In this beautifully delivered message, Khia Cross shares with us a message coming from the book of Luke where she is looking at two stories in Luke 1 where some biblical figures are getting a sure word/promise from the Lord and the different responses to these promises we see from these individuals. Joining us for this special Thanksgiving week episode is Kathleen Wright, the director of production operations at Macy's and the woman responsible for orchestrating the magic behind the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Since 1924, the parade has delighted New Yorkers and folks across the country and will be celebrating 100 years in 2026; the parade was canceled for three years during World War 2. Kathleen is a marathon runner too, having run the TCS New York City Marathon multiple times, and notices the similarities between the parade and the marathon when it comes to bringing community together, including thousands of volunteers who turn out to help. Many are Macy's employees and their families who return each year as part of their Thanksgiving traditions. And for our Member Moment, Meb talks with the winner of the Every Woman's Marathon in Savannah, Khia Kurtenbach. Khia reflects on how her mother, an avid marathoner herself, inspired her to run the distance. FOLLOW NYRR: Instagram | Facebook | X | TikTok SUPPORT: Support the Set the Pace podcast! Recently I got into the band Mannequin Pussy, and I thought it's interesting that they have trouble with censors in media and platforms such as Tiktok, for "pussy", a word that not that long ago was acceptable to use in any context because it had two meanings - cat and genitals. So we're exploring how it shifted over time from first meaning only cat, to then meaning cat and genitals, to now meaning only genitals. And now, it's even become grammaticized to a suffix in -ussy, as in bussy, pizussy, clussy, etc. And what better song to represent pussy than Khia's "My Neck My Back"? Please, don't waste my timeussy, there is no better song. In Eurovision we talk about the opposite of a pussy, a tower, with Poland's 2024 offering "The Tower" by Luna. And we talk about what Polish people call the female genitalia. Amanda kicks the episode sharing why black models have boycotted Melbourne Fashion Week due to instances of racism and underpayment. Amanda introduces a new segment called "Voting and Venting," aiming to address voter apathy in the Black community and restore belief in the political system by providing historical knowledge and current information. She discusses recent headlines, from the reopening of areas in West Maui following wildfires to the end of criminal prosecutions in the Flint Water Crisis, and Magic Johnson becoming a billionaire. In Blackurate News, Amanda highlights Bowie State University's initiative to offer inmates in Maryland the opportunity to earn degrees while incarcerated, The episode explores Khia's comments on the new class of female rappers, and Seales tests your knowledge with her Black Pop Quiz segment. Listen, Laugh, and Learn with The Amanda Seales Show FOLLOW ALONG AS WE COVER: (4:07) - Black models boycotted Melbourne Fashion Week due to racism in Australian fashion industry. The models shared that they've seen staff use racial slurs in front of them, and hairdressers are not shy when it comes to making derogatory and degrading comments about their hair. Two models said they discovered they were grossly underpaid compared to their white counterparts. (7:47) - It's the Amanda Seales Show, I'm Amanda Seales… And now it's time for a segment, we're calling “Voting and Venting." Voter apathy is a serious issue in the Black community for numerous reasons, like, ya know, voter disenfranchisement! But I personally believe that with more historical knowledge and current information, our belief in the political system can be restored. In this segment, we're gonna vent a little, but also weigh in on some important voting matters with experts. (11:04) - 60 Second Headlines Story 1: Today areas of West Maui will reopen to tourism following the deadliest US wildfire in more than a century. Story 2: More than two months after white boaters attacked a Black riverboat captain in Montgomery, Ala., two of the five people charged in the Alabama Brawl have pleaded guilty. Story 3: The next installment of National Geographic's GENIUS franchise will focus on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, and how their dueling philosophies helped usher America through the Civil Rights Movement. The eight-part series “Genius: MLK/X” will premiere in February on the National Geographic channel. Story 4: The Michigan Attorney General's Office is officially ending its pursuit of criminal prosecutions over the Flint Water Crisis after 7 years of no convictions. The Flint prosecution team says the cases are now closed. Story 5: According to Forbes…Magic Johnson is officially a billionaire, becoming the fourth athlete to earn that title. (13:35) - We'll go to the phone lines – 1 855 262 6328. (16:44) - Coming up this hour in Blackurate News: One HBCU is stepping up in the lives of inmates. We'll tell you how. That's not my ministry with Rita Brent plus, today's Big Up/Let Down starring Lauryn Hill and a former NBA basketball player. (18:30) - Bowie State University is the first HBCU to offer Maryland inmates the opportunity to complete study courses. Students can get their degree while behind