Aside from Art the Clown, what has Damian Leone contributed to horror? We also come dangerously close to gatekeeping while we discuss what extreme horror is. Plus a discussion on the 28 Years franchise somehow leads to a talk about The Bride. We spend a good amount of time talking about Find Your Friends. About 98% of it is spent on the film's writing. It does not take long to realize this is not a good thing. There have been plenty of movies that have led to a discussion about the writing. There has been nothing like this one. The movie clearly deals with sensitive subjects. But it does it in a way that downplays the circumstances, the victim, and its heady themes. It is so bad that we have to constantly reiterate how we are not shitty men. (Who knows? Maybe we are. But that's a different matter.) How bad was the writing for Find Your Friends? So much so that we were constantly filing in story beats to make it make sense to us. And even then, we were still frustrated by what we had seen. This movie had all the ingredients to tell a powerful story about how women are treated. It instead was content to erratically work towards its admittedly wild finale. Horror has always managed to do well at the box office. The way of thinking has always been since the movies are so cheap to make, it is easy to profit of of them. This year has been especially good, with indie horror doing a lot of the heavy lifting. It is clear there is a lesson to learn from this, but will Hollywood learn the right one. (Spoiler alert: no.) Zack Snyder is one of the most polarizing directors around today. That takes in a lot of territory since pretty much everything fits that description nowadays. We talk about his latest project and why we are interested in it. Does this make us Snyderbros? Chum does not reinvent the wheel, but it does not have to. It is a simple revenge story filled with some of the best shark attacks we have ever seen on this show. We talk about the use of AI and how less can sometimes be more. A great sharksploitation movie is more than just a kick ass shark, however. It is not a question of how poor the writing in Chum is; the question is does it ruin all the good the rest of the movie does. Stop paying hidden costs for empty miles and unutilized trailers, and start pivoting from losing money to generating revenue with your existing assets in today's episode with our returning guest, Todd Waldron of REPOWR! Todd talks about the massive financial leakage in traditional trailer fleet management and explains that typical fleets experience 10% to 15% idle days and up to 12% in annual empty miles to relocate capacity. REPOWR flips this dynamic by offering a platform where carriers can optimize trailer pools, execute load-away solutions, and actually get paid to relocate equipment to where it's needed. From mitigating cargo theft through integrations to providing agile short-term rentals that avoid rigid long-term leases, our conversation highlights how shifting from static asset management to a flexible, tech-driven network turns trailer overhead into a strategic revenue stream! Send us Fan MailAI is moving fast enough to feel like magic, but in equipment dealerships that “magic” can just as easily turn into expensive confusion. We sit down with Mets Kramer to get specific about what AI will change in the capital goods space and why the winners won't be the teams with the fanciest chatbot, but the ones who actually understand parts, service, sales, warranty, and how a dealership makes money. If AI can ship a week's worth of work in a day, the real question becomes: are we getting smarter, or just getting faster? We dig into the practical reality of AI hallucinations, the danger of trusting the first clean-looking answer, and why domain knowledge is now the ultimate safeguard. We also talk about the leadership gap inside the industry: fewer managers have “done the jobs” they lead, and training programs that used to build judgment have been treated like optional spending for decades. AI doesn't fix that problem; it amplifies it. Without real training and clear processes, teams can waste weeks chasing confident, wrong outputs. Then we move into high-impact use cases dealers can actually act on: connecting AI to CRM data, using telematics and lifecycle management to time replacement conversations before cost per hour spikes, and using AI to untangle messy service histories for better maintenance planning. We also make the case for a true CIO-style information leader, plus a sober look at cybersecurity and why modern cloud security posture matters for dealer systems. If you want AI to improve dealer profitability, technician productivity, and territory strategy without creating chaos, listen through and share this with someone who controls training and systems. Subscribe, leave a review, and tell us: where would you start applying AI inside your dealership first? If you have listened to a few episodes of Create with Franz, you probably noticed how many times we mentioned that we often act in automatic mode, without much thinking, and we repeat the same mistakes over and over. You also learned that while habits are hard to break, change is possible for everyone. This is particularly important when it comes to those youth who, for various reasons, are embracing gang life, criminal behaviour, drugs, drinking, smoking and many other dangerous lifestyles that eventually lead into serious issues. What if the solution is to retrain their mind, so they don't easily fall into the same autopilot behaviors? Could this be cheaper and more efficient than sending them to prison, a revolving door from which many