DAMTT: Pizza Toppings The bridal shower Stacy hosted provided lots of fodder for the show this week; she thought her advice for the bride and groom was inspired, but Eric saw her advice and raised her wiper fluid! While Stacy finished watching White Collar, Eric continued to enjoy OITNB with Tacoma native Vicci Martinez especially now that they've begun doing a radio show with advice segment (OMG same!). Being a Phantasm fan versus a Four Seasons fan probably won't cause as much heated debate as deep crusts and “supreme” pizzas. DAMTT is on Facebook and Instagram @dontaskmetotalk. On this week’s episode of SMI Radio, I catch up with Unsigned Only’s Ben Short to gain more insight to how UO works, how it got started, and the unique opportunity that it offers unsigned, emerging artists. You will also hear some tracks from past UO winners, Lara Johnston and Laura Steel. UO is still accepting song entries. Contestants interested in submitting songs for the competition can do so here. Specific days and runtimes of this week’s episode are available by scrolling down… In the second half of the show, Tacoma native Vicci Martinez is back on SMI Radio. Vicci dials in from the road, as she makes her way back to to the Northwest to play several dates, which include a show in Bellingham on Thursday, May 14 and a special St. Patty’s Day show on Sunday, March 17 at her old stomping grounds, Jazzbones in Tacoma. Tickets for that show are available here. Vicci is also in town to make her first video, which will include several friends and associates as extras. She’ll drop some hints on the concept of the video. Her single, Come Along, which she recorded with Cee Lo Green, has gotten a second life, thanks to her constant touring and radio airplay. You can get it on iTunes, Amazon.com and Bandcamp. Although Vicci has been spending the last couple years in LA, based on our conversation, her heart still remains in the Northwest.
On this week’s episode of SMI Radio you will hear my backstage conversation with Vicci that took place after her performance at Music Matters “Live.” We spoke about the evolution of her music following a very successful showing on NBC’s The Voice. Her strong performance in front of a national TV audience helped her gain a national fan base and land a deal on a major label. In addition to our conversation, you will hear some selected tracks off of her newest EP as well as some favorites from her Live at Jazzbones disc. In the second half of the show is a lost interview with Perry Acker’s Pete Johnson prior to their record release show this past fall. You will also hear selected cuts from their most recent effort, Path to Freedom.
This week’s episode of SMI Radio features conversations with Synergia Northwest Creative Director Michael McMorrow, Alan White and Johnathan Sindleman from the band White, and Jet City Stream air personality / Music Director / Synergia Northwest Talent Director, Shawn Stewart. You will also hear selected tracks from Synergia Northwest Present’s Music Matters “Live” artists, including Vicci Martinez.
On this episode of SMI Radio, Greg Roth speaks with Star Anna about her musical her sound, influences, inspirations and how Seattle music icon, Rachel Flotard (Visqueen) became her manager. We also talk a little about her participation in the Music Matters “Live” concert. In the second half of the show Roth replays a excerpt from his interview that he did with Vicci Martinez backstage at Jazz Bones a few days prior to her jumping on a plane to fly down to Los Angeles to compete in the finals of “The Voice,” in front of a national television audience. In addition, I feature selected tracks from Star Anna’s newest effort, “Alone In This Together” as well as the number,“Keep On” that she recorded with McCready.
One of TV’s hottest new shows, “The Voice” on NBC, is garnering national attention for northwest singer/ songwriter Vicci Martinez. You can watch her compete for the top spot live on Tuesday, June 7th. But before heading off to Los Angeles, Vicci performed a sold-out show at Jazz Bones in Tacoma, Washington. SMI Radio’s Greg Roth caught up with Vicci before she went on. In this week’s show, they talk about “The Voice,” her music, and her inspirations – and sample selected cuts from her “Live From Jazzbones” CD.
