Locked On Longhorns - Daily Podcast On Texas Longhorns Football & Basketball
When you think of dominant defensive players in college football, who comes to mind if you were to make that list exclusive to the University of Texas. If you struggled to think of some names from recent Texas teams, I don't blame you and that is part of the reason that Texas has not lived up to the lofty expectations over the last decade plus. Texas has a chance to bring in a player like Colin Simmons, that could transcend what we've seen from that position at Texas in a long time. On today's episode of Locked on Longhorns we discuss why Colin Simmons might be the biggest recruiting win we have seen at the University of Texas since the Mack Brown era and why a player of his caliber could help Texas win conference and national championships. We discuss the dominance of Steve Sarkisian, Kyle Flood and Tashard Choice on the recruiting trail over the years and what that means for Texas moving forward. Marcus Carr, Timmy Allen, and Jabari Rice all made it to the NBA as well on summer league or two way contracts. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! FanDuel Make Every Moment More. Locked On Longhorns - Daily Podcast On Texas Longhorns Football & Basketball
Survive and Advance. Survive and Advance. Rodney Terry and the Texas Basketball Team are headed to the round of 32 after a big twenty point win against Colgate in the first round. En route to the Sweet 16, Penn State stands in their way, who spoiled a potential Lone Star Showdown between Texas and Texas A&M. With this Texas Basketball Team looking for its first trip to the Sweet 16 since 2014 and Rodney Terry essentially coaching for his job in every game, do they have what it takes to win? If so, we're going to have to continue to see big performances from guys like Dylan Disu and Sir Jabari Rice who were the stars of the show last night. Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen had great overall games as well and Texas did a number on the best three point shooting team in the country defensively. Penn State shoots the three ball really well as well and so Texas will have to be focused to make it to the next round. The Texas Baseball team has won 7 straight games and will look to make it 10 against New Orleans this weekend. Hook Em Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Longhorns - Daily Podcast On Texas Longhorns Football & Basketball
The Texas Longhorns Football Team has talent at the Quarterback position that we haven't seen in a while, maybe ever. Quinn Ewers, Arch Manning, and Maalik Murphy probably represent more high-end potential than any other Quarterback room in College Football. But in my estimation, Texas might have a QB2 problem. As talented as Arch Manning is, he's a true Freshman, and to have to rely on him to win games this year is a lot of pressure even with his pedigree. Maalik Murphy is a physical specimen at the Quarterback position but has not been able to stay healthy in a year at the University of Texas. How will this situation shake out going into a make-or-break year for the Longhorns? The Texas Men's Basketball team advanced to the semifinals in the Big 12 Tournament beating Oklahoma State and facing off against TCU tonight. Two games away from a Big 12 tournament title, without Timmy Allen, can Rodney Terry rally this squad to cut down the nets? Ten forever longhorns participated in the Pro Day at the 40 acres with hopes of making the National Football League and the Texas Baseball team has a huge weekend series against the Manhattan Jaspers to get back on track. Locked On Longhorns - Daily Podcast On Texas Longhorns Football & Basketball
I'm listening to Melodies From Heaven by Kirk Franklin as I type this so forgive me if it sounds angelic. Marcus Carr and this Texas Men's Basketball team under Chris Beard have taken off like a rocket. Olujawon, Hakeem. You don't listen to Future? Okay. Well, for the second time this season a top ten team has come to the Moody Center and had a sad trip home. Two weeks ago, the Texas Longhorns defeated the Gonzaga Bulldogs and last night they defeated the #7 ranked Creighton Blue Jays in front of 10,000 people wearing burnt orange and white. Texas continues to get outstanding guard play led by Marcus Carr, Tyrese Hunter and Sir Jabari Rice, in addition to outstanding contributions from Dillon Mitchell and Timmy Allen in this game. All season, Texas has shown the ability to win high scoring blowouts, but this was the first time their resilience and grit was showcased in a close game. Creighton got it to within three points in the final minutes, but this 2022 Texas team has too many playmakers that can and ultimately did seal the game. Chris Beard said "We're going to defend our culture and we don't let anybody f**k with our culture". Heard You. Hook Em. Support Us By Supporting Our Sponsors! Locked On Longhorns - Daily Podcast On Texas Longhorns Football & Basketball
I had a feeling a top 5 team would fall to the Texas Longhorns in Austin, Texas this week. I was just wrong about the sport HAHA. After Quinn Ewers and the Longhorns failed to take care of business against Max Duggan and the TCU Horned Frogs, Chris Beard picked up a signature win five days later beating the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the Moody Center. Mark Few has turned Gonzaga into a juggernaut and a perennial national championship contender, led by their star player Drew Timme. Not many people expected Texas to not only knock off the #2 team in the country but also to beat them in such dominant fashion. This basketball team led by Tyrese Hunter and Dillon Mitchell has the potential to do something Texas has not done since 2003, make the final four. With key contributors such as Marcus Carr and Timmy Allen returning, and talented players like Arterrio Morris and Sir Jabari Rice coming off the bench, this texas team easily can go 9-10 deep. Basketball season is right around the corner and the Texas Longhorns are hoping to take a big step forward in Year 2 under Chris Beard. Some familiar names are no longer roaming the Forty Acres, with Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey moving on to their next destination, but that doesn't mean it's a total rebuild for Texas. The Longhorns bring back Marcus Carr, who will likely see his role change in the backcourt with the addition of Iowa State transfer Tyrese Hunter joining him at guard. The frontcourt will look familiar to Texas fans, with Timmy Allen, Dylan Disu, Christian Bishop, and Brock Cunningham returning, joined by highly-touted freshman Dillon Mitchell. So what are fair expectations for the Longhorns, once again playing in a Big 12 conference that seems to be head-and-shoulders above the rest of the conference? The Texas Longhorns men's basketball team may finally be on the right track, rattling off back-to-back statement wins in an effort to shake off a disappointing outing against Texas Tech. It started with a dominating performance against the Iowa State Cyclones, scoring 24 points off of 18 turnovers and holding the No. 20 school in the nation to just 28 percent shooting for the game. Texas also got big contributions from Marcus Carr and Andrew Jones, who both chipped in 14 points in the win. The momentum continued as Texas welcomed in the Kansas Jayhawks and pulled off their biggest win of the year, upsetting the No. 8 team in the country. The win, thanks to suffocating defense from Courtney Ramey and a career night from Timmy Allen, keeps Texas firmly in the Big 12 race with just three weeks left in the regular season. Texas Longhorns had an up-and-down week on the hardwood, both the men and the women - splitting the week 1-1. On the men's side, Texas started the week with a big win over the Kansas State Wildcats, but went to Stillwater and fell flat, falling 64-51 in an abysmal shooting performance. Just two players hit double-figures for the Longhorns, Timmy Allen and Andrew Jones, turning in an 8-27 performance from the floor. The ladies did not fare much better in their conference matchup, falling 74-61 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, thanks in large part to a 23-point performance from Vivian Gray. Tech went to the line early and often, capitalizing on nearly every opportunity from the charity stripe. Their early-season matchup with the Baylor Bears had to be rescheduled, so they took on UT-Rio Grande Valley and made the most of the matchup. Connect with the show on Twitter and Facebook.
