Self-sufficiency and discipline are hallmarks of Johnson's persona, ingrained early in his life by his hard-working and devoted parents. Growing up a “latchkey kid” while his parents worked, Johnson learned to cook and take care of himself, while navigating the streets of Manhattan on his own. His parents' hard work paid off, and they moved their family to Wyandach, a suburb on Long Island, known equally for its less-than-stellar public schools and the exceptional artists and athletes it turned out. At times tempted to rebel, Johnson was set straight both by his parents, and his elders in the neighborhood, who took it upon themselves to keep an eye on the neighborhood kids. After graduating high school, Johnson embarked on a college career at the University of Connecticut. He soon began to see his college classmates graduating and returning home to their parents. For Johnson, this was an unacceptable and unfathomable future, and during his second year of college, he altered course. It was a pivotal decision for the young man, and one that would shape the rest of his adult life. Relocating to New Jersey, Johnson began working in the custom furniture business, a trade he'd learned in his teen years from an uncle. Over the next few years, Johnson honed his craft and at 27, began his own custom furniture business, living in New Jersey and working in Manhattan. It was during this time that he began to cultivate a passion for cooking. He began to consider a future in the catering industry.

Watch Off the Bench Presented by UDF with Chatterbox Sports Monday-Friday 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. LIVE on the Chatterbox Sports YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE to the channel to ensure you never miss a thing. The Cincinnati Reds are currently mired in a frustrating three-game losing streak as of April 4, 2025, with each defeat coming by an identical score of 1-0. This skid, which follows a promising 14-3 victory over the Texas Rangers on March 31, has dropped the Reds to a 2-4 record early in the 2025 season. What makes this stretch particularly remarkable—and historically rare—is that it marks only the second time since 1920 that a Major League Baseball team has lost three consecutive games by a 1-0 margin, underscoring both the brilliance of Cincinnati's pitching and the utter collapse of its offense. The Reds' pitching staff has been nothing short of exceptional during this trio of losses. Across the three games—against the Rangers on April 1 and the San Francisco Giants on April 2 and 3—Reds hurlers have allowed just 12 hits and three runs, with starters like Nathan Eovaldi and Carson Spiers delivering standout performances. Eovaldi, for instance, tossed a complete-game shutout on April 1, only to see his effort wasted by a silent lineup. The bullpen has been equally stingy, keeping opponents in check but unable to secure a win due to a lack of run support. This level of pitching dominance should have Cincinnati sitting pretty, yet the team finds itself on the wrong end of history. Offensively, the Reds have hit rock bottom. After erupting for 14 runs in their series opener against Texas, they've been shut out for 27 straight innings, managing a meager nine hits while striking out 27 times over the three losses. Stars like Elly De La Cruz and Matt McLain, who powered the early-season surge, have gone cold, leaving manager Terry Francona scratching his head. “We'll figure it out together,” Francona said postgame, a sentiment that reflects both optimism and urgency. The bats, which showed such promise, have vanished at a critical juncture. This streak isn't just a statistical anomaly; it's a wake-up call. While the Reds can't clinch a playoff spot in April, they can certainly dig themselves a hole. With a tough four-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers starting today, Cincinnati's offense must awaken fast—or risk letting stellar pitching go to waste in a season that began with postseason aspirations. Baseball's unpredictability is on full display, and for Reds fans, patience is being tested early

