James Schramko here and I want to share with you a way that you can actually move your business forward a bit quicker. Sometimes, you have a project that you know you need to do but you're just not doing it. And it's because you don't feel like you have time to do it. Everyone else pushes in front. Well, I suggest a few things. Firstly, block time for yourself. Secondly, create an alter-ego. I recently interviewed Todd Herman about this. He has a book on the subject and you can create a better version of yourself. So think about that project you've been putting off and create the alter-ego of yourself, the version who actually completes that project and is happy about what the project brought to the table. In fact, treat yourself as your own best client. Almost like you're someone else. That technique can help you put the time and effort into it and then everyone else has to fit around that. That's where scheduling comes into it and making sure you pay yourself first and then everyone else can take terms. In my life, I like to surf every day. Me surfing every day is number one priority and then everything has to fit around that. And I know a lot of people say I don't have time. You do have time. You've got so much time, it's ridiculous. The average American spends five or six hours a day watching videos which is one reason why I make videos. But I also keep my videos really short. So stop watching Netflix and start making your next project for your alter-ego version of yourself and see if that helps. I'm James Schramko. I hope you've enjoyed this. How do you deal with a team member who lets you down? James talks about how to handle poor job performance.
James Schramko here, and today I want to share a special important point about your business career and your future. Here's the fact, certain things happen to you that's for sure. You were born, you didn't have much control over that and then for a certain period in your life, there's other people taking control and programming you and formatting you the way that they thought was probably best for you. And some people have a difference between a really good upbringing or a terrible upbringing. But the point is, once you're an adult and fully functioning, you can now take the reins. You are in control of your destiny. You get to choose what you do today. So, start making choices that benefit you. So, really now, it just comes down to letting go of the excuses and letting go of the shackles and the ropes that bind you in the past and deciding that you want to make a change, that you are ready to move forward, and you take the steps. The person looking back at you in the mirror is the one in the driver's seat for your future. So, I hope this gives you a little bit of inspiration, and I look forward to seeing what you can do with that. See our products HERE.

James Schramko here. I want to talk about a problem that you can have and you may not even be aware of this. So, one thing facing the average business owner is that you're going to have at some point a team. Now, what happens if you have too few team members? Well, the situation is that you start sabotaging your ability to go and win new business because you know secretly deep down, whether consciously or unconsciously, that you can't deal with the business if you win it so you stop trying. And if you do get the business then now you don't have enough capacity and you'll deliver a bad result the customer won't come back. Now on the flip side, if you have a few too many people in your team that's OK because now you have people cross-training. You've got depth. If someone leaves or goes away, it's not going to interrupt the flow of business. You can deliver a fast and excellent result for your customers and the worst thing that can happen is that you eat into a little bit of profit. But I would rather run over capacity than under capacity when it comes to team, and if you've got extra people around doing nothing, find a project for them to do. I call this an infinity project, and that is a project they can work on if we're not busy on the front-end office stuff. They can go and do this forever. It could be creating a blog in your space or something on your passion or hobby as I do. But in the meantime, you're out there winning business knowing that you can handle it because you've got the right amount of team, which is however many you need plus a little bit extra. James Schramko here. So I just went to the shops and there's something missing from many shops that they need to have. I purchased something after I found an assistant (which took forever). And then on my way out of the shop, the buzzer was beeping because my assistant didn't deactivate whatever security device was in the item that I purchased. So I felt a little bit uncomfortable about that and then I had to go and track down the assistant again to have it fixed. So my tip today is: whatever product or service you have, make sure you have a great level of service. It's such a basic requirement that so many big companies miss. Hope you've enjoyed today's tip. 8 short tips on how to get more podcast listeners.
James Schramko here, and if there is one piece of real estate that I really cherish in my business, it's this - I send out an email most weeks because I do new podcasts, and in that email is a P.S. And the P.S. is a call to action. It does not have to be related to what's in the email. It could be a way that you could gently make an offer. Often, I'm putting my book or my audible for the book Work Less Make More. And no matter what the email is about that P.S. is very, very useful real estate. Below the P.S., you can still put a signature file. You can put a bunch of links if you want, but make sure you're using your P.S. And the P.S. is especially good for reinforcing whatever was in the email itself because most people skip down. They do the subject line, they're having a little scan of the email, but the P.S. almost always stands out, and you will definitely get a lot of clicks. See our products HERE.
