%20child%2E%20Will%20Texas%20put%20him%20to%20death%3F https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/24pdf/24a349_8m58.pdfhttps://www.supremecourt.gov/search.aspx?filename=/docket/docketfiles/html/public/22-7546.html https://www.scotusblog.com/2024/10/supreme-court-declines-to-intervene-in-robert-robersons-execution/ https://tcadp.org/2024/10/17/state-of-texas-scheduled-to-execute-robert-roberson/ https://drive.google.com/file/d/1TXLmDzEsCCKTKdQ78D3I7ziNDgXIuJo2/view https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/death_row/dr_info/robersonrobert.html https://www.themarshallproject.org/2025/10/06/robert-roberson-execution-psychopath-testhttps://innocenceproject.org/news/supporters-call-texas-officials-prevent-october-16th-execution-innocent-man/ https://www.kvue.com/article/news/local/texas/robert-robersons-scheduled-execution-rally/269-a4df632f-9045-4ae6-a92b-dcee88906f04    https://deathpenaltyinfo.org/district-judge-sets-unfortunate-new-execution-date-for-texas-prisoner-robert-roberson-despite-pending-petition-in-support-of-his-innocence-claim https://theappeal.org/robert-roberson-death-penalty-texas-shaken-baby-greg-abbott-clemency/ https://apnews.com/article/general-news-robert-roberson-capital-punishment-ken-paxton-gretchen-sween-3117443193a8ab0bd46b91803112ed4f  https://www.texastribune.org/2025/08/20/robert-roberson-texas-death-row-new-trial-petition/

Today we have returning guest Andre Brown. Andre & his legal team joined us at the end of 2022 when he was released from prison. Andre spent 23 years locked up after being sentenced to 40 years for two counts of attempted murder in 1999, but he always maintained his innocence. A Bronx, New York, judge overturned the conviction in 2022, citing ineffective assistance of counsel. That allowed Brown, who trained as a paralegal, to begin a new life with his wife and two children in Connecticut, where he gave back to the community. But Brown's world came crashing in on Christmas Eve 2024, when the Appellate Division reinstated the conviction on a legal technicality — meaning he would have to serve the remainder of the 40 years and be returned to prison for another 41 years. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark & Governer Kathy Hochul have the power to do what's right. At the very least they can resentence Andre to time served and allow him to be with his family. Let's make sure our support for Andre is heard coast to coast.Links to Crime & Entertainment Like us on Facebook -   / crimeandentertainment  Follow us on IG -    / crimenentertainment  Listen on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/4T67Bs5... When 25-year-old Tim Evans was hanged for killing his wife and 14-month-old daughter in 1949, few outside of his family questioned whether justice had been done. After all, Evans had at one point confessed to the crimes. But during his trial he recanted, saying that a neighbor had killed his 20-year-old wife Beryl during a botched abortion attempt. It seemed a ludicrous attempt at diversion -- until that same neighbor was himself revealed to be a serial killer just three years later. The questions sparked by the case helped fuel a movement to halt the death penalty in Britain. A little past midnight on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis, a US Navy cruiser, had just delivered the uranium that would be used in the first nuclear bomb dropped on Japan, and was returning to the Philippines when it was struck by a Japanese torpedo. The ship was badly damaged in the attack and within ten minutes it rolled onto its side, dumping 890 crewmen into the pitch-black ocean and dragging the remaining 300 down with the ship. Those who survived the torpedo strike did what they could to grab supplies before abandoning ship, but there were very few life boats or life jackets, so many of the sailors had to float in the water or cling to the few rafts they did manage to take before jumping from the boat. To make matters worse, their mission had been highly confidential and no one in the Navy knew where the Indianapolis was, much less that it had sank. The surviving crew thought things were about as bad as they could get, then the sharks began showing up.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1945.
