Our good friend and longtime listener, Scott Minto, Director of San Diego State University's Sports MBA Program, joins us to discuss the benefits of furthering your education in the greatest city in America. Knowing a lot of people are currently facing a challenging job market, we thought a discussion around alternative avenues would be topical for our listeners. Scott provided a peek behind the curtain on how he prepares his students for the sports world by instilling a diverse perspective and skillset. SDSU takes a different approach vs your typical Master's program allowing you the flexibility to pursue a variety of roles upon graduation. One of the aspects of the program that had Chris and Rob impressed was their emphasis on data analytics and reinforcement of how important this skill set is for the current day sports job seeker. Enrollment is currently open for SDSU's next class in 2021 and Scott literally gives you the answers to ace the interview. In this episode, I had an awesome chat with Scott Minto - Director of Sports MBA at San Diego State University (@SDSU). Scott shared his super interesting story. He is the first year alumni of this program and at the age of 26 he took over the program and it has been good 18 years now. WOW! We met during my MBA at Real Madrid and the first thing I started doing from the class he taught, was, to hop on the podcast wagon. And since then I started to binge-listen on sports business podcasts. Some of them that we both listen to are Sports Business Journal, Bloomberg Business of Sports and Front Office Features. Please go and check them out as well. The book of the episode: "We matter, Athletes and Activism" by Etan Thomas. Key takeaway from this conversation: Doing things you think are unnecessary is an added value to you when you are trying to get into the industry. If you have a few hours, a weekend or even a free summer, go to your local club, sports organization and ask how you could help them. It will help you gain that experience which you can afterwards put on your resume and build up your network. Remember it is all about who you know in this industry! If you felt connected with Scott in any way or need a piece of advice or have a great chat, feel free to connect with him on social media: https://www.linkedin.com/in/scottminto/ If you have any questions, I would be more than happy to help, just reach out to me: https://linktr.ee/eug.pro Thank you for continuous support and please keep the reviews and questions coming. I appreciate you all! Stay safe and see you in the next one! --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/e-procast/message