As a CEO and Founder at Intercare Recruitment, she specializes in matching top-tier healthcare professionals with leading medical institutions, ensuring that both clients and candidates find the perfect fit.Episode Outline and Highlights[01:53] From Poland, the UK, Dubai, and the US - Carolina's recruitment journey.[07:27] The mindset that helped Karolina be successful in a short space of time.[10:16] How to generate candidates by organizing events.[13:39] The initial challenges of going solo and starting a recruitment business. [28:02] Relocating to Florida, relaunching their business, and overcoming a breaking point.[37:23] How Karolina approached the market differently in the US.[40:34] Key differentiators as a boutique company.[46:30] Strategies for growing her team.[51:59] Overcoming the recruiter paradox - how to identify potential members of your recruitment firm.[57:35] What would Karolina have done differently when looking back at her career?Overcoming a Breaking Point and the Challenges of Launching a Boutique FirmKarolina excelled quickly in her first recruitment role in the UK with the NHS, which became a solid foundation for her when she launched Intercare Recruitment in Dubai. Like many recruiters who aspire to build their business, she faced initial struggles and challenges along the way.Karolina faced significant challenges when launching her recruitment firm in Dubai. Although finding candidates was relatively easy due to her strong existing network, the complexities of navigating healthcare regulations and business development were major hurdles. Karolina and her husband had to secure clients from scratch. Their strategy involved relentless, in-person business development—visiting hospitals unannounced, persistently requesting meetings with HR directors and CEOs. Despite initial rejections, her research-driven approach, industry connections, and sheer determination eventually led to success, with her 13th hospital visit yielding their first major contract. However, cash flow management became another major struggle, as collecting payments from clients was a slow and challenging process. The legal system in the UAE made it difficult to enforce contracts, ultimately influencing her decision to explore opportunities outside the Middle East. When she moved to the US, the true breaking point came in 2022 when, after years of working for others, Karolina could no longer ignore her entrepreneurial drive. She had gained the necessary industry knowledge and confidence, but stepping away from the security of a full-time job was a daunting decision, especially as a mother of two young children with a mortgage to maintain. Despite the fear and financial pressure, she knew she had relaunched Intercare. With the unwavering support of her husband, she leaped, marking the start of Intercare's second chapter in the U.S.Building Key Differentiators as a Boutique FirmI wanted to focus on Intercare Recruitment's unique approach to providing the best solutions for its clients. Their service offering is retained and involves recruiting nurses internationally. “So what I call ourselves, we are kind of boutique companies, small, quality-focused, concierge type agencies. We really go beyond with our services. We really get on side with our clients. Here are some of their differentiators:International Nurse Recruitment Expertise – They have an extensive referral-based network in the Philippines and partnerships with nursing schools, allowing them to source top-tier talent efficiently.Comprehensive Candidate Support – Unlike most agencies, they assist candidates beyond job placement, handling immigration, flights, onboarding, Social Security, and even driving licenses to ensure a smooth transition.Nurse-Led Recruitment Team – Their recruiters are former nurses, which helps build trust with candidates and ensures a deeper understanding of the industry's needs.Retained, Upfront Payment Model – Instead of working on contingency, Intercare secures exclusive, retained contracts where clients pay upfront, covering immigration costs and reducing hiring risks.Extended Guarantee Period – They offer a 12-month guarantee, which is longer than industry standards, ensuring clients have long-term confidence in their hires.End-to-End Immigration Management – They fully integrate legal and immigration services into their process, partnering with immigration attorneys to handle all necessary paperwork. What are your key differentiators as a recruitment firm? How do you stand out from the competition? The key to getting retained clients is to show a unique solution that solves your client's problems that they can't get anywhere else.Overcoming the Recruiter's Paradox - Finding the Right Member of Your TeamKarolina shared best practices in her approach to building her team. She has now expanded to 10 members - 5 in the US, 5 in the Philippines. This growth allowed her to grow her revenue from $5K/month to $300K/month in six months! What are her key techniques in finding great team members?