It's a year end, clocked out episode with Burke joining the show for holiday traditions, Christmas movie rotations, and why Christmas Vacation hits different the older you get. Then it's straight into the biggest geek headlines: the Avengers: Doomsday chatter around Steve Rogers, Christopher Nolan taking on The Odyssey (and why it feels built for IMAX), and the latest Superman casting talk with Lars Ettinger reportedly stepping in as Brainiac. The back half is a full, spoiler heavy review of Avatar: Fire and Ashes, covering the new faction dynamics, how the family story lands this time, Varang's presence as a villain, Quaritch's shifting loyalties, and what the ending sets up for what's next. Timestamps and Topics 00:00:00 Intro and holiday vibe check with Burke 00:00:51 Christmas decorating habits, movie rotation, and Vacation franchise talk 00:03:49 Avengers: Doomsday discussion and the Steve Rogers reaction 00:08:59 Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey trailer breakdown and IMAX hype 00:14:04 Superman talk, Lars Ettinger as Brainiac, and story hopes 00:17:34 Avatar: Fire and Ashes review begins (full spoilers) 00:27:35 Varang breakdown, motivations, and the darker mirror of "I see you" 00:33:27 Kiri's bigger role, the spiritual threads, and what it could mean next 00:41:44 Nitpicks, repetition talk, and the voice casting complaint 00:46:09 Scores, theater recommendation, and looking ahead Key Takeaways The episode starts relaxed and holiday coded, then shifts into big franchise conversation fast. The Avengers: Doomsday segment focuses on bringing Steve Rogers back without flattening Sam Wilson's space in the story. The Odyssey trailer has the crew excited for Nolan going mythic on a massive, grounded scale made for premium screens. Brainiac feels like a smart follow up villain for Superman, especially if the story ties power to personal stakes and Krypton lore. Avatar: Fire and Ashes hits harder emotionally this time, with Spider's place in the family and Neytiri's growth standing out. The main knocks are a few familiar Avatar beats repeating, even if the spectacle still wins. Memorable Quotes "This is very much Christmas Vacation. We are clocked out." "At the end of the day, I'm just happy to have Steve Rogers back." "How do they keep making perfect movies?" "You're basically following a dead man's memories." "I see you in that mirror." "I felt like the Colonel when I was just sitting there staring at her." Welcome to our Christmas episode of Radio Free Endor #119 And its The Podcast Before Christmas.. After an eight-month break, Chris and I are finally back behind the mics, catching up on what we've been up to — from new jobs to changing tech and how it's all shaken up our day-to-day lives. We dive headfirst into the latest Star Wars news, breaking down recent trailers and chatting about the much-talked-about partnership between Disney and OpenAI. That leads us into a wider discussion about AI, creativity, and the future of content creation, and how this tech could shape entertainment going forward. There's plenty of classic Radio Free Endor chatter too — including some brilliant Star Wars merchandise, from themed dartboards and darts to collectibles that really caught our eye. We also wander into gaming territory, talking about highlights from The Game Awards, the reveal of Star Wars Galactic Racer, and the long-awaited Knights of the Old Republic remake. Along the way, we touch on everything from Tomb Raider's future, Columbia's Endor collection, and even some unexpected tech talk (yes, including cars and LIDAR). It's a relaxed, festive catch-up packed with Star Wars, gaming, tech, and the usual Endor-fuelled tangents. Grab a drink, settle in, and join us back on Endor. Marvel fans may need to head to the theater sooner than expected. New reports suggest Avengers: Doomsday could be dropping FOUR different trailers, each focusing on a different character — and none of them releasing online. We break down the reported trailer descriptions, what makes this strategy so unusual for Marvel Studios, and whether this signals something bigger for the MCU heading into Doomsday. Also on today's show, we discuss major headlines across entertainment and pop culture. WWE legend John Cena has officially retired from wrestling following a submission loss, potentially closing the book on one of the most iconic careers in sports entertainment history. We reflect on Cena's legacy and what this means for WWE moving forward. The film world also mourns the loss of filmmaker Rob Reiner, who has passed away at age 78, leaving behind an incredible legacy of classic films. Plus, Zootopia 2 continues its box office dominance, becoming the highest-grossing movie of 2025 so far. We also dive into Andy Muschietti's renewed interest in creating an "IT" supercut, combining both films into one definitive experience, and discuss new comments suggesting Star Wars may need a creative shake-up to move the franchise forward. The Diary of a CEO's Director of Trailers, Anthony Smith, on capturing attention in the first few seconds, building cliffhangers and emotional momentum that keep audiences watching (or reading), and testing hooks and packaging without losing trust or story. You'll learn:Why you only have 3–5 seconds to earn attention, and what that changes about your opening lines and first scenes. How to take the guesswork out of hooks by testing titles and thumbnails to see what audiences actually care about.Ways to pull a more compelling later moment forward and work in reverse when the early material is setup. What makes a cliffhanger work across books and videos, and how to raise the stakes so people feel “gutted” not knowing the answer. How to build an “emotional rollercoaster” so the narrative never flatlines. Why sound and silence can help storytelling work, creating intensity and then giving the audience space to breathe. How to balance intrigue with respect for your audience by offering a “moment of value” instead of holding everything back. Why giving away too much can kill curiosity, and how to protect the reason someone keeps reading or watching.Resources and Links:

