Growing up, I had amazing images of Shaun Tomson, surfing in Hawaii, gracing my walls. He also had a place on the walls of most everyone I know, and surely on the walls of anyone that surfed in the 70's, 80's and 90's. Shaun surfed the waves and surfed the way we all dreamed of. Shaun Tomson is a class act. While becoming a Pipe Master in 1975 and a 1977 World Surfing Champion; and winning 19 professional surf contests over a 20 year pro surfing career; Shaun helped design and define the golden era of professional surfing with an innovative style that inspired generations. But his story doesn't stop at world titles and his incredible surfing career… that's just the first chapter. Shaun has also built successful businesses, become a passionate and celebrated environmental advocate, written bestselling books and an incredible movie; and has emerged as one of the world's most inspiring keynote speakers. After experiencing the heartbreaking loss, Shaun found a way to transform unimaginable grief into a powerful message about resilience, purpose, and living with intention. His “Code” has since inspired everyone, internationally, from Fortune 500 executives and elite athletes to students and everyday people looking to live more meaningful and empowered lives. Whether he's talking story about epic surf sessions, sharing life lessons, inspiring or challenging people to become their best selves, Shaun brings passion, purpose and power to everything he does. What an incredible opportunity for me to sit down and talk with one of my all-time idols… for way more reasons than just his surfing; but surfing is where it all started and what inspired generations. 0:00 – Introducing Shaun Tomson & the "Pinch Me" Moment 5:00 – Family History: War, Persecution & Escape to South Africa 10:00 – His Father's Shark Attack and a Surfing Family Is Born 17:00 – Finding Flow: Rhythm, Instinct & a New Style 30:00 – Surfing Through Apartheid and Crossing the Color Line 38:00 – His Father's Code: Grace, Sportsmanship & Never Complaining 45:00 – 1976: The Birth of Professional Surfing 63:00 – Losing Matthew and Finishing "The Code" 67:00 – Code 12: Turning the Code Into a Framework for Kids 107:00 – Rebuilding a Values-Driven Brand & Where to Find Him

Tamu Thomas joins Claire for a rich, unhurried conversation about what it actually means to build a sustainable, well-rested life and business. They explore toxic productivity, the cost of following rules that were never designed for women, and why your nervous system is not a mindset problem to fix. Substack's evolution from cosy oasis to noisy feed weaves through the second half, along with a genuinely beautiful reframe about content timing and showing up on your own terms. This one will resonate deeply with those of you feeling into soulful work, anyone neurodivergent and give you more focus to be burnout-aware.A former social worker with16 years experience, Tamu blends the science of human safety, connection and behavior change to translate complex human dynamics into clear, actionable leadership strategy. Her approach centres nervous system safety, belonging and joy as essential foundations for sustainable high performance. You can connect with her on her popular instagram channel here;https://www.instagram.com/tamu.thomasand on linkedin toohttps://www.linkedin.com/in/tamuthomas/Favourite Quotes On attention as currency:“You're already paying me something with your time, with your energy, with your attention. And I cherish that. We can make money again. We can't get our energy back.”On not chasing perfection before starting:“People want to have the exact formula before they do something, which means they spend a lot of time ideating, thinking, procrastinating, trying to be a perfectionist, and it doesn't give them the real world data. So I treat it as a science experiment.”On building for abundance not scarcity:“We need to get out of this intensity addiction, scarcity mindset where we actually build a business for scarcity rather than abundance.”On time scarcity:“The root of it is always a feeling of not enoughness. So if I approach time in a way where I'm working with time abundantly, it reduces that sense of not enoughness.”On the nervous system:“We don't get to escape being human. We cannot outsmart our biology. Even the most guruified guru who does stadiums of self-help talks doesn't get to escape being human.”On content timing: “Unless you are talking about a perishable good, there's no expiry date. As long as you are in integrity with yourself, you are speaking in alignment with your values, it's always going to be trending.”On sustainable business:“It's important that you create a business that doesn't break if you take a break.”On Substack as sacred writing space:“Writing is a place where I go and seek solace. It's a place I cherish. And so putting pressure on that takes away from the beauty.”On breaking invisible rules:“Following the rules often means denying our inner knowing, our intuition, denying what we know is best for us so that we can look good, because we've been taught it's okay for us to feel bad, but it's not okay for us to look bad.”Watch our conversation here…We'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.✨ This is a public episode. Connect with the Investor Mama Tribe Janine Mix is a Christian entrepreneur, author, speaker, and investor who turned her financial life around from being $120,000 in debt to becoming a multimillionaire. After years of frustration with conventional financial advice focused on strict budgeting and cutting expenses, Janine finally experienced a breakthrough by unlearning these limiting approaches and transforming her relationship with money. This pivotal shift empowered her to take bold, strategic actions that led to complete financial freedom by age 33. Janine believes that more wealth in the hands of women can change the world and is passionate about helping women get out of their own way and break financial barriers and build generational wealth. Janine hosts the Permission to Prosper podcast, where she shares insights on financial empowerment and wealth-building strategies. Her best-selling book, Buy The Damn Coffee, is a call to break free from cycles of blame, shame, and restrictive money habits, empowering readers to embrace a mindset that fosters confidence, growth, and impact for their families and communities. Key Takeaways: 1. Heal Your Money Story Before You Build Wealth Your relationship with money — what you heard, learned, and experienced growing up — is what’s actually blocking you. Until you identify and rewrite those beliefs, no strategy will stick. Janine’s “MIX Shift Framework”: find the message, ask if it’s true, cross it out, and replace it with a new one. 2. There’s No One-Size-Fits-All Real Estate Strategy — Start with Your Goal Airbnb, flipping, house hacking, single-family rentals — they all work. The key is knowing why you’re investing and what you want your life to look like. You only need 3–5 semi-free-and-clear properties to retire. Pick one strategy, start, and give yourself permission to pivot. 3. Not All Debt Is Bad — Learn to Use Leverage Consumer debt takes your money; leveraged debt makes you money. Real estate’s real power isn’t just cash flow — it’s depreciation, tax benefits, equity lines of credit, and using other people’s money (OPM) to grow. Net worth on paper means nothing; cash flow is what matters. 4. Focus on Income, Not the $5 Latte Cutting small expenses won’t change your life — growing your income will. “Buy the Damn Coffee” is a movement away from guilt and scarcity thinking. Temporary sacrifice is okay to course-correct, but the real wealth shift happens when you move from restricting to building. More money in the hands of women changes the world. Welcome back to another episode of the Hangin' with the AD Podcast.Today's conversation is one we've been looking forward to for quite some time. Joining us is Nathan Whitaker — a New York Times bestselling author, keynote speaker, and Super Bowl champion. Many of you know his work alongside legendary NFL coach Tony Dungy, where together they've shared powerful lessons on leadership, faith, and what it truly means to live and lead with purpose.Nathan has had a front-row seat to some of the most respected leaders in professional sports, learning from — and writing about — individuals who don't just chase success, but define it differently. Leaders who are, in every sense of the word, uncommon. We've had the opportunity to connect most recently with Nathan through the NIAAA AD Roundtable and as well as at the NADC in Tampa, where his message on leadership, alignment, and intentional connection left a lasting impression on athletic leaders from across the country. In this episode, we dive into what it really means to pursue uncommon success, how great leaders build alignment within their teams, and why something as simple — yet often overlooked — as making genuine connections can transform your leadership impact. We also explore the importance of guarding your mindset, developing future leaders, and finding your own authentic leadership voice rather than trying to replicate someone else's. So whether you're leading a program, a department, or simply looking to grow in your influence, this is a conversation that will challenge and inspire you. Let's settle in…and get to know…Nathan Whitaker.

