Congressman Andy Biggs (R), representing Arizona's 5th District, and candidate for governor, calls-in to the Seth Leibsohn Show with special guest Sara Carter, Director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), for a discussion on the Trump Administration’s strategy in combatting the illegal drug epidemic in this country. The conversation delves into the alarming increase in overdose deaths in Arizona, which stands in stark contrast to the national trend of declining overdose deaths. Biggs and Carter discuss the importance of addressing the root causes of this issue, including the lack of attention from the Biden Administration and the need for a whole-of-government approach. They also highlight the significance of prevention and education in reducing the demand for illicit substances. Producer David Doll discusses hearing about illegal drug use during the time he was in college. Seth compares the drug overdose deaths in 1994 versus the current 2026 statistics.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This episode of The UK Flooring Podcast sits down with Murray Biggs, founder of Woven & Woods, for a proper honest chat about retail, showroom design, customer experience, and what it really takes to build a flooring business that stands out.Murray shares how he went from working in carpet retail at 16 to opening his first showroom in Twickenham with borrowed money, limited budget, and a clear idea of what he didn't want to be. No red sale banners. No showroom packed with every stand going. No bland retail experience that looks like everyone else.Instead, Woven & Woods was built around impact, storytelling, and making the customer feel like they are in the right place before anyone has even started selling to them. The conversation gets into the thinking behind showroom layout, why too much choice can become a problem, how data helped Murray decide where to open his second showroom in Richmond, and why customer experience matters more than ever when footfall is harder to come by.It is also a very real conversation about the less glamorous side of growth: cash flow, overheads, staffing, warehousing, business partners, self-doubt, and learning how to back yourself again when business gets difficult. What You'll Learn in This Episode:How Murray started Woven & Woods with £25,000 of seed money and less than £10,000 left to build the first showroomWhy he refused to create a typical flooring shop full of manufacturer stands and sale bannersHow cheap materials, used properly, helped create a high-impact showroom with a clear identityWhy Woven & Woods limits its carpet ranges rather than trying to show everythingThe importance of using data, not just gut feeling, when opening a second showroomHow the river between Twickenham and Richmond affects customer behaviour more than you might expectWhy the first few steps inside a showroom matter, and how customers need space to settle into the environmentHow showroom design can tell a story before the sales conversation even startsWhy a messy showroom is a non-negotiable problem for MurrayHow to make flooring one of the enjoyable parts of a stressful renovation projectWhy customer experience is about much more than being friendlyThe hidden costs of running retail showrooms in London, including rent, rates, warehousing, staff, pensions, and cash flowWhy bigger businesses often come with bigger problemsThe best business advice Murray has read, and why focusing on what you are best at helped the business growThe danger of choosing the wrong business partner, even when the opportunity looks right at the timeHow a difficult year in business led Murray to question his decision-making and join Make or BreakWhy sometimes the thing holding the business back is the person running itMemorable Quote:“I would probably lose interest in the business if the business lost its wow factor to clients.”Speaker Information:Murray Biggs is the founder of Woven & Woods, a flooring and carpet retailer based in South West London, with showrooms in Twickenham and Richmond.Woven & Woods focuses on the mid to high-end residential market, helping customers choose flooring, carpets, wood flooring, and other products for homes and renovation projects. Last week's conversation about Katie Hobbs and Andy Biggs eating tacos in public and on camera went viral as Hobbs breaks out the political theater playbook to try to one up Biggs but totally ignoring her poor record as governor. The Dems continue with their tired talk of making the Save racist by calling it the "slave" act. Charles Barkley goes off the sports talk to give a confusing and tearful take on immigration. Plus, a Chicago Bulls' player fired after his take on pride month, Marco Rubio sets the legacy media straight so take notes, Abby Phillip all in on lunacy, and little people in space, you have to listen to know what that means.
Last week the Conservative Circus pointed out the political theater of the Katie Hobbs campaign, for example, her doing a photo op at a Tucson food truck festival where there were delicious tacos in front of her and she didn't touch them Later in the week James T. asked Congressman Biggs if he would eat a taco on camera and he honestly said no because he's a sloppy eater. Well, Hobbs took off with that exact interview and made another video that made the Conservative Circus go viral. Take a listen.

In this episode Michael speaks with Duan Biggs, Associate Professor and Olajos Goslow Chair at Northern Arizona University. They discuss Duan's extensive work and engagement in management and global policy in the governance of wildlife trade, and in a community and rights-based response to the Illegal Wildlife Trade. Based on his extensive experience, Duan describes how managing wildlife trade, and tackling illegal trade towards sustainable conservation outcomes requires alignment with the late Nobel Laureate Lin Ostrom's principles of good sustainable governance. The principles of those affected by policies and rules needing to be key participants in their formulation and fair and legitimate distribution of costs and benefits from policies being particularly important. Duan highlights that legitimate and strong enforcement is key ingredient in managing wildlife trade and curbing illegal wildlife trade, but needs to be accompanied by strong deeply participatory governance systems. In this episode we also discuss how the governance challenges in the Convention of Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), are echoed in other domains of global governance and the backlash and political and governance challenges in the US. It is sometimes used figuratively, as in "a febrile political climate." // I'm finally back on my feet after recovering from a febrile illness. // The actor delivered the monologue with a febrile intensity. See the entry > Examples: "Peppered with exclamation marks, breathless and febrile, this is an utterly mesmeric account of how one man's crimes can affect an entire community." — Laura Wilson, The Guardian (London), 20 June 2025 Did you know? The English language has had the word fever for as long as the language has existed (that is, about a thousand years); the related adjective feverish has been around since the 14th century. But that didn't stop the 17th-century medical reformer Noah Biggs from admonishing physicians to care for their "febrile patients" properly. Biggs apparently thought his medical writing required a word that clearly nodded to a Latin heritage, and called upon the Latin adjective febrilis, from febris, meaning "fever." It's a tradition that English has long kept: look to Latin for words that sound technical or elevated. But fever too comes from febris. It first appeared (albeit with a different spelling) in an Old English translation of a book about the medicinal qualities of various plants. By Biggs's time it had shed all obvious hallmarks of its Latin ancestry. Febrile, meanwhile, continues to be used in medicine in a variety of ways, including in references to such things as "febrile seizures" and "the febrile phase" of an illness. The word has also developed figurative applications matching those of feverish, as in "a febrile atmosphere."
Newt talks with Andrew Biggs, senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, about the perceived retirement crisis in the United States, arguing that the U.S. retirement system is performing well compared to other developed countries. He highlights that the typical U.S. senior is among the wealthiest globally. Biggs, who has worked on Social Security reform for over 20 years, notes that while surveys indicate a widespread belief in a retirement crisis, actual retirees report financial stability, with only 4% describing their situation as a crisis. Biggs advocates for a reevaluation of Social Security, proposing a shift from focusing solely on solvency to considering structural reforms that better align with current economic realities. He warns that without reform, the Social Security Trust Fund is projected to run out by 2032, necessitating either significant tax increases or benefit cuts. He suggests that a special commission could facilitate necessary reforms, as the regular political process may be inadequate to address the issue effectively.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
