The 92 Report

Rana Dershowitz went straight to Harvard Law School after graduating in 1992, partly due to the economy and her love for learning. She describes her experience at Harvard Law School, including her role as a law school "old timer" in Cambridge. After law school, Rana moved back to New York and started working on Wall Street, initially hating the big law environment but appreciating the people she worked with. Entertainment Law at Madison Square Garden and onto Sports Law Rana discusses her career counselor's advice to explore sports law, which she had overlooked despite her involvement in sports and technical theater at Harvard. She took a six-month leave of absence and was offered a job in sports law the day she started her leave. Rana worked in entertainment law at Madison Square Garden (MSG) from 2001 to 2007, handling legal work for the Knicks, Rangers, and the WNBA's New York Liberty. She met her future husband during this time and moved to Colorado  in 2007, where she continued her legal career. Joining the US Olympic Committee and Life in Colorado  Rana joined the US Olympic Committee (USOC) as Deputy General Counsel in 2007, becoming interim General Counsel and then General Counsel and Head of Government Affairs. She describes the challenges of commuting between Colorado Springs and Denver, with her husband working in Bould, while managing her job and family life. Rana and her husband moved to Basalt, Colorado, in 2011, where she continued her legal work,  joined the Aspen skiing company, and became involved in the Aspen community. She transitioned to a part-time role at Aspen Skiing Company while working as Phil Weiser's policy director for his gubernatorial campaign. Challenges and Opportunities at the US Olympic Committee  Rana explains the unique structure of the USOC, which is federally chartered and subject to congressional oversight, unlike most Olympic committees. She discusses the complexities of funding and intellectual property rights, including the USOC's unique trademark rights. Rana highlights her work on safe sport initiatives and the challenges of managing independent national governing bodies for various sports. She reflects on the legal and operational complexities of hosting Olympic Games in the United States and the international dynamics involved. Working at Madison Square Garden and New York Liberty Rana shares a story that reflects her personal connection to Madison Square Garden. She describes the structure of MSG, which owns the building, the Knicks, the Rangers, and the Liberty, and her role in handling sponsorships and league rules. Rana recounts her involvement in the New York Liberty's WNBA finals run in 1999, feeling proud to be part of the team's success. She also discusses her role in managing entertainment acts during team sports events at MSG and shares a few of her proudest moments. Policy Work and Campaign for Phil Weiser  Rana explains her role as Phil Weiser's policy director, focusing on active listening and building a grassroots campaign across Colorado. She outlines key issues the campaign is addressing, including affordability, climate change, water resources, and public lands. Rana emphasizes the importance of bridging urban-rural divides and finding innovative solutions that benefit the entire state. She highlights the campaign's efforts to address youth mental health and promote outdoor activities for children. Rana's Broader Role at Aspen Skiing Company  Rana discusses her expanded role at Aspen Skiing Company, overseeing sustainability, community engagement, planning and development, and PR. She describes her transition to leading mountain operations and her current role that spans looking into employee housing and childcare. Rana reflects on the importance of understanding systems and structures beyond legal work, drawing on her experiences at Aspen.  Harvard Reflections Rana shares her initial reluctance to follow in her family's legal footsteps but eventually being drawn to law by her interest in the "Justice" class. She credits the course for shifting her perspective and leading her to law school. She also mentions auditing the "Thinking about Thinking" class taught by Stephen Jay Gould, Robert Nozick, and Alan Dershowitz, and reflects on the importance of considering different perspectives in policy work and legal decision-making. Before founding Randy Ojeda Law, PLLC, I built my career at the intersection of law, music, and business. My legal foundation comes from Loyola University Chicago School of Law, where I focused on Entertainment Law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. While pursuing my J.D., I gained invaluable experience working for firms like Neal & Leroy, LLC, and serving as a judicial intern at the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania under the Honorable Eduardo C. Robreno. But my path has never been confined to traditional legal roles. I spent years in the trenches of the music industry—signing and developing artists, negotiating distribution deals, and building careers from the ground up. At Symphonic Distribution, I helped artists and labels across the U.S. and Latin America navigate global distribution, monetization, and rights management. That hands-on industry experience continues to shape the way I approach my legal practice today. #brutallydelicious #metal #viralvideo #podcast #rockmusician #musiclaw #entertainmentlawyer #tampadeathmetal #deathmetal #morrissound #heavymetalmusic #musician #rockmusician #viralvideo Learn more about