The Government's signalling more visa changes could be on the way to encourage overseas travellers. There's been a loosening of visa settings, allowing tourists on holiday here for up to nine months to work remotely for an overseas employer. Tourism Minister Louise Upston says the tourism sector continues to fall short of pre-pandemic visitor numbers. She told Mike Hosking they're looking at how to make New Zealand an easier place to visit, including reviewing the visa rules. Upston says the changes have to be balanced by risk, but people want to know if they apply to come here, that they'll likely get in. The Tourism Minister says the change will attract digital nomads and is part of the ongoing work to get tourism numbers back to pre-pandemic levels. She Hosking Australia will be her initial focus, as it's very easy for Australians to come visit. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Tourists in Aotearoa on the visitor visa will soon be able to work remotely while here. The change is targeting 'digital nomads', people employed by overseas companies here to holiday and work at the same time, in the hope they will spend more time and money in the country. Tourism is currently New Zealand's second largest export and the latest visitor numbers from Stats NZ show in November 2024 we reached 86% of pre-Covid levels. Chief Executive of the Tourism Export Council Lynda Keene welcomes the move, saying it will help get us closer to pre-Covid numbers, but more should have been done sooner. Since the pandemic, many of us have shifted our workspace to our home. Remote work is on the rise due to the increased flexibility and productivity it brings. Although there are many benefits to working remotely, there are also increased health risks that we need to be aware of. When working remotely, there is no longer a clear boundary between work and home like there is when working at an office. We are also more likely to experience prolonged sitting, increased screen time, and increased sedentary lifestyle – all of which can compromise physical, mental, and emotional health. In this episode of the Mind Your Health Podcast, Dr. Connie discusses the importance of being mindful of how working at home influences your physical body and your mind, and what you can do to decrease the health risks associated with working remotely. In this episode, you'll discover:
CRISTINA GÓMEZ PRADA is the Chief Operating Officer at Hanzo Studio in Madrid, Spain. Before the pandemic, Hanzo was a small team of about 20 people who worked as a remote-first team from the beginning. And... they allowed everyone to come into the office if they wanted to. During the pandemic, the team doubled in size... remotely. And now, the office is available for all those who need it - and they are expanding internationally. In this interview, we discuss why Hanzo decided to go remote-first, what's working, and what remains challenging. I lived in Barcelona for two years. One reason why Spain is a great place to visit is its affordability, as highlighted by a three-course meal with wine for only 10 euros. But that's not the only thing that makes Spain a wonderful country. Its diverse culture, rich history, and breathtaking landscapes are just some of the many reasons to explore this beautiful country. However, beyond all that, what truly makes Spain a special place is its people. Today on "Get Paid for Your Pad," I have two guests, Juanccho Betancor and JuanJo Bande, from Spain. Juanccho Betancor is a Legends X graduate and successful short-term rental host. He began his journey by renting out several properties and later transitioned to Airbnb. In addition to hosting, Juan is passionate about analyzing investments in the space and sharing his experiences with others. He even has his own YouTube channel where he talks about all things short-term rental. JuanJo Bande is an architect who is passionate about the short-term rental industry. He works on developing various projects that cater to both tourism and residential areas. Apart from that, he creates valuable content in Spanish about the short-term rental space on YouTube. He also manages a few professional chat groups where like-minded people in the Spanish-speaking world can share their knowledge and experiences. They join me to discuss their experiences in the short-term rental industry, what they've learned from building their businesses, and their insights on why Spain is an amazing country to visit. Listen in to hear how they've adapted to serve the post covid digital nomads, the lack of quality content on the short-term rental space in Spanish, and how they aim to provide education and quality content to the Spanish-speaking audience. Plus, they share what they would do differently if they were starting their business today and their predictions for the future of the STR industry.Topics Covered How Juan and Paco got started in the STR industryHow to be on the beach in Panama when you have 28 units back in SpainHow they invested in themselves to grow their businessesThe most significant things they've learned from Jasper, Get Paid Your Pad, and Legends XHow mindset makes a big difference in successWhat does it take in 2023 to be successful as an STR hostWhat the STR industry looks like in the futureWhy it's best to look beyond the short-term profits and instead consider long-term profitability For full episode show notes visit: https://getpaidforyourpad.com/podcast/work-remotely-from-a-cave-home-on-a-volcano-ep548/ Hosted on Acast.
