Have you ever woken up to find that the SaaS platform you've built your consultancy around has introduced AI features that could automate most of your work? This isn't just a hypothetical situation; it's a reality many of us are facing today. In this solo episode, I dive into the significant impact of AI on our industry, inspired by a thought-provoking conversation with Greg Head, who helps non-VC funded SaaS founders.I discuss how AI is not only changing our workflows but also reshaping the entire value chain for tech consultants and SaaS partners. Our episode guest is David Meerman Scott, author of “Fanocracy” and the “New Rules of Marketing and PR” series. David is passionate about the band the Grateful Dead, surfing, and a few other things, as well as sharing research and advice to improve companies' marketing strategies.Five things you'll learn from this episode:How to build fans and customersThe science behind why free things make loyal customersWhy we are fans of thingsThe importance of video for your businessWhy passion is infectious and how your employees can build passion among fansQuotables“One of the things that the Grateful Dead did was they were one of the only bands that did and still do allow fans to record their concerts … You could even bring professional-level recording gear in to record concerts. And so this idea of giving away free content with absolutely no expectation of anything in return, or for that matter, giving any kind of gift without any expectation of anything in return, is a really, really great way to build fans.” — @dmscott“People are surprised by “truly free” because we've been trained that “free” doesn't necessarily mean free. You know, there's all these free offers, but then it comes with some kind of catch.” — @dmscott“It turns out that when we become a fan of something, what we're doing is we're actually wanting to be part of a tribe of like-minded people. That's what all humans are – we're hard-wired for that.” — @dmscott“Communications is about a human relationship with people. It's not something that should be driven by the legal people.” — @dmscott “A cliche I like to share is if attorneys had it their way, you would lock the doors and keep all customers and all employees out of the building. But then you … would just have a building and not a company, right?” — @JasonMudd9“This idea of … sharing what you're passionate about has nothing to do with being a doctor. It has to do with being a human, and that builds fans.” — @dmscott"Authenticity is key.” — @JasonMudd9About David Meerman ScottDavid started writing books, speaking at events, and advising emerging companies on how to align marketing with the ways people buy after being fired from his job. That was back in 2002, and since then his 12 books have sold over 1 million copies in 30 languages. Content is the currency of digital and social media, but it can actually even be more strategic than being a mere currency.Content marketing can not only help build your business, but it can play an instrumental role in building out a category that you own and deliver long-term digital benefits for your company.Think Hubspot - they "own" the term for inbound marketing. If you want to achieve similar results for your company, you'll want to listen in to this interview with Mark Raffan, founder and CEO of the content marketing agency Content Callout.Key Highlights[01:24] Introduction of Podcast Guest, Mark Raffan[03:00] How Mark Got Into Content Marketing[08:04] What Does Establishing Your Own Category Means?[13:30] Importance of Content Marketing in Establishing Own Category[14:36] Create Quality Content[17:00] Timeline and Strategies for Establishing Category[21:01] Don't Forget About the Traditional Pieces[22:38] Difference between Content Marketing Agency from an SEO Agency[24:32] How to Structure Overall Strategy and Choosing the Platform to Post Content OnNotable QuotesWhat's interesting about negotiation, that a lot of marketers don't understand is that negotiation and marketing are very, very similar, because they're both built on the same foundational elements. They're both built on persuasion, they're both built on influence. And when you think of those foundational elements, there's a lot of overlap between those two. It's one thing to rank and it's another thing entirely to maintain, as a low bounce rate so that people actually read your stuff and engage with it and consume it on a regular basis. And that's what you have to create sort of long term. And also the same thing applies when it goes to social when it goes to video. It's got to be stuff that people actually want to consume.Don't create a category unless you can afford to. And what I mean by that is, if you, if you don't have any decent funding, whether it's seed or series funding, this is a task best left to those who do.It all starts with the strategy, get the strategy down first, try and think about who you're going to reach out to, and whether or not this category that you're creating is going to stick within that target group. About this Bonus Episode: Not too long ago I was interviewed by Philip Stutts on his Undefeated Marketing Podcast. Longtime listeners may recognize his name since Philip has been a guest on The Marketing Book Podcast twice: The first time