Eddie Deezen has appeared or done voicework in almost 100 movies and tv shows, and he has worked with some of the most legendary actors of all time. He joins me to talk about his youth in Maryland, growing up watching TV, his first trip to NYC, and being fresh-faced, naive young lad in LA. He tells me about seeing Monkey Business on the big screen, how made Steven Spielberg laugh, and how a dollar changed the course of his life. And, of course, we talk about The Beatles. Brought to you in partnership with Scarlet Lane Brewing, the Official Beer of Horror! Find out more about Eddie here: IMDB Facebook
This week Ryan chats with brewer, comic fan, and friend of the pod, Glorious screenwriter, Joshua Hull. They talk indie horror, screenwriting, comics, beer, and so much more. “Horror is emblematic of everything we're doing and feeling, but it gives us the safe space to discuss it.”Spooky season is upon us, and today we're talking with two brewers for whom spooky season lasts the entire year. Eilise Lane is the founder and head brewer at Scarlet Lane Brewing Company in Indiana. As you'll hear in the interview, Eilise is obsessed with horror movies and literature, and books in general, and uses Scarlet Lane to celebrate all things macabre. Josh Hull is a brewer at Scarlet Lane who is also a screenwriter and filmmaker. His new horror comedy Glorious is available for streaming now on Shudder. The three of us discuss our love for horror and how that theme gets celebrated in fun ways at Scarlet Lane, how Eilise comes up with the ideas for her beers, and Josh's process for writing the grimy but delightful cosmic horror movie Glorious.Scarlet Lane beers discussed in this episode include Dorian Espresso Stout and its variants, Sammy Terry Kölsch, and Glorious Cosmic Ale. Horror movies discussed in this episode include Scream, Aliens, Halloween, Dracula, Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, Wuthering Heights, The Picture of Dorian Gray, Anna and the Apocalypse, Jaws, Tremors, Deep Blue Sea, Midsommar, Nope, Prey, Hard Candy, and of course Glorious. You can check out Glorious on Shudder with a subscription or free trial. The music for this episode is from the song “200 Miles” by my dear friend, indie folk musician Anna ps. You can find out more about Anna's music in the show notes or at her website annapsmusic.com, where you can also get in touch to book her to play at your brewery, cafe, or other establishment.
This is our first episode back after our fraught pre-election episode. It's been a confusing anxiety filled month as our current president refuses to acknowledge that he lost the election. He lost bigly. But we're finally back with an episode full of confusing jokes and poorly done accents. We're talking about Cole Haans and Hush Puppies in followup (trademark John Siracusa) then it's on to talking about RSI issues. Steve's been having a lot. While looking for a new office chair, Steve found some humorous questions and answers on Amazon's site (Dustin doesn't find them amusing at all). We also talk about squishy things to pillow the wrist while using a keyboard and mouse and standing desk converters. Then we talk about bad SEO advice and Parler (and you thought we were done with the political talk in the opener... somebody please end it). Also, Dustin talks about his Santa sessions and Steve mentions his frustrations with Pixifi (which isn't as good as hornybook which is a software that will get you there, according to Dustin). We also spend a long time talking about the M1 chips and the new iPhone's camera (primarily as a result of Josh Wither's fantastic blog post). Beer Talk: Dustin - H 2 O (it's not a beer, he's drinking water because he's sick) Steve - Eirik Bloodaxe by Scarlet Lane Brewing (it is a beer, he's drinking beer despite being sick because he's an idiot) Our recording went super long, so we're breaking Q&A up into a separate episode which will air next week. Links: The Generic Wrist Rest for keyboard and mouse. The Ergonomic Chair by Serta for sitting. The Standing Desk Converter by VIVO for turning your normal desk into a standing one! The iPhone 12 Pro Max that everyone isn't really talking that much about. New Apple M1 Chip in MacBook Pro Protective Case. New Apple M1 Chip in MacBook Air Protective Case. Nutcracker for MacBook Protective Cases so you can get that sweet M1 Chip out (Christmas Edition). Episode Art by Rebecca Elliot of Sunnybrook Photo.
