We discuss local (Indy) craft beer, spirits, beer news, and other shenanigans.
Happy Halloween from your bestest friends at thespeakpodcast! Adults and children alike will be out this evening enjoying the fresh-air and taking candy from strangers. Why not have an adult beverage ready to hand out to those trick or treaters over the age of 21 the combines both booze and sweet chocolatey goodness? Maybe Yuengling Hershey's Chocolate Porter is just the ticket! Tune in to get out thoughts on the the beer and comment below what you think.
It's been too long since we've offended the public at large. In an effort to remind you all of the profundity and brilliance of our beer knowledge we have decided to discuss one hop across three styles. Make sure to take detailed notes as this episode will surely help you pass your Cicerone Certification Program. The offerings in this episode all contain mosaic hops. We start with Small and Soft from Bare Hands Brewery. This New England Style Pale Ale offers great utility and artwork that left Adam nearly speechless. Next up was was an American IPA; Pompeii from Toppling Goliath Brewing Company. Clocking in at 6.3% ABV it's not even close to one of their strongest offerings, but this one stood out with strong pineapple flavors. To finish out the episode we sampled one of Destihl Brewery's Deadhead IPA Series, Touch of Haze. Juicier than the Pompeii it hid the 7.3% ABV quite well.Let us know what you think about mosaic hops and let us know what other hops you think we should explore! Cheers!
It's finally happened! We located an Indiana brewery that we haven't previously offended and was not aware of the inherent risks associated with the mere presence of Adam in the building. Cedar Creek Brewing Company opened the brewery doors and collaborated with us on our first ever commercial beer release, Revival! This pre-prohibition lager is an all-day drinker with an earthy and hoppy finish that is so clear, you could read a book through it! Not that we at thespeakpodcast endorse reading. You know, because effort and stuff.Special thank you to Sugar Creek Malt Company for providing the finest in local malt products and helping making our beer the refreshingly outstanding product that it is.If you want to try it, hurry to Cedar Creek Brewing now. Or, for you folks further up North, Brewdog Indy should have some as well.Oh, and a very special thanks to Kevin from Indy's second favorite podcast, OHHAP :) Cheers!
That's right, a Halloween episode in May. It just so happens that we sampled Adam Has Two Moms from Sun King brewing back in October and that particular American Amber comes out seasonally in the summer. So this all makes sense... Just really going to need for you to go with it.Two American Amber Ales, a Rye IPA, and a whiskey. Enjoy!
Hey Boos, check out our newest Shorty featuring INterspace. INterspace is an Out of This World (puns are great) collaboration with Cedar Creek Brewing and Indy's (second) best podcast, Out Here Having a Pint. They kept it local featuring malt from Sugar Creek Malt Company and hops from 812 Farms. As space was involved, we knew we needed to keep it brief; lest you all wanted to hear Adam's dissertation about Star Wars in a post-modern America. You may just want to take our word for it, nobody wants to hear that.Let us know what you think about our Shorty series. Feel free to give us a rating as well. Oh, and tell your friends!
Every now and again we're gifted some beverages from brewers or friends of the show. Usually these are limited type releases and not everyone can get their hands on 'em. While we don't always encourage scouring the secondary market for beer, we do have to say... the beers same on this episode were mighty fine. If you're fortunate enough to have some Scheming Demons from Deviate Brewing or a bomber of Feu De Camp from Black Flag Brewing Company sitting around, feel free to play the home game with us. Or, if you've had them before, let us know what you thought of them!Either way, here's another 45 minutes of mindless entertainmentXOXOthespeakpodcastPS - Special thanks to our pal, Nate King for stopping by to share a beer with us. If you find yourself if need of a fine smoking pipe, check out his stuff!
