There are many times when we need to tell stories in our business and marketing. Nicola outlines a 5-point plan for making sure you are telling stories with the most impact! Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. On the blog Resistance Visualisation What Does Success Mean To You What To Do With Your Goals Beating Resistance - Tip 1 Beating Resistance - Tip 2 What You Focus On Increases And So It Came To Pass Why People Buy: Guest Sue Okell Prefer to read? Okay, well, it's Nicola here and I'm just about to head off to the Amora Hotel for the SuperFastBusiness Live conference. Starts tomorrow and goes on for the next day, big dinner tomorrow night. But most people are getting together this afternoon as they're sort of arriving in, so I'm going to go down and meet a few people that I've met only online, which is going to be exciting. I've had an amazing week, I've had just an incredible week. I was speaking for a big corporate coaching company on Thursday night, and then they took me out to dinner at Cafe Sydney on Friday night, which was just the most incredible view over Sydney Harbour from the customs house. Then I went down to Wollonngong to see my friends Lorraine and George. Lorraine, where I shared flats with her when we were in our teens, so that's how long we've known each other. And I had to go down on the train and they got the most amazing trains here, they're double deckers! I don't know why I found that so exciting, but I did. So you step onto the train at platform level, and then you can either go upstairs or downstairs. Fabulous. I do, I do get excited about silly things. And that was really lovely. Lorraine laid out a spread in her garden. And it wasn't particularly sunny but it was warm enough to see outside and they've got a little deck and a pool and everything, as they all do over here. And then what happened? Yeah, I've just had a really incredible time going around. I've had my nails done, I've been resting, I've been learning about writing from a master class I bought, and I've been treating myself to lots of lovely deli kind of food and the odd meal out as well as hanging out with my brother quite a lot which is nice. So let's get on with the show, shall we? So this week I want to talk to you about story telling in your marketing. As you probably know, I'm learning how to become an author, how to write a novel, fiction. It's really quite hard work, but there are some principles that I'm finding incredibly helpful in my own marketing and the first principle of storytelling is that, usually, things are told in what's called three acts. So you have the first quarter of a book, then you have the last quarter of a book, and you have the middle section of a book. And this is called the First Act, and this is where the ordinary world of the hero happens and then at the end of the First Act, in what's called an inciting incident happens. An inciting incident is something that calls the hero to adventure and makes them have to make a choice about whether they stay in their ordinary world or go off on this adventure. In the middle section, things now happen to challenge the hero, so there is usually one, possibly two, complications in the hero's life. And at the end of that middle section, at the 75% point, yes that's right, then there's usually some sort of climax or crisis that make the hero have to recommit to their journey or change in some way, there's a change in the hero, and often a change in their circumstances, too. Perhaps a mentor has come along and helped them or given them something special that will enable them knowledge or a tool or a trick of some kind, or magic, that enables them to overcome the crisis at the end of this part of the book. And then the final section of the book is where everything gets resolved.

