Home of the Exclusive Ohio Beta Fantasy Football League
After a brief hiatus of the official podcast of the Ohio Beta Fantasy Football League, we're back in action with another episode. Team owners have been busy jockeying for position within the playoff race as injuries abound and players are being activated off the IR. In many ways, this is the sink or swim week where team owners will solidify their position in the bottom 6 as they become mathematically eliminated or keep their playoff hopes alive as they race to the cut line. On this week's episode we have former 1-time champion Mr. Dave Hunter and our commissioner and 2-time and reigning OBFFL Champion, Mr. Steve Skarsten.
Week 2 was a whirlwind of touchdowns, tackles, and triumphs, as teams battled it out on the gridiron to establish dominance and assert their presence in this year's NFL campaign. Some fantasy stars soared to new heights, while others faced unexpected injuries. Is this the year of the rookie before Week 8? In today's episode, we'll take a look at the unexpected heroes and disappointing letdowns that unfolded during Week 2. Joining me on today's episode we have esteemed veteran team owner & perennial runner up Mr. Andrew Martin
Welcome back to another season of 5th & Long. I'm your host Marshall Morris, and damn it's good to be back watching football. Entering our 3rd season of the podcast it's been a lot of fun tracking the history over the past couple years, and we can't wait for what's in store this season. To kick things off right, today we're joined by the Commissioner of the Ohio Beta Fantasy Football League Reigning & 2-Time Champion Mr Steve Skarsten.
Join Commissioner & 2-time OBFFL Champion Steve Skarsten on a Pre-Season Update of 5th & Long!
Los Gallegos, Kiss of Deaf, MHYK, Hoop Dreams, Andy Reid's Fupa, and Azure Gargoyles. The playoffs are here, and we arrive to Christmas Week as this year's Elite 6 Teams of the OBFFL have secured 2 more weeks of play for the coveted OBFFL trophy. In a “winner take all” format of most cumulative points, we're going to see who is best prepared to sit/start their way to the Championship. Will we have our first repeat champion or will the trend continue of no repeats with one of our underdogs? “Strange, isn't it? Each man's life touches so many other lives. And when he isn't around he leaves an awful hole, doesn't he?”
We got one week left of football before the playoffs, and there are still spots up for grabs from the Magic City & Oasis Division. With injuries galore highlighting Week 14, it's possible that there is a league winner on the waivers. Will one of the playoff hopefully snag him, or will one of the early exit teams play spoiler? We get into it on 5th & Long, and on this episode we have Team Owner Morgan McBride of the Bishop Backers and Commissioner and Team Owner of Los Gallegos, Mr. Steve Skarsten.
Colonel Sanders Was offsides is eliminated from Playoff contention after losing a close one to the Bishop Backers. We've reached the point of the season where the permutations and scenarios begin to get calculated and anxiously watched as they play out. Teams that have fallen on bad luck are gonna hit the waiver wire hard this week. Will andrew accidentally spend too much on a no name off waivers? Will Cousins, Huntley, and Tannehill be favored in place of radioactive Mayfield? We get into it all today, and on this episode, we're joined by Team Owner Andrew Sloan of the Potomac Puppies.
We have 3 games left in the regular season for the OBFFL and teams are on the brink of being mathematically eliminated from the playoffs and watching their season end early. It's shaping up to be a competitive set of division matchups kicking off Week 13 and on today's episode we have one of the most passionate team owners, Mr. Alec Swiecinski of Andy Reid's Fupa.
Welcome back to 5th & Long, and I'm exceptionally excited to be bringing the OBFFL a special Thanksgiving Episode, which hopefully will become a staple for the league. Team Owners are waking up to some spiked cider and the thanksgiving Day parade, and certainly checking their rosters ahead of some turkey and football. We've reached the point of the year where mistakes will cost you the playoffs or even championship. On today's episode, We're excited to bring everyone two fan favorites, Andrew Martin of Jim Bob Cooters, and League Commissioner and manager of Los Gallegos, Mr. Steve Skarsten.
We are in the heart of the season where one false move can dash your chances at the playoff and some teams are teetering on the edge. Injuries continue to plague team owners and force them to make midseason acquisitions and trades. Will it be enough to carry momentum to the playoffs? On this episode, we have two team owners who have all but colluded this season breaking down the past performances and futures of the OBFFL. We have Josh Hooper of Hoop Dreams and Greg White of Kiss of Deaf.
Team Owners are beginning to feel the pressure of the looming playoffs as out of division play continues throughout the league. The waiver wire has grown bare as owners have scraped the bottom of the barrel to constitute a playoff ready team while navigating the pitfalls of potential injuries.
The NFL Trade Deadline has passed and we have a host of players looking to get after it on their new teams. Is this the shakeup we needed in the middle of the season to catalyze some teams back into contention? Will the top teams be able to sustain their dominance in the league? On this episode, we welcome Team Owner and Bad Boy of the OBFFL, Morgan McBride.
No Europe games, no Monday Night Double Header, no groundbreaking injuries or shootout scores. What an incredibly…boring week of NFL football. What Week 6 was lacking in high scoring, booming fantasy performances it made up for in close competition in the OBFFL. Joining me tonight to break it all down is the former OBFFL champion, long anticipated podcast guest, and Franchise Owner of Hoop dreams, Mr. Josh Hooper
Strangely quiet waiver wire activity this week as team owners continue to scour every corner of the league for the backups backup. We enter the challenging weeks of byes where managers are going to have to decide whether to cut a player for bench space, or risk it all on a one week matchup. Today we're joined by a fantastic Delaware duo that are veteran team managers: Cors Burns of Colonel Sanders Was Offsides, and the Reigning OBFFL Champion - Dom Schlabach of You Sanuze You Lose - what's going on guys?