If you think that title sounds off-putting, just wait until you listen to this episode! We make a very deliberate and concerted effort in our first episode of 2021 to stay on task and on topic. Things start off well while we discuss 18th Street Brewing's Deal with the Devil. It was a boozy little number that we all enjoyed. There is then an artful transition into Cigar City Brewing's Florida Man. A little juicy, a little resin, and a nice little beer. Then things start to take a little turn. Some Double IPA discussion leads to water quality discussion. In an effort to make our discussion sound more intelligent than it actually was, Pete delves into a toilet symposium. Yes, we talk toilets. Not just that, but the most effective way to brew utilizing said toilet. And because Pete seems to think tying reputable companies to his asinine ideas will have favorable outcomes, he's requested brewing companies send us equipment for a head-to-head "brewoff." Their equipment vs a toilet.... Because apparently when state of the art, modern brewing equipment can brew a better product than a porcelain waste disposal device that has to improve their sales, right?Listen in! Share with friends! Leave us a rating!
Christmas, a time of joy and child-like anticipation of what Santa has left under the tree for all the good little boys and girls... Consider this episode the big-ass lump of coal in your stocking, kids. We celebrate Christmas exactly how you'd expect. Six beers, Adam singing, and a Nazi reference or two. Just pretend we're the drunk uncle at the table that you can't get to shut up. Listen and endure! For our dedicated fans who play the home game, here is your beer shopping list:Sun King Electric Reindeer Spoetzl Brewery Shiner Holiday Cheer Ale Breckenridge Brewery Christmas AleFat Heads Brewery Holly Jolly Christmas AleLexington Brewing Company Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Peppermint PorterBell's Brewing Christmas Ale
We've never claimed to be the most organized podcast on the internet; we mostly just claim to be the best podcast on the internet. Having said that, please enjoy a podcast that was recorded over a year ago after superfan, "DZ" brought us a bounty of beverages from Terre Haute Brewing Company out of Terre Haute, Indiana. We sampled and reviewed the CitraGenesis Wheat Beer, Madame Brown English Brown Ale, Powerline Imperial Double East Coast IPA, and the Sticky Green Double IPA.We'll have to follow-up with THBC after they listen to this episode and see if they'll allow us in the brewery. These beers are good enough to justify a trip to Terre Haute. We know, we know, it smells - but trust us, it's worth it.
Happy Thanksgiving from your friends at thespeakpodcast! As the weather turns cooler, porter season is upon us. We sample an offerings from Four Day Ray and Horny Goat Brewing. We should give an honorable mention to DuClaw as well as Sweet Baby Jesus did make an appearance on this episode.Mute the commentary during the Macy's Day Parade and listen to us while you watch the balloons float by!
We "Indiana Jones'ed" in Rob's beer fridge (nearly losing Adam to a booby trap) and emerged with a unique variety of tasty beverages. The title of this episode is all of the additional information we are willing to provide. Thanks to the following breweries for giving us something to talk about!Flat 12 Bierwerks, Upland Brewing Company, Black Flag Brewing Company, DuClaw Brewing Company
We feel the need to apologize to Bad Dad Brewing Company. They submitted samples to us for our review. In typical, thespeakpodcast fashion; Adam was Adam, Pete managed to misspeak in near record time, and Rob was there to try and coral this clown-show we call a podcast. We reviewed 6 different Bad Dad Brews. The lineup there is Fairmount is tremendous. Listen in to see what we thought. Share with your friends. And then venture up to Bad Dad and tell us what you think!
We've never really participated in, "Sober October" before. However, we thought now might be a good time to try some Alcohol Free beers and report our findings. We sourced an "AF" expert and located another Fultz who is something of a fledging authority on alcohol free beer. Yes, you read correctly. We used both "Fultz" and "expert" in the same sentence... Adam has a brother.Listen in and learn about a rather undiscovered (at least to us) world of fantastic alcohol free beers. We talk about some offerings from: Brew Dog, Athletic Brewing, Omnipollo, and Two Roots.
