Completing the mission is the target. Using your techniques, skills, and resources learned in the military to complete the mission should be no different when it comes to mental health and wellbeing. Complete your mission in finding the best ways to live the life you so deserve by completing the mission for your mental health well being. Suzi has the honor of taking with Retired 1SG U.S. Army Tom Cruz about his journey recovering from attempted suicide while still in service and rebuilding his life one day at a time. Tom has experienced first hand the importance of a strong support system and the importance of using this knowledge to help others to build and repair their own team.Tom's BioMy name is Tom Cruz, Retired Army 1SG, 26 years, deployed to Kosovo in 1999 then to Iraq 05-06, 06-07, 07-08 and Jordan in 2017. Stationed at locations from Ft. Bragg, Ft. Campbell, Puerto Rico, the Maryland/DC area and Tampa, Florida and Belgium. I was a Soldier that thought I could take care of everything on my own, had all the answers for everyone else until 3 November 2010 when that came all crashing down. That day changed my life and those around me forever, I realized I could not handle the pressure of doing everything on my own and “One” person stopped me from not being able to tell this story today.I have gone through the (MRT) Master Resilience Training Level One at UPenn, (ASIST) Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training, (ASIST T4T) ASIST Training for Trainers, (QPR) Questions, and Persuade and Refer online, Crisis Intervention / Mental Health Training through Mid-Continent University, (ACE SI) Ask, Care Escort Suicide Intervention Trained, and (safeTALK) Safe Tell, Ask, Listen, and Keepsafe; amongst others because I want to be that “One” for someone else, so no one has to go through what I went through.Over the past 12 years I have been a part of multiple organizations, two I helped start from the foundation that deal with the social media realm particularly Facebook. I now work with incarcerated Veterans and Civilians getting their lives on track after coming out of prison.Follow Tom on LinkedIn Music credit to Kalvin Love for the podcast's theme song “Bee Your Best Self”Contact Suzi at suzigma@gmail.com or (818) 470-2013 and share your story.vetsandplayers.orgwildhorserescue.org Visit our webpage at cominghomewell.comInterested in sponsoring our podcasts email us at cominghomewell@gmail.comFollow us on our socialsYouTube @cominghomewellbehindtheserviceInstagram @cominghomewell_btsFacebook at Coming Home WellLinkedIn at Coming Home WellTwitter @ComingHomeWellThank you for listening!

Aloha, my name is Patricia Wistinghausen and over the past decade I have been working mostly as an Administrative Professional, and then volunteering my time as a Community Organizer and Advocate for various social justice issue areas. Through my years of public service, civic engagement, and community stewardship, I’ve been fortunate to be a founding member, board member, and leader within locally-based organizations on the island of Kaua’i, across the state, and representing Hawai’i at a national level.    Below is a list of some of the groups that I’ve been involved with, or am still actively volunteering with: Chair (2018) and Vice-Chair (2019) of the Committee on the Status of Women (CSW) with the County of Kaua’i Boards and Commissions Vice-Chair (2018-2020) and Founding Member of the statewide Veterans Caucus with the Democratic Party of Hawai’i Board of Directors for the statewide organization, Emergency Management Professionals of Hawai’i (EMP-HI) – Founding Member, Elected to the 1st Board of Directors as Charter Secretary – Executive Officer, 1st Woman on the Board, served as President-Elect (2018), President (2019), and Immediate Past President (2020). Ho’okele Coalition of Kaua’i – Prevention Committee Member – County of Kaua’i Kaua’i Community Action Team Member – Sexual Assault Violence Prevention Kaua’i State Central Committee Representative – Democratic Party of Hawai’i (2016-2020) Past Leader in Kaua’i Women’s Caucus and Kaua’i Young Democrats Founding Member and Past Coordinator of the Kaua’i Violence Prevention Coalition (KVPC) Past Board Member of the Kaua’i Rural Health Association (KRHA) Am also an advocate in groups fighting for a Living Wage, for Prison Reform, for LGBTQ+ rights, for increasing access to Veterans’ Services (especially for disabled veterans), access to Healthcare as a Human Right, along with Racial, Economic, and Environmental Justice.   For the past 7 years, I have also been most actively involved in the Prevent Suicide Kaua’i Task Force (PSKTF). I’m a Steering Committee Member, Suicide Prevention Educator, and safeTALK Trainer for our island; going on 4 years now. Out of the different community issues that I’ve dedicated my time to, in addition to being passionate about Women’s Advocacy and Gender Equity Rights, I dedicate the most time to my work in Suicide Prevention.   As is the case with nearly every person that has ever been in one of my Suicide Prevention Trainings, I am connected in the form of family members and friends who died by suicide, who are attempt survivors, who have had or are having thoughts of suicide, and because I’ve had personal struggles of my own. When you lose a loved one, a classmate, an acquaintance, or even a celebrity you admired to suicide, no matter how distant the relation may have been, the pain is still felt in your heart and throughout your community with each life lost.  