Curtis Sliwa, Guardian Angels founder and Republican mayoral candidate, is sounding the alarm on what he calls a “radical Marxist takeover” of New York City if Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani wins the upcoming mayoral election. In a recent interview with political commentator Alan Skorski, Sliwa blasted Mamdani as an “America-hating, cop-bashing, antisemitic socialist” whose policies, he said, would devastate New York's economy and put its Jewish population at risk. “Mamdani has made it clear he wants to defund the police, impose rent control that would collapse our housing market, and even open government-run grocery stores,” Sliwa said, comparing the proposals to failed Soviet-era policies. He also criticized Mamdani's ties to progressive figures including Linda Sarsour and his past role in Students for Justice in Palestine, noting his refusal to condemn the “Globalize the Intifada” slogan. Sliwa, who has campaigned heavily on public safety, argued that Mamdani's platform would embolden crime. He recalled the Guardian Angels' patrols during the Crown Heights riots, urging New York's Jewish community to strengthen its own defense. “There won't always be a Donald Trump in office,” Sliwa warned. “Antisemitism is rising from both the left and right. Jews must stop relying on others for protection.” On housing, Sliwa said he would focus on converting thousands of vacant properties across the city into affordable units, while scrapping congestion pricing and traffic speed cameras he called “nothing more than extra fines.” Sliwa also invoked the teachings of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, saying Jews should not flee from antisemitism but remain and “fight for themselves.” Running on both the Republican and “Protect Animals” independent line, Sliwa believes his record as a community organizer and advocate for pet owners will resonate with voters across the city. Why do we not have to receive both species at Communion? Is Baptist Communion valid? What is the definition of lukewarm? and more on today's Open Line with Fr. Mitch Pacwa.
Ellen emailed Patrick and asked: "Is it wrong to name my guardian angel?" The Short Answer:Patrick says, “No, don’t name your guardian angel,” because the Church actually says not to. Why not? Angels are right below God in the order of creation, way above us humans. They have authority over us, not the other way around. Your guardian angel is like your heavenly bodyguard, not your pet. Naming means authority. In the Bible, Adam named the animals to show his dominion over them. Since angels have dominion over us, naming them flips the order. God already named them. He’s the Creator, so naming rights are His, not ours. Patrick’s Analogy:It’d be like your dog deciding to name you. That'd be strange! Extra backup:Even Pope Benedict XVI said not to do it. Saints like Padre Pio, St. Teresa of Ávila, and St. John Bosco had close relationships with their guardian angels, but they never named them. What you can do: -Talk to your guardian angel every day. -Ask for guidance and protection. -Foster that friendship, but don't name them.

Fr. Jonathan Romanoski, FSSP is Pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Providence, Rhode Island. He was ordained in 2008. In Today's Show In an ectopic pregnancy situation, can the baby be baptized? What should a person do if they are scrupulous and they lose their spiritual director? If one had to kill another man in a time of war, is that still sinful? I made a general confession months ago and yesterday I remembered a mortal sin that was not confessed. Am I still in a state of grace after remembering it? When a person dies, what happens to their guardian angel? At the particular & last judgement, do you get reviewed for the sins that have been forgiven and you've done penance for? When confessing the sin of impure thoughts, how much detail do we have to give? When I pray, should I address my prayer to “God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit” or if I address my prayer to God does it cover all three? I've been reading the documents of Vatican II and, frankly, I find some of them ambiguous or even contradictory to prior magisterial teachings, especially Dignitatis Humanae and Nostra Aetate. How can we reconcile these texts with the consistent pre-conciliar magisterium without falling into either sedevacantism or blind obedience? Any book recommendations on a Catholic understanding of the end times? Someone told me that FSSP priests are against the use of Father Ripperger's binding prayers & Auxilium christianorum prayers for the laity. Is this true? If so, could you explain why? Is offering your Holy Communion (say for deceased parents) the most powerful prayer because it's offered while receiving? “New Voices” is a series highlighting contributors to journalism, news and politics who are under the age of 30.On this bonus episode of the ChuckToddCast, Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times political journalist Maya King joins Chuck Todd to discuss her evolution from potential activist to political reporter, exploring how the Trump era fundamentally changed political journalism and the misconceptions Democrats harbor about deserving softer media coverage. She explains her approach to checking cynicism while covering politics, the importance of