Ever think of packing up and leaving? Let's face it, many of us have. With all the crazy happening in our country, from gun violence to a lack of affordable housing and healthcare, not to mention an education system that has been sub par, many have dreamed of packing up the kids and getting out of dodge. And that's just what our guest did. Meet David Schnurman, successful entrepreneur and author, "Eleven Suitcases: How Moving Abroad Changed A Family Forever," who says moving was the best thing he and his family ever did. Overwhelmed by the grind of raising three young kids in NY, David, the founder and CEO of Lawline, and his wife, Kelli, made a decision in 2019 while sitting at their kitchen table to pack up and move to Barcelona. What followed was a life of unplanned adventure, from treks in Morocco to mountain escapes in Spain. However, there were multiple challenges, like the lockdown, among others. But what unfolded changed their family forever - in unexpected ways. Now back in the States with his family and their eleven suitcases, David talks about their experiences and how it transformed them. Please find my full interview with #DavidSchnurman on all video and audio platforms of #DeborahKobyltLIVE. @davidschnurman #elevensuitcases #author #DavidSchnurman

Welcome back to Behind Greatness. We had loads of fun in this conversation. Robert Wagonner joins us from his home in the Midwest. He is a veteran lucid dreamer, having taught himself how to do it in the '70s and never looked back. Robert elaborates on the lucid state as being an educational system. He discussed "buzzing" while having an out of body experience as a young boy, his brother's book and the Monroe Institute, flying through his neighborhood, house cats and mountain lions. We hear about the mysterious "N4" (144), the mentally mediated realm, following the creativity and the blue light. We explore the magic of goofiness, fear, becoming an electron, the search for inherent evil, Daoist societies, "going the distance" and the voluntary death experience. What a trip. "Doubt is gravity". This Final Cut Premiere presents the full, uncut conversation between Tom Dutta and Canadian Paralympian and world champion rower Victoria Nolan. This is the first time this conversation is being released as an audio podcast. Victoria's journey began with a diagnosis of Retinitis Pigmentosa at 18. The slow loss of sight reshaped her personal and professional life and created moments of fear, doubt, and isolation. She was told she had no future as a teacher and that blindness would define her possibilities. Instead, she discovered rowing, and everything changed. She rose from fear to world-class competition, breaking a world record, earning eight international medals, and becoming one of Canada's most inspiring voices on courage and belonging. Victoria is now a national leader, speaker, and advocate. Her story blends lived experience, high-performance sport, and a deep commitment to helping others navigate change and adversity. This uncut episode explores • the emotional landscape of losing sight • how adversity became a doorway to possibility • rowing as a place of healing and empowerment • motherhood and identity during vision loss • the culture of elite sport and vulnerable leadership • systemic barriers and invisible societal expectations • the global conversation on blindness and hope • the next chapter Victoria has yet to write This Final Cut is exactly as the conversation occurred, raw, real, and technically mastered only for audio clarity. #QuietWarriorShow #TomDutta #VictoriaNolan #BeyondVision #Resilience #Leadership #Courage #Paralympics #BlindnessAwareness #UncutConversation #HumanSpirit
