In this intimate and inspiring conversation, Anna talks with award-winning ceramic artist Hannie Goldgewicht, whose work blends wheel-thrown pottery with pine-needle basketry — a unique hybrid rooted in her Costa Rican upbringing, her travels throughout Latin America and beyond, and her lifelong devotion to handmade craft.Hannie's creative journey began in childhood, learning soldering and jewelry-making from her mother, experimenting with every medium imaginable, and eventually studying sculpture at the Universidad de Costa Rica with honors. She later traveled the world, apprenticed with master artists, and built a career that has earned her multiple Best in Show awards, features in American Craft Council Magazine, and an invitation to the prestigious Cheongju International Craft Biennale in Korea.Alongside her husband and creative partner, artist and model-maker Leo Gotlibowski, Hannie has also created life-size sculptures for the Costa Rican Pre-Columbian Gold Museum — work that is now on permanent display. In this episode, we explore:• Hannie's lifelong relationship with clay — and why ceramics remains her creative home• The grounding, meditative, deeply human qualities of handmade craft• How she balances being both an artist and a business owner• The surprising ways creativity shows up in the business side of her work• What it takes to stay committed through the “messy middle” — the long uncertain stretch all artists face• How Hannie navigated doubts, pivots, and experimentation in her early career• Her practices for returning to curiosity when inspiration feels far away• The importance of patience, devotion, and staying close to the materials you loveThis is a conversation about art, but it's also a conversation about resilience, craft, and what it means to build a life anchored in creativity over the long term. The Giants can chase Kenny Moore as a veteran defensive back who could help a secondary with real question marks, but the sacrifice is obvious: if he wanted out of Indianapolis because of man coverage, New York may be looking at a player who does not match what this defense wants to be. Is adding talent worth it if the fit might be wrong from the start?Follow the show on Spotify and leave a 5-star rating and review on Apple Podcasts if you enjoy the Giants debates, roster breakdowns, and no-BS fan reactions.Drew breaks down the Giants cutting four players before rookie minicamp: Elijah Chatman, Swayze Bozeman, Courtney Jackson, and Marlon Tuipulotu. The moves are not shocking, but they do matter as the roster starts making room for draft picks, undrafted rookies, tryout players, and the next wave of offseason competition. Chatman had become a fan favorite because of his effort, but the Giants have added more proven defensive line bodies. Bozeman was mainly a special teams piece, Jackson was buried in the wide receiver room, and Tuipulotu was another defensive line depth option in a crowded group.Rookie minicamp also gets discussed, with the reminder that this is the time of year where hype can get out of control fast. Drew talks about which young players actually matter more when camp reports start coming out, including Arvell Reese, C.C. Maunoa, Colton Hood, and Malachi Fields, while warning Giants fans not to overreact to every undrafted rookie headline.Jameis Winston also somehow becomes part of the show after being named a FOX Sports correspondent for the FIFA World Cup. Drew may not be a soccer guy, but Jameis with a microphone is almost guaranteed to produce clips worth watching. That leads to a classic Goofballs detour into Best in Show, Fred Willard, Stifler's mom, and why Winston might have a long media career once football is done. The main debate centers on Kenny Moore after the Colts cut the former Pro Bowl corner. Moore is 30 years old, has years of production, can play mostly in the slot, has taken some outside and safety snaps, and still brings impressive run-defense value for a smaller defensive back. The argument for the Giants is simple: the secondary needs help, and Moore's versatility could give them another veteran option in a room with Paulson Adebo, Deonte Banks, Colton Hood, Greg Newsome, Drew Phillips, Javon Holland, and Tyler Nubin all carrying different levels of uncertainty. But the concern is just as real. If Moore's issue in Indianapolis was tied to Lou Anarumo's man-coverage scheme, then why would he be a clean fit for a Giants defense expected to play plenty of press-man