It's important for you to know that this episode will change the way you get dressed. Like forever.    This week, Holly Katz dives into the art of closet organization to revolutionize your daily dressing routine and elevate your overall style once and for all! #hallelujurrrrrr   If you are in closet chaos, Holly's here to turn you around so you get organized, purge, donate, and eliminate stress when getting dressed.    KEY TOPICS     1. Understanding the Closet Chaos Epidemic Holly kicks off the episode by identifying common wardrobe woes, from overflowing drawers to the emotional clutter that is blocking your style; whether consciously or unconsciously.    It's not just about having too much or too little; it's about reconnecting with your clothes in a way that sparks joy and creativity. #YAASSSSSSSS   HOT TIP: Organizing your stuff is the first step in training your brain that you don't need more!     2. The First Steps to Freedom Sorting through your items, (ALL OF THEM), will start you on your purging journey. Holly outlines how to start small, avoid the overwhelm, and focus on keeping what you love and makes you feel good. More doesn't always necessarily mean better. It means closet clutter.   She shares her favorite tip: swapping out mismatched hangers for velvet slimline ones to maximize space and add an instant luxe feel to your closet setup.   3. Laundry and Shopping Habits Consistent laundry practices are key to maintaining that new closet feel.   Holly discusses the pitfalls of erratic laundry habits and over-shopping, providing practical advice on how to create a sustainable wardrobe without succumbing to shopping temptations aka: panic shopping.    4. Donations and Sustainable Choices Once you've sorted through your wardrobe, it's time to give back.   Holly emphasizes the importance of donating to charities that can truly benefit from your gently used items and advises on how to choose the right places to make an impact. Places like Dress for Success in your town is a great place to start bringing your gently used items in great condition.    5. Drawer and Shoe Organization The final touch involves decluttering your drawers and displaying your shoes out of the boxes and off the floor.    Holly gives actionable tips on how to keep everything accessible and orderly, turning your closet into a showcase you're proud to open every day. Once you complete the clean out, you will never want to go back to your old closet chaos. Make your closet a place where you are proud to get dressed each day.    Show Us Your Closet for the Win! As you transform your wardrobe space, we'd love to see your progress!   1. Can you keep it that way? Send Holly some before-and-after photos of your closet, and she'll give you a shout-out on the next episode.   2. Whoever has the most garbage bags full of stuff to give away, send Holly a picture and a description of what you're giving away and the number of bags you're donating - and the name of the charity you're donating to- and you can win an exclusive interview live on the show to tell everyone about your closet clean out experience.   Just send your stories and pictures to Holly@fashioncrimespodcast.com.     Fashion Crimes: Closet Edition So, what did we learn today? Holly tackled the ultimate fashion crimes committed within the confines of our closets:   • Over-shopping and under-shopping both create chaos, making it hard to enjoy and utilize what we have. • Neglecting to organize or frequently clean out your closet also contributes to these crimes, leaving us with a wardrobe full of items we neither use nor need.   Let's pledge to maintain orderly spaces, make thoughtful purchases, and cherish the clothes that serve us and donate what doesn't.    This. Is. Life. Changing. It's a fool-proof plant to reclaim not only our closets but also our style confidence!     That's it for now! Don't forget to subscribe FOR FREE wherever you get your podcasts for your weekly dose of style and shopping inspiration, follow us on social media, and keep sharing your fashion triumphs and challenges. Hebrews 12:4-13 Part 1 God is Treating You As Sons

Sermon Audio

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 5, 2024

Hebrews 12:4-13 is one of those passages we must read over and over. The more we do so, the more profound and life-altering it becomes. Initially, I intended to preach through the entire section in one sermon, but I just can't. There is so much here that we must allow to saturate our souls. This Sunday, we will read the whole text but only examine v. 4-8 in depth. Technically, the whole text will be a single sermon, but we will look at two points this Sunday and two next Sunday. Having just exhorted us to run the race set before us with endurance, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author shows us that our perspective about trials and suffering in this life needs to change. The author tells his readers they have forgotten what God said about those whom He calls His children. Quoting Proverbs 3:11-12, he shows that all the believer's sufferings in this life are the discipline of God. Even the persecutions the Hebrew Christians were enduring are to be seen as God's discipline. When we think of discipline, our minds often jump to "punishment" or "justice." But discipline in this context is not punitive. God's discipline of His children is redemptive and corrective for our good, to conform us to the image of Jesus and grow us into maturity. Discipline (which is used repeatedly in this section) is what we would call training. It includes instruction and correction as God forces His children to use the muscles of faith in order to grow them. His discipline of His children is never done in wrath, but a loving care for His children's growth in holiness and faith. Of course, discipline is often painful and difficult, but this kind of discipline doesn't show God's abandonment, but rather His love for us. Although every phrase in this text is earth-shakingly profound, verse 7 is the thematic point being driven home. "It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline?" The NIV actually captures the first sentence more accurately. It is a command. The NIV says, "Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as his children." Last week (as we examined v. 1-3), we talked about "training, not trying." But I purposefully didn't go into any depth about what this training entails, because the author highlights this training in v. 4-13 and it isn't the training that we do (there is a place for that), but here, it is how God trains (disciplines) us through the trials of this life. The overall exhortation in this section is not for us to do better or train harder - it is for us to change our perspective about the hardships and sufferings of this life. For the Christian, all of them - ALL OF THEM - should be seen as God growing us, conforming us to the image of His Son. "For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." Hebrews 12:11. I. Remember God's Promise of Discipline (v. 4-6) II. Recognize The Necessity of God's Discipline (v. 7-8) (Points 3 & 4 - will be Sunday Aug. 11) III. Respond Rightly To God's Discipline (v. 9-10) IV. Remember The Benefit of God's Discipline (v. 11-13)

