IRAs, like most products subject to government rules, can garner confusion among individuals as they are presented with uncommon circumstances. Donna and Nathan discuss some of the more tricky questions that we receive about IRAs, including: whether you can put an IRA into a trust, what happens if you and your beneficiaries pass away together, can you borrow from your IRA, is a back door Roth IRA conversion always a good idea, and more. We read a book by Michael Batnick, called Big Mistakes: The Best Investors and Their Worst Investments. And learning from people's mistakes is something that we all love to do because we'd prefer not to make them ourselves. So we thought this would be a great episode because in life we all make mistakes, it is the response to error that counts.Download your Free Private Lending Report here: www.freedomcapitalinvestments.com/lendingDownload your Freedom # worksheet here: www.freedomcapitalinvestments.com/worksheetClick on the Social Media links: www.facebook.com/groups/freedomthroughpassiveincomewww.linkedin.com/groups/14048250—————————————————————————The 1st mistake is even the smartest people have mental lapses and fall prey to poor investment decisions. And we have done this before in our own businesses and we were just going so fast that we just didn't remember. But now we can just recover really quick, because we understand where we were. Number 2, is being smart in one field does not necessarily translate to being a good investor. In other words, being a smart doctor or lawyer doesn't ensure investing success. 3rd, it is important to learn from the mistakes of others to avoid repeating those same mistakes and to protect and enhance your portfolio. We've always said, we're big on coaches and masterminds. And we do that because we want to learn from mistakes of other people. Number 4, be ready to face challenges and obstacles and arm yourself with an advanced plan for all possibilities and unplanned circumstances. When we first started, it was go and whatever happens, happens. But as we got better and started doing more deals we found out what to watch out for. Number 5, focus on taking smart risks and exercise utmost caution, even when something looks incredible, and can't fail. There's nothing in life that can't fail, everything can fail. Number 6, understand that there are times when no one can escape from economic realities and major crashes. So you just have to be prepared for everything. You can't escape it but you surely can navigate through it. Number 7is recognize your investing behavior, biases and tendencies to avoid or mitigate investment losses. Are you type A, B, C or D and based on knowing that and now empowers you to be able to invest in things that you are truly comfortable with and be able to avoid the type of investments that does not match our investing needs.Join our groups on Facebook and LinkedIn.www.facebook.com/groups/freedomthroughpassiveincomewww.linkedin.com/groups/14048250www.FreedomCapitalInvestments.com—————————————————————————Connect with us here:FB personal pageswww.facebook.com/Flipsterwww.facebook.com/dani.lynn.robisonLinkedIn personal pageswww.linkedin.com/in/fliprobisonwww.linkedin.com/in/danilynnrobisonInstagram personal pageswww.instagram.com/fliprobisonwww.instagram.com/danilynn23TikTok personal pageswww.tiktok.com/@danilynnrobisonwww.tiktok.com/@fliprobison

Don't risk too much money, lose money because that's the only way that you're going to learn them. And believe me, you will lose money, but keep it reasonable. Keep it small. Don't put yourself in a position where you're overextending yourself, but I don't think that anybody could tell you how to invest. Nobody could say, don't buy active mutual funds. Don't buy index funds. They're boring. Don't do this. Don't do that. You have to figure it out on your own. And some people never get there.”– Michael Batnick Lesson 5: “The only way to learn what style of investing matches your personality is to invest. And nobody could tell you what it feels like to lose money. So, you have to experience that on your own.”– Michael Batnick You can also check out Andrew’s books How to Start Building Your Wealth Investing in the Stock Market My Worst Investment Ever 9 Valuation Mistakes and How to Avoid Them Transform Your Business with Dr.Deming’s 14 Points Connect with Michael Batnick: theirrelevantinvestor.com LinkedIn Twitter Connect with Andrew Stotz: astotz.com Linkedin Facebook Instagram Twitter Youtube My Worst Investment Ever Podcast

Here's some good news for investors: If you've ever made a disastrous trade, you're not alone. All of the greats have made horrible moves as well. On this week's Odd Lots podcast, we speak to Michael Batnick, the director of research at Ritholtz Wealth Management, and the author of a new book 'Big Mistakes: The Best Investors and Their Worst Investments.' We talk about great errors from the likes of Warren Buffett, Bill Ackman, Jesse Livermore and many others. In addition to going through their blunders, Batnick explains some basic lessons that investors can take away from these going forward in their own money moves.
I sit down with Michael Batnick, author of "Big Mistakes: The Best Investors and Their Worst Investments." Some of Wall Street's greatest missteps are well documented: Bill Ackman's attempt at activism in JC Penny, or Warren Buffet's go-around with Salomon Brothers are two famous examples. However the great investors of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries ALL have their own investment blunders. Some went on to thrive after, while others called it quits. Michael Batnick and I spend 30 minutes analyzing these infamous lapses in judgement, INCLUDING Mark Twain's (yes the writer!) attempts at venture capitalism (yes he passed on an investment in Alexander Graham Bell's telephone)
Even the best investors make terrible investing mistakes. Michael Batnick talks about his new book, Big Mistakes: The Best Investors and Their Worst Investments.
