Why do some autographs turn out bold and beautiful while others look rushed, streaky, or barely readable? In this episode of The Powers Sports Memorabilia Show, Matt breaks down the four core factors that determine autograph quality—essential knowledge for any collector or anyone sending items into private signings. You'll learn how the item itself impacts ink absorption, why certain materials like glossy photos, baseball leather, and stitched jersey numbers consistently deliver better results, and why mesh jerseys or dark basketballs can be a challenge even for experienced signers.Matt also dives into pen choice, from paint pens and Sharpies to Staedtlers, explaining how ink type, freshness, and tip size can make or break the signature. Next, you'll hear how signing speed affects legibility and why autographs from game-day or walk-by moments often look totally different from clean, controlled private signing signatures. Finally, we break down the often-overlooked issue of pressure—how too much or too little can cause flooding, streaking, or light, patchy lines depending on the surface.By the end of this episode, you'll know exactly how to choose the best item and the best pen to maximize your autograph quality—and avoid the common mistakes that lead to disappointing signatures.Perfect for collectors, fans, and anyone who wants to get the best possible results from their next signing. https://powerssportsmemorabilia.com/
Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced a $750,000 settlement with American Mint LLC over its negative option subscription practices — marking the company's second major enforcement action following a 2005 Assurance of Voluntary Compliance. The case underscores how state AGs continue to use UDAP authority to address deceptive subscription practices, even without specific auto-renewal laws on the books. For legal, compliance, and marketing teams, this settlement highlights the importance of clear, conspicuous disclosures, express consent, and accessible cancellation methods — and serves as a reminder that legacy agreements and practices remain enforceable decades later. In this episode Pauline and Peter talk about Hedging. Our Hedging business, was started by John Brown on a small plot of Land in Harrow on the Hill, but due to a lack of space the business was moved to our present location by his son Richard back in 1970. With a vast range of Hedging, Fruit and Ornamental trees on offer and being one of the oldest Mail Order specialists in the country in this episode we learn a little more about the changes that have happened over the last 75 years and reasons why Buckingham Nurseries and Garden Centre is one of the best places to get your new hedge from. We sell most of our hedging plants in the winter when the plants are dormant. We also sell pot grown hedging which is available all year round. Before getting your hedge, it is best to prepare the soil in advance. Dig the area your hedge is going to go in before your new plants arrive, incorporate some well rotted manure or slow release fertilizer like Bonemeal, or Vitax. If drainage is an issue incorporate some grit. Once the plants arrive, plant them with Mycorrhizal fungi like Rootgrow, keep watered if needed for the first year or two to help them establish. Keep the weeds down with Landscape fabric. If you are wondering what hedges will do best for you, have a walk around your neighbourhood and see what hedges are doing well in your local area as the likelihood is you will have a similar soil type to your neighbours, so what they can grow well hopefully you will be able to do to.We also discuss some of the different types of hedges we sell from Native hedging to Peter's pet hates Rosa rugosa, and Berberis as they are painful to pack but great for creating a very secure, impenetrable hedge great for deterring burglars and trespassers who you don't want on your land.Pauline gives us some help and guidance on how to plant a hedge, care for it, from the moment it arrives to getting it established over the first couple of years, growth rates and how often you might need to cut it. Pauline also explains how the business has evolved from simple lists of plants being advertised in National Papers to more modern methods like our website and more recent advertising campaigns through the likes of YouTube and social media. Over the years our shop has gone from a simple shed with tools, fertilizers and a small range of sundries through to today's large modern shop, including our very popular Restaurant, with all the different departments from Houseplants, Cookshop and Foodhall, Giftware, Christmas and all the other departments that make up a modern destination Garden Centre worth a visit. It's Thursday, October 9th, A.D. 2025. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Pakistani pastor dies after 13-year jail sentence A pastor in Pakistan died on Sunday after languishing in prison for 13 years. Pastor Zafar Bhatti founded Jesus World Mission Church ministry. Back in 2012, he was falsely accused of insulting Islam. Authorities finally overturned his conviction this month, releasing him last Wednesday. The 62-year-old pastor died days after from cardiac arrest at his home. The British Asian Christian Association helped defend the pastor in court. The organization stated, “Though his earthly journey has ended, Zafar's faith, endurance, and ultimate vindication remain a powerful testament to hope in Christ amidst persecution.” Nigerian Anglican Church appalled that woman chosen to be new church head The Anglican Church of Nigeria declared spiritual independence from the Church of England on Tuesday. The announcement came in response to the Church of England's appointment of Sarah Mullally as the Archbishop of Canterbury. She is the first woman to hold the position. She also supports abortion and faux homosexual marriage. Archbishop Henry Ndukuba is the Primate of the Church of Nigeria. He stated, “[Mullally's] appointment marks a tragic departure from biblical orthodoxy. . . . We remain Anglicans — but not under Canterbury. Our loyalty is to Christ and the truth of His Word, not to institutions that have abandoned it.” Police arrest man intent on blowing up church with Supreme Court Justices In the United States, police arrested a man on Sunday who had hundreds of explosive devises outside of St. Matthews Cathedral in Washington, D.C. Police made the arrest before an annual service traditionally attended by U.S. Supreme Court justices. According to court records, the man's notebook expressed animosity toward Supreme Court justices, the Catholic Church, Jews, and immigration enforcement officials. FBI cuts ties with God-hating Southern Poverty Law Center The Federal Bureau of Investigation announced last week it has cut ties with the Southern Poverty Law Center. The far-left nonprofit is known for listing conservative and Christian organizations as “hate groups,” primarily because they affirm God's design for sexuality and marriage. FBI Director Kash Patel posted on X, “The Southern Poverty Law Center long ago abandoned civil rights work and turned into a partisan smear machine. Their so-called ‘hate map' has been used to defame mainstream Americans and even inspired violence. That disgraceful record makes them unfit for any FBI partnership.” Florida, Louisiana, Missouri & Texas sue FDA over mail-order Abortion Kill Pill The state of Louisiana joined a lawsuit against the Food and Drug Administration on Monday. Florida, Missouri, and Texas are also on the case. They are challenging the FDA's 2023 policy that allows mail-order abortion drugs. Louisiana's filing states, “Every year, doctors and activists in states like California and New York mail a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)-approved abortion drug called mifepristone to thousands of Louisiana residents for the express purpose of causing abortions in Louisiana that are blatantly unlawful.” Gold hit $4,000 per ounce first time ever On Tuesday, spot gold prices hit $4,000 per ounce for the first time in history. That's up 50% from January. Silver is up 60% this year. The demand for gold is up as investors hedge against economic uncertainty. Financial analyst Rhona O'Connell told Reuters, “Background factors are much the same as before, in terms of geopolitical uncertainty, with the added spice of the (U.S.) government shutdown.” Prison Fellowship and Bible League to send 620,000 Bibles to prisoners And finally, Prison Fellowship International and Bible League International are partnering to distribute over half a million Bibles. The 620,000 Bibles will go to prisoners in 20 countries over the next five years. Frank Lofaro with Prison Fellowship International said, “God's Word has the power to reach prisoners in their darkest moments with the light of Jesus Christ. Through this partnership, prisoners who come to know Jesus through our evidence-based, in-prison programs are equipped to grow in their faith through a Bible that they can understand and that speaks to their circumstances.” Luke 4:18 says, “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me, because He has anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Thursday, October 9th, in the year of our Lord 2025. Marcia A. Zug: Buying a Bride: An Engaging History of Mail-Order MatchesThere have always been mail-order brides in America—but we haven't always thought about them in the same ways. In Buying a Bride, Marcia A. Zug starts with the so-called “Tobacco Wives” of the Jamestown colony and moves all the way forward to today's modern same-sex mail-order grooms to explore the advantages and disadvantages of mail-order marriage. It's a history of deception, physical abuse, and failed unions. It's also the story of how mail-order marriage can offer women surprising and empowering opportunities.Drawing on a forgotten trove of colorful mail-order marriage court cases, Zug explores the many troubling legal issues that arise in mail-order marriage: domestic abuse and murder, breach of contract, fraud (especially relating to immigration), and human trafficking and prostitution. She tells the story of how mail-order marriage lost the benign reputation it enjoyed in the Civil War era to become more and more reviled over time, and she argues compellingly that it does not entirely deserve its current reputation. While it is a common misperception that women turn to mail-order marriage as a desperate last resort, most mail-order brides are enticed rather than coerced. Since the first mail-order brides arrived on American shores in 1619, mail-order marriage has enabled women to improve both their marital prospects and their legal, political, and social freedoms. Buying A Bride uncovers this history and shows us how mail-order marriage empowers women and should be protected and even encouraged.https://amzn.to/45cHPO3Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-opperman-report--1198501/support.

