Hello friends! I hope you have a very happy and safe new year. Austin treasure, Nanette Labastida is my guest for episode 1344! Nanette is a realtor here in Austin, but in the late 80's and early 90's, she was an Austin music influencer, and was out every night seeing music and being part of this music scene. She was such an integral part of the scene that she's interviewed in the new book, A Curious Mix of People: The Underground Scene of 90's Austin. I've been friends with Nanette for years and I have always loved her perspective on things. We have a great conversation about living in the U.K. as a teen, the magic of The 311 Club, Stevie Ray Vaughan Live at Steamboat, our friend Robin Sullivan, The Hole in the Wall, the magic of music, the time in life when music means everything, and much more. I had a blast hanging with Nanette and I learned a lot. Happy new year! Find millions of songs and thousands of podcasts, AND audiobooks on Spotify. If you feel so inclined. This episode is part 2 of our discussion around racism, discrimination, and understanding our role as leaders in the middle of all that’s happening. For this discussion I welcome 2 of our community members, and african american female leaders - Felicia Yvette and Robin Sullivan. I’m also joined by a good friend of mine, Dr. Sundiata Soon-jahta… an anti-oppression activist, authentic dialogue facilitator. During the episode we have a very open and honest discussion around the topics of racism, discrimination, the role that systems play in creating these issues, and specific advice for white women and men looking to do a better job of leading teams with people of color. Regardless of what side of this issue you fall on, I think you’ll find this discussion incredibly enlightening and impactful. If you are someone that is truly looking for some clarity and action steps you can take to become a part of the solution to all of this, this is a can’t miss episode for you.
