Have you felt more tired, stressed, negative, or ineffective since you started working remotely? If so, you may be burnt out. But you’re not alone. Work-from-home burnout is quickly becoming the next societal health crisis. A reported 70% of Americans have experienced burnout since the pandemic started, up from 52% in May. Rather than a medical condition, the World Health Organization (WHO) describes burnout as an “occupational phenomenon” or “syndrome” stemming from chronic, unaddressed work stress. Working remotely offers the potential for more flexibility and work-life balance. When Black Friday hit on April 15, 2011, Kristin Wilson sprang into action, using her unique skill set to start helping online poker pros in the US relocate to countries more hospitable to poker, like Canada and Costa Rica. Several years later, she is still at it, having relocated thousands of players. She helps with everything from finding an apartment to moving, customs, establishing bank accounts other important financial arrangements, and a host of other deceivingly complex aspects of moving to a foreign country as a professional online poker player. My guest today is a woman named Kristin Wilson. Kristin founded a company called Poker Refugees after Black Friday which has helped to relocate about 500 poker players to many different countries around the world. I met her during the summer in Vegas and I thought she would be great to have on. We spend the first part talking about her past as a professional surfer, living in Costa Rica and more. I think she has a pretty cool backstory that we don't get to hear much about as she has never been a poker player. We spend a bunch of time talking about her company, how/why she decided to start it, the challenges of it and all things pertaining to it.
