Today we have returning guest Andre Brown. Andre & his legal team joined us at the end of 2022 when he was released from prison. Andre spent 23 years locked up after being sentenced to 40 years for two counts of attempted murder in 1999, but he always maintained his innocence. A Bronx, New York, judge overturned the conviction in 2022, citing ineffective assistance of counsel. That allowed Brown, who trained as a paralegal, to begin a new life with his wife and two children in Connecticut, where he gave back to the community. But Brown's world came crashing in on Christmas Eve 2024, when the Appellate Division reinstated the conviction on a legal technicality — meaning he would have to serve the remainder of the 40 years and be returned to prison for another 41 years. Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark & Governer Kathy Hochul have the power to do what's right. At the very least they can resentence Andre to time served and allow him to be with his family. Let's make sure our support for Andre is heard coast to coast.Links to Crime & Entertainment Like us on Facebook - / crimeandentertainment Follow us on IG - / crimenentertainment Listen on Spotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/4T67Bs5... Social-Media Hoax Frames Innocent Man, Sean Bailey for Indiana Murder; Real Suspect Caught After DNA Break Imagine getting hauled off to jail for a murder you didn't commit—because someone made up fake Facebook accounts and sent videos of a dead body… pretending to be you. That's exactly what happened to Shawn Bailey, a 33-year-old man from Louisville who spent nearly 10 days locked up for a brutal killing in Indiana that he had nothing to do with. According to investigators, Bailey was set up in one of the most twisted, tech-savvy frame jobs we've seen in a while. It started on April 15, when deputies in Hanover, Indiana—just across the river from Louisville—were called to check on 35-year-old Wilma Gayle Robertson. What they found was horrific: Robertson was dead inside her home on Hickory Drive, stabbed in the back. Hours later, Bailey was arrested for her murder. On the surface, it looked like an open-and-shut case. There was allegedly a confession. There was video evidence—a clip sent through Facebook showing Robertson's lifeless body on the floor, with Chris Brown's “Stutter” playing in the background. One message attached to it taunted: “Tell her baby daddy he doesn't have to worry about her anymore… I did him a solid favor.” Chilling stuff. And the Facebook account? It had Shawn Bailey's name on it. Slam dunk, right? Wrong. As detectives kept digging, the cracks in the story widened. The DNA from the crime scene didn't match Bailey. Not even close. And the digital trail? It didn't point to him at all. Instead, the fake accounts, the video, the entire setup led back to Nigel Thomas, a 34-year-old aspiring rapper from Oxford, Ohio, who goes by the stage name “Nati Bang.” According to Jefferson County prosecutors, Thomas not only stabbed Wilma Robertson but then orchestrated an elaborate scheme to make it look like Bailey did it—going so far as to create multiple bogus Facebook profiles, fabricate a confession, and even send out the murder video under Bailey's name. Prosecutor David Sutter didn't mince words. He said Thomas “engaged in an elaborate plan to frame Shawn Bailey,” and praised law enforcement from Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio for tearing that web of lies apart. On Friday, Thomas was arrested in Ohio. Bailey's charges were dropped, and he was finally released. No word yet on why Thomas targeted Robertson, or what his connection to her even was—but prosecutors say those details are coming. Meanwhile, Wilma Robertson—remembered for her kind heart and uplifting social media presence—leaves behind two children. She worked as a certified nursing assistant. Her life was real. Her death was senseless. And the attempt to twist it into a clout-chasing stunt for someone else's gain? Unforgivable. The justice system got it right—eventually. But you have to ask: how many other “airtight cases” are really just one fake profile away from falling apart? Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The story of Tariq Maqbool is one that had not been told in over 20 years. A man who was found guilty of a brutal double homicide in 2002—of Joong Ahn, 45, and his nephew, Mun Ahn, 28—on the night of November 1. On April 27, 2005, he was found guilty and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole.During his time of incarceration, he decided to keep to himself and would not allow anyone to tell his story or take advantage of his situation for the sake of 'entertainment.' That's why, when I reached out to him, I was honoured that he agreed to allow me the opportunity to help tell his story.Since then, many people have started taking notice of his story and taking an interest in the case. A couple of months ago, I received an email from a professor at a university who told me that some of her students would be looking at his case this semester, working out if there was a way in which they might be able to help him.A couple of weeks ago those students stood in front of a panel of experts in the fight for clemency to give their oral arguments for Tariqs freedom.Join the One Minute Remaining Jury via Appl + HERE and get OMR early and ad free for as little as $1.69 a week!Become a Jury member on Patreon and find us on Facebook here.Buy a coffe for a member of the British armed police force here Hosted on Acast. When 25-year-old Tim Evans was hanged for killing his wife and 14-month-old daughter in 1949, few outside of his family questioned whether justice had been done. After all, Evans had at one point confessed to the crimes. But during his trial he recanted, saying that a neighbor had killed his 20-year-old wife Beryl during a botched abortion attempt. It seemed a ludicrous attempt at diversion -- until that same neighbor was himself revealed to be a serial killer just three years later. The questions sparked by the case helped fuel a movement to halt the death penalty in Britain. The United States has reached a constitutional crisis that could damage or destroy our democracy for years to come. Fox News made the choice to cheerlead for the erosion of the rule of law by conflating Ábrego García's case with a violent rape and murder even though Ábrego García has never been convicted of any crime. Trump even discussed sending “home grown criminals” or U.S. citizens, to the same draconian prison that some have compared to Nazi concentration camps. This is a public episode. Today, Hunter spoke with journalist Piper French about the wrongful conviction of Jimmie “Chris” Duncan. In 1998, Duncan was convicted of murdering his girlfriend's 23-month-old daughter. Originally, Duncan was charged with negligent homicide as it appeared his story, that he stepped away for a few minutes while the child took a bath and then she fell and drowned, was accurate. However, the notorious peddler of the junk science bite mark “evidence,” Dr. Michael West, conducted a dubious autopsy where he pressed a mould of Duncan's teeth into the body of the girl. With this dubious autopsy and the help of a jail house snitch, the state convicted Duncan of capital murder. Since then, Duncan has been fighting to prove his innocence, but with Governor Jeff Landry's drive to increase the number of executions in the Louisiana, Duncan might never get the chance. The very busy actress, Laila Robins, was recently seen in Ryan Murphy's anthology series, American Horror Stories. She also has a recurring role as Colonel Grace Mallory on the hugely popular Amazon series, The Boys. Laila starred opposite Amanda Seyfried in the Apple+ limited series, The Crowded Room and opposite Joshua Jackson and Alec Baldwin in the Hulu limited series, Dr. Death. She also recurred memorably as Katarina Rostova on the hit NBC series The Blacklist, and she had a major arc playing Pamela Milton on the final season of AMC's The Walking Dead. Among, Laila's many film appearances are: Eye in the Sky, Side Effects, Blumenthal, Concussion, The Good Shepherd, An Innocent Man, Welcome Home Roxy Carmichael, True Crime, and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. You may have also seen her in such TV series as: The Handmaid's Tale, Homeland, Deception, 30 Rock, So Help Me Todd, Bull, Person of Interest, Blue Bloods, Damages, In Treatment, The Sopranos, Law and Order, and the series lead in Gabriel's Fire opposite the late, legendary James Earl Jones. Laila's work on Broadway includes Heartbreak House, the Tony-nominated play Frozen, and The Real Thing, as well as Off-Broadway in: the quartet of Richard Nelson's Apple Family plays. She's also appeared around the U.S. in numerous stage performances in shows such as: The Lady from Dubuque, Antony and Cleopatra, A Midsummer's Night's Dream, Sore Throats, Tiny Alice, Mrs. Klein, The Merchant of Venice, and many productions at The Guthrie in her hometown of St. Paul/Minneapolis, including Hedda Gabler and The Lion in Winter. Over the years, I've enjoyed quite a few of Laila's on-screen performances in shows of which I'm a big fan, including everything she did in The Walking Dead, Homeland, The Blacklist and The Boys. Laila never hits a false note even when the stories in which she's acting brilliantly defy reality.Of note: Laila also happens to be married to a favorite StoryBeat guest, and someone to whom I owe a great debt of gratitude, the phenomenal actor and singer, Robert Cuccioli, who originated the roles of Henry Jekyll and Edward Hyde in the musical I created with Frank Wildhorn, Jekyll & Hyde.

