When you say "Hey, Siri" out loud (and the option is enabled), the virtual assistant will start listening to your commands. The problem is: saying “Hey Seriously” or “A City” – can also trigger the prompt– and this week's guest wondered – what data is being collected and how is it being used? Hello everyone, and welcome to episode 172 of the Resilient Journey podcast, presented by Anesis Consulting Group! This week we're going beyond the firewall as we're joined by cybersecurity and privacy expert, Jason Rowe. What we love about Jason is we get to leverage his skills to allow the rest of us to understand how technology can affect us on a daily basis. Jason tells us that technology is exciting – but we need to slow down and understand what data we're giving away. Jason explains how Apple noticed the “hey Siri” debacle and what happens with the conversations they collect when you trigger that prompt. And Jason gives us all practical advice on things we need to consider when using AI tools. Be sure to follow The Resilient Journey! We sure do appreciate it! Want to learn more about Mark? In this episode of the “Am I Crazy Or Am I Raving” Henry’s Child Podcast Tobby and Thom sit down to talk about everything music-related. They start with the story of how Tobby joined Henry’s Child: A recommendation from a friend (Bishop Freeman of band “Toxic Zombie”) and the reputation of the band were two big factors that contributed to Tobby saying “Yes!”. Tobby tells the story of how he moved from Myrtle Beach to Eugene, joining “Grynch” and eventually putting together “We Have Guns”. Tobby rekindles a story about how he created a website for the Eugene studio Central Node and got offered a job in Portland, where he eventually moved to a few years ago. We play the songs “Toy Soldier” from “Grynch” and “Dead Rising” from “We Have Guns”. Tobby discussed the amount of instruments he plays, including a degree in Flamenco Guitar, and why he is passionate about drums. We talk about the momentum that swung him into taking the gig with Henry’s Child. This includes what it took to honor the original recordings, when playing them for live shows, and ultimately how that affected his playing on the new album. Tobby talks about what it took to keep the sound as close to Henry’s Child as possible, while putting his own spin on it at the same time. We end this episode with Tobby mentioning an important upcoming gig on 3/23/18 in Lebanon. It’s a benefit for Jason Rowe (from “Strange Dichotomy” and “30 Pound Test”), who was recently diagnosed with cancer. The benefit is two nights, with 10 bands each night. Jai was the stage name of Jason Rowe, who in the 90s recorded one of the great lost albums with Heaven. Referring to his style as "a mod for the hip-hop generation", Heaven produced one of the best singles of the decade with "I Believe" which was a modest hit on alternative radio in 1997. Unfortunately, that was it for Jai, or so I thought. Come to find out, he released one more album under his given name in 2006 called Lovelife which, unfortunately, remains fairly obscure. Despite it all, Jason has managed to consistently make a living through music (in some very unique ways) and isn't shy discussing what went wrong and who's to blame. The best guests are the ones that don't pull any punches and Jason tells it as he sees it. Plus, he recounts one of the best Mick Jagger stories you'll ever hear. Get to know a great artist you may have missed the first time.