It's still warm enough to drink summer beers! At least the cool kids are still drinking summer beers on your favorite podcast. Listen in as we discuss Sun King's Orange Vanilla Sunlight Cream Ale and Rhinegeist's Zango Fruited Ale. Adam also channels his inner Dexter by discussing cutlery and fish murder.Let us know what some of your favorite summer beers were in the comments. Also, any ideas on what beer we should brew next?
Did you know there is apparently a tiger on the loose in Knoxville? Did you also know that 16 months ago we recorded a shorty about a beer from a brewery in East Hampton Connecticut called, Fat Orange Cat Brew Company? Lastly, did you know that we will find any excuse to try and make one of our episodes somehow topical?Tune in to get out thoughts on FOC's Do All Sixteen Dances Belgian Style Saison! Like, comment and share to see if we can't get Adam to do the dance!
While Indy did not get to experience the, "Best Four Days in Gaming" this year, Sun King did not let us down! We were able to get our hands on the 2020 Gencon offering, Genevieve! This Belgian-Style Amber Ale packed some great complexities that made it unique, refreshing and enjoyable. Listen in to get our full thoughts and to hear from our always riveting guest, Zellers!
If you're in to hazy brews, check out the line up for this episode:Warpigs – Foggy Geezer Hazy IPA (3 Floyds and Mikkeller) Old Nation Brewing – M43 NEIPA Old Nation Brewing – Boss TweedThe highlights from our beer shenanigans this episode include: History lessons from Rob, Questions about how corpses taste from Adam, and Adam is now indebted to Pete one ladder.
Because twice a month wasn't enough for some of you, allow us to reintroduce the Shorty series. What better way to do that than to discuss one of the most hyped beverages since, White Claw - Pabst Blue Ribbon Hard Coffee! Is it worth the hype? Have you missed Adam's ridiculousness? Do you enjoy alliteration? It's all here!Cheers!
Who will be crowed the official thespeakpodcast beer of the summer 2020?!?! Tune in and find out!We celebrate the 4th of July by sampling 7 beers and ranking them in order of bestest, to least bestest. We felt we were clever by picking 7 beers 'cause July is the seventh month of the year... And that's kind of where the logic stopped. Here is our lineup on this episode:Fountain Square Brewing Company: Working Man's PilsnerFounder's Brewing Company: All Day IPAThe Devil's Trumpet Brewing Company: Classic PilsnerRhinegeist Brewery: Mosiac Pale AleBlack Acre Brewing Company: Saucy Intruder IPAPeople's Brewing Company: Ol' Tavern Lemon RadlerLagunitas Brewing Company: Little Sumpin Sumpin Ale
What seems like an eternity ago now, we sat down with our friend, Ant from Mo Head Y'all. Ant has been a staple in the Midwest craft beer scene for a while now and it was great to finally meet him.Shortly after we sat down with him we were all asked to stay a home and shelter in place due to COVID-19. It didn't seem like the right time to release an episode of us having a good time and enjoying being out and about drinking some pints.Doors are now starting to open up and you can now get a beer at your favorite brewery, or at Mashcraft in Greenwood, where we were when we recorded this episode. We discuss what got us in to craft beer, a side beer hustle, and how craft beer can help bring people together.Be warned, there are lots of swears and the usual shenanigans you expect from your friends at thespeakpodcast.Cheers!
We made it back to the studio!Don't be worried, we're observing social distancing, wearing masks, not letting Adam touch us or anything we love.We do have for you a brand new episode! We talk about pilsners. Not super sexy, but a tremendously refreshing beverage when done right. We have an offering from Devil's Trumpet and Toppling Goliath. We're glad to be back in the swing of things. Make sure you follow along with us. We've got some big stuff happening! We're going to formally launch a new craft beer network and we have an episode to release here soon hanging with Ant from the Mo Head Y'all show!
As the shelter in place order is still in effect, we've gone back to the archives. Please enjoy this, "Part II" episode featuring:People's Brewing Company – Phantom Assassin IPAAgainst the Grain Brewery – Citra Ass DownWe'll let you know if we stumble across Part I.Cheers and stay safe!
