Carnifex vocalist Scott Lewis is the guest on our 300th episode. We discuss the band's new album World War X, the concept behind the record, the importance of the atmospherics and layers to the album's sound, the importance of the visual aesthetic in this album's videos, and how this year's Summer Slaughter tour has been going and why it's working so well. We also discuss Scott's passion for action films, the importance of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, why Tim Burton's vision is not on that same level, modern day feature film directors choosing to go to television instead of doing more features, and the most important contribution to society we have power over as individuals. Petar, Brandon and Jozalyn tackle the Tool cycle of news that came out last week including their music's debut on streaming platforms, Jamey Jasta's comments about Chvrches, argue about the value of legacy bands versus those that draw more on festival slots. Songs: Carnifex - “World War X" and “No Light Shall Save Us” (Featuring Alissa White- Gluz)

Welcome to part 3 of "Carnifex Week" on the Heavy Metal History Podcast. As most of the listeners may know, I spent 5 years touring with Carnifex during their career and now in 2019 the band is about to release their 7th studio album "World War X" I wanted to be able to capture as much of the information from as many perspectives of the band members about how this album was recorded, so over the course of this week you will hear from multiple members of their direct input of how the record was made. In this episode I welcomed back vocalist of Carnifex, Scott Lewis about his role in the writing and recording process of the new album. We discussed how he recorded his vocals over time at a studio closer to him. His writing process for the lyrics this time around and how the album has an under current of a more positive and optimistic theme to the the complete desolate and brutal nature of how the album sounds. Scott also goes more in depth about bringing on Alissa for their guest spot in “No Light Shall Save Us” as well as how Angel Vivaldi got involved in the midst of recording while at Jason Suecof's. "World War X" comes out on Nuclear Blast on August 2nd.
Welcome to part 2 of "Carnifex Week" on the Heavy Metal History Podcast. In this episode I talked to the drummer of Carnifex, Shawn Cameron about his role in the writing and recording process of the new album. We also talked about his early influences and all the insane logistics of getting Alissa from Arch Enemy to be on their track and shoot the music video for "No Light Shall Save Us". "World War X" comes out on Nuclear Blast on August 2nd.

"For us it's really our most ambitious album", enthused Scott Lewis, vocalist for Carniflex, talking about their new album World War X which will be released on August 2. "We pushed ourselves further musically than we ever have. We wanted to add more layers, more atmosphere and songs with more peaks and balance in them and I think we really accomplished that".While World War X has a common thread permeating through the lyrics, Lewis stops short of declaring it a concept record."Thing thing for me really was going into the writing I had to match the scale and scope of the lyrics to the music", he measured. "The songs were big. They were epic songs, so I had to try to find a way to take my lyrics that were normal and very intimate and personal and reframe them with scale. Using the battle lines and the battlefields as a theme really gave me the chance to reframe everything into something more exciting and fresh for a Carniflex record and it matched what we were trying to do".In the full interview Scott talks more about World War X, the importance of the lead song on each record, the released videos from the album and how they reflect the lyrical content, writing longer songs than they ever have before, having Alissa White-Gluz from Arch Enemy guest on one of the tracks, the bands hiatus in 2012 and how important it was to the bands future longevity, what they did differently the second time around and more.
Scott Lewis (Carnifex). Ahead of the August 2nd, 2019 release from Carnifex, World War X, vocalist Scott Lewis joins Andrew to discuss career and the new album.
