Many a theater fan that does not happen to have Broadway in his/her backyard, fully appreciates the joy that a cast recording can bring. Download Bio: Blair Goldberg is currently appearing on Broadway in the smash hit musical, Kinky Boots. She got her start in the theater at the young age of 9, appearing in the Original Broadway Cast of ANNIE GET YOUR GUN starring Bernadette Peters and Tom Wopat. Ever since that first moment she stepped foot on a Broadway stage, she knew that performing would be a part of her life forever.   She went on to study theater in both high school and college, earning a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at NYU. On the very day of graduation from undergrad, she found out she had been cast in a developmental lab of the musical CARRIE. After taking part in the workshop, she was offered a spot in the Off-Broadway production, produced by MCC Theater, where she played the role of Norma, as well as understudying and performing the role of Chris. She can be heard on the Original Cast Album, produced by Sh-K-Boom records.   Blair performed in the Broadway bound musical, THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, directed by Jerry Lewis, music by Marvin Hamlisch, and book/lyrics by Rupert Holmes, playing the role of Peg and Understudying the lead role of Stella. She then toured the country as a nun in the 1st National Tour of SISTER ACT, directed by Jerry Zaks. She then appeared in the First National Tour of KINKY BOOTS directed by Jerry Mitchell. Some of her other favorite credits include: IF IT ONLY RUNS A MINUTE 5 (NYMF), HOMO THE MUSICAL at NYMF 2013 (Suzie), MAKEOVER (Dinah), IN THAT VALLEY (NAMT), TIME TO KILL at the York Theater (Beth), THE FIX(Violet), AIDA(Amneris), and GREASE (Marty).   She is the proud recipient of the Young Talent Award in the 2010 Lotte Lenya Competition and winner of the 2007 Shining Star Competition for WOR Radio (Northeast Region). She also performed in the 2011 Broadway's Rising Stars Concert at Town Hall. When not on stage, she enjoys watching lots of television, working out, doing jigsaw puzzles, and fine dining. She resides in New York City with her husband, Adam, and their daughter, Lyla. What she shares on this episode: Auditioning can be a stressful process, with the help of technology it is now very easy to gain access to the materials and know how to prepare on it. The production staff wishes you to do well. They want you to walk in the door and be exactly what they're looking for. The steps to get there can seem long and hard, but if you are willing to put in the work, you just may see your name in lights. Be you, be ready, prepare for every occasion, that might be the key to success. On this episode, Blair talks about her experiences and tips on what is it like auditioning in New York City. On this episode: How to prepare an audition for 16 or 32 bar cut How to include character in auditioning How and where to find materials for the audition What to deal with the nerves Picking contrasting monologues How the equity union works for the artist who want to audition in NYC The story on how she was on the broadway at the very young age Key takeaways: Just show who you are Start nice and strong Tell them stories to connect with the people behind the table Make clear specificity; concentrate and communicate the song Be yourself in entering the room Make an impression the first time they see you Positive affirmation will help ease the nerve Being prepared and act confident as you enter the room Look online for possible resources before auditioning   Connecting with the Artist: www.blair-goldberg.com

The Producer's Perspective Podcast with Ken Davenport

Kurt Deutsch is an actor, director, record producer, and film producer. He is the Senior Vice President for Theatrical & Catalog Development for Warner/Chappell Music, and President of Sh-K-Boom Records, a division of Warner Arts Music. The past 20 years have wreaked havoc on the music industry, and cast albums have become an endangered species as a result. Luckily, one guy saw this change coming. And back in the early part of the millennium, Kurt struck out on his own, and with Broadway actress Sherie Rene Scott he founded the independent label Sh-K-Boom Records. Its mission? Save Broadway music, one cast album at a time. Since then, Sh-K-Boom and its upstart sister label Ghostlight Records have grabbed the lion’s share of the cast album biz away from the big “studio” companies, recording big hits like The Book of Mormon, In the Heights, Next to Normal and many more. And Kurt sat down with me for this week’s episode to talk about . . . The state of the cast album and why every show needs one. Why albums should be part of a show’s capitalization, not an afterthought (he changed my mind on this one). What we will sell at the merch stands when CDs are no longer made. How to get an album for sale by opening night. Why if you’re writing a show, you have to have a demo.