You know how Disney locks away movies in a vault and then re-releases them? Well, this is kinda like that, except we forgot to release the episode initially. So we'd like to introduce you again for the first to time this - our episode from the vault! We kick things off with a beer you can no longer get from Books and Brews, Jabbersmokey! It is an imperial smoked stout aged in a scotch whiskey barrel. Just because you can't get this one anymore, doesn't mean that you can't have Books and Brews beer delivered to your door! We also chat about Sweet Baby Jesus! From DuClaw Brewing Company. Let's be honest - if you haven't tried this one yet, do you even craft beer, bro? Also, shout-out to Barrel Chat. Member when they had a podcast? Pepperidge Farm remembers. For sponsorship and marketing inquiries please reach out to: thespeakpodcast@gmail.com
COVID-19 keeping you from your favorite brewery today? Well, that's no reason not to celebrate this year! Crack open a beer and listen to drunk Adam and the boys from thespeakpodcast as we review two offerings from Danny Boy!
Looking for some lunchtime drinking buddies? Tune in and listen to us talk about a peanut butter porter from Quaff On Brewing and another porter imported all the way from Iceland!Cheers!
We consume three IPA's - so we titled the episode three IPA descriptors. Really can't tell you if they're appropriate or not; after the first few minutes of Adam talking about Star Wars my brain just went numb.First out of the gates is Triton's The Hempire Strykes Back. It's an approachable Hemp IPA that lead to so much Star Wars discussion. Our second Indy beer is from a brewery we haven't sampled on the show before, Mind Over Mash. We consume their Hop Lord... and then discuss Star Wars. Because, you know, Adam's mental acrobatics.Lastly we review Heretic Brewing Company's You Can't Handle the Juice! At some point in time the taste of eyeballs was mentioned. Don't let that dissuade you however, it was actually pretty well reviewed.
As part of our pledge to get out more in the New Year - mostly to celebrate Adam's parole; we stopped in to Four Day Ray for a few pints. We discussed their award winning After Burner smoked lager and their seasonal Snow Shed Winter Ale.Because we're an enlightened bunch, we then went on to discuss taxes and presidential home states.Enjoy!
Countdown to descending balls with your friends at thespeakpodcast! As is tradition, we're switched from malted barley beverages to distilled spirits! Sadly, we only sampled from 3 of the 5 bottles we acquired for the episode, because responsibility.Tune in to see how we felt about Hard Truth's White Rum and Gin and Tanner's Creek Bourbon Whiskey! We drink them neat and then mixed for added celebratory fun.Happy New Year, Dear Readers!
Time to wake up and listen to your present from thespeakpodcast. In this merry and jolly episode, we review three beers to get us in the Christmas spirit! Taxman made up a special Orange Cognac beer,St Bernardus has their old standby Christmas Ale, and we finish with our traditional Anchor Christmas Ale.
thespeakpodcast is proud to bring you their Repeal Day Celebration episode featuring Burn 'Em Brewing's Red Dead Revelvet and Southern Tier's Cinnamon Roll!Sure, it's a made up "holiday," but just add this to your many wonderful excuses to drink!Cheers!
Sherpas, goats, and leftover fridge beer. Adam screws up the rating scale again and we have pointless arguments. If you didn't bicker enough at the kid's table this year for Thanksgiving, listen in to us arguing like idiots! We do (eventually) discuss some offerings from Scarlet Lane, DuClaw, and Centerpoint Brewing. Also, as is tradition, Adam gets a Holiday swear.
Curious about that title? Adam said it. We talked about stouts. Does that add to the curiosity? Tune in to this week's fun filled episode that SHOULD have NOT had anything to do with Mountain Dew. We rap about Bare Hands Brewing Oat Stout and Modern Times Black House Coffee Roasty Stout.