for his book Fire Them Now: The 7 Lies Digital Marketers Sell...And the Truth about Political Strategies that Help Businesses Win More recently to talk about his newest book, The Undefeated Marketing System: How to Grow Your Business and Build Your Audience Using the Secret Formula That Elects Presidents He was also on the show for part of the limited-time series Authors in Quarantine Getting Cocktails when I produced 66 episodes during the lockdown in 2020, and he was one of the primary reasons I started doing it. Philip has a very interesting background. For many many years, he has been a political consultant and has worked on over 1,200 political campaigns including U.S. presidential races in the United States. His political media firm is Go Big Media. Over the years a number of his clients asked for business marketing advice so he later established a separate marketing firm just for businesses Win Big Media. Much of his marketing advice is based on the realities of what has worked well for marketing candidates, and I find that very intriguing and enormously effective these days. Philip and I were introduced by another guest on the show, David Meerman Scott, author of several books including The New Rules of Marketing and PR: How to Use Content Marketing, Podcasting, Social Media, AI, Live Video, and Newsjacking to Reach Buyers Directly (7th edition), and Phillip later introduced me to the legendary Jay Abraham whom I was able to interview on the podcast about his book, The Sticking Point Solution: 9 Ways to Move Your Business from Stagnation to Stunning Growth. Phillip has really enjoyed being on The Marketing Book Podcast and has heard from a lot of marketing book podcast listeners, and he thought that this short interview might be of interest to my listeners because we talked about some key ideas from the first 350 books that have been on the show, and since last week I did publish episode 350 with Dorie Clark about her new book, The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World, this seemed like a nice celebratory bonus. Enjoy! -Douglas Burdett, host of The Marketing Book Podcast Click here for this episode's website page to access all the links mentioned during the interview: https://www.salesartillery.com/marketing-book-podcast/ideas-350-books

In the last episode with Ryo Chiba, we discussed how to increase organic traffic by creating a product that markets itself. In today's episode, we're going to discuss three shifts impacting content marketing and how we can leverage them to grow our business: artificial intelligence, user-generated content, and credibility marketing. We will also go over one tip on how to organize a content team.  Impact of Artificial Intelligence  How is artificial intelligence influencing marketing?  “Marketers are just starting to implement and discover tools around more advanced text generation systems,” Ryo said. “Really what it's going to result in is a commodification of basic content. It's really going to drive the price of creating rudimentary content down to zero, and it's going to put more emphasis for marketers on being able to create content that stands out from the rest of the pack.” Read more at https://monetizationnation.com/blog/how-to-use-content-marketing-to-grow-your-business/

Welcome to the Cracking Content Podcast, helping entrepreneurs to amplify their expertise through storytelling, content and PR so they can get more sales and make a bigger impact. Every business has a story to tell. Don't be afraid to tell it. This week I am delighted to be interviewing Julie Colan, the founder of the Secret Whispers brand and multi award winning Kegel kits. She has also recently launched the CupIT Menstrual Kit. {1:00} The likelihood of developing an issue with your pelvic floor goes up by 50% with the onset of peri-menopause. I was turning 40 the following year, and I remember thinking there's absolutely no way this is happening to me because I've been doing my Kegels since I was 14 and I just assumed every woman did. {1:56} I always imagined it's sitting on the shelf in John Lewis in the exercise department. {2:49} I launched and I didn't expect it to go boom, it's been incredible. It's because I'm happy to stand up and talk about this taboo issue. {10:32} I think it was literally, not even 24 hours later, “what do you think of the hashtag 'Don't ignore the pelvic floor'?” {11.44} Then you managed to get me into Refinery 29, I nearly fell off my chair. {13.22} I went to a local charity in Leicester where they deal with period poverty. {15:13} They're very affordable and if you have any questions or unsure how anything works, just pop on the website, where there are lots of little videos. To get 10% any of the Secret Whispers products – you can use this link https://www.secretwhispers.co.uk/discount/CRACKINGCONTENT Connect with Julie: Julie, a busy mum to two young very active gorgeous sons, wife to an amazing patient husband and a health and fitness enthusiast. Julie, founded Secret Whispers® after she found that were no adequate products available to help her improve her pelvic floor and a lack of information available.  