coverage? Drew walks through both sides: maybe the Giants could sell him on a bigger role as a slot/safety hybrid, or maybe the scheme fit makes the whole thing a bad idea before it even starts. The bottom line is that the Giants should at least have the conversation. The episode closes with live chat questions on the Giants' run defense, whether the new defensive line room can make up for losing Dexter Lawrence, Arvell Reese and Tremaine Edmunds changing the linebacker picture, Ladarius Sneed, Christian Wilkins, Kevin Zeitler, Evan Neal's roster chances, John Michael Schmitz, and which players might benefit most from the new coaching staff.Question for Giants fans: would you take a shot on Kenny Moore, or stay away if the man-coverage concern is real?Merch: https://2giantgoofballs-shop.fourthwall.com/Support: https://buymeacoffee.com/2giantgoofballsAll episodes: https://2giantgoofbalSend us Fan MailSupport the show

The Boxer is one of the most recognizable breeds in the world. It currently ranks among the top twenty in AKC registrations and has held that position for decades. It became a cultural fixture in the 1950s when a Boxer named Bang Away — the great-great-grandson of dogs that a German breeder had sold abroad to prevent them from starving in wartime — won Best in Show at Westminster and became the first dog of any breed to achieve 121 Best in Show wins. That story goes deeper than most people know. The Boxer's path from a medieval hunting dog in Germany to the dog in your living room passes through one of the most remarkable figures in the history of any breed: Friederun von Miran-Stockmann, a sculptor who fell in love with a Boxer named Pluto and spent sixty years keeping the breed alive through two World Wars, Nazi interference, near-starvation, and the loss of dog after dog to combat. She fed her remaining dogs by cycling miles to source cow intestines and rummaging in military dumpsters. When she could no longer sustain them, she sold her best dogs to America. They became the genetic foundation of every Boxer alive today. The Boxer is no longer primarily a working dog in the way it once was. The German Shepherd and Belgian Malinois have largely taken over modern police and military roles. But the Boxer remains a working dog in police forces across Europe — particularly in Germany, where the breed originated — and its working drives are fully intact in every dog sitting in a living room anywhere in the world. And inside those working drives, in a significant proportion of the breed, is Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy — ARVC. A hereditary heart condition that replaces normal cardiac muscle with fatty tissue, generates dangerous arrhythmias, and in its most extreme expression causes sudden death with no prior warning. At any age. In dogs that appear completely healthy.

Whether I'm in the market for new gear or not, I like to keep my finger on the pulse of what is new and noteworthy in fly fishing. For a few years The Fly Fishing Show has held the Consumers Choice Awards. While not exhaustive, it does feature that which is often new and that which is somewhat noteworthy. And that alone warrants a few minutes of my time. And I'd wager, based upon your interest in this podcast, my talking about it warrants a few minutes of your time. Today I discuss a handful of the Consumer Choice Awards selections that I think are interesting. It may or may not surprise you that the one I find most intriguing is also the least expensive. Timothy Li, CEO and Co-Founder of LendAPI, has spent nearly a decade trying to solve the same problem: launching a lending product takes too long and costs too much. With LendAPI, he's built a no-code platform that lets banks, credit unions, fintechs, and retailers go from idea to live lending product in weeks, not months or years. Think of it as a GoDaddy-style experience for financial services. Timothy joined me again on the show (he was last on in 2017) to talk about what's under the hood, what the Sunglass Hut deal reveals about embedded finance, and where he thinks AI is actually useful in lending today. What We CoveredTimothy's path from the Fluid college credit app to building LendAPIHow the drag-and-drop product builder works for non-technical usersPython model deployment for credit risk officers inside the same platformWinning Best in Show at FinovateThe Sunglass Hut deal and how it came together in three monthsWhy retailers are moving away from pure-play