One of the best romantic tropes out there is "marriage of convenience," but when you add strange dreams of a twin sister you don't actually have and a man trying to take away your stepson, it's hard to convince yourself that this could actually work. Listen in to learn about another problem this couple has to overcome in Amanda Cabot's latest release, Echoes of Sunrise. note: links may be affiliate links that provide me with a small commission at no extra expense to you. We're headed to Carr Valley and the wonderful characters in some of Cabot's earlier series. Add a bit of suspense to this historical romance and you've got a perfect story for your summer TBR. Echoes of Sunrise by Amanda Cabot A baby to protect. A town to save. Is a marriage of convenience the only answer? Sophia Carr knows her recurring dreams of an identical twin sister are just that - dreams. She also knows that eventually she will inherit the hotel her grandfather built. When a fire at the hotel kills her mother, Sophia returns to Carr Valley to rebuild and ensure that a planned railroad line chooses a route that will keep the town alive. But her grandfather's will states that she must be married to inherit, and the only man she can imagine marrying seems to have forgotten her. Up-and-coming architect Gideon Spencer couldn't say no when his dying friend begged him to marry his widow and raise their baby as his own rather than let a cruel grandfather gain custody. But when the young mother dies, leaving Gideon a single parent, the grandfather poses a new threat unless Gideon manages to marry again. Sadly, the only woman he's interested in is the one he's ignored for six months: Sophia. Knowing he needs to protect the baby, Gideon heads to Carr Valley. When he discovers that Sophia needs a husband as much as he needs a wife, he proposes a six-month marriage of convenience. Sophia agrees but adds a stipulation of her own, one that will test his resolve, even as their wedding day reveals that Sophia's dreams of a twin sister might be more than dreams. As Sophia and Gideon join forces, the stakes couldn't be higher: a baby's life, a town's future, and love. Learn more about Amanda on her WEBSITE and follow her on GoodReads and BookBub. Considering mail order pharmacy? I'm Annette Leonard of https://www.annetteleonard.com find me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/theannetteleonard When I was researching this question, I found the 6-8 mail order pharmacies that I thought best fit my needs and developed a list of questions to call and ask each pharmacy. I put the answers in a spreadsheet to see things visually to be able to rate and rank the options. Prior to choosing a mail order pharmacy, think about what your deal breakers are: timeliness? shipping speed? My questions were: Do you auto-renew and send medications every 28 or 84 days? When a script is out of refills, do you contact my doctor for a new prescription? In enough time for my prescription not to lapse? What about Schedule II meds like Fentanyl and Norco that need a new prescription every time, do you fill those? How would you help me ensure there isn't a lapse between prescriptions? How long does it take for you to get me my meds? (best- and worst-case scenario) What's the upside of using your service? What's the downside of using your service? How do I transfer all my current prescriptions to you? How do you make that easy for me? When can I reach you? How do you contact me if there are problems or questions? Do you fill prescriptions in 30/60/90 increments? Anything else it would be helpful to know? These are the pharmacies I included in my research: Amazon, Select RX, BlinkHealth, and Wegman's. In the end, I didn't chose to use mail order. I found only one company who would send Schedule II meds, several told me that they were having availability issues with some of my medications, very few were reachable over the weekend and shipping took 7-10 days. What about you? Are you doing this? Right now I only investigated options that take insurance, but it might be worth doing an examination of the mail order companies that don't. Has this worked out for you? What company are you using? Why do/don't you use mail order pharmacy? I'm Annette Leonard of https://www.annetteleonard.com find me on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/theannetteleonard About a year ago my pharmacy closed. I was ill-equipped for how disruptive this change was going to be. From none of my prescriptions transferring over automatically, to the new pharmacy hours, to how poor their communication is, there are a myriad of ongoing hassles that have been so frustrating in ways that I don't think many of my peers can relate to or understand. I get one prescription by mail. It's made me wonder whether I should get all my perceptions by mail? I spent several months researching. I didn't have any knowledge about mail order pharmacy. For those of us on anything more than 2 meds a day, I think mail order is worth considering. Especially for those who have difficulty filling their pill box, it's worth knowing that there are ways for those to be auto-filled, pre-packaged, pre-dosed, pill packs. There are a lot of variables to consider from price and availability to shipping times and other considerations. I'll talk about my exploration in my next video. **I have a new mini-course I'm finishing about how to unlock the power of your next doctor appointment*** the first 50 people get FREE enrollment. The Horror in the Slaughter GarageEpisode 243 is the sordid tale of a man who pursued women he presumed were wealthy with long distance love letters in order to swindle them of their money. Yeah, that's a story we've heard before, but this one goes an extra step darker with a gruesome murder of women and children. Consider that your trigger warning. The West Virginia community was so outraged by the crime that the lingering crowds began to worry the police. And for good reason. You'll want to join them. There are some excellent first-hand accounts of the events of this story, and because the victim was from Chicago, the Tribune sent their ace reporter Genevieve Forbes Herrick to West Virginia to interview the principals. We welcome back Susan Ferman to read Ms. Herrick's reports. Culled from the historic pages of the Chicago Tribune, Pittsburgh Press and other newspapers of the era.
The three of us got together to go through some 90s mailorder catalogs. We sift through catalogs from three classic distros: Malignant, Artware, and RRR. Comparing and contrasting the differences among them made for a lively noise discussion. Head back in time via invaluable printed matter.
