One-Act Play Collections - Book 13, Part 1 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 13 Overview: Here, in our 13th collection, are 10 One-Act Plays for your enjoyment. They range from tales of ancient Greek sailors to a story about early 1900 moonshiners; many short gems to make you laugh, cry, think, or all three. A one-act play is a play that has only one act and is distinct from plays that occur over several acts. One-act plays may consist of one or more scenes. The 20-40 minute play has emerged as a popular subgenre of the one-act play, especially in writing competitions. One-act plays make up the overwhelming majority of Fringe Festival shows including at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The origin of the one-act play may be traced to the very beginning of recorded Western drama: in ancient Greece, Cyclops, a satyr play by Euripides, is an early example. The satyr play was a farcical short work that came after a trilogy of multi-act serious drama plays. A few notable examples of one-act plays emerged before the 19th century including various versions of the Everyman play and works by Moliere and Calderon. One act plays became more common in the 19th century and is now a standard part of repertory theatre and fringe festivals. In this episode of 'Need Some Introduction,' host Victor, along with co-host Darren, delve into episode 4, titled 'Strawberry,' of the Apple TV series 'Smoke.' They analyze the episode's complex narrative, exploring the blurred lines between reality and fiction. Victor emphasizes his theory that much of what we see may be fabricated from the protagonist Dave's book. Key moments discussed include Dave's inappropriate behavior during a lecture, Calderon's ongoing investigation, and the absurd and surreal final scenes, which suggest a fantasy element. The episode also covers how audiences might react to these developments, the upcoming introduction of John Leguizamo's character, and ends with a brief detour into the new season of 'Dexter Resurrection' and anticipation for upcoming films such as Ari Aster's 'Edington' and David Cronenberg's 'The Shrouds.' mailto:needssomeintroduction@gmail.com 00:00 Introduction and Current Shows 00:43 Murderbot Finale Discussion 02:52 Superman Movie Review 06:51 Superman Movie Critique 13:01 Superman Movie Comparisons 30:57 Smoke Episode 4: Strawberry 34:11 Dramatic Scene Analysis 34:25 Dave's Insane Lecture 35:11 Freddy's Disastrous Reaction 36:24 Calderon's Strategy and Freddy's Stockpile 38:22 Dave's Suspicious Behavior 42:26 Convenience Store Encounter 47:00 Calderone's Investigation 59:28 Dexter Resurrection Discussion 01:03:55 Upcoming Movies and Final Thoughts

In a world where 17% of all electricity is generated from wind and solar and where 93% of all new capacity added to the grid is from renewables, it can be easy to forget that countries got their first wind and solar resources within just the last few years. And in fact, some countries are still waiting for their first. Today on Cleaning Up, we're joined by Daniel Calderon, Founder and Managing Partner of Alcazar Energy Partners. Daniel has made it a specialty of going into countries overlooked by others, building their first wind and solar farms, and as he explains, doing it profitably. Leadership Circle: Cleaning Up is supported by the Leadership Circle, and its founding members: Actis, Alcazar Energy, Davidson Kempner, EcoPragma Capital, EDP of Portugal, Eurelectric, the Gilardini Foundation, KKR, National Grid, Octopus Energy, Quadrature Climate Foundation, SDCL and Wärtsilä. In this episode of 'Need Some Introduction,' hosts explore the new Dennis Lehane TV series 'Smoke' on Apple TV+. They discuss the show's mixed critical reception and delve into episodes one through three, comparing 'Smoke' to Lehane's previous series 'Blackbird.' Darren and Victor provide detailed analyses of the characters, plot developments, and their own theories regarding potential twists and constructs within the story, such as the possibility that what the audience sees might be the fictional narrative of a book written by the protagonist. Additional discussions include recent films like the F1 movie, '28 Years Later,' and upcoming blockbusters 'Superman' and 'Fantastic Four.' The conversation also touches on Brad Pitt's performance in the F1 movie, the polarized opinions on its execution, and potential crossovers between directors like Quentin Tarantino and David Fincher. The hosts round off the episode with anticipation for future reviews and analyses of ongoing series such as 'Dexter: Resurrection' and 'MurderBot.' mailto:needssomeintroduction@gmail.com 00:00 Introduction and Episode Overview 01:05 F1 Movie Review and Brad Pitt's Performance 08:25 Tarantino and Fincher: Upcoming Projects 17:23 Jurassic World and Summer Blockbusters 21:12 Dexter Resurrection and TV Reboots 25:10 Introduction to 'Smoke' TV Series 33:23 Analyzing the Lead Actor's Performance 33:57 Critiques and Character Dynamics 35:37 Exploring the Psychology of Arsonists 37:54 The Big Reveal and Its Implications 40:40 Character Relationships and Development 45:04 Theories and Speculations 01:01:50 Episode Three Reactions and Reviews 01:08:39 Analyzing the Music and Tone 01:09:08 Character Analysis: The Silly Pyro 01:10:55 Speculations and Theories 01:11:41 Episode Length and Structure 01:12:25 Character Performances and Dynamics 01:14:19 Calderon's Backstory and Themes of Denial 01:16:50 Constructs and Writing Techniques 01:28:44 Family Dynamics and Flashbacks 01:34:42 The Cat and Mouse Game 01:38:39 Upcoming Discussions and Final Thoughts

