One-Act Play Collections - Book 10, Part 1 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 10 Overview: The tenth volume of one-act plays in the public domain is read by a variety of LibriVox members. A one-act play is a play that has only one act and is distinct from plays that occur over several acts. One-act plays may consist of one or more scenes. The 20-40 minute play has emerged as a popular subgenre of the one-act play, especially in writing competitions. One-act plays make up the overwhelming majority of Fringe Festival shows including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The origin of the one-act play may be traced to the very beginning of recorded Western drama: in ancient Greece, Cyclops, a satyr play by Euripides, is an early example. The satyr play was a farcical short work that came after a trilogy of multi-act serious drama plays. A few notable examples of one-act plays emerged before the 19th century including various versions of the Everyman play and works by Moliere and Calderon. One act plays became more common in the 19th century and is now a standard part of repertory theatre and fringe festivals. One-Act Play Collections - Book 6, Part 2 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 6 Overview: This collection includes ten one-act plays by David Belasco, Arnold Bennett, Hereward Carrington, Lewis Carroll, Lord Dunsany, John Galsworthy, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, Maurice Maeterlinck, Anna Bird Stewart, and Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The Book Coordinators for this collection were Charlotte Duckett, Michele Eaton, Elizabeth Klett, Loveday, Piotr Nater, Algy Pug, Eden Rea-Hedrick, Todd, and Chuck Williamson. Lissette Calderon showed up to the studio with a bottle of Casa Dragones tequila and got right to business—just like she has her entire career. From her childhood growing up near the Miami River to becoming one of the most visionary developers in South Florida, Lissette's story is nothing short of inspiring. In an industry historically dominated by men, this proud Cuban-American carved her own path. After attending Coral Gables High, she headed to The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and eventually returned to Miami to work at the Related Group. But it didn't take long for her entrepreneurial drive to kick in.Motivated by the lack of affordable housing and inspired by the city she calls home, Lissette took a bold leap. She put a development site under contract near the Miami River and launched Neo Lofts—her first project and a spark that would ignite a full-blown transformation of the area. With the success of Neo Lofts, Lissette followed up with Neo Vertika, Wind by Neo, and Pier 19 Residences & Marina, earning her the nickname “Queen of the Miami River.”But her impact didn't stop there. Lissette turned her sights on Allapattah, completing No. 17 Residences in 2021, and is now delivering two more communities—The Julia and Fourteen Allapattah Residences—in 2024. Her latest project, a massive 1,350-unit mixed-use community in the Palmer Lake District, sits across from the future site of Miami Freedom Park and is set to break ground later this year. From Penn to pioneering Miami's most overlooked neighborhoods, Lissette Calderon is proof of what vision, grit, and relentless determination can build—especially when the odds are stacked against you.Connect with usWant to dive deeper into Miami's commercial real estate scene? Mitrice Richardson, a 24-year-old psychology graduate, disappeared on September 17, 2009, after being released from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Los Angeles, following her arrest for failing to pay an $89 restaurant bill and possessing a small amount of marijuana. Exhibiting erratic behavior suggestive of a mental health crisis, possibly undiagnosed bipolar disorder, Mitrice was released at 12:28 a.m. without her phone, wallet, or car, despite her mother's plea to hold her until morning. Last seen alive resting in a resident's backyard six hours later, her skeletal remains were found 11 months later in a remote canyon, with her clothing 700 feet away and no clear cause of death determined. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department faced criticism for releasing her, mishandling her remains, and obstructing the coroner's investigation, prompting lawsuits and allegations of foul play, though her death was ruled undetermined, not a homicide. Her case led to policy changes for missing persons and mental health evaluations, but her family continues to seek justice, believing she was murdered. One-Act Play Collections - Book 4, Part 1 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 4 Overview: This collection of twelve one-act dramas features plays by James Allen, John Kendrick Bangs, Gordon Bottomley, Charles Dickens, Lord Dunsany, Susan Glaspell, George Bernard Shaw, August Strindberg, Marion Craig Wentworth, and William Butler Yeats.