A little past midnight on July 30, 1945, the USS Indianapolis, a US Navy cruiser, had just delivered the uranium that would be used in the first nuclear bomb dropped on Japan, and was returning to the Philippines when it was struck by a Japanese torpedo. The ship was badly damaged in the attack and within ten minutes it rolled onto its side, dumping 890 crewmen into the pitch-black ocean and dragging the remaining 300 down with the ship. Those who survived the torpedo strike did what they could to grab supplies before abandoning ship, but there were very few life boats or life jackets, so many of the sailors had to float in the water or cling to the few rafts they did manage to take before jumping from the boat. To make matters worse, their mission had been highly confidential and no one in the Navy knew where the Indianapolis was, much less that it had sank. The surviving crew thought things were about as bad as they could get, then the sharks began showing up.Thank you to the Incredible Dave White of Bring Me the Axe Podcast for research and Writing support!ReferencesAssociated Press. 1945. At 19 years old, Tyree Wallace was sentenced to life in prison for the 1997 killing of a Point Breeze deli owner. Ever since, he argued that he was innocent. Finally in November – with help from lawyer/musician David Perry, who wrote a song declaring Tyree's innocence – Wallace was released from prison. We spoke to Wallace, who is now CEO of the nonprofit Systemic Reformative Change, and David Perry, from the law firm Blank Rome and the band Athensville, 70 days after Wallace was released. For more on Tyree's case, check out these news stories: Tyree Wallace is home. What did it cost him — and us? He was in prison 26 years for a murder he says he didn't commit. Federal courts have found a man's videotaped confession in the 1984 death of an Ada convenience store clerk to be almost entirely false but the state of Oklahoma is still fighting in court over whether it can be used against him in a new trial. The confession is one of the few remaining pieces of evidence the state has against Karl Fontenot in the abduction and killing of Donna Denise Haraway. Fontenot, 60, and Tommy Ward, 64, were twice-convicted of the kidnapping and murder of Haraway, who went missing from McAnally's convenience store in Ada on April 28, 1984. The two men were arrested for the crime in months later after both allegedly confessed to investigators that they had kidnapped, raped and murdered Haraway. The case was the subject of the 2006 John Grisham book and a popular 2018 Netflix documentary The Innocent Man.In their Dec. 20, 2024 briefing to the state appeals court, Fontenot's attorneys pointed out that more than two and a half years have passed since the state's attempt to have the federal appeals court's decision overturned was denied, opening the door to refiling charges against Fontenot.“Now, 926 days later, the State has not retried Mr. Fontenot, or set a trial date for Mr. Fontenot, or uncovered any new evidence that implicates Mr. Fontenot in the abduction of Denise Haraway,” the brief states. “In fact, the State of Oklahoma has stipulated to the absence of any new evidence on February 23, 2024, and admitted that the loss of evidence admitted at the previous trial, and the unavailability of many witnesses has compromised both side's ability to move forward with the case.”Today on the podcast we're joined by Frontier reporter Clifton Adcock, to update us on the cases against Fontenot and Ward. This is Listen Frontier, a podcast exploring the investigative journalism of the Frontier and featuring conversations with those on the frontlines of Oklahoma's most important stories. We all know that the most important event ever in human history is the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Messiah, Yeshua, Jesus of Nazareth. But in order for him to rise from the dead, first, he needed to go to the cross. He had to be crucified, and we're going to see that that crucifixion was an act of humiliation and shame and disgrace. In 2001, Marcellus Williams was sentenced to death for the 1998 murder of reporter Felecia Gayle. After over two decades on Missouri's death row, he was executed by lethal injection on September 24, 2024. As time passed, doubts about his guilt grew. Marcellus's defence team, the victim's family, and even some jurors questioned his conviction. Despite this, the governor denied