A raw podcast for busy moms who need encouragement, support, truth, and health that is rooted in the word of God.
Send us a textI wanted to dive into Ezekiel 16 where it specifically lists the reasons for Sodom's downfall. We can see a parallel between these and many of empires in world history that has be torn apart by greed, lusts, political division, and ungodliness. Is there a correlation between these findings and America? Unfortunately, yes. I also look at a few more places in scripture that give very specific examples of two major issues that the Lord has with His people: sexual sin and child sacrifice. I also talk a bit about the cultural Christianity belief that God is love and He doesn't send people to hell. There's a lot more exploration we can do outside of this episode, but I do look into God's character with these passages as well. Because He is just and holy, sin MUST be dealt with. So yes, Jesus is love, but His love sanctifies us and changes us in HIS image. If there's no evidence of that in your life, then you're not following the Jesus of the Bible. So many nuggets in this one that can definitely get their own episode! Send us a textCultural Christianity is a very dangerous place. It mixes a lot (or a little) of the truth with just a tiny twist of the spirit of the age. I made a list of six red flags to look for when trying to find a church to call home or even when you meet someone that talks about Jesus. Because it may not be the right one. Denies the diety of Christ Mixes creationism with evolution Doesn't use all scripture for doctrine, reproof, correction, and instruction Promotes New Ageism Promotes feelings over factsDoesn't teach repentance, but that you can come to Jesus as you are and stay that wayI used a lot of references today and I have a lot more I could've thrown in there. If you want my list, especially about who the Bible says Jesus is, just message me! Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. Send us a textThere's a lot of craziness going on right now in the world. I think a lot of us can just feel the heaviness that brings. With that heaviness brings anxiety. We worry about our children (even if they haven't been born yet) in this world that abounds with evil and rapidly declining morals. It's still our Father's world. He's still on the throne. And we have access to one thing that this world doesn't have...peace. Perfect peace. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. Send us a textIt's been a year since my last episode and I'm hoping to come back to the podcast world consistently but for now, let's take it one episode at a time. Elam just turned one, so we are still in the fog of sleepless nights, weaning, balancing life, and lack of consistency. It's flown by and before I know it he won't be needing me as often and I'll desperately want this time back! Today I talk about my struggle with anger. Post partum and weaning hormones definitely don't help, but that's not an excuse for struggling with controlling my emotions when I'm overwhelmed and overstimulated. Hopefully you can relate! I'm back after two months cuddling my newborn and (still) adjusting as a family of six. Thank you for your patience!Object permanence is the ability for the human brain to know that something is still there even though it's hidden. This concept has been on my mind with my newborn baby. When I set him down and leave the room, he knows himself to be completely abandoned. He physically cannot comprehend that when he doesn't feel me, I'm still there. When we go through trials and difficult seasons, how many times have we accused God of abandoning us? Sometimes it's easy to feel like He doesn't care or He doesn't hear us. How can we spiritually arrive at a place of object permanence and trust Him when it's the hardest? Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. I put together a list of things I have or even still struggled with when it comes to homeschooling my kids. This is my 5th year of homeschooling! I even have an education degree but the fear of teaching your OWN children is very much real. If you're just beginning the thought on homeschooling, brand new to it, or you've been doing it just a bit, you are not alone in your fears! We talk about these things today: I'm not patient enough I don't want to be around my kids that muchI don't want to teach my own kidsI don't have a designated space or school roomI don't know where to start I wasn't the brightest in school so how am I supposed to teach it?I don't know if we can afford it I'm worried my kids won't be socialized I also read from Colossians 2 and 3 and Numbers 13-14 to close out. I'd love to hear if this help you in any way or if you have different perspectives! Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. My thoughts for this episode comes from training our new pup, Ellie. She's smart and has been so quick to pick up on concepts but she is still a dog. I can sometimes visibly see the struggle between hearing my command and obeying me vs. doing something she really had her heart set on. It made me think of seasons we can go through in our life as believers when God calls us to do something that is drastically different than our plans and dreams. We often hear about the blessing of obedience when we do submit to His will, but can we also acknowledge that sometimes there's a grieving and hard transition on our end, too? It may feel lonely and isolate us even, especially if we have to break ties with a friend or family member when standing upon the truth of God. Today we look at Abraham and Moses' mother with reminders of Hannah and Jonah's journey as well. The prosperity gospel isn't biblical because sometimes to follow the Lord it requires giving up those things we feel like we deserve. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. We finish up my thoughts in this series here by looking at the doctrine of Baalam/Nicolatians that are mentioned in Revelation 2. These two things highly surround not necessarily unbelievers but a compromising church. We are heavily warned about the blurring of lines when it comes to holiness and separation between the world and believers. I would almost rather talk to someone who is solid in their stance that there is NO God than a Christian who is heavily mixing the Word of God with a worldview agenda. Here is the article that I mentioned and quoted toward the end of the episode:https://www.gotquestions.org/doctrine-of-Balaam.htmlThanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. I know I test your patience and attention span with this episode but I wanted to get all of this in together. This really dives in to the "why" of what is happening. We are reminded of God's magnificent power and that He will not leave wickedness unanswered. Jesus is love...yes. But he is also JUST. Last episode I asked that you read Hosea before we started this episode. The reason for this is because I wanted to highlight the "Sprit of Harlotry" that comes on the scene with Babylon and Israel's captivity. The Spirit of Harlotry is rooted in pride, disobedience, and stubbornness. It's also highly connected with sexual immorality and we are seeing this large push of sexuality on our children and in our culture. We look at Isaiah, Ezekiel, Romans 1, and Revelation today. *Note: I have a few misspeaks in here. Please forgive this mushed pregnant brain and hopefully you understand what I meant!Join me next episode as I wrap up this series with Part 3!Thanks for listening today! How do we, as believers, approach wokeness or progressive Christianity biblically? I've been able to see different approaches to social issues developing within the church. Some are passive and struggle with taking a stand because they don't want to offend someone or become "that" Christian. Others go to the voting booth to fix the issue or a street corner in protest, leaving out the gospel and the issue that we are all sinners in need of a savior. Where do we need to be? Christ centered. This is recognizing that we are in a spiritual battle and we don't fight flesh and blood. Being Christ centered focuses on repentance, discernment, and teaching the gospel. Next time I'm with you in part 2, we will look at these two questions: Why is this happening? What is the purpose? In order to do that, I want YOU to read the book of Hosea between now and then. In this book, I want you to pray and ask the Lord to reveal something about His character to you. How does He love? Is He quick or slow to anger? How does He view those who sin and what about punishment and consequences? What are the purpose of those consequences? We'll use what we see in Hosea to move forward in Part 2 by going to Isaiah, Ezekiel, and Romans 1. I know this seems like a rabbit trail, but I hope you join me in this journey as I tie both the Old Testament and New together. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. You may have noticed that I didn't drop an episode on the 1st like I usually do! I'm still here; life is just crazy busy and I have been doing everything I can to be a wife, mom, and grow a baby. Between the gender conversation, abortion, political issues, and inflation our minds are overwhelmed by the rapid changes occurring in our daily lives. We've enjoyed a lot of peace as Christians in America but we are starting to feel a shift in the atmosphere. The spirit of the age is no longer complacent with our values and biblical beliefs. It's not enough for us to stay silent and just continue peacefully in our Christian walk because they're coming for us and our children. If we have anything to say that is contrary to their beliefs, then we are immediately labeled as hateful and bigots. Is this a new agenda or has it actually been around since the beginning of the fall? This spirit pops up massively when Jesus starts His ministry and we see it in the book of Acts. It was in the religious leaders... ones responsible for the keeping and teaching of scripture! Today we look at John 12, Matthew 28, and Acts 4.Stand firm and hold strong to the truth of the Bible. It may cost you your job, your reputation, and your comfort but obedience to the Lord will be the ultimate reward. