If you're like a lot of people, you may never have completely gotten your head around crypto currency or believed that it is a viable and inevitable replacement for traditional bullion-based U.S. dollars. When the crypto market cratered in the summer of 2022, you might have felt a little bit vindicated and assumed that the whole thing was over. A flash in the pan, just like you've been saying all along. Right? Well, not so fast apparently. As crypto continues its fluctuations, here in Baton Rouge there are more than a few entrepreneurs betting on the continued adoption and growth of alternative currencies. Among them are Stephanie Riegel's guests on this edition of Out to Lunch Baton Rouge. Jared Loftus was the poster child for entrepreneurism in Baton Rouge a decade ago. He had owned a popular T-shirt company near the LSU campus, then brought the food truck revolution to the capital region with Taco de Paco. He also took on the beleaguered bus system, CATS, at a pivotal moment and got himself appointed to its board, and then walked away from the spotlight to help grow the very successful startup Mastery Prep, an online test prep firm which was acquired by a huge national company. Moving more into the tech world - as you may remember from our pandemic-era Out to Lunch shows - Jared helped build RASA.io, an AI powered email newsletter platform, and theses days he's all-in on crypto! Jared's latest company, founded in early 2022, is Max Boring, which is focused on building out the infrastructure that makes decentralized blockchains possible. What exactly - or even approximately - does that mean? If you're wondering, "What the heck is the blockchain?" and "Where does crypto currency come from anyway?" Jared explains it all in this conversation. Charlie Davis is an entrepreneur and CEO of Moxey, a network of small businesses who have banded together to improve their sales and cash flow through a unique community currency. You may remember we talked about the original version of Moxey back in 2016 when it was called The Trade Authority. In the years since, the community currency has grown to include 3,000 small business owners and has created a mobile app that makes using Moxey as easy as Venmo or a credit card. In a small-world - or perhaps small-town - coincidence, Charlie Davis is also a co-founder of Mastery Prep. Out to Lunch is recorded live over lunch at Mansurs on the Boulevard. "I've known Jonathan Moxey since long before I was on the beer writing beat. We were in a group of beer enthusiasts that met in and around new York city at least 15 years ago. Moxey was a homebrewer at the time. He was more than that, of course, but I first knew him as a homebrewer and a damn good one at that. There would be parties and gatherings and bombers would be passed around and all of us, young ‘uns would talk about how beer could save the world – or at least make our worlds better. Strangely enough a lot of folks in that group have gone on to work in and around beer, including opening their own breweries. Moxey and his wife left New York for Missouri where he got a job at Schlafly, and then Perennial and now he's at Rockwell Beer Co. as the head brewer. He's making tasty beer with soul, and it's always a pleasure when I get a can. He's also an insightful and thoughtful guy. I saw him in person at the great American beer festival and over liters at Bierstadt Lagerhaus he got me thinking about beer in ways I hadn't in a long time. So Moxey is here this week to share some of those thoughts and to keep the interest in beer flowing."-John Holl This Episode is Sponsored By:Pro BrewerWe bring original articles to ProBrewer.com twice a week covering issues important to the beer industry and aimed at helping breweries of all sizes understand different facets of the business. Fildeleren i Sveits fikk stå urørt. On this episode of the Music Business Worldwide Podcast (supported by Voly Music), we speak to a legendary entrepreneur in the world of dance and electronic music: Patrick Moxey.Moxey hit the headlines last week after Sony Music confirmed it had acquired 100% of the famed record label he founded, Ultra Records.According to Moxey, Sony acquired 50% of Ultra Records via a partnership deal in 2013, and has now acquired the remaining 50% stake – from Moxey himself – to take full control. As such, Moxey is walking away from Ultra Records, the label he founded way back in the mid-nineties, after more than 25 years. (Ultra's history really is a who's who of dance music: the label has released music by everyone from Steve Aoki to Roger Sanchez, Kygo, Deadmau5, Benny Benassi and many, many more.)There are, though, big plans afoot: Moxey says he's readying the launch of a new independent record label, for which he has already employed 38 staff worldwide. Moxey has additionally maintained ownership of Ultra's sister publishing company, which he says has a portfolio of 35,000 copyrights. If you're a fan of a good love story... you will love this chat! We chatted for 3 hours (don't worry the podcast is not that long) and just when you think we are wrapping up we got going again! It's a journey. Join me as I chat to this absolute legend, Brad Moxey, drummer extraordinare to several bands including JB Crockett and Evergreen Terrace. We muse about why some bands get massive, the juxtaposition he faces being in bands with differing genres (country/metal),line dancing, all things drumming and some fun music tales. There's a whole lot of love discussed on topics such as attraction, compassion, facilitating evolving growth in partnerships, maintaining hope, not settling and looking at what love is ...and more importantly, what it isn't. We change gears to look at being a parent and managing having a child with Autism, what that entails and the lessons they teach us. Brad is simply wonderful and I loved this chat sooooo much we hope you do too x photo @agahairesis https://www.jbcrockettlive.com @evergreenterraceofficial @moxeydrums
Welcome to Beyond the Easy, Dr. Fabia Moxey. Dr. Moxey didn't always want to be a doctor. Having majored in Pharmacology at FAMU, Florida A&M University, she continued her studies to become an Authorized User of radio-pharmaceuticals. This training requires a minimum of 500 practice hours under an approved preceptor in a nuclear pharmacy and 250 classroom based hours. Nuclear pharmacy is also the first approved Board Specialty by APhA. Fabia also received 200 of hours of didactic training at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana There are not that many women or men of color in her field. It's very rare. In fact, she doesn't know any in her area at all. When not out saving lives as an essential worker in a field with very few minorities, Dr. Moxey serves alongside her husband as they help their daughter run the Taylor Moxey Foundation. Aside from that, Fabia is a published author and a musical lyricist. She authored a very unique book: “Pick up the Paper, Pick up the Pencil and Write” with an accompanying song which you can find in our podcast description. She is also the family travel agent, coordinator of scheduling, family chef, and DIY home interior decorator, and lover of global travel and nature. But the backstory to her journey is nothing any listener would expect. She offers a candid look into the life of a pharmacist, as well as offers tips to everyone on how to treat those who care for others. Have a notebook? Great, take copious notes. Insightful and Informative, with a touch of humor to help you heal along the way! To learn more about her book, and hear the song, visit her website: https://www.pickupandwrite.com/new-album
