In the second exclusive interview of the "Treasury Series" for Irish Tech News, Selva Ozelli Esq, CPA, Author of Sustainably Investing in Digital Assets asks Hive's President and CEO Aydin Kilic why he decided to move his sustainable BTC mining company headquarters to the US. President Donald Trump signed the Guiding and Establishing National Innovation for U.S. Stablecoins Act (GENIUS Act) into law on July 18th making it the first federal law to regulate stablecoins. Approved by Congress on Thursday, July 17th the bill's passage saw the digital asset industry assets - particularly digital asset treasury company stocks- surge past a $4 trillion market capitalization for the first time with a report by Coincub showing increased digital asset activity in the US. The GENIUS Act imposes federal and state oversight on stablecoins - digital assets backed by the U.S. dollar - transforming realms of finance forever and making President Trump the de facto crypto president of our Nation. The US's new digital asset strategy as detailed in the crypto report has company CFO's increasingly viewing digital assets as strategic reserve assets. Some are establishing dedicated corporate entities to hold digital assets on their balance sheets and raising capital specifically to acquire them for reserve as detailed in my first interview in the "Treasury Series" is titled "Public Companies You Didn't Know Are Investing in Altcoins, insights with Brian Rudick". Other digital asset technology companies like Hive Digital Technologies are moving their headquarters to the US particularly after President Trump announced that Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Solana, and Cardano will be included in the Nation's 'Crypto Strategic Reserve'. And Eric Trump Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer of American Bitcoin at the Consensus 2025 Conference announced "The launch of American Bitcoin [which] represents a transformative moment for Bitcoin mining in North America… I am so proud to share our bold vision for this initiative, which we believe will become the world's largest and most efficient pure-play Bitcoin miner." Recently, Trump Media acquired about $2 billion in Bitcoin as part of its plan to become a BTC treasury company. Aydin Kilic interview Tell us about your educational and professional journey that led you to become the CEO of Hive Digital Technologies? My path to becoming HIVE's President & CEO has been anything but conventional. I began my career in electrical engineering, specializing in radio frequency systems. That technical foundation gave me a strong appreciation for infrastructure, systems optimization, and scalability: skills that continue to serve me in the digital asset space. After engineering, I shifted into Vancouver's competitive real estate market, working in land development and distressed assets. It was a crash course in deal-making, risk management, and the financial discipline of cash flow, all of which became critical when I co-founded Fortress Blockchain during the 2017 crypto bull run. We started as a small mining operation, but within a month we raised $20 million, acquired a 2 MW facility, and went public. That experience was transformative and positioned me to step into larger leadership roles in the blockchain industry. I joined HIVE in 2021, just in time to help ring the Nasdaq opening bell. Since then, I've helped guide the company through some of the most pivotal moments in crypto, from Ethereum's transition to proof-of-stake and two Bitcoin halvings, to our custom ASIC collaboration with Intel and, most recently, our expansion into AI and high-performance computing. It's been a dynamic and rewarding journey, and one that's just getting started. With about 50% of BTC mining companies utilizing renewable energy which are often the cheapest source of electricity, tell us about the advantages, the types of green energies the company utilizes and where the company's data centers are located? Sustainability has been at the core of...

AP correspondent Julie Walker reports on reverse migration, African Americans relocating to Kenya.
“Spooky” is a rarity in 1960s pop tunes, because it charted on the Billboard Hot 100 three times in a dozen years with renditions by three different groups. The song began life as an instrumental. With Harry Middlebrooks Jr., Atlanta saxophonist Mike Sharpe (Shapiro) wrote the song and made the 1967 pop charts with it in the U.S. and Canada.Enter The Classics IVBut the song is much better known as a vocal by The Classic IV, whose James Cobb and producer Buddy Buie added lyrics about that “spooky little girl like you.” It was their band's first big hit, charting in February 1968, No. 3 in the U.S. and No. 1 in Canada. The group had begun five years earlier in Jacksonville, Fla., as a cover band, playing Ventures numbers and instrumental takes on “Misty” and “Summertime.” After a while, fans started requesting vocals.“I can sing,” said one of the founders, drummer Dennis Yost, and that led to a whole new chapter in the group's story.Relocating to Atlanta in the mid-'60s, The Classics IV landed a contract with Imperial Records. A trio of hit records followed, each with one-word titles, “Spooky,” then “Stormy” and “Traces,” all of which have since become popular cover standards. The Third Charting“Spooky” hit the charts for the third time in 1979 when J.R. Cobb and bandmate Dean Daughtry left The Classics IV to be part of the Southern rock band Atlanta Rhythm Section. There Cobb and Daughtry helped ARS record “Spooky,” again with production assistance by Buie. It was the second of two singles released from Underdog, the group's 8th studio album. ARS's version of the song hit No. 17 in the US on Billboard and No. 15 on Cash Box.Gender BendingBut a decade before the ARS recording came Dusty Springfield's 1968 version of “Spooky.”Released as a single worldwide except in the U.S., this gender-flipped version was featured prominently in Guy Ritchie's 1998 film, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Springfield's take on the tune was certified gold in 2024.There were at least two other gender-bender versions. Lydia Lunch sang of a “spooky little boy” when she included the song on her 1980 Queen of Siam album; Martha Reeves inserted a similar rendering on her In the Midnight Hour album in 1986. The latter is especially fun. In her version, Martha also swapped the line "spooky little girl like you" line with "spooky old lady like me.”Floodifying ItThis song was born at jam sessions, with an infectious rhythm and a couple of funky chords that invite all kinds of improvisation, making it a fine fit for The Flood. It's the latest tune that Randy Hamilton and Danny have brought to the band room, complete with those Classics IV lyrics. Here's a take from last week's rehearsal. This is a public episode. If you would like to discuss this with other subscribers or get access to bonus episodes, visit 1937flood.substack.com