Tonight we have a Christmas-themed triple feature of public-domain movies as heard from the projection booth: The Star of Bethlehem (1950), Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1948), and Scrooge (1935).We'll also be running trailers from three really bad Christmas movies: Die Hard 2, Santa Conquers the Martians, and Santa Claus (1985). Plus one trailer for a really good Christmas movie, Emmet Otter's Jug-Band Christmas. Rounding things out will be favorite 1980s-ish Christmas commercials and other vintage theater messaging (and a random appliance warehouse ad bc I want it stuck in everyone else's head too).So — The Star of Bethlehem was the only work I was familiar with before beginning this week's episode. It's inclusion is a shout-out to my late father, for his insistence that we make it to the midnight service to hear this story told again and again and again. Miss you, Dad.Religiosity aside, it's an astonishingly beautiful work. I have a computer, and I couldn't dream of producing something this wonderful. If you gave me a time machine to the 1950s, my MacBook, and pitted me against the creative team of Lotte Reiniger and Carl Koch, I would lose every time.Reiniger created articulated paper figures from spare cardboard and other materials, and the team animated them on glass over painted backgrounds. (Preservationists studying her paper figures believe they can tell what she was eating during production, based on what material ended up in the dolls.) One of their rigs also looked like the best bunk bed ever — photo on wiki. Honestly, give me a time machine just so I can hang out with this crew, they seem cool.Rudolph (1948) feels lower-budget by comparison. This is not Rankin/Bass Rudolph, man. It's based on Robert L. May's 1939 story, not the song. And to steal an internet meme: this is Zack Snyder Rudolph. Hard times — you can feel them oozing out of that steely, cold color palette. Which makes sense: World War II had just ended when production began.Going further back in time brings us to our feature film Scrooge (1935). The acting is solid and includes an Ebenezer expert (Seymour Hicks) as the lead. Variety, literally said Hicks could play Ebenezer upside down in its December 11, 1935 issue. And that Hicks played Scrooge for more than a quarter century both onstage and in two films including a silent Scrooge in 1913.As for trailers:Die Hard 2 — which is just Die Hard with the melodrama turned all the way up and relocated to an airport. Also, I'm positive the airplane-eject scene for John McClane was later pilfered by the GoldenEye folks… and it's nowhere near as cool.Santa Conquers the Martians, which I briefly toyed with making the feature; is awful. And Santa Claus (1985)... Last year my family stumbled onto a smart tv Christmas-movie list, and I saw Santa '85 and said, “Hon, I have a movie that will blow your ****** mind. It's like Superman meets Kris Kringle and is still earnest. Everyone is acting out of their brains. It's like Shakespeare. Like if Frank Miller did Shakespeare doing Superman.”And then I hit play like I was firing a heat-seeking photon torpedo at General Chang.Three minutes later, we're watching Santa drown in snow. A few minutes after that: bizarre McDonald's product placement. A scene of people merrily eating Quarter Pounders while, through the window, an unhoused and hungry child stares lustfully at the food consumption. His face framed by the Golden Arches. The movie is bad. But awesome bad. See it for John Lithgow, as an evil toymaker who excels at selling extremely dangerous **** to children. And Dudley Moore is a charming mutinous elf that tries to outdo Santa by creating candy canes that make children float. Definitely see it.And happy holidays, y'all.PS: If you're looking for an uncommon ambience episode with a more modern Scrooge, check out last year's The Night the Reindeer Died: Christmas Workshop Ambience. "Yule love it."
This week the crew digs into a packed slate of streaming news like Netflix updates, Lanterns, The Penguin's second season, and fresh talk around Game Of Thrones and House Of The Dragon. Reviews include Sisu Road To Revenge, Wicked For Good, Blossoms Shanghai, A Man On The Inside, and the latest Blu Ray releases.

For Episode 469, Josh Parham, Giovanni Lago, Daniel Howat, and Tom O'Brien join me for what is one of the biggest episodes of the year. For Episode 468, Cody Dericks, Nadia Dalimonte and Giovanni Lago join me for a packed week of awards season predictions as December looms around the corner and the precursors for the 98th Academy Awards officially begin. We predict the Gotham Awards, New York Film Critics Circle (NYFCC), Los Angeles Film Critics Association (LAFCA), and National Board of Review (NBR) winners, along with what we believe will place in the AFI Top 10 films of the year. We also attempt to predict the likely nominees for the Critics' Choice Awards (CCA) and the Film Independent Spirit Awards. For this week's poll, in celebration of the release of "Jay Kelly," we ask: "Which Is Your Favorite George Clooney Performance?" We also reveal the winner of last week's poll, in which we asked, "Which Films Will Be Oscar-Nominated For Best International Feature Film At The 98th Academy Awards?" In addition, we share our reactions to the trailers for "How To Make A Killing" and "Goat," answer your fan-submitted questions, and more. Thank you all for listening, supporting, and subscribing. More of the funniest reviews on the internet! We read reviews for a famed pizza place, in Italy, where the pizza might be good, but you will be yelled at, and eventually chased from the establishment. A western boot shop, where the attitudes are even more revved up than the crazy prices, but is still a place for short men to get heels. A trailer park, where the water is somehow always off, and is described as "hell on earth" & much more!! Join comedians James Pietragallo & Jimmie Whisman as they explore the most opinionated part of the internet: The Reviews Section! Subscribe, and we will see you every Monday with Your Stupid Opinions!! Dont forget to rate & review!!