“I see people's motivation and ambition rather than skills. You can teach skills, but you cannot teach attitude.” Aside from doing a DISC assessment, they invest time in researching the candidate, from social media, LinkedIn, and conducting three to four steps interviews.Once the team member gets hired, they focus on empowering and coaching them. Extensive training and tools for recruiters are provided while providing all the support needed for them to succeed. Episode #322: Hector and Dr. Paing's story is a testament to determination in the face of overwhelming challenges. Following the 2021 military coup in Myanmar, they left their medical careers to provide care in conflict-ridden Karenni State. Initially strangers to the region, they overcame deep mistrust from the Karenni community, who equated their Bamar origins with oppression. By establishing clinics and proving their commitment, they slowly earned the enduring trust of the Karenni people.Their work is fraught with dangers, from bombings that destroyed their first hospital to relentless drone surveillance. Relocating to the jungle, they constructed a makeshift hospital, gradually upgrading its facilities despite limited resources. Secrecy is vital to protect patients and staff from military airstrikes. Supplies often need to be sourced through unreliable channels, while electricity and water remain scarce. Internet access only became feasible in 2023 with the arrival of Starlink. Their mission exposes them to the horrors of war: landmines, airstrikes, and suicide drones inflict devastating injuries, leaving physical and emotional scars. Both staff and civilians grappled with PTSD and depression, yet they find hope through communal resilience and shared moments of joy in improvised celebrations.Despite limited funding and volunteer burnout, Hector and Dr. Paing continue, driven by the belief that health is a universal right. They have become builders, fundraisers, and documentarians, collecting data to ensure future accountability and systemic improvements. Their transformation over three years reflects their deep commitment to a better future for Myanmar. As Dr. Paing states, “Please, don't be trapped under the policy. Do what you can do urgently and immediately. Health is the human family, and health is peace.” Their story stands as a call to action and a symbol of unwavering dedication to humanity amid conflict.

Episode Notes S6E10 - Join us as we sit down with the one and only Laura Pursell. She'll be telling us tales from acting to singing her hits and much much more. Her nostalgic, lush and heartfelt voice, Laura Pursell's smooth west coast vocals are backed by the genius of her famous father Bill Pursell, who wrote 8 out of 10 arrangements and played piano on all 10 tracks. The rich orchestration, recorded by Nashville's A-team players. Mr. Pursell is perhaps best known for his hit record "Our Winter Love," but also played piano on many of Johnny Cash's albums in the 1960s, and worked as a session musician and arranger for Patsy Cline, Johnny Paycheck, Hoover, Joan Baez, Eric Andersen, Scotty Moore, J.J. Cale, Willie Nelson, Dan Fogelberg, and others. In 1985, Pursell was named Composer of the Year by the Tennessee Music Teachers Association. At 18, she was cast as Dick Van Patton's niece in a nationally televised Christmas special, “The Gift of Song”, starring a host of country music stars. Relocating to LA in the early 90's, she studied at the South Coast Repertory and Beverly Hills Playhouse and has starred in countless stage productions all over LA, including "Blue Moon Dancing" by Ed Graczyk, "In the City for the Summer" (Variety singled out her gritty performance), and the farcical, outrageous "And Then There was Nun" which played to sold out houses for 2 extensions, where she did a hilarious sendup of Gloria Swanson. She was a long time member of the Company of Angels, LA's oldest repertory theatre, winning a Dramalogue Award for her saucy, sword-wielding performance in the mainstage production of “Zastrozzi”. She appeared in an iconic video for Weird Al Yankovic, spoofing Tanya Harding in the "Mmmm Mmmm" song (where she did her own figure skating). She appeared in several episodes of "Days of Our Lives" and had a small but pivotal role in "The Landlady" starring Talia Shire. In 2013, she was cast as one of the three leads in a hilarious coming-of-middle-age web series called "Living the Dream", and in 2015, she had the starring role in "Only the Moon Howls", a moving one act which won the Encore! Award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her performance was singled out for its "deep emotional access" and hailed as "heartbreaking", "truthful", "sensitive" and "vulnerable". A film version of the piece is planned for late 2015. In 2001, she landed a plum role, singing for Betty and President Gerald Ford in Palm Springs. Over the years, she has recorded and performed with some of the greatest jazz musicians on the west coast. She has performed in St. Petersburg, Russia, Dublin Ireland and in west coast venues such as Spazio, Vitello's, The Money Tree, Barone's, Monteleone's, The San Ysidro Ranch (Santa Barbara), Vicky's of Santa Fe (Palm Springs) and the Canyon Club. She appeared with Gary Tole's "Legends of Swing" orchestra and the Doug MacDonald's 13-piece "Jazz Coalition". She currently performs every Thursday at Mixology 101 in the Grove at the LA Farmer's Market with a stellar jazz trio. In this captivating episode of The Wandering Pilgrims, we journey back to the tumultuous 17th century to uncover the inspiring life of Benjamin Keach, a pivotal figure in religious history. Born on February 29, 1640, in Stoke Hammond, England, Keach's early years were shaped by the fervent faith of his family and the chaotic backdrop of the English Civil Wars. At just 15, a profound conversion ignited his passion for preaching, leading him to share his convictions in Winslow. As the political landscape shifted with the restoration of the monarchy, Keach faced severe persecution for his nonconformist beliefs, notably after publishing the revolutionary children's catechism, The Child's Instructor. His arrest marked a significant moment, but rather than retreating, Keach boldly preached from the pillory, exemplifying his unwavering commitment to his faith. Amidst the broader European upheaval, Keach's resilience and courage shone brightly.Relocating to London in 1668, Keach became a pastor in Southwark, where he introduced congregational hymn singing into Baptist worship—an act that sparked intense debates yet ultimately transformed worship practices. His prolific writing, including influential works like Tropologia and Exposition of the Parables, made complex theological concepts accessible to the ordinary believer, emphasizing practical applications of faith.Join us as we explore Keach's enduring legacy, from his contributions to hymnody to his role in the adoption of the Second London Baptist Confession of Faith. His life not only reflects the challenges of his time but also serves as a testament to the power of conviction and the impact one individual can have across generations. As we navigate through Keach's remarkable journey, we gain insight into the resilience required to uphold one's beliefs amidst adversity.Support our mission:▪️ Buy Me a Coffee: buymeacoffee.com/wanderingpilgrims▪️ Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/TheWanderingPilgrims▪️ Shop: https://shop.thewanderingpilgrims.com/▪️ Our Website: www.thewanderingpilgrims.comConnect with us here:▪️ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewanderingpilgrims/▪️ Facebook: https://m.facebook.com/The-Wandering-Pilgrims-581206039071736/

Additionally, three more Israeli hostages are expected to be freed this Saturday. In his first week as president, Trump took swift action, halting $50 million in unaccounted aid to Gaza, signing an order to deport pro-Hamas activists, and inviting Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu to the White House. He's also pushing a plan to relocate Gazan refugees and has sent his Middle East envoy into Gaza to address the crisis. In Israel, the Knesset is advancing legislation to allow Israeli citizens to purchase land in Judea and Samaria, potentially reshaping the way Israel governs the biblical heartland. Stay tuned for more updates on these critical developments. When you play hide and seek, as you do on a regular basis I'm sure, and you count to ten before shouting, "Ready or not, here I come," how do you keep track of time? Is it a clock in your brain, as many neuroscientists assume and therefore search for in their research? Or is it something else? Maybe the rhythm of your vocalization as you say, "one-one thousand, two-one thousand"? Even if you're counting silently, could it be that you're imagining the movements of speaking aloud and tracking those virtual actions? My guest today, neuroscientist David Robbe, believes we don't rely on clocks in our brains, or measure time internally, or really that we measure time at all. Rather, our estimation of time emerges through our interactions with the world around us and/or the world within us as we behave. David is group leader of the Cortical-Basal Ganglia Circuits and Behavior Lab at the Institute of Mediterranean Neurobiology. His perspective on how organisms measure time is the result of his own behavioral experiments with rodents, and by revisiting one of his favorite philosophers, Henri Bergson. So in this episode, we discuss how all of this came about - how neuroscientists have long searched for brain activity that measures or keeps track of time in areas like the basal ganglia, which is the brain region David focuses on, how the rodents he studies behave in surprising ways when he asks them to estimate time intervals, and how Bergson introduce the world to the notion of durée, our lived experience and feeling of time.
