Careth Arnold: From Bangkok to the Big Leagues of UltrarunningIn this episode, we sit down with Careth Arnold, an Altra-sponsored ultrarunner whose path into the sport is anything but typical. Born in Bangkok and now living in Paonia, Colorado, Careth shares how her background in fine arts, life as a mother of two, and deep love for the trails fuel her approach to racing, family, and balance. We talk about her first-ever trail race win at the Swamp 30K in Florida, how she actually enjoys east coast humidity, and the mindset that's helped her secure at least six outright wins—beating the entire field, men included. She even treats us to a bit of Thai during the conversation.Careth also shares the story behind her Golden Ticket at Canyons 100K, her experience at the Western States 100, and her plans to return to the east coast to run in Hurricane, West Virginia—home of the Hurricane Hundred K, a big-time race with small-town feels. This episode is a fun, thoughtful look at grit, growth, and the beauty of forging your own trail.
In this very special episode of the Flying Doctor Podcast, we're taking you on a remote rural road trip to the famous outback community of Broken Hill. And we have a Golden Ticket to one of the region's premier events! In this milestone 99th episode of Trail Society, we go all-in on Keely Henninger's third-place finish at the Canyons 100K, earning her a coveted Golden Ticket to Western States. Keely walks us through her decision to return to Western States, how she managed training on reduced mileage while in med school, and the strategies she used to stay consistent under immense pressure. We dig into the physiology, planning, and mindset shifts that made this comeback possible—including how stepping away from sponsorship has reshaped her relationship with competition. Listeners will get detailed answers to real questions from the trail community: what does tapering for a 100K really look like? How do you fuel during a freezing wet race? Can long hours on your feet at work substitute for running volume? Keely shares what went right, what she learned from what didn't, and how she's preparing to level up for Western States. Plus, we cover gear (including the story behind those glasses), race-week nutrition tweaks, and how elite women are balancing ambition with authenticity in sport. #350 Ever thought a “boring” business could be your golden ticket to freedom and flexibility? In this episode hosted by Kirsten Tyrrel, we chat with Kate Johnson, founder of Heritage Business Services, who built a thriving bookkeeping business during preschool pick-up hours. What started as a $0 side hustle turned into a profitable, scalable career — all by tapping into a skill most businesses desperately need but few entrepreneurs want to learn themselves. Whether you're looking for a side hustle or a full-fledged business, this episode is packed with practical steps, honest insights, and encouragement for every aspiring entrepreneur! What we discuss with Kate: + Turning bookkeeping into a business + Starting with $0 and no clients + Essential accounting skills to learn first + Free software certifications to test interest + How to find your first clients + Why niching down can help + Pricing strategies that scale + Subcontracting as a side hustle + Building passive income through bookkeeping + The importance of networking and referrals Thank you, Kate! We've got a grab-bag of gynecological goodness for you this week, as we sat down with elite ultrarunner, gynecologist, and Paradis pro ambassador Dr. Lauren Puretz. We dive into her running life, including how she navigates elite ultra training with two kids and a medical practice; the common gynecological issues she helps peri and menopausal women navigate, how to find quality care, and of course, what makes a good pair of performance underwear.Lauren Puretz, DO, is a gynecologist dedicated to helping women especially during transitions in life. She's an elite ultra runner, a mom of two, and recently opened up a private practice in Colorado Springs, CO. Last year, at age 41, Lauren finished third at the 2024 Javelina Jundred, running 100 miles in 15:00:50, the ninth-fastest time by a woman on the course. She came in 3rd at the Black Canyon 100k, securing a Golden Ticket for the Western States 100, which she competed in later that year. She also won the 2024 World Masters Mountain Running Championship. Lauren is also a pro ambassador for Paradis Sport, performance underwear by and for women. Our guest this week is one of the most unique characters in the surf world. He's an aggressive stock day-trader, a conspiracy theorist on just about every topic, a passionate amateur archaeologist, a part-time janitor for a school district, and an actor! But more than anything, he is one of the most “CORE” surfers we know. For over 30 years, he has been traveling the globe and scoring perfect waves. Whether he's constantly glued to Surfline or has developed some secret formula blending swell, wind, and tide data (we're not sure). What we do know is If he is out in the lineup, then you're probably at the best spot on the coast, if not in the entire world. His uncanny ability to quick-strike the world's best swells comes down to his secret weapon, his ultra-rare “Golden Ticket” airline pass, which has unlocked access to every bucket-list wave on the planet. Please welcome the most interesting man in the surf world, Mr. Tom “REZZY” Rezvan.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