BNPL providersIntegration options: bank cores, side cores, and direct e-commerce embedThe 300-plus partner marketplace and the SEO strategy behind itDoc AI and single-task AI agents for document processing and underwritingTimothy's experience in the CURQL accelerator and how credit unions differTeaching FinTech Fundamentals at USCThe five consumer verticals with the most opportunity in fintechKey TakeawaysThe build vs. buy debate is essentially over. When Timothy talks to bank CTOs today, the conversation is "can you launch this next week?" not "should we build this ourselves?" Speed to market has become the dominant concern.Pure-play BNPL approval rates are outside a retailer's control and can swing 10 points overnight. Private label embedded finance, built on infrastructure like LendAPI, lets retailers and banks own the underwriting criteria and the customer experience, which matters especially for high-ticket items where the financing decision happens in-store.Single-task AI agents are the near-term opportunity in lending, not fully automated credit decisions. Automating document verification, data extraction, and intake workflows saves minutes per application, and at scale, that compounds quickly. The five consumer fintech verticals worth building in: mortgages, auto, credit cards and personal loans, payments, and bank accounts. Phil and Emily are joined by Adam B. Vary to discuss For Your Consideration (2006), Christopher Guest's razor-sharp satire of Hollywood awards campaigns and the strange machinery behind Oscar buzz. As actors, publicists, and studios chase nominations, the film hilariously exposes how quickly hype can spiral into ego, anxiety, and manufactured prestige. This episode also wraps up our brief three-film Christopher Guest 2000s miniseries, looking at how Guest's mockumentary style evolved from Best in Show and A Mighty Wind into one of the most biting Hollywood satires of the decade.Follow the hosts and guestPhil Iscove - Instagram: @pmiscoveEmily St. James - Instagram: @emilystjamsAdam B. This week, Matt sits down with Vinny Roberts, a guy whose story runs deep with family, hard work, and a whole lot of horsepower. Vinny grew up watching his dad fall in love with cars before stepping into a life of honorable service in law enforcement. Meanwhile, young Vinny was spending his days hanging around the local salvage yard—until the day he was gifted his very first car: a '69 Charger. That moment lit a fire that never went out.Matt and Vinny dive into the age‑old truth that every guy has a brand—Ford, Chevy, Mopar—and how those loyalties shape who we are in the garage. Vinny walks through the long list of trades he's picked up over the years: laying paint, pinstriping, turning wrenches as a certified mechanic, even tackling electronics. He's a one‑man shop with the skills to back it up.He shares the story of the Plymouth he'll never let go of, a car built with pieces of his grandmother's memory woven right into it. And then there's the time he rolled into a show full of shiny, high‑dollar builds… and walked away with two awards, including Best in Show.Matt and Vinny get real about the difference between what you see on TV and the realistic goals of building cars in the real world. Vinny also gives us a look at the '57 Plymouth he's crafting for the High Class Trash Invitational, the story behind the rubber duck riding shotgun on his rat rod, and why he loves adding flamethrowers to his builds. The conversation rounds out with the memories made in the shop, on the road, and at local shows—the love‑hate relationship every builder knows too well—and Vinny closes with some solid advice on finding that spark that keeps you going. This episode is all heart, all grit, and all the reasons we keep turning wrenches.Check out what he's working on Facebook and InstagramTHANKS FOR LISTENING!LIKE, SHARE AND DOWNLOAD!www.hotrodhangout.com