Our first installment of the, "Tavern of Terror" is now live for your listening enjoyment. This spooktacular episodes features Temporal Purgatory from 18th Street and 3 scary offerings from Brew Dog.
It's that time of the year again kids! No, not GABF... I mean yes, that is going on. But what I'm talking about is INDY BEER WEEK!!!We sat down with the creators of Indy Beer Week and discussed the ups and downs of year two. We delve in to the shenanigans and goings-on for the rest of the week and share a few beers with some good dudes. Comment below, what was your favorite event?
Track suits, Grandma's Kitchen, Weatfalia Vans, 5 year plans, and life experiences that taste like peanut butter - it's all here! We were invited in to Sun King's inner sanctum and sat down for one of our more insightful interviews with the Co CEO/Founders, Dave Colt and Clay Robinson.Let us know in the comments: Are you #teamoktobeerita or #teampumpkinslushlatte
Looking for something to get you through the rest of your Friday afternoon? Why not give our newest release a listen? We're talking about Scarlet Lane's Dorian Espresso Stout and Central Waters Brewhouse Coffee Stout.Because we're super masculine there is also some manly hunting conversation. Learn how Adam spends his leisure hours.
It's a Berliner Weisse extravaganza!- Black Acre Brewing Company – Cherry Ol' Fritz- Untitled Art – Marionberry Berliner Weisse - Fountain Square Brewing Cherry Vanilla Berliner Weisse
Man oooh man did we have a great time with our friends from Out Here Having a Pint. We decided to get together for a few pints at Deviate Brewing.Deviate has some of the most robust beers you'll ever experience. Each glass of their beer takes your taste buds on a unique flavor experience that you simply must try. OR, if you're Pete - You take all 14 taps of that experience and ask that it be poured in to one glass. Deviate from the Norm, right? We also discuss how vaping makes you a badass with friend of the show, Doug.Mike and Greg knew to steer clear of this episode, but thanks just the same for letting us crash your place for a few hours.Cheers!
We decided to celebrate our 5 year recording anniversary at our most favorite speakeasy, O'Banion's. We sat down with the proprietor, John and talked beer. We also let IndyCar mechanic and pipe maker extraordinaire join in on the fun.As the weather is heating up, we cooled down with Triton Brewery's Strawberry Golden Ale and Urban Chestnut's Escape Tropical Ale. Tune and and hear all about what we thought!
What's more patriotic than celebrating American with your favorite podcasters? Probably lots, but that question was rhetorical, dick!Fire up the ol' internet radio and light up some sparklers. We're drinking some good old-fashioned, cheap American macro brews to determine which beer is the best "bang for your buck" to watch sky explosions with. We also test Adam and Pete's blind beer tasting identification skills and mix up a special beer concoction that you'll probably want to try at home.Cheers America! And suck it Britain! As is tradition now with our celebratory super-special episodes there will be some occasional swearing.
You ever wanted to hear Adam make car noises? Ever wondered about Adam's extensive IndyCar knowledge? How about Adam's car knowledge in general? Perhaps Adam's insight in to colors or flavors? If not, you'll have to suffer through all of the above to hear our review of two new Jarrett Andretti releases from Flat 12 and a popular standby; Hinchtown Hammerdown.Enjoy!
If we're being honest, "Comprehensive" is a bit of a stretch. We can promise we have delivered on a solidly mediocre, but approachable "Joe Six Pack" kind of review. We ran out and purchased the 10-4 Good Buddy collaboration 4 pack. Sun King teamed up with 3 Floyds, Rhinegeist, Austin Beer Works, and Cigar City Brewing. It's been about the best $18.99 we've spent on beer in a long time. Why not grab your own 4-pack and drink along with us?