She was horrified to learn that women are led to believe it is ‘normal' to cross their legs when they laugh or sneeze. That urine incontinence after childbirth is almost expected and is challenging the message of multi-national companies, profiting from the sale of incontinence pads, that bladder weakness is normal. Armed with a simple message that, in many cases female incontinence can be avoided, and with her multi award-winning 6 Step Kegel Kit, in just over 2 years she have helped thousands of women stop leaks and strengthen their pelvic floor. Her mission is to dramatically reduce the current statistics of 50% of women who suffer with incontinence with providing education and support on the importance of Kegel exercises. https://www.facebook.com/SecretWhispersUK/ https://www.instagram.com/secretwhispersuk/ https://twitter.com/secretwhisperss www.secretwhispers.co.uk Connect with Claire:  To find out about 1:1 content coaching go www.clairewinter.info. But there is an alternative school of thought which says that public relations is the ideal home for content marketing. In this episode of the Digital Download Podcast, I talk to communications strategist Trevor Young about the strategic use of content marketing for PR and communications purposes, and how it can deepen the connection your brand has with customers and grown your influence. How a Drug Rehab Center Can Use Content Marketing to Get More New Patients What was discussed? Quote of the day: “Don't wish it were easier, wish you were better.” – Jim Rohn 1. Identify Your Ideal Patient You need to know who you want to come into your rehab center. This includes: who will make you the most money? Who is the easiest to work with? Who has the best chance of success? Who is the least amount of work for you? You need to develop and understand this data as your facility grows. Keep statistics on this type of stuff by checking patient records and patient management software. Identify your ideal patient and who you want to build your business with. 2. Consider the Buyer's Journey When we're searching for something online, we become aware that there's an issue and a potential problem that needs to be solved. Next, we consider a potential solution to that problem. Third, we make a decision. We do more research and find out a good fix for the problem that we have. During the first step, when someone becomes aware of an issue and is looking for a solution, they might find your website. Your website needs to have a lot of useful information to answer the many questions they might have. The information needs to include success stories, educational information, facts about rehab facilities, facts about success rate, and more. When they're searching through rehab centers, they're narrowing down which center they're going to choose for their rehabilitation experience. You need to provide value for them in this stage. When they're in the decision stage, be prepared to have customer testimonials, perhaps an onboarding process, and everything they'll need if they choose to use your facility. 3. Focus on Your Audience Understand that content marketing is about your audience, not about you. Often times a company's idea of content marketing is a weekly post promoting their services. You're not going to do this! You're going to develop content that's relevant to your audience. Figure out what types of topics are appropriate for your ideal obvious. Here's a list to get you started: 1. Talk about the services you offer. 2. What does each service treatment entail? 3. Do you specialize in a specific treatment? 4. Do you cater to a special industry? 5. Is there anything family members want to understand? For example, what to watch out for or how to help someone in recovery. 6. Provide drug information. 7. Provide first hand experiences to help those who are considering heading to rehab. 8. Post the latest news in your industry. 9. Answer questions. The big 5 include: the cost or price, problems or things to be aware of, comparison, reviews, and best-of awards. 4. Decide the Type of Content You'll Produce Blog posts, e-books, podcasts, photos, infographics, videos, powerpoints, and so much more. Know who your ideal patient is so that you can communicate with them in a way that suits them. 5. Create a Content Schedule If you can map out when you'll create content, it makes the process a lot easier. Work with your online marketing company or create a team and assign some responsibilities. Figure out if someone in-house or outsourced will create the content for you. Have someone that's just in charge of social media and promoting the content. This will remove a lot of headaches and frustration from the marketing process. Decide on the frequency of your posts and content. Generally, it's good to post a couple times a month at a minimum. Consider national and local events, such as The National Alcohol and Drug Addiction month is a great way to produce meaningful content. You can use this to post content for not just your blog but also post guest posts on other people's sites! For more information on how to create a Content Calendar, check out this blog post on Buffer. 