This week on "Playing the Field," Ryan, Jen, and Gina bring you a special second podcast episode with Kathy Swarts! Kathy, a podcaster herself on "The Golden Hour" which is part of "Bachelor Happy Hour," took some time to talk about her stay in "Paradise." This week we saw Kathy win a trip to the "Bachelor in Paradise" VIP suite! She talks all about how she won the challenge, the story behind it, and why she picked Keith to enjoy it with her. Kathy also digs into the possible connection between Jonathon and April, and what we can expect to see next week. Will Jonathon make a senior love connection or will it be an alliance? Kathy says we'll have to watch to find out more! Also, Kathy shares her thoughts on the younger cast members and what she thinks about their prospects. As an alumnus of "The Golden Bachelor" Kathy revealed her thoughts on the new "Golden Bachelor" Mel, and his words on women over 60. She thinks that he said some of the comments in jest, but suggested that he needs to get to know her. Kathy also predicted that once he's in the "Bachelor Mansion" he'll fall in love because you just can't help it in that atmosphere. Learn more about your ad choices. The TechLink Health Podcast

In today's episode, we explore the evolving world of the Internet of Things (IoT), with a focus on its healthcare applications—IoHT (Internet of Health Things) and MIoT (Medical Internet of Things). These technologies are reshaping healthcare, personal safety, and connected care. The MIoT market is projected to grow from $93 billion in 2025 to $134 billion by 2029, while the smart hospital market may reach $148 billion. With 2.2 to 3.3 million connected medical devices already in use globally, the impact on patient monitoring, operational efficiency, and health equity is significant. While macro trends are important, we'll also highlight specific technologies making a difference every day.In past episodes, we've talked about challenges associated with an aging population and in today's episode we'll dial in and look to connect the dots with connected devices that are focused on sending medical alerts. As a quick highlight, 1 in 4 adults over 65 fall each year, which is a significant number considering that falls are the leading cause of injury-related death among adults age 65 and older. The Golden Hour is the critical first 60 minutes following an emergency event, when receiving treatment is believed to offer the greatest chances of survival. Here to talk about all of this and more is Chia-Lin Simmons, CEO of LogicMark. LogicMark provides a comprehensive platform of technology products and services that enable the Internet of Things (IoT). It provides technology products and services in healthcare communications and personal safety applications and services.Listen in with us as we discuss best practices for future-ready home health and the importance of inter-connected devices.Other insights range from how AI and ML are helping to transition from more reactive responses to more predictive responses with health-tech, to an introduction for the concept of “care villages” and how “connected data and devices” will start to virtually emulate the historical practices of multi-generational housing, to why game theory is emerging as a strategy in healthcare to balance between the various stakeholders and create winning scenarios as well as the best outcomes for patients. For more details visit TechLink Health on the web or connect with Chia-Lin on LinkedIn.This episode was hosted by Dr. Sarah Samaan.

De Songwriting Podcast
Waarom er geen Golden Hour bestaat voor het schrijven van liedjes

De Songwriting Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 4, 2025 15:23

SEASON 2 - EPISODE 146 - Matthew Specktor - Author Author Matthew Specktor joins us in this episode of the Team Deakins Podcast. In his recently released memoir, THE GOLDEN HOUR, Matthew, the son of legendary talent agent Fred Specktor, uses his parents' divergent professional and personal lives to reflect on the film industry as it was, and he writes about his own life and career in and around the movies to reflect on what it has become. After reading it (and Matthew's other novels), we felt we had to speak with him. What follows in this episode is a wide-ranging and lively conversation about Matthew's life, his and our views on the changes in the film business and in the films themselves, cinema's place in society, and the genuine love for Hollywood that comes out in his writing. We also discuss the changing economics of funding films, the shifts in who wields power in Hollywood, and Matthew details the brief window in the 1960s and 1970s in which filmmakers were afforded a relative freedom not seen since. In THE GOLDEN HOUR, Matthew at times places us inside the minds of industry figureheads such as Lew Wasserman and Michael Ovitz, and Matthew shares how understanding the men who changed the film industry can help us better understand where we are today. We also reflect on the all-consuming lifestyle of working in Hollywood, and Matthew likens it to being trapped in a casino at two in the morning—forever. Plus, Matthew shares what it was like learning how to write from a uniquely qualified professor: James Baldwin.  - Recommended Reading: THE GOLDEN HOUR - This episode is sponsored by Profoto & Aputure

