With Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson's Supreme Court confirmation hearings just days away, judicial expert Lena Zwarensteyn of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights joins Abby, Yochi, and Jeremy Paris to discuss how some senators will try to block Jackson's nomination, how progressives will defend it, and why this fight will set the stage for the bigger Supreme Court battles still to come.
With President Biden formally nominating Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court, Abby and guest host Jeremy Paris spoke with Fatima Goss Graves, president of National Women's Law Center, about what we need to know about the potential first Black woman justice in SCOTUS history, what progressives can do to support her during the confirmation fight ahead, and how her voice will shape our country for decades to come.
Being involved in one Supreme Court nomination fight is impressive. Our guest, Jeremy Paris, has been involved in eight of them. In the first of a three-part series, Paris — the executive director of the Committee for a Fair Judiciary — joins Abby and Yochi to talk about the impact of Biden's historic choice to nominate a Black woman to the Supreme Court, how conservatives have weaponized the judicial system, and how to keep Trump-appointed judges from shaping American life for decades to come.

Jeremy Paris’ teenage rebellion might have led him into a surly adulthood, as just another guy with a chip on his shoulder. But a high school teacher saw beyond his “in-your-face” art project and praised his originality and courage. That changed Jeremy from that point forward. After a career in the military and as a defense contractor, he started the Veteran Resource Podcast to inform veterans about the many organizations, programs and opportunities available to veterans and their family members.

He helped coordinate the 2017 Women Veteran Art Exhibit in collaboration with VA's Center for Women Veterans. About Jeremy: Jeremy Paris was born in Buffalo, NY and joined the US Army immediately after graduating from high school. After ten years as a Personnel Administration Sergeant he left the military to become a government contractor performing computer support to the Department of Defense. Although the initial plan was to be a contractor for two years and then split, he spent the next 16 years supporting the same customer within different rolls. Jeremy has been on the staff of Veteran Artist Program (VAP), a non-profit Veteran Service Organization since 2010. While at an event in Washington DC with VAP Jeremy shook hands with people representing so many veteran-focused organizations that he was blown away. As it turns out, the Veterans Association (VA) is not the only resource for veterans. Despite what you hear in the news, the VA does a pretty damn good job of taking care of our veterans. Well, I've had a good experience anyway. However, the VA can not possibly cover every single need our veterans and family members require once they separate. There are many other veteran resources to help with everything from PTSD, finding jobs, interviewing for jobs, resume writing, starting a business, showing off and selling your art, and so much more. But where do you go to find all of these resources? That's where Jeremy Paris comes in. Jeremy is the host of Veteran Recourses Podcast. Of course we talk about what Veteran Recourses Podcast can do for you today. But we also get to know the many behind the show. Jeremy get's very personal and shares a story that certainly get your blood boiling. How could anyone do that to a veteran, or anyone for that matter?