come and go as the learning has not occurred? The answer is yes and these are the premises that have informed Stuart Lane to cofound Virtual Decisions, a Birmingham-based organization that aims to empower youth to make well-thought decisions through the help of a blend of AI, Virtual Reality and acting. For over 30 years, Stuart has been on the front lines of youth issues—from homelessness to knife crime—using theatre and technology to help young people navigate life's most dangerous crossroads. Stuart casts young people in the same programs that are meant to protect them, ensuring that every accent, every bit of body language, and every 'perfectly imperfect' moment feels like the real world. Just as a pilot learns to react efficiently to any incident by repeating the correct actions over and over, they learn by practicing and repetition how to react in a safe way that will stop a cascade of wrong decisions and nasty consequences. If you have a friend of loved one who is struggling to stay 'clean' and to manage the stress of today's life but keeps falling into the same trap, please contact Stuart to find out more. This is a potentially life-saving program that I can see implemented world-wide to empower our youth to develop confidence in their capabilities despite a challenging environment. Sharing this episode can help someone get a much better life, using AI as a tool and keeping the human connection intact. Topics covered: stop youth offending, mindset change, from criminal to good citizen, use VR for good reasons, how to rewire the brain, change bad habits, avoid crime with mindset. Stuart Lane. They told me. I listened but never internalized it. Saturdays at Texas Frightmare Weekend are a madhouse. You can't fart and someone be unable to recognize what you've had for breakfast. The line to ride the ESCALATOR winds around like at Six Flags (The escalator actually broke halfway through the day.)Naturally, this day was the most packed. I and my producer/cameraman/best friend Dakota traversed like sardines through vendors, met Steve-O of JACKASS fame (who signs ass cheeks and regales curious onlookers with tales of his fake tooth that's removable at will) and checked out some decked-out hearses.Once the sun set, the convention kicked into high gear. First, the world premiere of Full Moon Features' MODELS VS. WEREWOLVES (AI slop). The movie wasted no time in contextualizing producer Charles Band's claim that Full Moon would release 10 films in 2026. How? AI. AI slathered on the screen like dirty Vaseline. There's no visual language developed, no direction, just the vomiting of pre-existing assets. I'd even grant it the moniker of 'collage' if I believed the placement of said elements extended beyond a Copy-Paste prompt.Operating as a salve to MODELS VS WEREWOLVES was the Fake Horror Trailer Showcase, presented by "Bloody" Bill Pon and Kelley Wilson (CIRCUS OF THE DEAD 1 & 2). Here is where anyone, of any skill level or experience, can submit a trailer for a fake horror movie. It flexes creative muscles and made for a riotous celebration of scrappy independence. Mixed in with the fake trailers were real trailers for GOLDILOCKS (twisted fairytale masked slasher)---Texas Frightmare Weekend's websiteFollow The Movies on Instagram & LetterboxdThrow a couple dollars in the tip jar!
Over the years, we have seen and discussed how horror has become more acceptable in the mainstream. This week we talk about two of the most striking examples of this. One is interesting while the other is just straight up weird. But both have us interested. The idea of a nun who has lost her faith is not strange for an exorcism movie. Having the first introduction of said nun has her completely nude and coked up after a threesome is a little different. After showing off this incredibly buff nun, the awesomely titled Speed Demon takes off from there. The film is an example of less being more. It does not reinvent the wheel and tells the simple story of a person trying to overcome their personal demons in order to defeat a literal one. And it works thanks to its setting and quick pace. But it is in the closing moments that Speed Demon truly shines. In a whirlwind of revelations, the most powerful people in the world become entrenched in Sister Lu's world. It also sets up the promise of what could be an exciting franchise. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. This week, Brandon and Gabby talk about the trailers for both the second season of the Avatar: The Last Airbender live action show and the new upcoming Lanterns show. They talk about what they think the live action will change from the original animated series, what they noticed in the trailer that will definitely be in the show, they speculate about what could be happening in the Green Lantern show, they make a few guesses to why these two characters are thrown together, and they patiently wait for both show's releases

