Jeff Heggie Daily Success Strategies 448: Sometimes Your Environment Will Shape Your Goals, Sometimes Your Goals May Need To Shape Your Environment The Confident Athlete Program: www.JeffHeggie.com/ConfidentAthlete Recently I had the opportunity to have a conversation with Todd Stottlemyre. He shared some great stories for me to use in my upcoming group coaching call for The Confident Athlete Program. In his book, Relentless Success: 9-Point System for Major League Achievement, he talked about growing up with a father who was a successful Major League pitcher. In the book he talked about his goals being shaped by the environment he lived in. Being around the game and the players was his normal environment and that helped to create the goals he had for himself of becoming a major league baseball player himself. He told me that even though he had people telling him that he would never measure up to his dad and would never become a major league player, that noise was outweighed by constantly being in the environment that made him believe differently. As a three-time World Series Champion, you know which path became his reality. People often ask me how I stay in shape and how I have so much energy. The answer is actually much simpler than people think, it's because I always stay in motion physically and mentally. I realized at a young age, being a professional athlete, that I had to stay in great shape. So I created a workout routine and I haven't missed a workout since I was 18 years old. The same goes for having mental energy. I am always reading and learning and traveling. I love to learn new things and to talk to new people. That keeps my brain in motion and keeps me curious. Now that I am in “retirement age” I believe keeping that physical and mental motion is vital to me living a happy and purposeful life. Being a World Series Champion was amazing but I can honestly say that I enjoy my life today just as much and often more than I did then and it's because I have never stopped moving and learning.