avoiding national lenses when reporting on local NYC politics, and why Mamdani's recent victory proves that persuasion still matters in politics—while arguing that class has always been more significant than race in determining political outcomes. She provides insider insights into The New York Times editorial process, from the multiple layers of fact-checking before publication to the modern reality that push alerts carry more weight than front-page placement in today's digital media landscape. The conversation delves into the evolving NYC mayoral race and the potential for other candidates to coalesce against Mamdani, King also offers broader insights about how giant cities like Atlanta are reshaping state politics, using Georgia as a test case for the "demographics are destiny" theory while noting that Georgia Democrats tend to be more culturally conservative than their national counterparts. Throughout the discussion, King reflects on the challenge of maintaining journalistic integrity in an era where political figures expect coverage to match their partisan preferences, while emphasizing the continued importance of local political reporting that resists oversimplified national narratives.Timeline:00:00 Maya King joins the Chuck ToddCast!01:00 How did Maya get into political journalism?03:15 Why did you choose journalism over activism?04:45 Reporting on politics in the pre-Trump era vs Trump era06:45 Democrats have misconception they deserve softer coverage08:15 How do you check your cynicism about politics?10:00 Can't apply a national lens when covering NYC politics12:15 Persuasion still matters in politics. Patrick responds to listener questions with candor, exploring why the Church discourages naming guardian angels, what makes Eastern rites distinct from the Roman tradition, and how sacramental customs like infant communion developed. He fields practical concerns about lost baptismal records, offers comfort to those struggling with fear and spiritual discouragement, and handles lighter topics such as generational misunderstandings and amusing moments from his past. Even the fate of souls at the world’s end and whether our prayers reach loved ones across eternity come up, causing thoughtful reflection and moments of genuine warmth. Ep 97 Show NotesIn this week's episode, I explore something incredibly close to the heart: why it's so emotional to meet your Guardian Angel. Many of you have experienced my free Meet Your Guardian Angel meditation, and a common response I hear is, “Why did I cry?” The answer is deeply spiritual and soul-shifting.Meeting your Angel isn't a new connection — it's a remembering. Your Angel has been with you every lifetime, possibly even before that. That moment of reunion can feel overwhelming because it carries unconditional love, total acceptance, and a deep knowing that you are never alone. When you feel that seen, that understood, it moves something within you that words can't quite express — even after 15 years of doing this professionally, I still find it hard to describe. In this episode, I also pull Angel cards for the week of July 21st–27th, and there's a big message around decision-making, self-love, trust, and staying grounded. Plus, I share exciting updates from Angel HQ, including our final round of Angel Summer School. If you're ready to connect more deeply with your Angels and learn how to read Angel cards, this is your moment. To meet your Angel and begin this life-changing connection, make sure to download the free meditation — it's linked in the show notes. And remember, if you cry, that's okay. That's your soul recognizing home.Host Bio:Amanda Tooke renowned Spiritual Teacher and NLP Manifestation Coach is the host of the Angel Mystic Podcast. Ronika is a powerhouse, everyone, and not only because she is doing ground breaking work in Ireland, changing people's lives, but also because she never quits! We met through another podcaster and the first time we hung out over Zoom she was in her car...and I come to find out that she, like me, at the time, was house-less and on the road, going from one place to another. Well, needless to say, that did a whole lot to cement our bond, and helped me to understand her resilience. (but more on resilience and Ronika's thoughts on that trait in the episode!) But the more we hung out, the more we got to know one another, I began to understand just what a GEM she is, how driven she is, and how committed she is to making all of her dreams come true! And her miracle? Let's just say it happened when she most needed it...and thank goodness for that! To read more about Ronika and her coolness, here's her website! To check out her books, click here! NEVER FORGET THERE ARE SO MANY MORE EXCELLENT HUMANS THAN ROTTEN APPLES! (this is your PSA for the day!) Chin up, buttercup! Here is your bit of beauty...this short video quickly trying to show how gorgeous Ireland is, but really, do a deeper dive and check it out on your own. The stories and myths are legendary, and so are the people!

We also explore Jesus' question to Peter—“Do you love me more than these?”—and what it reveals about love and leadership among the apostles. Finally, we address the idea that the elect are always a remnant and what that means for salvation. Join The CA Live Club Newsletter: Click Here Invite our apologists to speak at your parish!
