With Netflix shining attention on the victims of the 2015 Ashley Madison breach, we're running a replay of our own coverage from 2021 that gets into the dark underbelly that Netflix skipped: lies Ashley Madison told about their services (and their CEO's fidelity), and blackmail attempts from enterprising hacker types. We also put forth evidence that the hacker, who was never caught, is most likely Canadian and a woman.ResourcesImpact Team Pastebin notice, July 20, 2015: https://pastebin.com/ZGXmk8R9Krebs on Security report on breach: https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/07/online-cheating-site-ashleymadison-hacked/Suicides attributed to Ashley Madison breach:https://money.cnn.com/2015/09/08/technology/ashley-madison-suicide/https://www.bbc.com/news/technology-34044506https://toronto.citynews.ca/2013/11/10/woman-hurt-typing-fake-profiles-for-dating-site-20m-suit-alleges/https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/08/ashleymadison-500k-bounty-for-hackers/https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/08/who-hacked-ashley-madison/https://krebsonsecurity.com/2015/08/was-the-ashley-madison-database-leaked/https://grahamcluley.com/ashley-madisons-leaked-database-available-download-read-this/https://grahamcluley.com/ashley-madison-fake/https://www.businessinsider.in/tech/the-strange-rise-and-sudden-fall-of-noel-biderman-the-former-ceo-of-ashley-madison/slidelist/48716152.cmshttps://www.priv.gc.ca/en/privacy-topics/business-privacy/safeguards-and-breaches/privacy-breaches/respond-to-a-privacy-breach-at-your-business/gd_pb_201810/https://www.wired.com/2015/08/happened-hackers-posted-stolen-ashley-madison-data/https://grahamcluley.com/ashley-madison-wives-receiving-blackmail-letSend us a textEveryday AI: Your daily guide to grown with Generative AICan't keep up with AI? Dan Deming covers the market reaction to economic data this morning. He notes strength in the small and mid-caps and says to watch momentum in the upwards trends. He says pressure on the dollar is due to geopolitical concerns after its strong run up. He also looks at Bitcoin rejecting the $100K level, but says it has further upside if governments continue to embrace it. ======== Schwab Network ======== Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. Despite reaching record highs earlier in the week, the market is set to lose those gains due to concerns over China's economic performance, particularly in property investment and GDP growth. Domestically, financials led sector gains, while energy and utilities suffered. Key stock movements included Regis Resources' gold-fuelled surge and Flight Centre's sharp drop due to an uncertain outlook. Looking ahead, attention will focus on major earnings reports from Tesla and Amazon, along with local AGMs and quarterly updates. Kilimanjaro twice, and trekked to Everest Base Camp. I also share my initial reactions to Netflix's surprise release of their "engagement numbers," which reveal what shows and movies are receiving the most hours of viewing. I'm still going through the 18,000 titles and it's really fascinating... if you're into this sort of thing. In the first half of 2023, about 21% of their shows were watched less than 150,000 hours. But on the flip side, “The Night Agent,” a series that debuted globally March 23, racked up 812 million hours viewed by the end of June and finished first. More to come in future episodes. Lastly, as we near the end of the year, I recommend 3 organizations to donate to. Take a look at the websites below if you need the information.