My goal in having started this Consulting company in the midst of this coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, was to focus my efforts on reaching out to my community via suicide prevention education. By sharing information and delivering trainings, I aim to continue empowering individuals to recognize signs that someone may be thinking about suicide and to have the tools to engage that person and start having those difficult conversations. When it comes to suicide prevention, we know that the more we talk about suicide the less likely someone will be to take their own life. By bringing it up first, and asking the question ‘Are you thinking about suicide?’ we create a safe space and give the person struggling permission to speak about their thoughts with someone who is willing to listen without judgement and is there to support them as they recognize for themselves their reasons for wanting to die, and more importantly, talking through their reasons for wanting to KeepSafe and live.  All of the issues I have worked on and continue to work on are tied together in the shared experience of humanity. It all comes back to equity and prioritizing our mental health and well-being (#SelfCare) along with that of others. I am still learning this, but through teaching and talking with others I hope to continue understanding and finding that balance. When we talk about difficult things and allow ourselves to lean into that discomfort and be vulnerable – as Dr. Brene Brown says – we can then lean on each other for the strength we need to keep going; or we can better recognize when we need to be still, recognize and listen to how we are really feeling (happy, sad, angry, joyous) and in the moments that we feel them. In those ways we’ll be able to honor our mental health by not putting on a brave face or wearing a figurative mask, but we can work towards destigmatizing the act of being ourselves.    We’re all a work in progress, as is this website, but for now here’s also some information on my Professional Work Experience for your reference: In addition to volunteering with these groups and others, Patricia has over a decade of experience in the Administrative Professional field having served in the roles of Office Manager, Receptionist, Program Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Administrative Coordinator, and Sales Manager while working with for-profit companies, non-profit organizations, and in local and state government. She was also the founding departmental head and served as the Campus Public Safety Manager (Security Director, Safety Officer, Emergency Manager) for Kaua’i Community College, and the Transit Security Grant Planner and TheBus Safety Outreach Coordinator and Educator for the City & County of Honolulu; delivering anti-terrorism, transit-related outreach education, particularly to limited English proficiency populations. Patricia specializes in: – Prevention Education and Outreach; especially on Suicide Prevention – Public Speaking on the topics of Mental Health and Suicide, and Gender Equity as a Woman of Color – Administrative Assistant Services – both Virtual and In-Person on the island of Kaua’i  – Social Media Marketing, Website, and Content Creation Patricia is a graduate of the University of Hawai`i – West O`ahu where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration (Government Management) with Concentrations in Disaster Preparedness Emergency Management and Justice Administration. Patricia is from Kaua’i, grew up in Wailua, and now resides in Kapa’a with her husband Justin. Feel free to reach out to me! I’m a friendly person and would love to collaborate with you on helping our communities. Mahalo for taking the time to read this and looking forward to talking with you soon! With Love & Aloha,    Patricia  patricia@patriciawistinghausen.com

8 clever ways that tech can reveal a cheating wife or girlfriendPeople cheat. Not everyone, not all the time, but extramarital affairs are downright common. Even now, in the age of serial divorces and polyamory, when marriage is as flexible – and even disposable – as it ever has been, devoted husbands and wives succumb to temptation. When looking for evidence, partners usually turn to spy apps. These secretive phone apps track everything a person does and where the person goes.In addition, camera technology has advanced a lot in the past few years. They keep getting smaller and smaller, making it possible to conceal them any which way.Spycam manufacturers have been creative in producing some of the most cleverly disguised (and tiny) camera/DVR systems, complete with HD video, motion detection, large storage card support and remote controls. In many ways, technology makes infidelity easier to pull off. Spouses can hold erotic video chats, send “pins” that mark their favorite meeting spots, and exchange images and text with their lovers in countless different ways. An actual tryst requires people to be physically present in the same place, but foreplay can happen anytime, anywhere – and the faithful may have no idea.At the same time, years of marriage will hone a spouse's instincts, and we often know when something seems funny. Computers, tablets, and smartphones absorb adulterous evidence like a sponge, and once suspicions are aroused, tech can offer many clues about a potential dalliance.Let me be clear: The best thing you can do is have a frank and honest conversation with your spouse about your marriage. Couples therapy can work wonders. However, if your relationship wasn't healthy to begin with, or you need something tangible before starting divorce proceedings, these are basic methods for busting a cheater.1. A Hidden or Locked PhoneMany people turn their phones away from others to protect their privacy. However, most of us don't hide our phones from our spouses. This gesture is subtle, but it can suggest illicit text conversations. Cheaters are often