WATCH THE EPISODE HEREIn this EpisodeHighlights & “Must-Listen” Moments* 0:00 — Welcome to the live, and a tech hiccup: We start strong (one minute early!) before Amy promptly drops off the call. Welcome to live television, folks.* 2:22 — Big announcement — we're moving to Wednesdays at noon ET: David (Fatty Daddy) is almost 66 and exhausted by late-night shows. Starting next week, Talking with My Mouth Full goes live every Wednesday at 12 noon Eastern. West Coasters, that's 9 a.m. Europeans, we see you, too.* 6:20 — Amy's sourdough report: The Miche: Amy's been baking her way through the King Arthur Big Book of Bread, and this week's loaf was a miche — a classic French whole-grain sourdough, deeply tangy, chewy, and wonderfully moisture-retaining. Her starter is named Lazarus (given to her by a pastry chef at The Alna Store in Maine), and the name fits.* 10:28 — David's food week: Lasagna Bianca and the Coca-Cola Brisket Aftermath: David finally had all the right cheeses (ordered from Caputo's) for his five-cheese lasagna bianca, with handmade noodles rolled to setting 6 or 7 — so thin you can see through them. (Marcella Hazan once wrote him to say that's exactly how it should be done.) He also confesses to eating an entire five-pound Coca-Cola brisket over the course of several days. No regrets.* 10:45 — The L. Reuteri Yogurt Rabbit Hole: Amy has gotten into making homemade yogurt using Lactobacillus reuteri, a culture promoted by Dr. William Davis (Wheat Belly) for its alleged gut-health and serotonin-boosting effects. The evidence: her sister-in-law went from tightly wound to noticeably chill. It's made with half-and-half and is genuinely delicious. Amy's verdict: she may have a delightful personality again.* 15:30 — ADHD confessions: David opens up about struggling to function without The One around — 269 unpublished posts sitting in his website backend, four photos from a shoot last June never uploaded, six holiday videos still in draft. Amy relates: She says she's somewhere on the spectrum, and got into a fight with Scott when she started raking leaves at 1 p.m. for a 2 p.m. departure. (She was ready by 2:05, for the record.) Audience members chimed in to share their own experiences.* 22:10 — Books We Love: Morning Baker by Roxana Jullapat: David shares his excitement about this upcoming baking book (drops April 7th), packed with gorgeous recipes from the author of Mother Grains. Donuts, French toast, and beautiful photography — this one earned a “must have the physical copy.”* 24:46 — Amy's Pick: A Kitchen on Goose Cove by Devin Finigan: Amy recommends this forthcoming cookbook from the chef of Aragosta restaurant in Maine, arriving later in April. The restaurant sits at the edge of an enchanted-forest cove overlooking the bay — and the food is just as stunning.* 27:18 — Amy's current read: Le Road Trip by Vivian Swift: A beautifully illustrated chronicle of a honeymoon road trip through France, with sections on Bordeaux's food and wine scene. Swift is an illustrator and writer, and Amy is captivated by the humanity of the hand-drawn work — especially in an AI-saturated moment.* 29:56 — Dorie's Anytime Cakes and the illustrated cookbook debate: David and Amy discuss the reactions to Dorie's latest book, which uses a photorealistic illustration style. Beautiful graphic design, but some readers found it less effective than photographs. The conversation leads to a broader point: in the age of AI perfection, people are gravitating toward the human, the imperfect, the messy, and real.* 33:20 — Product Spotlight: The Rose Levy Beranbaum Reduction Spatula: David finally retrieved it from the kitchen. It's a ThermoWorks product from her Signature Series — a long spatula with raised measurement markings so you can track a sauce as it reduces right in the pan, no pouring into a measuring cup required. You can also use it to check viscosity. David has been trying to show it on the show for three weeks. Worth every penny.* 35:46 — Also worth having: Lucinda Scala Quinn's Spurtles: Amy sings the praises of her spurtles — a cross between a spoon and a spatula, available in solid and slotted versions. Great for flipping pancakes, stirring risotto, and pretty much everything else. A quiet classic.* 37:09 — Food News: The 100-Year Oyster Promise Fulfilled: Wintzell's Oyster House in Mobile, Alabama, had a long-standing promotion: free oysters to any man 80 years old, accompanied by his father. In early 2026, 99-year-old James Rush finally walked in with his 80-year-old son Jimmy to claim it. This is the first time in nearly 100 years the promotion has been fulfilled.* 39:13 — The World's Best Cheese: The World Championship Cheese Contest recently crowned the Beemster Royaal Grand Cru — a 12-month-aged Gouda made by a cheesemaker with a Royal Warrant from the Netherlands — as best in show. The cows graze on seagrass near the ocean; the resulting milk delivers butterscotch and toasted almond notes. It is available at specialty cheese shops in the U.S.