Rachele Wright is a jack of all trades, and a master at ALL OF THEM. She is a pianist, a musician, an educator, a business operations specialist, a marketing strategist, and the list goes on and on. Given all of the tools and skills we possess, it's only natural to start building strong identities with these different disciplines. We seek the validation based on our performance within set goals and plans, and we put much value in how productive these different parts of ourselves are. What happens when these different ideas of ourselves are no longer as active as they once were? What if music or teaching is not playing a primary role in our current day to day work? Does it feel like failure? Can we still identify ourselves with those titles? How does it feel when those identities that we held on to for a majority of our lives start to crumble. These are the questions that we discuss on this episode. I had a great time working through this with Rachele and I'm looking forward to more conversations like this. Enjoy! About this Podcast : Craft Talk is a collection of interviews with people of different disciplines ranging from creativity, business, and lifestyle. By diving into my guest's story and learning about how they approach their craft, I hope that these conversations help you find different ways to improve your own! Then Lauren asks WHERE IN THE WORLD(Is Keep It Weird Going?) as we astral travel to DOOR COUNTY Wisconsin which is apparently chock full of haunted lighthouses.     Ashley grabs the binoculars for a MONSTER WATCH where the MOTHBOYS PODCAST leads us to a very strange cryptid from West Virginia (where else, amirite?) called THE VEGGIE MAN   And Lauren finishes off strong with another CURSED CROONERS (& Spooky Songs) as we discuss the curse of the 9th symphony!  Which 9th symphony you ask?  ALL OF THEM.   Check out the links below if you want to do some further reading on today's topics. People have asked for thousands of years this question: "What sins, what bad behaviors lead to DEATH?" The very sobering answer is, ALL OF THEM. At least, without the intervention and grace of God, 100% of sins result in the consequence of separation from God. So, don't purposefully, willfully, and habitually put yourself into the category of being responsible for the consequences of your shortcomings. First, don't sin. Second, don't make a habit of it. Third, repent quickly. Fourth, get a bunch of people to help you with this. Fifth, let Jesus, with His big weapons, help with the forgiveness process.Do NOT put yourself OUTSIDE of this process. Otherwise, ALL sins lead to death. Listen 7 minutes. bewithme.us share this on your FB feed.  Like and subscribe at any podcast provider. Spotify, Google &  Apple Podcasts.

RUN This week, we highlight the start of the 2023 Destination DONNA Marathon Weekend.  Dana flew solo in Jacksonville, so he discusses the experience of the 5K because it had a completely different venue and feel this year.  Did he love it?  Would he want the course to be the same in 2024?  Find out. EAT We featured Wicked Barley back on Episode 51 for food and beverage.  Dana wanted to kick off the weekend right, and since he was staying mere moments away from this favorite of ours, he returned to have some tasty food at Wicked Barley Brewing in Jacksonville.  Is it still the same menu?  Is the quality still next-level?  He gives his honest review here on the show. DRINK Dana was also right around the corner from Veterans United Craft Brewery and took the opportunity to revisit various favorite styles from the menu.  He also checked out the space and some live music there, too.   Has it changed?  Is it still a favorite?  These are questions he answered this week.  THAT'S A WRAP! Of course, there is more to explore, and we can't wait to bring you this year's finds from the weekend!  Stay tuned for a recap after this emotional and incredible race weekend.   Before we go…. This week's episode answers an essential question: what's the best pizza? You may be relieved to hear that the answer is a very loud “ALL OF THEM!” We reminisce about the pizzas of our childhood, the slices that we've enjoyed together, and the pizza memories that we hold in our hearts, plus a few of the ways we love to make pizza at home. Our conversation explores pizza in its many forms: from cracker-y thin crusts and chewy sourdough slices to Sicilian + Chicago deep dish, from a classic cheese to a pie piled high with toppings. We embrace the notion that almost anything can serve as a pizza canvas: a bagel, an English muffin - even matzo! And we'll share some of our favorite pairings for pizza dinners. We invite you to share your favorite pie and what you like about it, or maybe tell us about your favorite FOOD FRIEND that you wish you could have a slice with right NOW!***Links to recipes from this week's show:Pizzeria Mozza, Los Angeles, CA Gjelina Takeaway, Venice CA Kari's Midwest favorites: Gumby's in Champagne-Urbana, IL, Mario's Pizza in Pontiac, IL, and Monical's Pizza, Fairbury, IL Sonya's Northwest favorites: Scottie's Pizza Parlor, Portland OR, Ken's Artisan Pizza, Portland, OR, and from back in the day, Pagliacci Pizza in SeattleWe love hearing from you — follow us on Instagram @foodfriendspod, or drop us a line at foodfriendspod@gmail.com!