clemency, and the Supreme Court did not intervene. One of the few people to interview Marcellus during his time on death row was Jack Laurence, a producer and podcast host, who believes the case against him was flawed. Laurence, like many others, feels the decision to execute Marcellus was a tragic mistake. You can listen to Jack's interview with Marcellus Williams on his podcast One Minute Remaining here. "I'd like to thank my family for loving me and taking care of me. And the rest of the world can kiss my ass.”After the murder nun in Amarillo, Texas, police are convinced they found their killer. Johnny Frank Garrett was tried, sentenced, and executed for the murder of Sister Tadea Benz, but this case is not as straightforward as it seems. From the misconduct of a medical examiner, calls for clemency from Pope John Paul II, omitted evidence, and a second murder that police knew was tied to Sister Tadea's, this is a case where nothing is as it seems. The murders of two women were a rabbit hole that concluded with the realization that Johnny Frank Garrett was executed for a crime he probably didn't commit. This is the story that inspired a movie and three people who were victims of a killer and the justice system.Connect with us on Social Media! You can find us at:Instagram: @bookofthedeadpodX: @bkofthedeadpodFacebook: The Book of the Dead PodcastTikTok: BookofthedeadpodOr visit our website at www.botdpod.comActual Innocence: Johnny Frank Garrett and Bubbles The Clairvoyant. Texas Wants to Kill Innocent Man, While Meat Industry Wants to Kill You Karel Cast 24-147 A Texas man is scheduled to be executed for the 2002 murder of his child..from shaken baby syndrome. The problem? Experts have now conceded that that diagnosis isn't reliable; in fact, many cases have been overturned because we now know that the syndrome isn't just caused by abuse but can have bacteriological and other biological components to it making the person completely innocent. So why won't they stop it? It's Texas. Listeria is running amok in pre-packaged chicken, and deli meats. Hundreds of millions of pounds of meat is being recalled. And yet, the nation refuses to go Vegan. We know how much damage meat does to the body; we know the next pandemic will probably come from meat or dairy...but...we line up to eat it. Death Wish 2024. It's the weekend. Does this even have any meaning any more? Do you recreate? Or do you do all the things you don't have time to do during the week because you're too exhausted. In 1959, Robert Raymond Cook was accused of murdering his father, stepmother, and five siblings in Stettler, Alberta. The bodies were found hidden in a grease pit, and Cook, known for his criminal history, was arrested after attempting to flee. Despite maintaining his innocence and a lack of clear motive, Cook was convicted twice and eventually hanged in 1960. To this day, some believe the wrong man was executed, and questions about the case linger in the minds of many. On The Patrick Madrid Show, you'll hear from Kaine, a listener who reached out from a place most of us can't even imagine—county jail. Kaine's story is one of struggle, redemption, and the surprising ways God works in our lives, even in the darkest corners. Kaine, who's currently awaiting trial for a crime he says he didn't commit, opened up about the difficult journey that led him to this point. Life hasn't been easy for him—born prematurely to a mother addicted to cocaine, Kaine was eventually convicted of a crime he didn't do, and that shadow has followed him for decades. It's led him down paths of depression, substance abuse, and broken relationships. But here's where the story takes a turn. While sitting in his jail cell, Kaine stumbled upon Relevant Radio. And something incredible happened—he found hope. Listening to Patrick Madrid and Cyrus reminded him of who he used to be, a proud altar boy ringing the bells at Mass, filled with Catholic pride. That spark of faith was reignited, and for the first time in a long time, Kaine felt like God had a plan for him again. Patrick assured him that he's not alone—God is right there with him, even in his cell. He also connected him with some great resources, like the St. Dismas Guild, a prison ministry, and the Cenacolo Community, which helps people struggling with addiction. Kaine's story is such a powerful reminder that God can reach us anywhere, even in the most unlikely places. For Kaine, Relevant Radio has become more than just something to listen to—it's a lifeline that brought him back to the faith that once gave him so much joy. So, let's keep Kaine in our prayers. His journey is still unfolding, but his courage to share it with us is already inspiring.