* 41:03 — Amy's personal favorite: Abbaye de Belloc: A butterscotch-nutty, alpine-style cheese from the Pyrénées in the Comté family, made by affineur Mons and sold at Formaggio Kitchen in Cambridge (which has an in-store aging cave and an online shop).* 43:07 — A love letter to Queijo Serra da Estrela: David raves about Portugal's greatest cheese — an oozy, thistle-rennet sheep's milk cheese from the Serra da Estrela mountains. He recalls a peak life moment at Quinta do Crasto in the Douro, when a nearly empty wheel arrived at the table, spaghetti swirled in the gooey inside with just black pepper. Nearly impossible to find properly aged in the U.S.* 48:35 — So long, and see you Wednesday at noon: Thank you for joining us. The Prosecco is gone, Amy is laughing, and we'll see you next Wednesday at 12 noon Eastern.Products We Love* Rose Levy Beranbaum's Reduction Spatula (ThermoWorks Signature Series) — A long spatula with raised measurement markings for tracking sauce reductions right in the pan. Also useful for checking viscosity. An absolute game-changer for anyone who reduces stocks, sauces, or caramels.* Lucinda Scala Quinn's Spurtles — A cross between a spoon and a spatula, available in solid and slotted versions. Great for stirring, flipping, and doing basically everything at the stove.Books and Publications* Morning Baker by Roxana Jullapat — A baking book dropping April 7th, from the author of Mother Grains* A Kitchen on Goose Cove by Devin Finigan — From the chef of Aragosta restaurant in Maine; coming May 19, 2026.* Le Road Trip by Vivian Swift — Illustrated travel memoir covering a honeymoon journey through France* Dorie's Anytime Cakes by Dorie Greenspan — Out now; photo-realistic illustration style sparked a lively debate* Wheat Belly by Dr. William Davis — The classic tome on eliminating wheat from your diet and whyRecipes* Sourdough Miche (French whole-grain sourdough)* Porridge Bread* L. Christopher Guest's second time in the director's chair involved him putting on a dog show. Co-written with Eugene Levy, this fake documentary about the people getting their pooches ready for the prestigious Mayflower Dog Show (and then the show itself) stars Michael McKean, Catherine O'Hara, Jane Lynch, Parker Posey, Fred Willard, John Michael Higgins, Michael Hitchcock and Jennifer Coolidge. And loads of dogs. Will Mick, Hannah and Jen give it a blue rosette or send it home with its tail between its legs? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
On this week's episode, we honor one of the greatest comedic minds ever to grace the silver screen. Catherine O'Hara. In particular, we explore her wildly impressive improvisational collaborations with Christopher Guest. These films highlight some of the most impressive elements of O'Hara's talents: her improv skills, her dramatic range, her world-building, and her overall magnetic star power. We start with the small-town mockumentary Waiting for Guffman, where O'Hara plays Sheila Albertson, a travel agent with big dreams of Broadway stages and Hollywood lights. Next, O'Hara plays Cookie Fleck in the iconic mockumentary about the highly competitive and cut-throat world of dog shows in Best In Show. Finally, Catherine O'Hara plays Marilyn Hack, a struggling actor looking to climb her way back up the ladder in the biting industry satire, For Your Consideration. With this episode we launch the first of Elise's three-part Special Subject, Family Freak-Outs. We start with some musings about how to define this micro-genre, what makes it different from a standard family melodrama and its relationship to horror, and then we move into our first two freak-outs, Charles Burnett's To Sleep with Anger (1990) and Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenebaums (2001). While the problems these families are dealing with in their very specific milieus of middle-class black South Central LA and upper-middle-class white fairy-tale Manhattan are very different, the capacity to freak out may be a universal feature of the family; and in these two movies, at least, freaking out can lead to healing. Then a quick Fear and Moviegoing in honour of Catherine O'Hara's passing, Christopher Guest's Best in Show. Welcome! 2026 has been a tough years in many ways, particularly with beloved performers passing away. We lost a comedy genius in Catherine O'Hara, and enjoying Best in Show seems like a proper way to pay tribute. If you've never seen this legendary mockumentary or it's been a while, it come highly recommended!