We're celebrating the 50th anniversary of Jaws by looking back at Spielberg's genre-defining original and its progressively wilder sequels. A quartet of films that not only redefined summer horror but also played a pivotal role in shaping contemporary fears of the ocean, the Jaws franchise embraced genre hybridity, influenced public perception of sharks, and contributed to the rise of the summer blockbuster. But are there other reasons that explain the original film's enduring cultural relevance? We're diving in today with spoilers, so stay tuned!ReferencesCaputi, Jane E. "Jaws as Patriarchal Myth." This episode of Cider Chat, was recorded in person with Abram Goldman-Armstrong at CiderCon2025 in Chicago. Hear his journey to cider. From growing up in Oregon's Yamhill County to his current work in Norway's Hardanger region at Alde Sider. Abram began fermenting cider as a student in Minnesota and went on to found the cidery known as Cider Riot in Portland, Oregon. His experience reflects both the evolution of the cider industry and the challenges of building a business grounded in values and community. The Cider Riot Years Cider Riot grew from a home cider making project into a well-regarded cider brand and pub. Abram describes building the business, navigating challenges like rising rent and market shifts, and the significance of Cider Riot as a political and cultural hub. The pub hosted community meetings, union organizers, and events that reflected Portland's activist spirit. Standing Against Far-Right Violence On May 1, 2019, Cider Riot became the site of a violent confrontation when members of the far-right group Patriot Prayer, led by Joey Gibson, clashed with patrons during a May Day celebration. The altercation resulted in injuries, including a woman being knocked unconscious. Abram filed a $1 million lawsuit against Gibson and others involved, alleging that they had instigated the attack. The incident drew national attention and highlighted the challenges faced by businesses taking a stand against hate groups. Relocating to Norway After Cider Riot closed in late 2019, Abram accepted an offer to collaborate with cider makers in Norway. He began working with a small brewery before moving west to Hardanger, where he now produces cider at Alde Sider. The region has a long history of apple growing and is the first in Norway to receive a protected designation for cider. In this Cider Chat Early influences in Oregon: Working with Alan Foster of White Oak Cider, planting bittersweet varieties like Kingston Black. DIY beginnings: Making cider in college using apples from the dining hall and a cheese grater. Founding Cider Riot: From garage startup to a full-scale cidery and pub in Portland, Oregon. Pub culture & Portland community: Supporting labor organizing, queer and trans spaces, and anti-fascist events. Financial challenges: Draft-focused sales model, missed retail opportunities, and the impact of hard seltzers. Closure of Cider Riot: Reflections on its cultural significance and decision to shut down in 2019. Move to Norway: Invited to launch a cider program with a brewery in Sandefjord, leading to Tall Ship Cider. Transition to Alde Sider: Current role as lead cider maker in Hardanger, Norway's key cider region. Hardanger cider traditions: Protected cider designation and historic use of apples like Gravenstein and Discovery. Production methods at Alde: Use of Nottingham ale yeast Chaptalization with Danish beet sugar High-acid juice (~pH 3.1–3.2) Residual sweetness target of 1.003 SG Crossflow filtration to halt fermentation Barrel aging program: Experiments with French agricole rum and Norwegian whiskey barrels. Community cider scene: Five producers in the village of Nå, collaboration across the fjord, and cider tourism via fjord boat. Cultural observations: Comparing pub cultures, lifestyle differences between Norway and Portland. Low-ABV cider innovation: Creating a 4.7% cider for draft sales in collaboration with 7 Fjell Brewery. Use of wild yeast: Petnat-style experiment using orchard yeast and natural inoculation. Future plans: Continuing to explore cider styles in Norway, working with bittersweets, and developing new blends. Self-sufficiency and discipline are hallmarks of Johnson's persona, ingrained early in his life by his hard-working and devoted parents. Growing up a “latchkey kid” while his parents worked, Johnson learned to cook and take care of himself, while navigating the streets of Manhattan on his own. His parents' hard work paid off, and they moved their family to Wyandach, a suburb on Long Island, known equally for its less-than-stellar public schools and the exceptional artists and athletes it turned out. At times tempted to rebel, Johnson was set straight both by his parents, and his elders in the neighborhood, who took it upon themselves to keep an eye on the neighborhood kids. After graduating high school, Johnson embarked on a college career at the University of Connecticut. He soon began to see his college classmates graduating and returning home to their parents. For Johnson, this was an unacceptable and unfathomable future, and during his second year of college, he altered course. It was a pivotal decision for the young man, and one that would shape the rest of his adult life. Relocating to New Jersey, Johnson began working in the custom furniture business, a trade he'd learned in his teen years from an uncle. Over the next few years, Johnson honed his craft and at 27, began his own custom furniture business, living in New Jersey and working in Manhattan. It was during this time that he began to cultivate a passion for cooking. He began to consider a future in the catering industry.
