For many years the soundtrack has been a great way to break artist, try out records & utilize motion picture studio budgets in the music space. The Who's The Man soundtrack does all of the above. From promoting known Uptown/MCA acts like Mary J. Blige & Jodeci to breaking newer acts the BIG (later known as The Notorious B.I.G.) this soundtrack was the perfect setting for some amazing music to be showcased. 30 years later Torae and Bonsu run it back to see how these records have stood the test of time.
He's back on the scene and about to drop a new album "Black Disney" . https://hindsight-media-radio-103-5-fm.radio-site.com/ Hello Hindsighters, Check out The Indie Grind with Host Rhasheeda Davis speaks with R&B/Jazz Indie Artist Carlos Budd Ford about his music, upcoming projects and his daily grind in the music industry. Heard only on Hindsight Media Radio 103.5 FM, where there's always "Something Good To Talk About". https://carlosbuddford.com/ A voice like no other, the authentic and uniquely sensually soulful vocals of Carlos Budd Ford have a distinction all their own. Looking to feel a void left by melodically entrancing R&B legends of yesteryear, Carlos is ready to embark on what seems at times (at least according to what's played regularly on today's radio) a perilous journey. Hailing from Los Angeles, California by way of Kansas City, Missouri, this country boy is prepared to seduce minds and bodies with a lethal mix of Soulful R&B, splashed with a twist of smooth jazz and hip hop flavoring. Once signed to legendary major urban labels; Uptown/MCA and Ruffhouse/Columbia respectively as one of the lead vocalist in the group Four Sure, Carlos seized upon the opportunity to learn valuable life lessons in both work ethic and perseverance from a virtual who's who of seasoned vets and up and coming label mates.
Markuann Smith is the definition of American Hustle in every aspect.  From his birth to Hollywood Markuann Smith is impacting the Millennial culture of Music and film.  Pay close attention to this amazing interview and listen for the "MAJOR KEYS" of success! Hey Siri, play the Million Dollar Mindset Podcast. From a very young age, Markuann Smith knew that failure was not an  option, and always used that as his motto. Born in Harlem, New York,  Markuann spent a majority of his time in Queens, attending Far Rockaway  High School and, later on, Garden State Academy. Considered a "no man's  land", Far Rockaway was certainly a learning experience. While the  average kid was going away to camp, Markuann and his peers were pouring  out liquor and hoping to survive the tough summers. While the  streets were rough, his household did not offer much of an escape.  Markuann's mother worked three jobs to maintain their lifestyle, so in a  sense he raised himself. His resentment caused him to rebel and he  bumped heads with his stepfather quite often. Because of these actions,  Markuann's mother kicked him out of the house at a very young age,  forcing him to mature faster than he anticipated. While it seemed  that all hope was lost, reprieve presented itself at the perfect time.  While in high school, Markuann's brother, Father M.C., got a record deal  with Uptown MCA records - one of the most popular Hip Hop and R&B  labels of the early 1990s - at the start of the New Jack Swing era. He  began touring - taking Markuann with him - exposing Markuann to the  likes of Tupac, Toni Tony Tone, Digital Underground and Boyz II Men to  name a few. He started off as a roadie where Sean "Diddy" Combs -  who went from intern to top executive at the label - taught him how to  be a hype man and get the crowd excited. It was then that Markuann truly  caught the entertainment bug. Upon returning home from tour, he  attended Morgan State University where he minored in Theater. Although  the tour triggered the bug, Markuann always had a passion for acting.  As a child, he was exposed to many different types of films because he  spent a lot of time alone at home, and movies were a constant companion.  This exposure nurtured his love for the craft of film, as he considered  those movies an escape from his reality. He worked very hard,  and his dedication has paid off. Markuann has had roles on the "Chapelle  Show", as well as movies such as "Juice", "Poetic Justice" and "Code  Blue", and the award-winning short film "A Good Day to Die". He has also  hosted the All Hip Hop TV segment on the AllHipHop.com website, and was  recently tapped to be featured in the upcoming VH-1 series starring  rapper Pepa, entitled "Let's Talk About Pep". Markuann's ultimate goal  is to move people: whether its to laugh to cry, it's all about the  emotional connection. Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/million-dollar-mindset/donationsAdvertising Inquiries: https://redcircle.com/brandsPrivacy & Opt-Out: https://redcircle.com/privacy

Jeff Redd is an American singer who performed new jack swing-style R&B music in the 1990s. A New York native, Redd began singing with the short-lived group, The Sophisticated Gents, at the age of 17 in the mid-1980s. Redd has also appeared on Sesame Street.Redd signed a deal with Uptown Records/MCA Records after André Harrell saw him perform as a solo artist. Uptown/MCA produced his 1990 debut album A Quiet Storm. It included the uptempo new jack swing tracks "I Found Lovin'" and "Come and Get Your Lovin'," and the ballad "Love High." Two of the album's singles found their way onto the Billboard R&B chart: "What Goes Around Comes Around" reached #53, and "Love High" reached #16.The album A Quiet Storm had major producers such as Devante Swing from Jodeci and Timmy Allen as well as The Untouchables Dave "Jam" Hall and Eddie F. It had a strong underground following in the UK, where it fared well by being played on Black radio stations. Remixes were played on Westwood's Capital Rap Show New Jack Swing segment. He released a song entitled "You Called and Told Me" from the Strictly Business soundtrack in 1991.Redd played a large part in getting then-unknown singer Mary J. Blige her start in the music industry. While working on the assembly line at General Motors, Redd met Blige's stepfather, who gave Redd a tape that featured Blige performing Anita Baker's "Caught Up in the Rapture." After hearing the tape, Redd helped her get signed to Uptown Records. Blige then toured with Redd as one of his backup singers. In 1993, Redd recorded a second album, Down Low. However, before the album could see release, MCA shuttered their entire black music department. As a result, only 1000 copies ever circulated, and the album is very hard to find. Some of the album was produced by rapper Lord Finesse.Jeff Redd then went on to work as an A&R executive at MCA Records. While at MCA, Redd worked with artists like Regina Belle and K-Ci & JoJo. When MCA closed their doors in 2003, Redd established his own independent label, Sol Real Records, LLC. Under this banner, Redd currently works with artists Akili, Blaq Rose and Forever, among others. In 2007, Redd released an album entitled Jeff Redd Presents: The Essence of Soul, a sampler which features tracks from each of these artists. In April 2010, Redd released "Take You Higher".
