The resident of a rundown boarding house becomes intrigued when a familiar face comes seeking a room. The man has returned from South America with a strange story and even stranger cargo. But will it be his undoing…? This original recording is an audio presentation by Jasper L'Estrange for EnCrypted Horror. “The Black Stone Statue” by Mary Elizabeth Counselman (1937). You can hear me discuss this story by becoming a channel member and listening to episode 13 of The EnCrypted Postmortem. (Due to various issues episodes 12 and 13 will be delayed.) NOTE: My recordings are intended to be an immersive experience featuring music and sound effects. If you don't like these elements, there are plenty of narration channels that don't have them and they'd love to hear from you. This is a hobby/side hustle. I'm an amateur at sound recording and production but I do my best to make something listenable. I do voices to differentiate between characters but I'm not a professional voice actor or narrator. Some of these stories are old and contain words and attitudes you might not like. They do not necessarily represent the views of…well…me. Sometimes a pet dog or cat will die. Horribly.

In this week's epic episode we zoom in from the inky depths of Galaxy A41 to share with an already deeply v4-satiated world our initial incoherent thoughts on the list of changes for ADLGv4, adding almost nothing in the process to the tidal wave of excitement and analytical discussion already sweeping through social media like a somewhat garlic-infused tsunami of love and gratitude for El Kreator's latest issue.   There is also a little bit of chat about painting, a diversion into why buying 1/300th forests from Dunelm off the back of  spurious text-based recommendations on Twitter from complete strangers is sometimes a bad idea, why Germans tend to look less boring after they have had a wash (especially little ones), and a rather impressive foray into why making your own rocks is far better than just, erm, picking them up off of the floor. We also have time to squeeze in a spaced out version of Andy's Quiz notable mostly for the fact that Syphilis is a potential answer to every single question. But, it's the V4 stuff you're probably here for - so press "play" and let's get on with the business...  v4 Changes on madaxeman.com Tamsins Blog  The Devonian Classic - Play ADLGv4 in Devon this coming November Ambient Space noises from Jovica and univ_lyon_3 used under Creative Commons licensing

Quote: “Where do you want to start?” —Farhad Azad About: Afghanistan has far too often been referred to as a place where countries go to die, it is a graveyard of empires. This moniker has been cited so many times and for so long that it’s unclear who first said it. Even the Afghan community will recite this pride. But what a title like this fails to convey is that while this might be a country responsible for the many tombstones of others, it very well is also a moratorium of progress for itself, a state in perpetual arrested development. This is also a cemetery for countless Afghans who, in more modern times, failed to see any empire rise. Why do some countries get to debate their histories while others have their legacy determined by outsiders? And what gets lost along the way? This is Part II of a multi-part story on how history, current events, and culture all complicate the Afghan identity.  Show Notes: [00:30] “The Layers of Heaven” by Jovica [00:45] The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini [00:50] The Breadwinner by Deborah Ellis [01:15] Re: Is it hard to have fun when you have a library card? "You've got boys flying kites again..." —George W. Bush About: Oh, the privilege.  And what a privilege it is to publish a story about the broader theme of culture and identity, specifically for Afghanistan’s diaspora living in the States, like those on that third-culture-wave, when Afghans from the home country are left dealing with far harsher realities. The diaspora’s dilemma pales in comparison (if you’re that foolish to try and compare the two) to their dilemma. No less, it is still a dilemma. With that in mind, Part I of this multi-part story dives into that nebulous question...what does it really mean to be Afghan? Really, what does it mean to be from anywhere? This is a tricky one.
