10X YOUR THOUGHTS When it comes to thinking about thinking beyond yourself and 10x your thoughts most people relate to Google. Why? Well……its that they think about how they can improve what they do by a factor of 10 times, rather than by 10% like others. To most, this would be a stressful task but not google. It challenges them to think about everything they do in terms of revolutionary change rather than being one of the crowd and adapting to change that occurs Using communication as an example we use telephones and emails as are our methods of communication. But not too long ago this was all done by fax machines, written letters and these were considered as mainstream ways of communication. By 10X improvement to such communication, for example, we were forced to radically look at communication in a different way which then led to significant improvements and looking at issues in other forms. We may not have seen email or phone comms coming in the last 20 years, but it is certainly here now. And realistically, with the way technology is constantly improving,  we can almost guarantee that these forms of communication as we know it will disappear in the not too distant future. As hard as this is to imagine -- it will happen. The real problem is how we as humans adapt and think in our environments. Evolution has designed the brain to think about change in a linear way – which, in the past, has helped us to adapt, and win the Darwinian race. Linear thinking was really useful when the edge of our universe was our local area. But the world is now global and hyper-connected – and our brains were not designed for the impact of that . Very simply, our brains are designed just to recognize small and easy sequences like 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. But technology just doesn’t improve that way. It improves exponentially – changing at an accelerating rate of 1, 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256, 512. Those two paths are massively divergent, making it difficult for us to predict and perform in that way – unless we enforce a different way of thinking. 10X that is. The real risk to an exponentially changing world is evolution, rather than revolution. That’s why it’s no longer good enough to simply improve what’s there. 10x thinking is not easy, but incremental change no longer fits this rapidly changing world. ADAPT OR DIE Changing circumstances and the ability to accept it! The reality is that we cant avoid a changing environment and the more we try to fight it the harder it comes. Change in our lives is constant and it is important to get comfortable with it and learn to embrace it. Our choices, chance, life experience or even crisis can all be triggers in our lives for change to occur. Whichever way you look at it we end up having to make a choice weather we make the required change or we don’t. The more resistant and unprepared you are to change, the less control you have over how you take your life forward. You live your life as a reactionary rather than an activator of change in these cases. Unexpected events cant be avoided in our lives, bear in mind that its these events that push us out of our comfort zones and challenge us -- this is where our growth lies. Running away or ignoring such challenges means we’re losing out on the chance to learn and grow. Strategies for adapting to changing circumstances 1 -- Mindset -- fixed mindsets and self -- limiting beliefs show up at times of change in the form of fear. Interestingly enough, it is our power of choice that enables us to activate positive change in our lives. So actively using your power of choice allows you to focus more on proactively taking control of your life and will lead you to see challenges and change in a positive way. 2. Searching for direction In Your Life Having a clear thought of what is important in your life gives you purpose and sets the direction of how you want to live your life. This thus provides you with the clarity and focus required to successfully adapt and manage the impact of change in your life. 3. Write a challenge list of things you can’t see yourself doing – Then Go Do Them Change is scary and it is all about stepping out of your comfort zone into the unknown. Our subconscious needs to get familiar with us stepping out of a comfort zone and doing scary things. It should be our job to make this the norm in our lives. An idea is to make a list of scary things that you would like to do but have been too afraid to. Put a plan in place and then go do them.  Then make them happen, enjoy them and step into the unknown. Final Thoughts You deserve nothing but the best in this life, especially as we only have one to live. To make our desires and dreams come true we have to be able to adapt to a constantly changing environment but being proactive in our approach to life. The marshmallow test is one of the most famous pieces of social-science research: Put a marshmallow in front of a child, tell them that they can have a second one if they can go 15 minutes without eating the first one, and then leave the room. Whether they’re patient enough to double their payout is supposedly indicative of a willpower that will pay dividends down the line, at school and eventually at work. Passing the test is, to many, a promising signal of future success. The original test was done with 90 children from a similar background and all at the Standford Preschool. A second study was completed with 900 children, all from different social-economic backgrounds.Ultimately, the new study found limited support for the idea that being able to delay gratification leads to better outcomes.
