A good old-fashioned Whiparound Friday episode kicks off the first weekend of December. Andy and Brendan are pleased with the early returns from Wednesday's "Save the Mules" campaign, which launched with its very own PSA! TGL is also raising awareness for its second season with a social media video featuring new architect Gil Hanse. Gil walked out of the player tunnel in an empty SoFi Dome, creating a piece of content that will last a lifetime. Andy and Brendan bat around ideas about how this video came to be and what we may be able to expect from Hanse's designs on the big screen. In more TGL news, the league announced its newest drink sponsor on Thursday in a moved that stirred up early-2000s memories. There is actual golf being played this week in the Bahamas and South Africa, but the main focus of this podcast is on the Australian Open at Royal Melbourne. The two share their thoughts after watching the first round of the event and wish that the world's top players had more chances to play these types of courses across the globe. For a last piece of Friday news, Jordan Spieth told Adam Schpak that he's planning to play his way into 2026 Signature Events and "does not want" to use exemptions anymore.

Welcome to our first ‘Chaser'! In this episode, Brie invited her coworker (and fellow English teacher) Brian on the pod to further discuss Season 2 Episode 4: “Me and Mr. Joad”. We dropped a hint at the end of the blurb for our last episode, and if you guessed ‘Mike's Hard Lemonade', ding ding ding! Indeed, in this, our first ‘Chaser' episode, Brie and Brian sipped Mike's Hard Black Cherry Lemonade and discussed the pedagogical differences between young, progressive teachers (like Turner) and old, conservative ones (like Feeny). Spoiler: a happy medium is the way to go.

While we certainly neither condone nor encourage underage drinking, the reality is that both of us did plenty of it in our heyday. Indeed, drinking before you're 21 in the US is basically a rite of passage for generations of young people. (And yes, the drinking age should be 18.) And while we absolutely don't endorse our past behavior, we thought we would have some fun talking about our respective introductions to drinking: Trying our first beer, going to our first party, getting drunk for the first time, and -- god forbid! -- hungover. From Bud Heavies and Mike's Hard Lemonade to tequila and scotch... well... we may have been a little over our heads. Enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

Behind many popular drink brands—Mike's Hard Lemonade, Celsius Energy Drinks, Pabst Blue Ribbon—is BevSource, a St. Paul based company that provides beverage development, sourcing, and production—everything from supplying the can that holds your beer to helping develop and test an entirely new drink idea. Today BevSource is one of the largest packing and ingredient distributors in North America, with $250 million in annual revenue. Janet Johanson started the company in 2002 when she was just 24 years old, with three years of experience in the industry. “I just said yes,” she says. Johanson talks timing: from knowing when to take on private equity and start a board to knowing when it was time to step away from the day-to-day operations. “As CEO, I got stuck in detail,” she says. “By cutting my hands off, it made me think differently about who we partner with…and how I can make an impact.” Following our conversation with Johanson, we go Back to the Classroom with the University of St. Thomas Opus College of Business. Tera Galloway is an associate professor in the Department of Management who studies the craft brewing industry. She explains the idea of “coopetition,” where companies realize is better for their industry to work together than to compete. She talks about the importance of building a network and the critical moment for entrepreneurs, when they realize their out of their depth. “It doesn't mean you have to leave; you need to get more help.”

