Though the technology of GPS has certainly made our lives easier, there are still times when we are following that highlighted blue line that we need to be sure we are paying close attention. Maybe it's dark. Maybe there is a detour or the area is completely new territory to us. Whatever the reason, we need to not just follow, but to follow well. This week as we continue in our "Follow Series" through the book of Luke, we gain a deeper understanding of what it means to follow Jesus well. What does it look like? What is the everyday call to follow Him well? What can we learn from His interactions with the disciples? Listen to this week's sermon to learn more about what the call to follow Jesus can look like your life.

Our society is so competitive. We all know the sayings: "If you aren't first, then you're last.", "Second place is the first loser." "Winning is everything." And yet in order to be a follower and disciple of Jesus, he calls us to a very different kind of winning. In fact, in order to WIN we are going to have to lose. As we look back at 25 years in our building in Station Street, Billy looks at the rallying call of Jesus
Jesus' road to victory runs through suffering. He will bear the crown, but He must first endure the cross. Any who would follow Him must embrace the same.
WHO IS THIS MAN, JESUS? This is still the central question Luke's constantly bringing us to. Who is Jesus? In Luke 9:18-20, Jesus asks Peter who he thinks he is. Peter's reply: "God’s Messiah." Many in our time see Jesus as merely a great moral teacher. He had some wonderful things to say, but he is a "god". But this brings us to a problem that I will let C. S. Lewis, author of Mere Christianity explain: "I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I'm ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don't accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to. ... Now it seems to me obvious that He was neither a lunatic nor a fiend: and consequently, however strange or terrifying or unlikely it may seem, I have to accept the view that He was and is God."* Lewis brings us to the same intersection Jesus brought Peter. We must decide who we believe Jesus to be. * Lewis, C. S., Mere Christianity, London: Collins, 1952, pp. 54–56. (In all editions, this is Bk. II, Ch. 3, "The Shocking Alternative.")
Jesus asked the disciples who people were identifying him to be. Then He asked them who they thought He was. Our answer should affect everything we do. A quote from C.S. Lewis debunks the possibility that He was just a good moral teacher. Who do you say He is?

Since the Son of God is the "first man" of the resurrection, we should get on board with His dying and rising.