Dr. Ruth Calderon joins the podcast to reflect on the personal and intellectual journey behind her book, A Bride for One Night. She begins by discussing her background and the role her parents played in nurturing her love of Torah, as mentioned in the book's dedication. She then unpacks her approach to the Talmud, describing how she reads aggadic texts not through a religious, academic, or educational lens, but as stories that have the power to move us. This perspective shaped her call for integrating the Talmud into Israeli culture and education, regardless of religious ideology, because these texts continue to speak to the modern Israeli experience. She also shares the thinkers who helped shape her methodology. The conversation concludes with a look back at her iconic Knesset speech—what led to it, the core message she hoped to convey, and its ongoing impact.---*This episode is dedicated to the refua shelema of Sarah Miriam bat Tamar, Binyamin ben Zilpa, and our dear friend Yaakov ben Haya Sarah Malakh---• Bio: Dr. Ruth Calderon is an Israeli Talmud scholar, educator, and former member of Knesset. Born in Tel Aviv to a Sephardic father from Bulgaria and an Ashkenazi mother from Germany, she was raised in a home that bridged religious traditions and cultures. She earned her BA at Oranim Academic College and the University of Haifa, and completed her MA and PhD in Talmud at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. In 1989, she established Israel's first secular, pluralistic, and egalitarian beit midrash, and in 1996 she founded ALMA: Home for Hebrew Culture in Tel Aviv, to bring secular Israelis closer to their textual heritage. In 2013, she was elected to the Knesset on the Yesh Atid list, where her opening speech—teaching Talmud from the Knesset floor—became a national sensation. Calderon has held fellowships at the Shalom Hartman Institute and served as a visiting professor at Harvard Law School. She has received numerous honors, including the Avi Chai Prize, the Samuel Rothberg Prize for Jewish Education, and honorary doctorates from Brandeis University, the Jewish Theological Seminary, and Hebrew College. She is the author of A Bride for One Night, a collection of Talmudic tales interwoven with creative retellings, and continues to be a leading voice in the renewal of pluralistic Hebrew culture in Israel.---• Watch her infamous Knesset speech here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S8nNpTf7tNo---• Welcome to JUDAISM DEMYSTIFIED: A PODCAST FOR THE PERPLEXED | Co-hosted by Benjy & Benzi | Thank you to...Super Patron: Jordan Karmily, Platinum Patron: Craig Gordon, Rod Ilian, Gold Patrons: Dovidchai Abramchayev, Lazer Cohen, Travis Krueger, Vasili Volkoff, Vasya, Silver Patrons: Ellen Fleischer, Daniel M., Rabbi Pinny Rosenthal, Fred & Antonio, Jeffrey Wasserman, and Jacob Winston! One-Act Play Collections - Book 10, Part 2 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 10 Overview: The tenth volume of one-act plays in the public domain is read by a variety of LibriVox members. One-Act Play Collections - Book 7, Part 2 Title: One-Act Play Collections - Volume 7 Overview: LibriVox's One-Act Play Collection 7 includes one-act plays in the public domain read by a variety of LibriVox members. Mitrice Richardson, a 24-year-old psychology graduate, disappeared on September 17, 2009, after being released from the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station in Los Angeles, following her arrest for failing to pay an $89 restaurant bill and possessing a small amount of marijuana. Exhibiting erratic behavior suggestive of a mental health crisis, possibly undiagnosed bipolar disorder, Mitrice was released at 12:28 a.m. without her phone, wallet, or car, despite her mother's plea to hold her until morning. Last seen alive resting in a resident's backyard six hours later, her skeletal remains were found 11 months later in a remote canyon, with her clothing 700 feet away and no clear cause of death determined. The Los Angeles Sheriff's Department faced criticism for releasing her, mishandling her remains, and obstructing the coroner's investigation, prompting lawsuits and allegations of foul play, though her death was ruled undetermined, not a homicide. Her case led to policy changes for missing persons and mental health evaluations, but her family continues to seek justice, believing she was murdered.