bars, all thanks to a partnership between Bowie State and Jessup Correctional Institute. Since the initiative launched this year, seven men who are studying to obtain either a bachelor's degree or Entrepreneurship certificate have completed their first semester. (21:57) - That's not my ministry with Rita Brent. (26:00) - Big Up - Goes to Lauryn Hill's fans for sticking beside her! Recently announced she is postponing her Fort Worth Tour Date To “Rest The Voice” due to vocal strain. She's had a history of showing up late to shows and performing for a brief time. Fans continue to buy tickets, support, and root her on. Side note: Beyonce did 50-11 shows domestically and internationally, while being a mom, dancing hard AF, dropping a perfume line, and didn't complain about vocal or body strain. Maybe Lauryn needs to be on her diet OR let the crowd sing the lyrics. Let Down - To Joe Smith and his wife for doing a live advertisement on Twitter, thinking we wouldn't figure it out! His longtime partner posted a video of him reacting in real time to her saying she has an Only Fans account. She continued to record him despite his visible anger; it all bordered disrespect for the sake of clout. (29:29) - We'll go to the phone lines. (31:42) - Coming up this hour… Khia says she isn't like the new rap girls. Letoya Luckett will join us for “Back of the Class”. We'll go Black around the world and we've got a Blop Quiz… Issa Black Pop Quiz that's what it is. (33:49) - Recently the rapper, Khia, made waves when she had this to say about people comparing her to the new class of female rappers. (38:16) – Back of the Class w/ Latoya Luckett. (42:59) – It's a Black Pop Quiz what it is! (46:49) – We'll go back to the phonelines. (50:45) – Word of the Day – Eldritch. (54:53) – Politicians say the darnedest things. Hip Hop and Rap in the year 2001 was a HUGE year! The music and production began to push the boundaries for a new sound while the world was introduced to so many new artists. 2001 introduced us to Fabolous, St. Lunatics, Bubba Sparxxx, Khia, Mr. Cheeks & Petey Pablo. I combined 56 records that best reflected this particular year in one mix to take us back down memory lane. So put on that throwback jersey, Sean John jeans with the Lugz boots! This is the best of 2001, Hip Hop!www.djjeucebox.com/podcast

Philly native and Brooklyn resident Khia Nelson is founder and owner of K Bloody Mary Mix, an overnight success after 10 years of hard work. Winner of the 2020 Good Food Awards, a major specialty food competition, and Gold Medal Winner of Fifty Best in 2021, Khia's plugging away one step at a time is really paying off. And no wonder. Her unique formula is organic, vegan and gluten free and that equals a unique taste. Her mix is not just hot, it's savory and begs to be rolled around in the mouth like fine wine. Fabulous with alcohol in the traditional Bloody Mary, Bloody Maria or Red Snapper, it also is delicious and refreshing over ice. So, it's the perfect item for any party to surprise both the alcohol and non-alcohol guests equally. It's such a versatile elixir it also doubles as an addition to a cocktail sauce recipe or a marinade to add a spicy kick to your favorite foods. All this because of Khia's background. 20 Years in hospitality as a bartender, restaurant manager and vegan home chef, she has always been a fanatic Bloody Mary lover. But she was always constantly tweaking her recipes because she never quite fell in love with other people's mixes. It was at a social gathering a decade ago that Khia's dream of starting her own company was conceived. She was always experimenting with her recipes during her bartending stints, but at this particular event, her latest creation drew raves and accolades just too good let pass as mere kudos. It was a sign that she had something special and it was time to share that recipe with the world. Khia had other goals for her recipe besides great taste, she wanted it to be of the highest nutritional and sustainable qualities. Therefore, her mixes are hand made and bottled in Brooklyn, New York. All ingredients are organic and gluten free (other Bloody Mary mixes contain Worcestershire sauce, which contains anchovies). All are bottled in glass, which is recyclable and easier on Mother Earth than plastic. This makes K Bloody Mary Mix more expensive than most other mixes, but you get what you pay for. Great side story: Khia and our host Sarah Marshall first met at the Good Food Mercantile Awards in Brooklyn setting up booths across from each other. Khia offered Sarah a bottle of her mix and it wound up being a meal for Sarah. In the rush and hectic race to set up for the show, Sarah hadn't had time to eat any breakfast, but the rich, nutritious K Bloody Mary filled her up, gave her energy and the spicy flavor gave her a much needed recharge to get her through the day. You can purchase bottles online at the website and the packaging is absolutely gorgeous. Gift packages also are available and make very special presents. Distribution is growing but check the website for stores near to you and also for restaurants that serve the mix. And somehow, with all this going on in her life, Khia also is a former model, animal rescue advocate, animal lover and eclectic music lover. https://www.kbloodymarymix.com/the-mix/, FB and IG @kbloodymarymix, Twitter @kbloodymary Our hosts: Twitter - @sarahmasoni and @spicymarshall, Instagram - @masoniandmarshall