James Schramko here. Today I want to share with you a way that you can have customers saying nice things about you. So there's this fairly obvious thing that you could do, and maybe you're not doing it right now. And if you're not, then you're in for a treat. That is to ask your customers if they would say something nice. Generally you can put this as an email follow-up sequence, you could have it at some point in the cycle when you're helping someone solve their problems. I certainly know that at the high-level customer mark, I'm asking my customers before they renew at six months how it's gone and if they'd like to make a comment about that. And all of them are happy to contribute some nice words to put on my homepage or somewhere in my sales material. And I feel like I've earned it at that point. So I wouldn't ask too early. I'd make sure you're getting a success for your customers, and then ask. And by the way, if a customer ever sends you an unsolicited testimonial or replies to you privately about what a great result that you have been able to achieve for them, ask them if it's okay to publish something like that. And you can use that on a book cover, you could use it on a sales page, you could ask them to post it in front of other members, either publicly or within your membership. And it's a great way to let other people know that you are getting results. And the reason it's so powerful is it builds trust, and it is a case study. It's a demonstration of what you're able to do rather than you saying it. If your customer's getting the results, then you become the guide and your customer has become the hero, and everything will work smoothly. I hope you've enjoyed this tip today. James Schramko here. Today, I'm going to share with you an idea on how you can actually keep tabs on your progress but it's not an onerous way. It's a very simple way, deceptively simple but it's super powerful. So one thing that I do each week is I have a team meeting. It's around about 15 minutes where I meet with my team virtually, of course, because they're not in the same country most of the time. And we talk about where we're at as a business, what's the overarching goal that we have, what are the little components, what's each person working on, and that way we can coordinate with each other. We all respect and understand what everyone has on their agenda. We know how we can contribute and help but we're also keeping tabs on our progress. This is a great time to discuss where we've made improvements, where we want to change, it's a way to transfer culture and concepts. And it means that you start to become a movement or something bigger than just a job, okay? So it's a collaboration. It's exciting and interesting but it's also short and it's a recurring alert in my schedule so it happens every week. If I think of something I want to talk about, I just put a diary note in that alert and that way in just 15 minutes per week, I can stay on top of things and everyone knows exactly what's happening. I recommend it for your business. I've got more tips like this in my book, Work Less Make More. It's available on Amazon and also Audible. Grab the Work Less Make More HERE.
James Schramko here and I want to talk about decision making today. One thing that I think holds business owners back is when they're waiting for all of the information to come and they simply spend too much time processing and thinking about stuff. I've seen people lose great candidates because they're still thinking about stuff. I've seen people miss out on business growth and opportunity because they're still working on the minute detail. The fact is if you could just get most of the details and move forward fairly quickly and make a decision and get on with it then that is often the best thing. It's like if you're in a department store and you see a nice shirt that you think looks quite good and they happen to have your size and you try it on and it fits, just buy it and move on rather than go home and think about it and ponder it and see if it's there next week and often it'll be out of stock or it'll be gone. So, I've found that making reasonably fast decisions with most of the information will actually get you a better result. I hope you've enjoyed this. I'll catch up with you soon. James Schramko here, and today one of my students asked me, how do you build confidence? What if you're feeling intimidated out there in business? And my answer is, build up your self esteem by banking wins. Think about successes you've already had, and lock that in. So instead of focusing on all the things that could go wrong, and all the things that you tried before and didn't make successful, focus instead on things that you did well. It could be small things to start with, and lock it in. Bank that to your self esteem and accept the fact that you have had wins, and you will have wins in the future, and that's how you become more confident. Hope you've enjoyed this training, I'll see you tomorrow. See our products HERE.
James Schramko here. Today, I want toshare with you what my workspace looks like because a couple of people have asked what sort of equipment do I use so we're going to flip over and are you ready? Here we go. Just the quick tour is I've got some sound protection here to make sure that the sound has been captured. I've got a shield there for when I'm podcasting. I've got a backup recorder, I've got an Apple home pod which I can use. It helps me especially when I'm cooking to set alerts. I've got a light that I usually use when I'm videoing, I've got this LG 5k monitor which also has a camera built-in. And I've got a podcasting mic and a Mac air. So that's about it. There's a wireless keyboard and mouse. And, of course, Sony headphones which are really great for noise cancelling. In fact, I use those sometimes on this beanbag here which I can just lie down, put the headphones on, and read a Kindle on my iPad. So that's a little look of what we're using here, the set up. Most of the videos I'm making have just a plain backdrop which is very easy to light. I'm not even using any microphone or light right now, other than what's in the ceiling and you can see that it's very effective. So you don't need a lot of equipment to do an online job but make sure it's really good stuff that makes you feel productive. That's my main tip. See our products HERE.
James here and I'm just down at the shops and I ordered a coffee and when I finished, the lady said, "Will that be under the name James?" And I remember not telling her my name and it was written on the cup when I got it. And I figured she probably lifted it from my credit card when I paid for the meal. So, that's just a simple thing that she did that made the experience feel more customized and it was clever. So, if you have a shop or you're handling customers' details, don't ask them something if the details are already in front of you because that just shows people you don't care. See our products HERE.