protective of their phones; they don't share their passwords, and they even change their passwords to keep their phones' content a secret.Push notifications are a nightmare for unfaithful spouses, because they may show snippets of conversation – from texts, emails, and so on – that could incriminate both parties. Spotting a suspicious push notification, or even noticing the sudden absence of them, can be suggestive.2. A Second PhoneThe easiest way to keep two romantic lives separate is to buy two separate phones. That way, the cheater doesn't get confused and text the wrong person by mistake. The existence of this second phone is also a liability, even if it is described as a “work” or “emergency” phone.Another technique is to purchase a separate SIM card, which can be switched out of phones that have been “jail-broken.” This is a lot of work and unlikely for most cheaters, but if you find a SIM card lying around, you may be able to extract its data by inserting it into another phone.3. Scanning Any Digital ReceiptsReceipts are often sent by text message or email. If you have access to your spouse's online accounts, you may be surprised to find these digital receipts for products and services you've never heard of. (Read: hotels, restaurants, jewelry stores). Most people don't leave a physical “paper trail,” but virtual documentation often persists. The same goes for frequent flyer miles and credit card points, which a cheater may spend on a fling. Cheaters often go to great lengths to avoid using their checking and credit card accounts, but there are many other ways to pay for a rendezvous, from Groupon to Paypal to Venmo, and they will still leave a trace of their transactions.4. Try to Find Their PhoneMany popular devices utilize some form of location technology and often make it easier to have the service turned on than to disable it. If your spouse uses an Apple device that is connected to a family account and they have enabled location sharing, you can locate their device by logging on iCloud.com and clicking on Find My iPhone or by using the Find My Friends app.If your spouse uses an Android phone and is logged on to Google on a shared computer, you can type "Find My Phone" into the search bar, and you'll be provided with the phone's location.5. Then, Look to GPSAs we become more reliant on GPS these days, you may also want to take a peek at your spouse's location history. For Google users, the "previous destinations" menu option on the navigation system may chronicle your spouse's movements; for Android users, the Google Timeline feature (found in the Google Maps app or Google Maps online if they are logged in) functions similarly. If your spouse uses an iPhone, there is one place to be sure to look. Many people don't even know this treasure trove of tracking exists. You can find their frequent locations in Settings > Privacy > Location Services > System Services > Significant Locations. It takes a fair amount of effort to consistently disable or delete these types of settings so if they are up to no good, you're likely to find something here.6. Search Every Letter of the AlphabetCheaters would have to be pretty stupid not to clear the search histories on their browsers. If they routinely access dating sites, especially hook-up services like Ashley Madison and AdultFriendFinder, they will probably think to cover their tracks, unless they like flirting with disaster as much as attractive strangers.Auto-fill is harder to remember. Search engines like Google do a remarkable job of guessing your search parameters, based on everything you have ever searched before. If you share a computer with a suspect spouse, you may intend to type “Megalodon,” and instead the words “Megan Granger home phone number” flash across the field. Take this a few steps further. Start typing each letter of the alphabet and see what pops up.7. Check Any Cloud ServicesThe most dangerous habit for cheaters is to send photos and video. These media may spice things up, but they are vivid evidence of an affair, and such materials can be used as evidence in divorce proceedings – especially if a betrayed husband or wife can save or download copies. To keep these images and video covert, cheaters may have a special cloud service. For example, the Keepsafe Photo Vault is designed to both store these media files and prevent others from accessing them. Many customers use Keepsafe for work or personal reasons, but if you notice that your spouse has a Keepsafe account and you can't figure out why, you may be onto something. Two similar services are Vault and Hide It Pro, which were created to store photos and video and protect them with a PIN. They also function similarly to cloud services like Google Drive, Dropbox, and Apple's Cloud, but security is their top priority. Be sure to check on Amazon Prime because this service gives you a place to store your photos, too.8. Secret Messages Hidden in Audio or Photo FilesIf your cheater is savvy, he or she may know how to secretly embed an image into an audio or picture file. You think it's a familiar song or a landscape shot but a steamy pose might be hidden behind the notes and trees. It's easy to make these files and even easier to distribute them unnoticed. Tools like DeepSound or QuickStego make this point-and-click work for the casual cheater. The snoop usually suspects nothing unusual. The files appear to be ordinary. You need to know a special keystroke or code to unlock the files.Technological espionage is the least-healthy way to address these problems, and you should only use these techniques as a last resort. Infringing on your spouse's privacy can cause even more damage, and certain kinds of infringements are bona fide illegal.