6. Promote Your Content No matter how beautiful, amazing, and attractive your content is – it doesn't matter if no one is seeing it. Keep an email list, update through social media using tools such as Buffer or Hootsuite, and provide value. You want to provide value for your visitors and make sure that you're not spamming social media with updates. Use third-party sites like Medium or LinkedIn to get some more exposure. For more information on crushing it with social media, feel free to check out our blog post. 7. Measure Your Return Are you tracking the amount of traffic that your content is generating? If you have a call to action, add it to the end of the posts and direct people to where you'd like them to go. Use the calls to action to create unique URLs to see which calls to action are getting the most clicks. This is easily done with Google Analytics which lets you use their URL builder to track where traffic is coming from. Google Analytics also lets you see where your referrals are. If you're using marketing software such as Act-On, ActiveCampaign, and HubSpot, make sure you're getting the most out of it! 8. Use Retargeting Retargeting is when someone visits your site and leaves your site, they'll see your ad on other sites they visit. Retargeting for drug rehab centers is difficult since it's not always allowed by certain ad platforms (like Google Adwords). You might have to do some workarounds to get it approved. The reason for this is because if people are looking for a confidential service such as a drug rehab center, then they don't want ads for it popping up on other pages they visit. I'm finally starting to get it. The newbie mindset (or clarity mindset). Your training should "lean" towards the newbies and making a sense of the mess, with some how-to thrown in. If you don't have a blog, YouTube channel, an affiliate program, and lots of free content or search results where people can find you, then that's yet one more tool that your competitors have at their disposal, that you don't. Useful content: weekly podcast, weekly video, weekly blog post. Ideas: roundup your favorite links, post an embed reactor (a YouTube video and your opinion underneath it), become a "data scientist" and share your results Think beyond just a blog: guest posts, podcast, book, viral videos Mild keyword stuffing: use phrases people are searching Marketer of the week: Steve Celeste from InternetPursuit.com (Steve Celeste wasn't actually his real name, and his blog is long gone, but you can check out an archive on the Wayback Machine.) Steve Celeste's blog and marketing training gave me the idea of creating a "build it to sell it" site. We used that model on DailySeminar.com. I didn't want to commit to a chore of having to crank out membership content on a regular basis, so we listed it for sale even as we were launching it. I also made sure things like the Clickbank account, membership software, etc. were all things that could be detached. The site only had 53 members paying $47/month, but we had 55 "weeks" of content (20 minute Monday training, 20 minute Tuesday training, 20 minute Wednesday interview, Thursday bonus report, and Friday question day) created in advance. That part took about 40 hours of total "work" -- mostly recording training. We launched it on December 15th of (year removed but it was over 8 years ago). By February 27th of the following year, we had a buyer for $32,000 for everything. $32,000 from 40 hours? That's not a bad payday. How do you decide what info to give away or charge for? The answer: Use the "William Shatner" model (he has 228 acting credits on IMDB, appeared as himself in 357 more appearances, 9 CDs on Amazon, and 70 books on Amazon). Keep putting stuff out there. Reasons People Buy From You They love you: they buy everything you put out (top 1%) They want it (fad or trend): You got in front of a wave, i.e. everyone's talking about membership sites or one click funnels so you're teaching that They need it: you're solving a real problem (people will always need to know about affiliate programs, copywriting, etc.) Fear, convenience, entertainment What path brings people to you? Our favorite Platinum studnet (Dr. Charles) came from a Jeff Mills guest webinar we presented, then he attended our live event in Salt Lake City and joined our Platinum there. Another Platinum client came from a one-time $997 mastermind session we both attended in Las Vegas. Yet another Platinum student of ours came from a speaking gig where I presented an pitched a $997 offer in San Diego. Blogging and podcasting the "random-ness" (mindset etc) has put me on a path for the big ideas for books and courses. Here's where I stay in inspired and get a "feel" for what's popular and what people want to hear (without becoming a copycat or a me-too): Facebook: Unfollow the negative nelly, political complainers or time vampires on Facebook and instead follow: BusinessInsider, Entrepreneur Magazine, Inc Magazine, Fast Company. Inspiring blogs: Copyblogger, Neil Patel, Ray Edwards, Chris Lema 2nd tier blog: Shoemoney, Digital Marketer, John Chow, Buffer, WPTavern It's also been helpful seeing bloggers like Tim Ferriss from the Four Hour Workweek write long-form blog posts in an era where people are trying to tell you that attention spans are down. John Lee Dumas from Entrepreneur on Fire consistently publishes 5 podcast interviews per week (now well over 1100+) which I find super cool. IMNewsWatch is yet another example of sites that put out tons and tons of helpful free content that lead to things to...