A tip of the hat to the late Catherine O'Hara.
Phil and Emily continue their journey through the 2000s with Christopher Guest's beloved mockumentary Best in Show. Joined by critic Kathryn VanArendonk, they discuss the film's improvisational comedy, its incredible ensemble cast—including Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, Parker Posey, and Fred Willard—and why the world of competitive dog shows created one of the funniest comedies of the decade. They also unpack Guest's unique filmmaking style and how Best in Show became a cult favorite that still influences comedy today.Follow the show and guestsPodcast Like It's — https://instagram.com/podcastlikeitsPhil Iscove — https://instagram.com/pmiscoveEmily St. James — https://instagram.com/emilystjamsKathryn VanArendonk — https://www.instagram.com/kvanarendonk Hosted on Acast. A cult classic, Waiting for Guffman is a mockumentary chronicling a small community theatre's production of its town's history. Boasting a host of exceptional improv actors — Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy, and Fred Willard to name a few — the Christopher Guest written and directed feature is jam packed with laughs. Guest, who also serves as the films lead Corky St. Clair, is in his comfort zone here. He gets the material, letting the actors take command and playing to their immense comedic strengths. Although it is beloved now, Waiting for Guffman was not a huge hit. In fact, it barely made it to the big screen. Its critical success, however, did lead to several more films in the same vein — Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, and For Your Consideration. All of which are worth watching, as well. So, sit back, calm those jitters with a Fear.Movie.Lions Hazy Double IPA, and break a leg! The Thunderous Wizard, Chumpzilla, and Bling Blake are done working for these bastard people! WKC Toy Group Winning Handler Tim Lehman on Campaigning a Maltese and Drop-Coat Excellence Fresh off his Toy Group win at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, Tim Lehman joins Pure Dog Talk to share the story behind Cookie, the breathtaking Maltese who captured hearts at the Garden. From a childhood obsession sparked in a Minnesota library to standing in the Best in Show lineup under the spotlight at Madison Square Garden, Tim's journey is a testament to mentorship, meticulous coat care, purposeful breeding and staying in the path of kindness. Lehman, a self-described “boutique handler,” takes us behind the scenes of campaigning Cookie, the exquisite Maltese who finished the year as the Number 4 Toy Dog—all on a limited schedule of fewer than 50 shows. Tim shares how balance—between his career as a hairstylist and his life with dogs—has shaped his approach to showing, conditioning and long-term success. [caption id="attachment_15212" align="alignleft" width="446"] Who says show dogs aren't real dogs?! Cookie is all wrapped up and playing with her favorite ball.[/caption] We dive deep into the art and science of maintaining a drop coat at the highest level. Maltese coat care is not about secret products or miracle sprays. According to Tim, it's about daily vigilance, disciplined wrapping, gentle grooming and knowing when to pull back. “Virgin hair,” as he calls it, is preserved through consistency and restraint. From bathing routines to managing coat breakage in four-day show weekends, Tim explains why what happens at home matters more than what happens ringside. The conversation also explores preservation breeding in action. Cookie represents six generations of intentional, thoughtful breeding—with multiple national specialty winners behind her. Tim discusses collaborating (and occasionally disagreeing!) with breeder Tammy Simon, the value of speaking your truth in breeding decisions, and the reality that even carefully planned breedings can produce surprises. In Maltese, where structure matures slowly and the coat requires years of commitment, patience may be the greatest virtue of all. We also talk about mentorship. Tim credits his early years working for the legendary Peggy Hogg for shaping his technical skills and eye for detail. His advice for aspiring drop-coat...