Your Most Photographed Summer Ever

The Beginner Photography Podcast

#572 In this episode of the podcast, I talk about what it really means to capture summer memories as a beginner photographer. As a parent with two kids on summer break, I know how chaotic this season can get—plans change, weather interrupts, and sometimes my camera is nowhere near when moments unfold. That's why this episode is all about embracing progress over perfection and being present with your camera, no matter if it's a phone or a “real” camera. I share personal stories, like the time I snapped a treasured summer photo with just my phone because my camera was inside, to prove that it's the feeling and memory that matters, not how technically perfect the shot is.KEY TOPICS COVEREDMaking Everyday Summer Moments Photogenic - Raymond urges listeners not to wait for "perfect" planned events, but to photograph daily summer experiences. He explains that some of the best, most meaningful images come from spontaneous occasions—like family time around a backyard firepit or a child enjoying a popsicle—using whatever camera is on hand. The focus is on presence and being ready to document the essence of summer.Developing Practical Habits for Photography: - The episode encourages the habit of always having a camera nearby, whether that's a phone or a compact camera, and provides tips to reduce friction—keeping batteries charged, storing cameras in convenient locations, and using simple accessories. This approach helps cultivate an instinct for capturing unplanned moments and builds a portfolio over time.Understanding and Utilizing Summer Light: - Raymond highlights the unique, dynamic qualities of summer light—golden hour, harsh midday sun, and artificial light at fairs or night events. He suggests photographic exercises to observe and shoot how light changes throughout the day, offering practical examples and ways to train the eye for compelling compositions in any lighting scenario.IMPORTANT DEFINITIONS & CONCEPTSGolden Hour: The short window of time right after sunrise or before sunset when the light is soft, warm, and flattering. It's popular with photographers because of the golden glow and long shadows.Friction-free Shooting: The practice of minimizing obstacles to carrying and using your camera, such as by keeping it handy, ensuring batteries are charged, and having a plan for spontaneous shooting. This makes photography a natural part of daily life rather than a chore.DISCUSSION & REFLECTION QUESTIONSHow can you make photography a more integrated part of your everyday life this summer?Think about a meaningful summer memory—how could you capture it without worrying about technical perfection? In what ways does your relationship to light change throughout the day, and how can you use that to create more dynamic photos?Sign up for your free CloudSpot Account today at www.DeliverPhotos.comConnect with Raymond! There's plenty of nostalgia as they break down their favorite rap eras, argue over Jay-Z albums, and discuss why some music just doesn't age well. Today on the Rarified Heir Podcast, we are talking to novelist  Matthew Specktor, whose new book, The Golden Hour: A Story of Family and Power in Hollywood, is out now and getting rave reviews. Matthew spoke to us about growing up behind the scenes in Hollywood as the son of an icon of the film industry, Fred Specktor, a super-agent of A-list Hollywood talent who is still going strong at 92 years old. With a roster of clients that included everyone from Robert DeNiro, Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Danny Devito and many, many more, Matthew was brought up in and around the film business and had a firsthand look. Part memoir, part biography, part cultural history & part fiction, The Golden Hour has been priases in outlets such as NPR, the New York Times, the Kirkus Review, the LA Times and many more for it's unique look into Hollywood and the battle between art vs. commerce and much more. As this is his third book based on his take on Hollywood, Matthew is getting name-checked alongside iconic LA based, Hollywood centric authors such as Joan Didion and William Goldman and getting praise from authors like Jonathan Lethem and Griffin Dunne. High praise indeed. We get into that as well as how Matthew formed the book and the basis of his exploration into his family and the city formed him, shortly. Matthew's behind-the-scenes stories of how Hollywood was created in the second half of the twentieth century at Tinseltown institutions like MCA, William Morris and CAA beginning in the 1950s and where we are today, 70 years later a a large part of this episode. But we also hear personal stories about pranks the pre-rat pack played on him and his best friend Renee Estevez (daughter of Martin Sheen) in high school, what LA restaurants his family ate on special occasions, the cars and vanity plates of super agents in the City of Angelss and the movie theaters and books that shaped his youth on the Westside of Los Angeles. This is the Rarified Heir Podcast and if you've never had David Lynch tell you, you were more an artist than a deal maker at 13, take a listen because Matthew Specktor has. Everyone has a story.

JAL takes Paul on a wonderful flight to Haneda (that amenity kit too!). The new HND approach is everything (but HND T3 isn't). The aircraft guide for kids, by Vinod (and how wonderful are those Delta pilots!). An airborne Wifi setup that is so long, it will get you sober. An ode to the 757, they really don't make planes like those anymore (but Delta does a great job refreshing them). Want to invite 8 people to the lounge? Be an Ultimate baller (if you have one of those super exclusive statuses, get in touch!). The battle of the Guanacaste Airport carts (and the battle of gate PA announcements). Even ATL looks nice in a golden hour. JAL Euphony, or the only valid excuse to listen to content without headphones! That time when Paul got to drink whisky in the cockpit with a disheveled Fidel Castro (well, not exactly, but close enough). —Follow us, and comment on: Instagram - Bluesky - Threads - Mastodon - Twitter/XComment on each episode, and rate us, on SpotifyReview, and rate us, on Apple PodcastsComment, like, review, and rate us, on FacebookComment on YouTube (there's no video, just audio!)Search for "Layovers" on any podcast service (some direct links are on our website)If we're missing one, or if you have any feedback, let Paul know on Instagram - Threads - Mastodon - Bluesky - Twitter/X

Matthew Specktor, in his new memoir "The Golden Hour," offers a unique perspective on Hollywood's transformation — as both the son of legendary talent agent Fred Specktor and a thoughtful cultural observer. He explores how the movie industry shifted from a close-knit "family business," where art and commerce balanced, to today's corporate-dominated landscape. Specktor reflects on how this mirrors broader American cultural changes, the diminishing role of movies in our collective imagination, and what's lost when filmmaking becomes primarily about algorithms and franchises rather than human stories.
