Brian Auger honestly states in this podcast, “Being a professional musician and making a living at it wasn't planned, it just happened.” British Keyboard artist Brian Auger has played with the best of the best - Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Sonny Boy Williamson, Rod Stewart, Eric Burdon, John McLaughlin , Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Spencer Davis just to name a few. His groups were The Trinity with Julie Driscoll and the Oblivion Express as well as playing in many sessions with major artists. In this insightful podcast Brian takes us from being bombed by Hitler's troops as a young boy in the streets of London to his becoming a world class musician specializing in the Hammond B3 organ. Brian sums up his approach to playing music with the following quote: “I'm never dissatisfied with the reaction to albums because there are certain albums that I made in the ‘70s and the ‘60s that sold poor and people want them. It seems to pick up different generations as it goes along. I don't worry about that. I just worry that the tracks that we would put, have a meaning to them, they mean something to me. Each album is like a page in my musical diary: Where I am musically at that time. I am not looking to write something for any kind of need in the marketplace or anything like that. I am just trying to make the best music that I can make and put it out there.”

She's found her life turned upside down as she lived through 14 separate bouts with cancer, a near-death car crash, a brain bleed that left her speechless and nearly immobile. Ravaged by the painful side effects of DES (Diethylstilbestrol) - an experimental drug intended to save her life she kept going. Her body was held together by bolts, screws, titanium plates, and 25-pound mono-filament fishing line. Now ass infertility issues, adoption, and unexpected death of her daughter and unborn granddaughter, she kept going forward. Then her rock, her best friend, her husband Bill died of cancer. Obstacles and adversity were common to Care Tuk as she turned challenges into opportunities and difficulties into adventures. Doing it with God's help is the cornerstone of her walk in faith. Bridging past and present, the grit of industry and the calloused hard work of a rural man,“ Closer to My Home” champions Farner's multi-faceted artistry. “The songs on the Closer to My Home are honest and from my heart,” Farner said. “The collaboration with Jim (Peterik) and Mark (Slaughter) came from a place of trust and that makes the whole experience so much more rewarding as songwriters. The audience can feel that and these songs reflect those very human moments that you can't find creating a song from a computer.” ‘Closer to My Home' comes from the idea that love is at the heart of all that I do, and music is my home.” As one of the founding members, lead singer, lead guitarist, and wrote more than 90% of the Grand Funk music catalog, Farner has always been known as the energetic driving force on stage, the engine that pulled the original Grand Funk Railroad to the top. ‘Anymore' is the latest single released, Here is one passage: “In the beginning it was me and my band It's sad to say, that we don't play together anymore It's not the quantity, it's the honesty my friends The story ends, and I'm not angry with ‘em anymore.” “Love keep on shinnin', shinnin' on me.” Markfarner.com – to download the “Closer to my home” album and the single, “Anymore.” Also you can learn more about Mark's upcoming tour dates.
Sometimes things are not funny. I get it. Sometimes you don't just have to laugh. Sometimes I keep my funny thoughts in my thinking. When people aren't ready to laugh the last thing they need is for anyone to force what they think is a funny on them. How do you know when to do this? It begins with this. YOU HAVE TO KNOW THEM. Even then it can back-fire. So as the old saying goes, “Know you audience.” This podcast will show how to bring humor and laughter to get through grief. Jim remembers playing Red River Valley, She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain. They were in the book that came with the guitar, not exactly the rock and roll he envisioned, but it was his start. Today, 2025, 69 years later Jim has created an elaborate music career, which has been his sole income for his professional life. We invite you to visit jimstringer.com to learn more about of his illustrious musical life – that is still going.

Mike Long sat with James Gregory to write his life story, “A Bushel of Beans and a Peck of Tomatoes.” Mike joins the YJHTL podcast to tell us more about James Gregory, the man who is beloved by millions. James was one of the most successful nightclub and theater comedians in America and it started out a long way from the stage, in the tiny farming community of Lithonia, Georgia. Before he became “The Funniest Man in America,” James was a successful salesman of everything from encyclopedias to log homes. His philosophy: take care of yourself so nobody has to take care of you. When he started over as a comedian, this commitment to hard work and honest dealing would be the key to his “business” of comedy. James loves working people—because that's what he is, too. Whether it's entertaining our troops in the Persian Gulf after 9/11, working the road with greats like Steven Wright and Jay Leno, or facing a heart-stopping emergency that sent him into a coma, James has squeezed a dozen lifetimes into a half-century of comedy. This book is the best James Gregory story yet—as only he can tell it. “A Bushel of Beans and a Peck of Tomatoes.” get this the book. If you love James Gregory, you'll love him even more after reading his life story.
Nothing gets the crowd going at K-State basketball games this season more than Gerry Ince, 83, and Janice Edwards, 84. The two friends are longtime K-State fans who had gone to basketball and football games with their husbands since the '80s. Gerry was the first who got into dancing along with the timeout music. The first time they went to a basketball game this season Janice had just sat down, and Gerry told her stand-up and cheer. When the time out music comes on Gerry grabs Janice and they start dancing. “The first time, we heard a really loud roar,” Edwards said. “We looked up, and I said, ‘Oh my god, Gerry, we're on TV! We're on the jumbotron.'”

Born in Hiawatha, Kansas, in 1951 as Stephen Bradley Miller, after graduating from high school there in 1969 he attended Kansas State University, Washburn University, and the University of Missouri, graduating with the BA degree in philosophy from Washburn and a Bachelor of Journalism degree from Missouri. Using the byline Bradley Miller, Sage spent the greater part of his years following college as a writer and editor. For five years in the 1980s he wrote daily editorials and a twice-weekly bylined general-interest column for the Dallas Morning News. Most of his freelance essays have appeared in the Sunday Outlook section of the Washington Post and others in the Boston Globe, Los Angeles Times, Chicago Sun-Times, The American Scholar, Freethought Today, Counterpunch and other publications from coast to coast. A cultural critic and satirist, Sage is a libertarian lefty in politics, and since moving to Manhattan in 1998 has written many columns for The Manhattan Mercury, as he's doing now. The name “The Fabulous Sage” came when he began signing up on karaoke lists as The Fabulous Sage. Then an article on karaoke by the Kansas State Collegian quoted a DJ as follows: “All you have to do is say ‘The Fabulous Sage' and people go nuts.” He has stated, “He'd like that on his tombstone.) “Sage” was also the name of a newsletter he did during football seasons from 1998 through 2006. It consisted of a general-interest essay, spiced with humor, as well as picks against the spread on Big 12 football games. I originally called it “The Big 12 Sage” but soon changed it to The Fabulous Sage to go along with my karaoke persona and he has gone by Sage Miller since then.