When I booked a super early-bird ticket to SuperFastBusiness Live last year, little did I realise that not only would I manifest not just one, but two speaking gigs to cover my costs and more, but also the use of a luxury flat overlooking Sydney Harbour! But by working on myself hard, especially over Christmas and New Year, so it came to pass.... Clicks And Leads is a "tongue in cheek" digital marketing Vzine by entrepreneur, author, podcaster, speaker, Nicola Cairncross. On the blog Building An Amazon Business? Limiting Beliefs Negative Beliefs Don't Be Afraid To Give Away The Farm Difficult Conversations Feeling Overwhelmed? You Never Know Who's Watching Who Do You Take Advice From? Cath Couzens: Small is Beautiful Prefer to read? Hi, it's Nicola here, and I am in Sydney, Australia, I've just arrived from England, and a very long flight it was too, but made more bearable by the fact I treated myself to some noise cancelling headphones, which cut out not only the sound of the babies screaming on the plane, but the sound of the engine, it made a huge difference, so I recommend those to you. So here I am in my brother's flat in Potts Point, and I've got the most amazing view, let me just show you out of the window, it's incredible. I'm off up to the Gold Coast tomorrow, to go and speak for Neil Asher, who's a very old friend of mine from England, and he's got an Australian wife, and he's got an Australian business, he's got lots of properties and businesses all around the world, but one of his main ones is the Aussie Online Entrepreneurs, and he teaches people how to make money on Amazon, so he's really, really good at it. So if you're looking to find out how to do that properly then go to NicolaCairncross.com/Asher and you will find a link to his website. But I'm going to be speaking to a room full of 200 Aussie Online Entrepreneurs, I did really well the last time I came, loads of people joined up for my Be Everywhere Online programme and I'm looking to beat my previous record, it was 25% of the room last time. This time it's double the room size, and I'm looking to do more than 25%, I want to welcome more than a quarter of those people in that room into my Be Everywhere Online programme. So let's see how I get on shall we? I want to tell you a bit about how I got here in the middle section. Okay well, in this section I want to tell you a little bit how I got to Sydney in the first place, it was a really, very spooky story, very funny story. Last year some time my mentor, James Schramko, has an event and he put the event tickets for sale, and they're very, very cheap if you buy immediately, so I did that, not knowing whether I'd want to come or not. Not knowing if I'd be ready to get out of Greece, and whether, you know, I was feeling in the mood to travel or anything yet. But I trusted that I would be by this time, because it's now three years since Steve died and I'm not, I miss him every day, but I'm feeling better on a day to day basis. So I bought my ticket anyway and within two days of buying my ticket my friend Neil contacted me and he said, "Do you want to come and speak for my Aussie Online Entrepreneurs again?" He said, "I'd love to have you, "I'm going to be going over there, and you can "stay in my Airbnb and all that business, "I'll make it as easy for you as I can." And so I looked at the dates and James' event is the 3rd and 4th of April, and Neil's event was the 16th and 17th of March. Well that is just phenomenally close, I couldn't believe how close they were, two or three weeks in between them. So I then thought, well okay, I can only do this if I don't have to stay in a hotel, because that would just be ridiculous, and I thought about an Airbnb, and then my brother popped up into my mind and I thought, well he came and stayed with me for five weeks back in Greece last year, so I'm sure he could put up with me for two or three weeks in betwe...
James Schramko here, and my tip today is something that I recommend online businesses take particular attention with, and that is to go personal. One concern I have with all these messenger bots and automations is that we can start to feel processed. And people don't like being processed. So the way to combat that is to take time to do something personal. I'm using Bonjoro videos to send out personal messages to members of my community. I still send out mail with things in it, in the actual post, with a stamp, and that's very effective. And also, sometimes I reach out and I actually get on telephone to someone. But also we run local meetups in SuperFastBusiness, so I'm catching up with members usually once a month. And I certainly travel around and I meet members when I'm visiting them. And then every year I run a live event like SuperFastBusiness Live. The next one is in April 2019. And I run masterminds. And when I get face-to-face with my clients, I find out so much about their needs, I'm able to solve them, document notes, use that information into my products and my training, and also keep retention, which is very important if you have a subscription business. So today's message is go personal. See our products HERE

How to Use Content Marketing with Dan Norris Dan Norris, the founder of wpcurve.com and the author of the Seven Day Startup and is working on another book called Content Machine. I met Dan at Super Fast Business Live 10 earlier this month where I had the pleasure of watching him speak. It is the talk that Dan shared a very moving story about his journey in startups, and he eventually arrives at his current success which is wpcurve.com. Dan shared some insights about startups, including the fact that I must have great design, simple names that are quickly dropped into a conversation like Slack or Uber and the importance of growth. A couple of great insights that he stood out for me from the talk was the idea of trading short-term revenue to long-term growth and secondly the importance of focusing on a monthly increase. Dan used an example saying a $6,000 a month business growing at a 15% will hit a revenue at 2 million dollars in two years and 10 million dollars in 3 years. Dan also loves line chats where he shared plenty of it in his talk as his free life and having been trained as a financial analyst and banking the geek in me was drawn to Dan, and we had a few interesting conversations in the next two days at the conference.