Send us Fan MailThe fastest way to lose the next generation of technicians is to make the job feel rigged. We sit down with longtime automotive leader Jim Centorbi to talk about what's really happening in the workforce, why so many young people avoid the trades, and how outdated systems inside the dealership are pushing good talent away.We get specific about technician compensation and the flat rate pay model: what it rewards, what it punishes, and why “uncontrollables” like scheduling chaos, parts delays, and inconsistent estimating land directly on the tech's paycheck. From there we zoom out to the bigger operational issue: too many service departments and fixed operations teams run without a real handbook, clear job descriptions, or consistent training. When everyone improvises, customers wait longer, advisors guess more, and trust erodes. Then we look forward. If direct-to-consumer vehicle sales and EV contracts keep moving the way they are, what happens to the traditional dealership? Where do technicians go? How do parts and service protect labor market share and parts market share when customers can buy everything with three clicks? We argue for a return to basics: mentoring, process, data-driven forecasting, and the golden rule as a competitive advantage. If you care about dealership service, fixed absorption, customer experience, and the future of the automotive industry, this conversation is for you. Obsession has become one of the biggest and most talked about movies in America. So much so that it has actually been the number one movie at the box office during the week. Obviously, this will change over the holiday weekend, but it is still nice to see it doing so well. We also talk about what the future holds for it. It seems like we have been talking about Crystal Lake for years. And every once in a while, we have a little bit more information to discuss. This time we actually have a release date for the Friday the 13th spinoff. And it is just around the corner. Zombie apocalypse movies are a staple of horror. They can do a lot by doing a little. To break away from the formula, there have been a number of movies in the sub-genre that have tried to do more. This Is Not a Test tries to bring a depth rarely seen in zombie films. This ends up ruining the whole thing. At the very least, you would figure that people who like these types of films would enjoy it. The opening certainly gives that impression. After all, it is a generic zombie movie. Then you realize that there is a big piece missing from what is otherwise a ho-hum release. Kris McDonald is a Creative Director and Senior Editor at XAV, and the founder of Behind the Trailer — a free educational platform dedicated to helping aspiring trailer editors break into the business and level up their craft. He came up through Open Road and Trailer Park before landing at XAV (which was Project X at the time), where he's built a career cutting campaigns for major studio and streaming titles including The Chosen, The Big Cigar, and Deepwater Horizon. In this episode, Kris traces his path from runner to creative director, reflects on the mentors and moments that shaped him, and pulls back the curtain on what it actually takes to cut a trailer that makes an audience stop breathing. Key Takeaways Say yes to everything — even the soccer video. Early in his career, Kris was asked to cut a highlight reel for a client's daughter's graduation party. He treated it like a studio campaign, stayed late, and poured everything into it. The client loved it, sat him down in the bay, and introduced him to the work of Nick Temple. The lesson: every cut is an audition. Set a goal, then chase it down. After learning that his mentor Adrian finished his first trailer at 25, Kris made it a personal mission to hit that same milestone. He cut constantly, studied obsessively, and hit the mark — finishing his first trailer on The Blind Side right around his 25th birthday. Emotion, story, rhythm — in that order. Kris breaks down the three pillars he builds every cut around, drawn from Walter Murch's In the Blink of an Eye. A trailer can be slick and fast and technically impressive, but without emotion, it doesn't land. Trial and error is the process. When asked about a gut-punch moment of silence in the Deepwater Horizon trailer, Kris was refreshingly honest: he knew what he wanted the audience to feel, but finding the right technique was pure experimentation. Knowing the destination and figuring out the route are two different skills. Behind the Trailer exists to pay it forward. Everything Kris knows, he learned because someone in a bay was willing to show him their sequences and give him notes. Behind the Trailer is his way of making that kind of mentorship available to anyone who wants it — for free. Standout Quotes "I want you to feel like you can't breathe. I know that this is the moment of the trailer where your breath is taken away. Now, how do I do that?" "I cut a lot of bad trailers. I got good at creating an open, but then it would just drag." "Any sort of information I can give back to people wanting to get into this industry — that's the number one goal." "This is my dream job. I'll never stop cutting." For Episode 491, on the day I leave for Cannes, I am joined by Lauren LaMagna, Dan Bayer, and Megan Lachinski to deliver a final preview of the 79th edition of the world's largest film festival. For this week's poll question, to tie into the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, we're asking everyone: "Which Films From The 2026 Cannes Film Festival Are You Most Looking Forward To?" and reveal the winner of last week's poll, for the announcement of the new Oscar rules, where we asked, "Which Film Festival Prize Winner From The Last Decade Would You Have Nominated For The Oscar Under The New Best International Feature Rules?" We also share our reactions to the trailers for "Tony," "Evil Dead Burn," answer your fan-submitted questions, and more! We hope you enjoy this week's episode. We'll be back midway through the Cannes Film Festival to give you an update on the films Cody Dericks, Nadia Dalimonte, and I have been seeing, and then we'll be fully back in two weeks with our final rundown of the festival. Until then! Thank you all for listening, subscribing, and supporting us. Au revoir! Check out more on NextBestPicture.com Please subscribe on...
