Fear keeps the most brilliant people from following their passions in life. But life is too short to live with regret. Imagine the possibilities if you finally changed your environment and stepped outside your comfort zone. I had the privilege of chatting with my mentor, Henry J. Evans, founder of Get Clear Marketing and the leader of an inspiring mastermind. He's enjoyed many triumphs in commercial real estate, high tech, marketing, consulting, and software. At face value, his successful life seems idyllic, without a care in the world. But countless trials and tribulations—including the passing of his sister-in-law, losing a huge consulting client, racking up $142,000 in credit card debt, and draining his wife's 401(k)—shaped his journey. Here's why Henry wants you to start small, celebrate progress, and go analog as you do the thing. In this episode, Henry discloses how he follows these key points of the Do The Thing Formula: Accountability Surround yourself with people who want the best for you Change your environment Future pacing Learn more about Henry at www.getclearmarketing.com

"Without the luxury of planning, preparing and practicing, pressure can be the enemy of success. " Henry J. Evans joins Habits2Goals this week for an insightful discussion of a multi-faceted topic: how to deal with pressure. No one gets out of dealing with pressure. We all experience pressure, whether it's related to family, relationships, health, job, or finances. It starts early and never lets up; there's no escaping pressure. Some "experts" say pressure is the enemy of success. Yet great success comes from facing down pressure and coming out ahead. Like habit, pressure is neither good nor bad. It's a force that you can make work for you or let work against you. Growth doesn't happen in your comfort zone. It comes from pressure, challenges, and deadlines. Listen in to learn the formula for dealing with pressure and maintaining balance, understanding the three P's of handling pressure, and why habit is a critical tool for turning pressure into growth. Enjoy the episode! For more on pressure, check out Martin Grunburg's The Pressure Paradox. "Are you willing to jump through the painful practice 'hoop' of conscious competence to truly become your best?" Henry J. Evans joins Habits2Goals this week to discuss an important topic in every aspect of life, including habit development: the four phases of learning. To recap, the phases are: Unconscious incompetence. (You don't know what you don't know. ) Conscious incompetence. (You know you're bad.) Conscious competence. (You know you're kind of good, but it's painful and it hurts; think practice.) Unconscious competence. (You're automatic, thanks to thousands upon thousands of hours. "In the zone.") Since learning skills and developing habits are closely tied, these same phases of learning apply to habit development and goal achievement. It takes a process of awareness, consciousness, practice, and effort to create an automatic positive habit that can help you reach your goals. Listen in to hear more why there's no getting around the hours of effort and hard work it takes to reach unconscious competence, and how the PARR method for habit development: Plan, Act, Record & Reasses builds habit strength, a requirement for both habit and skill development. "If Artificial Intelligence (AI) is goal-directed behavior, then setting meaningful and worthwhile goals is a true sign of real intelligence." Henry J. Evans joins Habits2Goals to pick up where last week's episode, Goal-Setting 101, left off, continuing our discussion of the massive topic of goal-setting. Last week we discussed the what, why, and how of goal-setting, among other things learning why SMART goals aren't smart, how to become the best version yourself that you can imagine, how to stay motivated, and how habits and tracking are game-changers when you're creating your own vision of yourself. This week, we look at the importance of setting goals, managing the inevitable setbacks that come with goal setting, how accountability plays a role, and why tracking habits is the magic secret sauce in goal achievement. Listen in to hear more on why goal-directed behavior is the very definition of intelligence, why goals are mostly about your capacity to set the goal and go after it, how tracking is key, and much more. "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.” ~Earl Nightingale Today's episode brings back legendary former co-host Henry J. Evans—a dynamic marketing expert, best-selling author, speaker, and consultant—for an important introduction to goal-setting. Habits2Goals exists to help listeners learn to set and achieve goals, supported by habits, and live life to their full potential. But it's important to take it back to the beginning for a refresher on just HOW to set goals in the first place—and why it's so critical. Goals can be as broad as your overall life purpose or as minute as what you're doing right now, today, and setting goals requires an understanding of your own values. The first step, as MG calls it, is "beginning with the end in mind." Project yourself 5, 10, 20 years down the road. Who is that person? What habits do they have? Are you proud to be this person? What do you want to be like and how do you want to be? Then you can go about building that person from the ground up. Next comes finding your WHY—tapping into that burning desire for your goal's fulfillment. When you tie your goal to your biggest desire—your why—you can find the strength to power through when the inevitable obstacles occur. Without enough desire or a big enough why, any excuse is enough to quit. Listen in to hear the rest of the Goal-Setting 101 steps and learn why SMART goals aren't' smart, how to become the best version yourself that you can imagine, how to stay motivated, and how habits and tracking are game-changers when you're creating your own vision of yourself. "Decide what you want to be -- and go be it!" ~Tequila Truck Habits2Goals welcomes back former co-host Henry J. Evans, a dynamic marketing expert, best-selling author, speaker and consultant on accountability, strategy execution and emotionally intelligent leadership. Henry discusses his reaffirmed belief in the PARR methodology and how important it is to track and measure your behavior. "That which is tracked and measured is improved!" MG shares his most recent behavior-tracking journey, "The Path to 178!" where he vowed to reduce his body fat to lower levels than when he was 38 years old. Tracking, both hosts, explain, is the ironic path to freedom! Recall: "discipline = freedom." Henry shares that a trusted tracking system lets you "offload" these things from your mind, helping you truly be in the present. Save the mind for big thinking! The Big Idea discussed in this episode springs from both meditation and tequila: A tequila truck sign that read, "Decide what you want to be and go be it!" This unlikely source of wisdom inspires a deeper insight into behavior and tracking: What is stopping you from becoming the person you really want to be? More importantly, WHO do you want to be and WHERE do you want to go? And what matters more: the WHO or the WHERE? Listen in to hear a fascinating discussion about how DECIDING is the key to going where you want to go and being who you want to be -- and how it all circles back around to forming those positive behaviors / habits that support your goals! “You can change your destiny if you really understand marketing”.” ~Henry Evans A reintroduction of our favorite co-host is in order since there have been many new subscribers and listeners between seasons. While Henry was interviewed in depth in Season II, we take some time in this short interview to chat with Henry about his expertise (marketing) and background as well as book and some thoughts on business and money! Henry bounced around quite a bit as a kid, as his family moved about he ended up going to three different high schools! He attributes that experience to his outgoing personality. As a professional marketer, Henry recounts many of the key lessons learned (and those he wrote about in his book, "The Hour a Day Entrepreneur") and how he was able to make the leap from the corporate world to full-time entrepreneur. Henry drops a nugget at the end of the show, something Martin hadn't heard before! Check out this fun and powerful episode!