After an injury riddled Week 4, teams are scrambling to put together trades and waiver wire bids to adjust their lineups. We saw key players go down & unsuspecting players rise to the top last week - and now the question becomes can any of them repeat? Today on the episode we break down the league with veteran team owner and esteemed OBFFL commissioner Steve Skarsten of Los Gallegos.
Welcome back to the exclusive home of the OBFFL. It's Week 4 and every team owner has secured a win after only 3 weeks. Maybe the teams are more balanced, maybe there's less volatility without kickers. You can be the judge. One thing is certain: two powerhouse teams have emerged in the league, and one of them is joining us today on the episode today - Dave Hunter of Micah Hyde Yo Kids
This week we found out which team's boomed during Week 1 and which teams are for real. Things continue to shake up within the league as injuries and suspensions abound, is this the window some teams need to get back in the mix after some waiver wire activity? Well, today we're joined by OBFFL Team Owners Greg White of Kiss of Deaf, and Dave Hunter of Micah Hyde Yo Kids.
Week 1 did not disappoint with a handful of injuries and curveballs through some sloppy 60 minutes of football. And it begs the question, should teams play their starters more often in the preseason? We look to Week 2 for some more stability in the depth charts, and today we're joined by OBFFL Team Owner Alec Swiecinski of the Andy Reid Fupa's
'Tis the season for signing free agents & building new stadiums. During the off season you have plenty of exciting news as NFL teams jockey to position themselves as a formidable opponent for the upcoming year with almost a new headline every week. None of which are as exciting as what we got going on here at the OBFFL.
The regular season as over and 6 teams have secured their spots in the playoffs. It comes down to a two week all out sprint for points, and it's anybody's game. Can the District Skins be the first ever repeat champion or will there be a new sheriff in town. We are all set for a doozie couple weeks amidst, injuries, covid reschedules, and last minute strategy as team owners put their best out on the line. We got OBFFL Playoff Football ahead.
Ww are BACK with another episode of 5th & Long, and I hope everyone had an awesome Thanksgiving holiday. As Team Owners emerge from their food coma they turn their sights to the divisional matchups that will make or break the rest of their season. Can the Andrew Sloan & Max Novak capitalize on some recent momentum to keep their playoff hopes alive, and will Dom Schlabach and Alec Swiecinski continue to duke it out at the top? We'll find out as each week we are bound to have teams secure playoff spots, or secure a spot on the bench.
Team Owners are starting to put it all on the line as the playoff squads start to take form. Dom continues to lead the pack in total points scored despite 2 previous off weeks. And it's this past week where we begin to see the separation between the playoff contenders and the rest of the pack, but nobody has thrown their playoff chances away as 4 of the bottom 6 secure points last week. It's time to step up or shut up as we go into Week 11.
There isn't a bone in the boneyard the commissioner says of the waiver wire, and teams are scrambling to put together a playoff squad. Dom Schlabach normalizes with an uncharacteristic sub 100 point week, and we have the lowest average scoring by teams in recent weeks. Is this a sign of teams catching a breather before the playoff run, or is this the window that Max Novak, Josh Hooper, and Andrew Sloan need to get their teams into the playoffs?
With injuries everywhere, the waiver wire is going to be HOT this week. We're over halfway through the fantasy football season and with a couple out of division matchups remaining, teams are jockeying to put together their PLAYOFF TEAM. Are owners willing to bet on the upside of Kittle, McCaffrey and other top producers coming back strong? We'll find out with Week 9 just ahead.
It's Week 8, and we've reached the halfway point in the league with Grudge Match Week just ahead. It's heating up on the bubble with Dave, Steve, & Greg tied for the first out position on the playoff bubble, so can any of them put together some points to create some separation through the second half of the season. And more importantly we enter some “must win” weeks which could put the Potomac Puppies and Hoop Dreams back into the mix if they're able to correct their snake bitten seasons.
It's Week 7, and it's anybody's league. Juggernaut Dom keeps dominating, and RUINS Morgan McBride's perfect season. Was this Nostradamus Cors Burns predicting the overtinkering or is it the OBFFL Hex? Regardless, HUGE activity from some of the leagues trailing team owners this week, and IT. PAYS. OFF.
Things are heating up as we're still reeling from a week of huge points across the league. Morgan continues perfect start, and the Potomac Puppies suffer a crushing loss and narrowly missing points But no team could have delivered more than the District Skins led by Dylan Walsh getting his first matchup win. We have another week of waking up early, drinking some tea and feasting on English pastries, are the OBFFL owners going to factor that into their lineups as we cross the pond for another London game?
Sophomore Slump is at it again and has not dropped a point ALL season long. Could Week 5 be the eek that Morgan McBride is poised to drop a point against juggernaut Team Owner and Defending League Champion Dave Hunter? Or will Week 5 be the week that Dylan Walsh gets his first win against Greg White. We've entered the heart of the season and it's still anybody's game - we have a LONG way to go.
It's Week 4, and #1 Draft Pick Christian McCaffrey goes down in their game against the Texans. Could this be the end of Cors Burn's season? With that loss to his team, he goes as the only team in the Coles Division to not win a Points Point, while the Coles Division earns the top points spot among the league. With the conclusion of Week 3, every team is now on the leaderboard with SOME kind of point, and we go into Week 4 with only two remaining teams without a win. Both teams are poised for a win this week, so let's get into it.
On this episode we recap Week 2 and discuss Week 3 projections with Team Owners Dave Hunter and Cors Burns.
Join Marshall Morris & Dylan Walsh as they break down the origin of the Ohio Beta Fantasy Football League, the Draft Recap, Week 1 results, and projections for Week 2.
