Send us a text"And if we are faithful in this way, as an organized Church and as its individual members, we will succeed in announcing Christ to the world until all is seen in full light.” (Lumen Gentium, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, from Vatican II in Plain English by Bill Huebsch)I am away this weekend. I am traveling to Rome and Madrid. I am hoping to attend Pope Leo's audience on Wednesday in the Vatican.
Our Lord Jesus continues with His Sermon on the Mount, telling His disciples they are salt and light. These are not insignificant things, but rather essential for life. #Catholic #homily #Scripture #GospelOfTheDay #mercywithteeth Sign up to have podcasts and blog posts emailed to you: http://eepurl.com/ioCgy2 Give feedback at https://forms.gle/gGhujv39g43BUxmK6 Readings are found at https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/012526.cfm True Mercy Has Teeth: A Catholic Journey to Forgiveness and Healing is now available on Amazon and other places as listed at www.mercywithteeth.com
My homily for February 1, 2026. At Sacred Heart Cathedral Prince Albert
Send us a textWe are the disciples on the mountain, listening to every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. The very first word that comes out of Jesus' mouth is “blessed.” Words create realities. The pronouncement of blessing actually conveys the blessing. I have Mass on Sunday, February 1, at St. Isidore @ 7:30/9:30 amThe 7:30 am Mass will be live-streamed. https://stisidore.church/worship-online/frjoedailey@gmail.com
Jesus Christ begins His Sermon on the Mount with a radical invitation to see the world in a new way - this is the meaning of metanoia. He especially invites us to meekness, a quality that these times so desperately need. #Catholic #homily #Scripture #GospelOfTheDay #mercywithteeth Sign up to have podcasts and blog posts emailed to you: http://eepurl.com/ioCgy2 Give feedback at https://forms.gle/gGhujv39g43BUxmK6 Readings are found at https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/020126.cfm True Mercy Has Teeth: A Catholic Journey to Forgiveness and Healing is now available on Amazon and other places as listed at www.mercywithteeth.com
Send us a textAll four of these disciples leave their fishing nets, but they do not stop fishing. They are now, in the nearness of the kingdom of heaven, fishers for people. Their past has not been wiped out; it has been transformed by Jesus' call to follow. I have Mass on Sunday, January 25 at St. Isidore @ 9:30/11:30 amfrjoedailey@gmail.com
Jesus begins his ministry with a message that sums His entire message - Reform. He invites disciples to be conformed to Him and to be transformed to lead others to Him. #Catholic #homily #Scripture #GospelOfTheDay #mercywithteeth Sign up to have podcasts and blog posts emailed to you: http://eepurl.com/ioCgy2 Give feedback at https://forms.gle/gGhujv39g43BUxmK6 Readings are found at https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/012526.cfm
St. John, instead of sharing about the Baptism of the Lord, helps us to reflect on what it means, as John the Baptist witnesses to Jesus as the Lamb of God. “What are you storing things up for?” In this week's Alive reflection for the 18th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Fr. Jonathan Meyer challenges us to take a closer look at our attachment to material and spiritual possessions—through the lens of Luke 12:13–21. Drawing inspiration from the quiet witness of Fr. Hallowell and the parable of the rich fool, Fr. Meyer invites us to ask:

02 Sunday Ordinary Time: Do Whatever He Tells You
11/24/24 - 34th Sunday ordinary times John 18:33-37 NLT33 Then Pilate went back into his headquarters and called for Jesus to be brought to him. “Are you the king of the Jews?” he asked him.34 Jesus replied, “Is this your own question, or did others tell you about me?”35 “Am I a Jew?” Pilate retorted. “Your own people and their leading priests brought you to me for trial. Why? What have you done?”36 Jesus answered, “My Kingdom is not an earthly kingdom. If it were, my followers would fight to keep me from being handed over to the Jewish leaders. But my Kingdom is not of this world.”37 Pilate said, “So you are a king?”Jesus responded, “You say I am a king. Actually, I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. All who love the truth recognize that what I say is true.”
34 Sunday Ordinary Time: Jesus Christ, King of the Universe
32nd Sunday Ordinary Time Sermon Passage: Mark 12:38-44 38 Jesus also taught: “Beware of these teachers of religious law! For they like to parade around in flowing robes and receive respectful greetings as they walk in the marketplaces. 39 And how they love the seats of honor in the synagogues and the head table at banquets. 40 Yet they shamelessly cheat widows out of their property and then pretend to be pious by making long prayers in public. Because of this, they will be more severely punished.”The Widow's Offering41 Jesus sat down near the collection box in the Temple and watched as the crowds dropped in their money. Many rich people put in large amounts. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two small coins.43 Jesus called his disciples to him and said, “I tell you the truth, this poor widow has given more than all the others who are making contributions. 44 For they gave a tiny part of their surplus, but she, poor as she is, has given everything she had to live on.”
33rd Sunday Ordinary Time - Mark 13:1-8 NLT Jesus Speaks about the Future13 As Jesus was leaving the Temple that day, one of his disciples said, “Teacher, look at these magnificent buildings! Look at the impressive stones in the walls.”2 Jesus replied, “Yes, look at these great buildings. But they will be completely demolished. Not one stone will be left on top of another!”3 Later, Jesus sat on the Mount of Olives across the valley from the Temple. Peter, James, John, and Andrew came to him privately and asked him, 4 “Tell us, when will all this happen? What sign will show us that these things are about to be fulfilled?”5 Jesus replied, “Don't let anyone mislead you, 6 for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.' They will deceive many. 7 And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don't panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won't follow immediately. 8 Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many parts of the world, as well as famines. But this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.
