Riley Brady joins me on the podcast after an incredible performance at the 2026 Western States 100, where they finished second in 15:42:14, the third-fastest time ever run on the course. We talk all about Riley’s race, what changed since their previous Western States appearances, and how solving nutrition challenges transformed their racing. Riley shares why they felt like a true contender heading into race day after winning Black Canyon 100K and earning another Golden Ticket, as well as what it was like to race alongside Jen Lichter during one of the fastest Western States races in history. Riley also talks about joining Nike ACG, working with coach Adam Ferdinandsen, the support of their team, and what’s next as they prepare to take on the 100-mile race at UTMB. "Being able to go into a race where you are a rookie, it opened me up to take chances I wouldn't necessarily take. In the marathon, I felt like I got so scared of failing that I was really hesitant to make any moves, try anything big, or go for it. It was like a protective thing. 'I just want to play it safe so I can race as well as possible but not risk anything.' I think with this one, I went into this with nothing to lose. I'm gonna go out and try to race as well as I can and race hard and I know I'll probably make mistakes, but so what?" Earlier this year, Molly Seidel — the Tokyo Olympic bronze medalist in the marathon — went all-in on ultra running, earning a Golden Ticket to the prestigious 2026 Western States Endurance Run 100-miler. In this episode, Molly recaps her 100-mile debut, reflecting on the highs, lows, river crossings, and more. She finished the race in 24 hours, 29 minutes, and 27 seconds. She was the 28th woman to cross the line, and came in 141st out of 323 finishers. And we're joined by a special guest: Molly's girlfriend, Molly Reidy! SPONSORS: Lagoon. Hardrock Uncovered is Ultra Uncovered's exclusive interview series leading into the 2026 Hardrock Endurance Run, bringing you inside the stories, preparation, and mindset of the athletes taking on one of ultrarunning's most iconic races. In Episode 5, we sit down with Careth Arnold, whose journey to Hardrock has been built on more than training miles. After volunteering, sweeping the course, and spending over a month immersed in the San Juan Mountains, Careth has developed a deep respect for both the race and the community that surrounds it.She shares why she declined a Golden Ticket after earning one at Canyons Endurance Runs, choosing instead to devote her full attention to Hardrock. We also discuss the lessons she learned from her victory at TDS, how motherhood and professional running continue to intersect, and why this has become the biggest and most intentional training block of her career.Throughout the conversation, Careth reflects on the wild beauty of the San Juans, the friendships she's built through volunteering, and the sense that Hardrock operates on its own timeline. It's a thoughtful discussion about patience, preparation, and falling in love with a place long before ever standing on its starting line.Stay tuned as Hardrock Uncovered continues with more athlete conversations leading up to race weekend. Colleen's oldest son still hasn't moved his stinky baseball cleats, you can buy a Ferris wheel in NE Minneapolis, things are afoot at Jason's beloved Southfork Ranch, an upsetting story about people taking things from the set of "The Bear," and AI Gene Wilder voices the new trailer for "Wonka's The Golden Ticket" and it's an irritating experience. Jason has never seen a Minions movie, Dolly Parton has a new truck stop, and RIP Victor Willis of The Village People. We try to convince our boss that buying a Ferris wheel is a good business proposition, AITA: Family World Cup ticket debacle, and Blake Lively is asking for Justin Baldoni to pay legal fees. Plus, Bethenny Frankel buys a stake in local haircare company, dpHUE. SCREEN QUEENS: Robyn Bird documentary, "People We Meet on Vacation," and "Inside The Attraction." We play the trailer for "The Devil's Mouth," which looks delightfully trashy. And 7Brew charms seem charming! Brittany Pilcher, Director of Development at Quest Inc., joins Trevor to walk through exactly how her team added a Golden Ticket Raffle to WineQuest , a $500,000 two-night gala in Orlando and sold out 100 tickets in 72 hours.Brittany doesn't sugarcoat the hesitation. She talks through why she almost didn't do it, the moment she decided to pull the trigger three weeks out, and how the raffle pulled in nearly $8,000 of pure incremental revenue without adding meaningful work to her team. More importantly: she breaks down what she'd do differently next year, including running two ticket tiers and considering corporate underwriting to cover the cost upfront. In this episode: why the $100 price point is the sweet spot, when to announce the winner in your program (and when not to), how to get your board and committee actually sharing the raffle, and the part most organizations miss, the 100 new names in your database that you can steward long after the event.Chapters:00:00 Intro01:00 Introduction to the Golden Ticket02:18 Hesitations and Strategies for Ticket Sales06:01 Psychology of Ticket Sales and Winner Announcement 08:49 Impact of the Golden Ticket on Fundraising10:49 Quest Inc.: Mission and Community EngagementHave a question or topic you'd like us to cover? Golden Ticket ep. 825 Rick Danforth is an author from Yorkshire, England, where he works as a Systems Architect to fund his writing habit. His short fiction can be found in On Spec, Metastellar, and many other places. His story The Personal Touch won the BSFA award for Audio Fiction in 2024. Submission guidelines can be found at http://www.TallTaleTV.com ---- About Tall Tale TV ---- Hi there! My name is Chris Herron and I'm an audiobook narrator. In 2015, I suffered from poor Type 1 diabetes control which lead me to become legally blind for almost a year. The doctors didn't give me much hope, predicting an 80% chance that I would never see again. But I refused to give up and changed my lifestyle drastically. Through sheer willpower (and an amazing eye surgeon) I beat the odds and regained my vision. During that difficult time, I couldn't read or write, which was devastating as they had always been a source of comfort for me since childhood. However, my wife took me to the local library where she read out the titles of audiobooks to me. I selected some of my favorite books, such as the Disc World series, Name of the Wind, Harry Potter, and more, and the audiobooks brought these stories to life in a way I had never experienced before. They helped me through the darkest period of my life and I fell in love with audiobooks. Once I regained my vision, I decided to pursue a career as an audiobook narrator instead of a writer. That's why I created Tall Tale TV, to support aspiring authors in the writing communities that I had grown to love before my ordeal. My goal was to help them promote their work by providing a promotional audio short story that showcases their writing skills to readers. They say the strongest form of advertising is word of mouth, so I offer a platform for readers to share these videos and help spread the word about these talented writers. Please consider sharing these stories with your friends and family to support these amazing authors. Life is changing rapidly, thank you very much AI, and increasing your capacity is paramount for your new way of living. Now is your chance to get your train car all set up so you can start adding other train cars (Sunday Baskets®) and be efficient like Rockafeller. Change Why like Rockafeller? This man from PA, refined oil. After refining the oil he had to transport the oil. He placed the oil in barrels. In order to be more efficient, he asked his workers to see how little material they could used to "seal" the metal bands around the barrels. Once he was efficient in that he questioned how could be be more efficient in transportation. Initially the barrels were transported on train cars but they were heavy and lost some oil along the way. So he came up with an oil tanker. The tanker carried a lot more oil without leaking. Curiosity How can you too be curious about everything you do in your homes to increase efficiency? What are your current systems and expectations and are they set for efficiency? I think about my robot vacuum. Grayson's new school has them play outside daily which means dirty shoes so I run it a little more often. But once the baby starts crawling, I plan to run it nightly. I adjust my cleaning standards based on my comfort level of cleanliness and the current phase of my family. I want you to always be asking yourself "Why am I doing this?" "Can someone else do it?" It's a chaotic time of year, like Christmas, but it doesn't affect the majority of the general public so you feel a little crazy.