your ad choices. Sean Combs, also famously known as Puffy or P Diddy, remains at the center of widespread media coverage as his high-profile legal battles intensify this summer. This week, major outlets including Contactmusic and the Bangkok Post confirm that Combs has now been denied bail for the fifth time since his September 2024 arrest. The judge stated that Combs continues to pose a risk of flight and potential danger, reinforcing that even a $50 million bond and stringent conditions were not enough for his temporary release. Combs will remain in custody at the Brooklyn Metropolitan Detention Center in New York at least until his sentencing, which is scheduled for October 3, 2025.Last month, a New York jury found Combs guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, each carrying a maximum of 10 years in prison, according to multiple reports including the Times of India and Sky News. Although he was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering charges, the prosecution presented evidence of violence, coercion, and subjugation linked to his case, including video footage and multiple testimonies from former partners. His legal team has submitted a motion for acquittal or retrial on the prostitution charges. Meanwhile, Sean Combs' defense lawyer recently confirmed to CNN and as reported in the Hindustan Times that the team has reached out formally to President Donald Trump's administration to seek a possible presidential pardon. While Trump's public response has been lukewarm, noting past cordial relations but dismissing the likeliness of a pardon due to prior political hostility from Combs, the music mogul remains hopeful through his attorney, Nicole Westmoreland. They argue that pursuit of the case was itself improper, especially as Combs was cleared of the most severe accusations.Separate from his legal troubles, Combs' legacy as an entrepreneur and artist is also in the spotlight. AfroTech highlights Combs' complex history with the liquor industry and Diageo, recalling how his landmark branding work with Cîroc grew their business yet left him without equity. He later fulfilled his ambition of owning a tequila brand with DeLeón, of which he reportedly holds a fifty percent stake. Combs reflected that the obstacles he faced were typical of corporate America's approach to diversity and ownership, but emphasized that his hard-earned journey was worth it.Thanks for tuning in and make sure to come back next week for the latest updates. I mean, what's the point, then???

His arrest was based on what the courts called probable cause—but what Larry and many legal experts now see as a failure of justice. Alongside Larry is Attorney Pamela Rice-Campbell. Together, they unpack how vague police suspicions, flawed procedures, and systemic bias can turn "probable cause" into a life sentence for the innocent. From courtroom battles to emotional aftermath, this episode reveals the hidden dangers of a legal standard that too often escapes scrutiny. If you've ever wondered how easily justice can be derailed—this is the story you need to hear. ....and updates on Krystal ClarkLarry Smith (Exoneree)Justice Advocate, Sentence: Life without paroleConvicted: 1994 Exonerated: 2021Served 27 years for a crime he did not do.Attorney Pamela Rice-CampbellPamela Rice-Campbell is a dedicated attorney specializing in Civil, Criminal, and Entertainment Law. Courtroom battles are reshaping the film industry in ways that affect everyone from A-list stars to streaming subscribers. When Scarlett Johansson sued Disney over Black Widow's simultaneous streaming release, she wasn't just fighting for her paycheck—she was challenging how talent gets compensated in the digital age. The resulting alleged $40 million settlement forced studios everywhere to rewrite contracts with streaming contingencies.Meanwhile, across the globe, Nigerian filmmaker Femi Adebayo made history with a judgment against digital pirates who cleverly misused his film's promotional materials. His three-year legal fight established crucial precedent for Nollywood creators and signaled that copyright protection extends beyond Hollywood's borders.Technology continues to create fascinating legal disruptions. When Quentin Tarantino announced plans to auction Pulp Fiction NFTs, Miramax quickly filed suit, arguing his 1993 contract never contemplated blockchain tokens. Though they settled privately, the dispute highlighted how decades-old agreements struggle to address technologies that didn't exist when the ink dried. The most provocative developments involve artificial intelligence. Buenos Aires prosecutors are challenging their own government for failing to regulate AI systems that clone faces and voices without consent, framing digital identity as a constitutional right. Simultaneously, Chinese courts ruled that images created with AI tools can receive copyright protection—but only when significant human creativity guides the process. From Japanese courts imposing record penalties against "fast movie" channels that condense films into unauthorized summaries to European judges limiting what information YouTube must share about copyright infringers, these cases collectively demonstrate that intellectual property law isn't just legal background noise—it's the script determining who controls the stories we love.Whether you're creating content, distributing it, or simply enjoying it as a fan, understanding these shifting legal frameworks provides a fascinating new lens through which to view your favorite films.