If you think you're the only one that doesn't understand that title, you're not. While the weather is finally getting warmer, that doesn't mean that stouts aren't still in season. We've got Night Goat Coffee Stout from The Devil's Trumpet. We follow that one up with a Belgian Chocolate Toffee Vanilla Stout from Octopi Brewing. Then, for good measure we mix the two. The result was tremendous.Spattered in there, Adam does his best Cardi B impression, we shout out Ant, and due to the ridiculous nature of this entire episode we have decided to offer a discount on our merch!thespeakpodcast.threadless.com
Looking for exciting new beer to sample this weekend? Make sure you hit up Black Acre on Saturday (5/4/19) and Four Day Ray Sunday (5/5/19) to snag one of the most unique and highly rated gose beers our group has ever sampled, Pina Fantasma. If you're not really sure what a gose is, give this episode a listen. During our on-site recording at Four Day Ray Brewing this time around, we were joined by Hutch of The Pint Cycle and Brian Graham. We were able to have some truly insightful and down to Earth discussion about not only beer styles, but the state of craft beer. Be warned - Pete got too lazy to edit this one. Some adult language and humor has made it in to this weeks episode.
To celebrate Pat McAfee's debut of OCW (Office Championship Wrestling) and to continue our pursuit of a celebrity guest on our show, we decided to throw back some Naturdays from Natural Light. I know what you're all thinking, "Isn't that an out-of-state beer," and, "Won't Rob HATE that?!"The answer to both of those questions was a resounding yes! However, we do it for our viewers.Give our latest Shorty a listen and let us know if you think we should bring these back. Also Mark Hamill, next time you're looking for some idiots to drink Hamm's with, hit us up.#hammswithhamill
So uh, it's been about a month. We know that you've missed us and we promise to try and stick to our regular upload schedule. Things have been rough with Steve abandoning the show and HIS CREDIT HOURS!That being said, thank you to our sponsor Books and Brews for seeing us through these trying times and allowing us some Nanceferatu to consume and review. This then (naturally) leads us to a geography discussion because we then review Truth from Rhinegeist and Adam and Rob can't let a simple mistake die!We hope you enjoy! Also - Jet's go ahead and DM us for our mailing address for the sponsorship payment.
After our venture out in to pub-lic, we've returned to the studio. The typical shenanigans you've come to expect ensued. This time around, we talked about a Black Kolsch called, "Sabbath" from Bier Brewery. Our mouths then experienced a taste of the North thanks to friend of the show, Jen P. She smuggled us back some Punxsutawney Philsner from Penn Brewery.Naturally this led us to a discussion about rodents and lawn mower racing. Also, John Deere - we are in the market for sponsors.
What better way to celebrate this totally legitimate holiday than sampling beer at the new, Daredevil Hall at the Ironworks Hotel. If you've never been the Ironworks Hotel is a pretty swanky place off of 86th Street in the Keystone area.Today they're offering a 3 course beer paired dinner for all of your Valentine's Day Needs. Being the investigative, hard-hitting podcasters that we are - We ventured out last night to preview the grub and brews. Give this episode a listen and then be sure to give Daredevil Hall a call before they're all booked up at 317-757-2888.
Yo Yo! To celebrate our new found print fame (We're in the Indianapolis Star today) we're releasing a double Indiana barrel-aged beer episode. We kick things off with Books and Brews' Shiaclops. We follow that up with Taxman Brewing's Mescal Barrel Exemption.Because Adam single-handily brought us the fame now bestowed upon us we allow him more bleeps and pauses than we ever have before! If you like, Adam you're sure to love this episode!
Happy (almost) New Year! Kick off your 2019 with Adam's rambling about raisins, Rob's peppered vodka, and whatever the hell the resident wine expert, Pete was talking about. Thanks to Cardinal Spirits, Starlight Distillery and Books and Brews for manufacturing the fine products consumed on this episode.
Awoken by the sounds of Santa's reindeer,Bound down the stairs to see what gift's he brought this year. When looking under the tree what should you find,But an mp3 of three dummies imbibed.Burn 'em, Anchor, and Prairie are reviewed,As this year a Christmas podcast ensued. If you promise to listen, share and review,We will never again make a Christmas poem for you.