How to Use Content Marketing with Dan Norris Dan Norris, the founder of wpcurve.com and the author of the Seven Day Startup and is working on another book called Content Machine. I met Dan at Super Fast Business Live 10 earlier this month where I had the pleasure of watching him speak. It is the talk that Dan shared a very moving story about his journey in startups, and he eventually arrives at his current success which is wpcurve.com. Dan shared some insights about startups, including the fact that I must have great design, simple names that are quickly dropped into a conversation like Slack or Uber and the importance of growth. A couple of great insights that he stood out for me from the talk was the idea of trading short-term revenue to long-term growth and secondly the importance of focusing on a monthly increase. Dan used an example saying a $6,000 a month business growing at a 15% will hit a revenue at 2 million dollars in two years and 10 million dollars in 3 years. Dan also loves line chats where he shared plenty of it in his talk as his free life and having been trained as a financial analyst and banking the geek in me was drawn to Dan, and we had a few interesting conversations in the next two days at the conference.   Share This Episode: Click To Tweet Resources Mentioned: Click here to download the podcast shownotes http://wpcurve.com/ http://contentmachine.com https://twitter.com/thedannorris The 7 Day Startup: You Don't Learn Until You Launch Content Machine - (To be released on 10th Aug 2015) Key points / Timestamps 5:10 - Some insights from Dan’s upcoming book called the “Content Machine” 7:50 - How to get people interested in your content 13:44 - Who's the target audience of Dan’s new book? 14:48 - The three main sections of Dan’s new book 17:25 - The multiplier framework and the headline 22:17 - On finding quality content writers 26:48 - On video-based content 30:00 - Action steps - How listeners take their content marketing to the next level 31:59 - How to get in contact with Dan

Marcus Sheridan is an entrepreneur that truly understands content marketing.  He was able to take his pool business from the brink of the financial abyss to strong profitability primarily through the use of online content marketing. I absolutely love the story that Marcus has to share, and it was a pleasure to interview him for today's episode of my podcast. To get the full picture, you really need to listen to the podcast; plus you get a better grasp of the fun personality that Marcus has.  It was all I could do to keep myself from busting out laughing during a few parts... Content Marketing Advice However, here's a brief synopsis: Marcus started out as a partner in a small swimming pool business.  However, for a number of reasons, the company started to go downhill after a while.  At this point, Marcus knew he needed to do something differently and started learning about content marketing.  He decided to give it his FULL attention and produce lots of great content on their company website: Riverpoolsandspas.com . It wasn't overnight, but the website started generated more traffic and a lot more interest in their business.  By focusing on the questions customers ask for content (this is critical), he was able to rank well for lots of long tail keywords in Google.  This free traffic, began converting into paying customers. Fast forward a couple of years and their pool business was thriving all because they started marketing their business with content online. Now Marcus focuses the majority of his time teaching others how to use content and inbound marketing in their business.  His blog for this business is at: TheSalesLion.com . I highly recommend that you check out his site and download his free content marketing ebook.  Warning, its over 200 pages long! Because of his experience with his own pool business and now his blog, Marcus consults other businesses on how to have an effective content and inbound marketing strategy.