Sometimes we just have to trust that all the dots in our life will connect. And for English major turned experiential marketer and founder/creative director of Crush Studio, Lacey Hoff, they definitely did. In this episode, Lacey shares how working as a technical editor who got in trouble for talking too much led first to a production assistant job at a museum-design firm and then a magical gig helping Universal Studios bring the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to life. Since then, Lacey has had an exciting and rewarding career crafting moments and creating spaces that allow corporate brands to emotionally connect with consumers and people to open up and enjoy themselves. From finding ways to marry real-life and digital inspiration to moving quickly when the universe gifts you a brilliant idea, Lacey offers insight into creating marketing experiences that surprise, delight and transport audiences. Buckle up for this educational yet highly entertaining episode!Key Takeaways: Have you ever wondered how brands like Zappos or Mike's Hard Lemonade create “Instagrammable” moments? Lacy tells us how! Lacey shares why simply asking team members “what's new?” can lead to big and bold creative ideas. We discuss why the best things in life are messy.Lacey reveals her predictions for the future of experiential design, including the roles that she expects AI and the metaverse to play.Guest Bio:Lacey Hoff is the Owner and Creative Director of Crush Studio, a design and production company that creates unique events and hospitality experiences for world-class brands. Crush brings brands to life by combining immersive spaces with engaging programming —all while making sure that content captured by guests or photographers is camera worthy. Lacey fell in love with the idea of transporting guests into other worlds during her first job as a production assistant with a museum-design firm. After gaining international marketing and branding experience through stints with both Universal Studios' Creative and Warner Bros., Lacey combined her skillsets in Experiential Design. She went on to spend six years as the Design Director for an event agency in LA and NYC, executing events for brands such as Harry Potter, Zappos and DC Comics. With an intense desire to be more hands-on and “in the studio,” Lacey founded Crush Studio in 2016 so that she could build a team focused on the design & production process. After a major setback with the rest of the world in 2020, Crush has now rebuilt itself to a team of 12. Their brand client list includes Netflix, Disney, Chase Sapphire, Dropbox and Shutterstock. When Lacey isn't on an event site using coded walkie-talkie speak or working on a home remodeling project, you can find her practicing Spanish south of the border, preferably somewhere with salty air and big waves.
Welcome to Guilty Pleasures, the show where we put your prepubescent ass to bed so we can make out with our boyfriend and watch bad horror movies. This month, it was Stephanie's turn to pick the theme, and she decided to honor a staple of the genre and celebrate National Babysitter's Day (May 13). In honor of the occasion, we asked our adoring fans to choose a film for us to stay up late and drink lush lemonades with. You had to choose between the 2013 anthology horror film that first introduced Terrifier's Art the Clown, ALL HALLOWS' EVE…or the polarizing 2020 Netflix teen horror comedy THE BABYSITTER: KILLER QUEEN, the McG sequel to 2017's THE BABYSITTER. So put on your PJs, get tucked in tight, and let us tell you a bedtime story full of camp, carnage, and a killer scream queen. Does "The Babysitter: Killer Queen" deserve to be crowned a winner? Or is it more like a royal mess? And is it really a Guilty Pleasure? Let's find out together! THIS MONTH'S THEMED SPIRIT: LUSH LEMONADE Pour 2 oz of Captain Morgan's original spiced rum (or spiced rum) over 2-3 ice cubes. In the early Aughts, as the craft brewing industry recovered from its slump the prior decade, macrobrewers started to realize that they couldn't just ignore the beardos and their bizarre "microbrews" anymore. But as they say, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. We tapped our pal Anat Baron, the creative force behind the revelatory 2009 documentary "Beer Wars" and the former general manager of Mike's Hard Lemonade, to take us back to the days when Anheuser-Busch tried to clone craft beer with so-called "crafty" knockoffs — and how it used its powerful distribution network to make sure those beers got to supermarket shelves, even though nobody wanted 'em. There almost are too many things to talk about for this one episode, but I'll try and keep it brief. Todd got an “influencer” kit from ABInBev, which bought Hoop Tea. If you're not familiar, Hoop Tea was developed in Ocean City as a beer alternative in the style of things like Mike's Hard Lemonade. This was before every local brewery realized it was cheaper to just hook up their alcohol to their club soda dispenser, but that's a story for another day. Then point is Todd isn't an “influencer” in the normal sense. Instead, he's someone who knows his way around an area and topic. He's more an expert. An influencer will take their picture with any dumb thing they're paid to take their picture with. Todd promotes local things whether or not he's being paid to because that's kind of his style. We also talk about Substack ‘Notes' which is something we'd love to see you on if you play Substack. I talk at length about how Substack is becoming a place where there are no such things as influencers, which is so pleasant.So.If you miss the old days of social media where random info trumped trolling and “influencing” seriously consider joining us. You can find my substack here (sometimes it's political, other times it's just strange): This is a public episode. Nikki Pebbles is featured on this week's episode of Nicstalgia. Can the conversation about thongs ever really end??? No. Talking ~in depth~ about hiding your bedazzled and embellished Mandee's, Weathervane, Wet Seal, Rave, and Rave Girl thongs from your mom. Did Nikki have her first kiss at a Harry Potter movie, wearing Jessica Simpson's edible dessert line? Yes, of course she did. (Lorraine just knew.) Shout out to Mike's Hard Lemonade. We talk about AIM away message/bio drama, dating someone in 8th grade and not only not talking to them but actively avoiding them in the hallway, school locker anxiety, and dealing with being cyber-bullied as the first generation of kids on the internet. We play “Shake It Fast, Watch Yourself” (inspired by the Mystikal song, naturally), where Nikki picks between two songs from my Middle School Dance Spotify playlist. Nikki and I share our favorite high school prom songs and the synchronicities between our childhood selves. We warned you that this was gonna be a super hot and wet summer. Logan and Dustin ogle some big sweaty hunks as they discuss the Steven Soderbergh film, Magic Mike; starring Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, and a bunch of other meat boys. They drink some Camp Shandy Shore Lemon from Topling Goliath and chase that with some Mike's Hard Lemonade (do you get it?). And then in the Special Features segment, Logan rants against Fireball and the boys pick out their strip persona and routine. CONTENT WARNING: This episode is pretty dang sexy. *eggplant *eggplant *eggplant
Alonzo Wade was 40 years old at the time he began talking to a girl he believed to be fifteen years old with the screen name "bushsucksgrrl". He is a "fast mover" as his chat begins and ends on the same night as his confrontation and arrest. The decoy asks if he will bring condoms, but says he won't need them because, "I am fixed". Alonzo shows up with a twelve pack of beer and two six-packs of Mike's Hard Lemonade. He enters the house, unzips his fly, and that's when Chris steps in.

What were you drinking in the early 2000s? When we look back on trends and data, there's a good chance it was a flavored malt beverage along the lines of Zima, Mike's Hard Lemonade, or the star of today's story: Twisted Tea from Boston Beer Company. In her exuberant and extremely thorough piece titled “Spill It — Twisted Tea's Unpredictable, Unparalleled 21-Year Success Story” journalist Kate Bernot unpacks everything there is to know about the cult favorite: its experimental origins, its shockingly consistent sales numbers, and the brand's plans for future expansion in order to bring the gospel of boozy tea nationwide. Not that it needs to sell itself too hard—Kate describes Twisted Tea's unusually fervent consumers, who've remained loyal for two decades and are showing no signs of straying. In today's conversation, we share stories about our own experiences with the brand and how craft beer's tunnel vision can sometimes make us unaware of successes outside our own spheres. She also shares some of her insight into the when, where, why, and how of Twisted Tea's origin—and wonders why it's so hard to get the full story from its creators. If there's one thing to take away from our discussion, it's to have an open mind when it comes to what you drink. You may be surprised at what you're missing.