So… we skipped a week and didn't tell anyone. Sorry about that, folks. Life got in the way in a big way, but we're back with stories to tell. Kris and Tara share COVID stories. Kris dives into her experience at ReadOUT. And of course, we've got those tasty, tasty recommendations. Official Recommendations From Kris: Best in Show (2000) Kris's official recommendation this week is the film Best in Show, in honour of the late, great, and very much missed Catherine O'Hara. It's a mockumentary set in the wild and wacky world of competitive dog shows and the people who devote their lives to it. And, it turns out that the film aged fairly well. If you haven't seen it before, check it out. From Tara: When She Flies by Lee Winter Tara's official recommendation this week is When She Flies by Lee Winter. Despite a humiliating first encounter that only one of them remembers, Jasmine and Sienna reconnect later in life by chance and their relationship churns up a lot of things that need changing in their personal lives. The late and irreplaceable Catherine O'Hara's greatness lived in the microscopic choices — the mouthed lines, the half-beats, the emotions stacked on top of jokes — none of which were written down, and all of which made the comedy work. From Waiting for Guffman to Best in Show to Beetlejuice, she gave audiences “permission to laugh” by making even the most absurd premises feel emotionally true. Which is why the Home Alone franchise became a global phenomenon, and why for writers especially, her loss is painful in a very specific way: The best, funniest, most essential parts of a script aren't written, if you're lucky enough to have Catherine O'Hara reading your lines. Cathy and Todd discuss Best in Show to honor Catherine O'Hara and dive into America's Mayflower Kennel Club Dog Show in Philadelphia, where nothing “big” happens and that is exactly the joke. They examine Christopher Guest's mockumentary style, made without a traditional script, in which an ensemble performs identity inside a highly rule-bound world. They move through their typical categories and share plenty of their favorite clips as they explore how the film, released in 2000 before reality TV normalized confessionals, predicted The Office and Parks and Recreation. Cathy and Todd connect the movie to modern life, where we curate versions of ourselves at school, work, in parenting spaces, and on social media, and reflect on what this means for girls who are trained to perform likability, calm, and competence. Legendary Handler Andy Linton on Quality, Conditioning and Presentation [caption id="attachment_15022" align="alignleft" width="338"] Andy and Penny shine at the DPCA Top 20.[/caption] Host Laura Reeves sits down one-on-one with legendary professional handler Andy Linton for an in-depth conversation about a lifetime in the sport. From his beginnings as a Southern California teenager more interested in surfing than dog shows, to handling some of the most iconic Best in Show winners in history — including Indy winning BIS at Westminster Kennel Club — Andy shares the experiences, lessons and mindset that shaped his extraordinary career. Andy walks listeners through his early days showing a Doberman in the 1970s, learning the ropes by working for top handlers and absorbing invaluable lessons from mentors like Clay Coady, Tim Brazier, Bob and Jane Forsyth, and others. He reflects on the importance of watching, learning and stealing the best ideas — not just how handlers move dogs, but why certain techniques change balance, expression and overall picture in the ring. For Andy, success has never been accidental. It's the result of dreaming big, setting clear goals and backing those dreams with relentless effort and self-reflection. Central to the conversation is Andy's core philosophy of winning: quality, condition and presentation. He explains why even a modest dog can dramatically improve — or undermine — its chances depending on conditioning and handling, and why exhibitors should focus on improving their own skills rather than blaming judges or competition. Conditioning, Andy emphasizes, isn't about one-size-fits-all roadwork, but tailoring fitness to each dog's structure and needs while keeping them happy, healthy and enthusiastic about their job. The discussion also dives into Andy's trademark quiet hands and free-stacking style, emphasizing trust, simplicity and making the ring feel as relaxed as a dog waiting for a sandwich in the kitchen. He shares practical insight into situational awareness, reading judges, selling a dog's strengths with integrity, and mastering the small details that can make all the difference at high-pressure events like Westminster. Beyond the ring, Andy reflects on his role advising breeding programs, watching generational changes in breeds, and helping create great dogs behind the scenes. He also speaks candidly about mentorship, gratitude, and the dog show community, sharing heartfelt thoughts on kindness, legacy and staying engaged in the sport he loves. This episode is packed with timeless wisdom for breeders, owner-handlers and professionals who want to elevate their dogs — and themselves — in the world of purebred dogs.