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. Jesus + Leprosy. Reading through the gospels recently, the story of the leper being healed just hit me in a new way. I hope that I can convey the magnitude and power of that miracle in a short time by going back to Leviticus and reading chapter 14-15 on the law relating to the leper, his or her clothing, and their home. Salt + Light has been very heavy on my mind lately. I've covered the concept of light before in some previous episodes (John 1), but I did some light digging on the use of salt in scripture and love the picture it paints for Jesus and the Church. We've already touched on anxiety so I wanted to share my thoughts on depression and just struggling through life as a believer! Sometimes we can say "everything happens for a reason" or "God works all things together" as if that will make what we are feeling just magically disappear. Two great prophets, Elijah and Moses, even struggled with feeling overcome with burdens and circumstance. How do I deal with depression as a believer? How can I help someone struggling? All this and more today in this episode. Do you have anything you'd like to add? I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. Being 14 weeks pregnant, I'm starting to struggle with this again massively. It's important to talk about and identify it from a spiritual perspective and see it for what it is. It's funny how you think you have something under control and then circumstances present themselves and you're humbled quickly by how little it takes to mess with our heads. Have you ever stood in the mirror and picked yourself apart? Or maybe you felt thinner and on top of the world physically one day and then as "big as a whale" the next. Maybe you're lost a lot of weight and you still feel the same weight or you think you look the same as when you started. This is body dysmorphia. Our purpose here? To glorify God. It's not to look thin or cut or ripped. There's nothing wrong with prioritizing health and taking steps to wellness but it can become an idol just like anything else. My 5 Points to Combat BDD 1. Remind yourself of why you're here- 1 Peter 2:9-11- Psalm 96:1-9- Phil. 3:18-21- Acts 20:242. Recognize that it's vanity and idolatry - Jeremiah 2:5- 1 Cor. 10:12-14- Jeremiah 4:30 - Prov. 31:30- Ecc. 2:113. Recognize that it's the flesh and it's worldly - 1 John 2:16- James 1:26- Ps. 119:37 - Phil. 2:3-4- 2 Tim. 3:1-54. Remind yourself of how God sees you - Matt. 6:25-34- Ps. 139: 13-16- Romans 5:8- Eph. 2:4-9-Gal. 2:205. Give thanks and praise God for your body Thanks for listening today! Being a godly parent can be exhausting. Is it worth it? Will it stick? It seems so much easier to not care. We look at Nehemiah 4 for an amazing analogy that dates 450 years before Christ even entered the picture. We then examine what it means to gird yourself with the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.We have a war to fight, believer. Now is not the time to back down. Scriptures used: John 14:6Acts 4:121 Tim. 2:5Romans 10:9John 1:14Matthew 10:34-35Revelation 1:16, 2:12-16, 19:11-16Ephesians 6:7Isaiah 11:14, 49:22 Thess. 2:8Hebrews 4:12Jude 1:12-252 John 1:7-111 John 5:18-21Thanks for listening today! We are so used to putting our best foot forward when it comes to this world. Whether it's all or nothing, trying to fix our body for validation, or going after the bigger paycheck, we are hardwired to make sure that we are enough. Jesus doesn't care about any of that. He doesn't need the best version of you - He just wants you. We look at some examples of this in scripture. People that were called to do great things for the Lord often didn't feel confident or comfortable in that calling. In fact, Moses even questioned it. Stop focusing on what you don't have as that can lead to disappointment and jealousy. When we place our faith in the Lord and He calls us to something, we can take joy in the fact that He is with us and He will equip us along the way. Thanks for listening today! Life is exhausting. People are tired. We get told that we cannot pour from an empty cup...but what does that mean exactly? Will bubble baths, mini vacations, and fresh nails help us feel refreshed? We often do things to try to run away or escape our life only for those problems to come flooding back in. I wanted to look at the Proverbs 31 woman today. She seems unattainable with her lack of fear of the future and constant busy hands and integrity - but she's not. She's the product of a life that realizes that Jesus is her strength. In order for Him to fill us up, we have to empty ourselves completely. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. This is the heart of the gospel message! Whether you've heard this taught before or you don't even have faith in Jesus as your savior, I really encourage you to listen to this two part series. In this episode, I go over the Seed of Abraham which is Jesus. This is both a physical and spiritual promise that starts in Genesis 3 and ends in Revelation, and I cannot talk about Jesus as our Kinsman Redeemer without laying this ground work. Note: At 8:50 I misspeak and say “human and man” when it should have been “human and God.” Scriptures Used:Isaiah 7:13-16Genesis 3:22Micah 5:2Isaiah 40:3-5Matthew 1:18John 1 Genesis 3:14-15Genesis 17 Genesis 26Isaiah 42 and 49Galatians 3:15-181 Cor. 15:20-28, 45-49Links for further study: https://www.cgg.org/index.cfm/library/verses/id/2433/abrahams-seed-verses.htmhttps://bible.org/seriespage/7-promised-seed-source-blessing-gods-perfect-planThanks for listening today! This is where the heart of the "seed" message really comes into play! We look at Levitical Law, Ruth, Jeremiah, Matthew, and the book of Revelation to tie all of this in together. First of all, I got too heavy handed on my dresser where the microphone was and I apologize. Lesson learned for next time! I'm no stranger to anxiety and depression. It comes out in two forms for me: anger and/or emotional eating. Mental health is something that gets skirted around in Christianity because we know Jesus is the healer of all things - but that doesn't mean we can't struggle. That doesn't mean it's not hard sometimes. We go to Galatians, Colossians, 1 Peter, Philippians, and Romans today for a biblical perspective on anxiety. God is a God of peace, hope, and comfort. He can be trusted and we can learn how to let go but it takes an active obedience to His sanctification process. Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. If there is any episode that shares my heart on my take on health, this is the one. I wrap up these two episodes up with a little more about my struggle with alcohol, food, and poor body image. We take a closer look at the Word for what it has to say about struggling with our health and when we feel out of control. There is freedom, peace, joy, and self control in Christ! Thanks for listening today! Feedback is always appreciated. Linking food to morality (good foods vs. bad foods) starts when we are a child and it ends up cultivating a monster of shame and eating disorders. You'll never have a healthy relationship with food if you assign it as a moral component of your life. Foods have nothing to do with your behavior or morality. In this episode, I share more about my past with you and journey with health and the Lord. From being extremely dependent on food to alcohol to help me cope, to smoking packs at a time and wanting nothing to do with God for a while, my testimony has changed my perspective on health. Parenting has played a major roll in that as well and I talk about some things I've done differently with my kids to try to break the cycle. Health is not just one sided - it is so complex. It's mental and emotional which is directly tied to the spiritual. Join me in episode 7 as we explore the spiritual aspect of these things discussed today! Thanks for listening today! I get told all of the time by people that I must be especially motivated to work out at home. I'm not. I'm really not. The reality? No one stays motivated for long periods of time. Professional athletes, Olympians, your local gym rat, and every other person on this planet with goals and drive will not stay motivated. Motivation is a feeling and feelings change. It's like that ex that comes around and helps you to feel good about yourself only to leave you in heartbreak yet again. In this episode, I also go over some gym staples that I feel are key to getting started at home. If you're new to strength training or even seasoned, these are still budget friendly effective tools to have on hand. "You are enough" (along with "you are perfect just the way you are") is such a common phrase we hear daily - but is it true? I quickly examine a worldview vs. biblical view of this saying in order to build our foundation of true health rooted in Christ. Today we will be looking at Ephesians for a biblical understanding of how to change our mindset. We often look for quick fixes but for many of us, that has failed. It will last for a while, but if we want REAl change, we must go to the root and the source of that change - Jesus. We will get more in depth in episode 4 about that so stay tuned!
